The M24, Gentleman's Rifle

Recommended Posts

its crazy, it has almost the same precicsion and bullet drop like the M24, and it even does more damage for the lulz (10000 i think?)

forgot the nerf, now its 6722...

You can still play with the old version (1.60), Lee Enfield does the same old damage with it. It's 12000, not 10000, by the way.

Lee Enfield is a fucking railgun, but it's more like a bamboo stick for a shaolin master, not a gentleman's rifle.

Me too, but don't have the bright idea to try it out from a deer stand as some zombies can climb faster than monkeys on crack and you'll be over-run in less than a minute.

i've been shot twice with snipers(three with yesterday) and i'm not complaining about the one shot kill, i'm complaining about the impossibility to run with such a kind of rifle at your shoulder..and also a 5.56 should pierce an engine block

I was also thinking that if Lee-Enfield would have a scope, it could become a very popular sniping weapon. I have been practicing with it a few times in the shooting range and I hit targets at 400 meters without having to worry about bullet drop. It still hits the targets at 500m, but a little low. The velocity the bullets travel at is also pretty amazing.

While I do think the M24 is an awesome rifle, and of all the medium range rifles it would be my first choice, however most of my targets are at long range. The M24 is accurate to 800M compare that with the AS50's 1600M, and that right there is why I prefer to have the AS50, it's also an awesome chopper killer  . I'm not one of these n00b ass snipers sitting in cherno or electro killing new spawns from 200-300M, I provide overwatch for my guys which can be anything in the 500-1400M+ range.

Let me remind you guys not to bitch about what weapons should be 'balanced'. We're gentlemen here.

If they add proper animations/sounds (reloading, bolt handle) to the bolt action rifles, i'll be the happiest gentleman of them all.

(Resident evil 4 had one of the most awesome animations for that kind of weapon i've ever seen)

I'm going to risk getting yelled at here and state that it's a bit more difficult to use the DMR at longer ranges since it can't be zeroed, and that it being used with NVGs doesn't really matter since you can turn brightness and gamma up anyway.

For me the scope's too powerful. I have to ask zombies and snipers to move back and stand on the next hill, across the field and it isn't often they agree to it. Actually, now I think of it, I think I've ended up dead every single time.

Lee Enfield.

Honestly, due to it's high noise level and range, I would never go as close to saying the Lee is a "battle-rifle."

It's category fit's nicely alongside it's scoped cousin's, even in the real world.

It is the best, in my opinion, of the bolt-action rifles for standard cover fire.

But it is a battle rifle.

That's because the DMR isn't really designed to go over 400m. Sniping rarely exceeds 500m in DayZ anyway, most players can't really snipe properly anyway.

And as if we would yell, us fine gentlemen would never so such a thing!

Agree. Half the fun of operating a bolt action rifle, is manipulating the bolt.

And so it began, with the successful removal of the L85 thermal, they moved down the list. With dreams of AS-50's and DRM's vanishing from their worlds, the emboldened masses swelled amongst the forums. The next of the unfair hated death noob OP unbalanced bambie murdering tool was brought forth For slaughter.

Soon the poll will arrive, as the devs fear the wrath of unhappy patrons will arise. The angry mobs will cast aside yet another disliked evil meany weapon. It will not end there! Oh no... For the next flavor of the month adopted will meet the cries and shouts of the unbalanced pleas.

Rejoice for soon this game will cater to you, the devs will bow to your cries! You will have your World of Zombiecraft and balance shall never be balanced. So it begins...

This... this man deserves over a million cans of beans. You have mine, at least.

Lee Enfield.

I admit, the Enfield does quite good. Its bullets barely drop until about 500m, and even then. It's a great rifle for anyone who thinks the sniper scopes are too powerful for usage but at the same time wants a pretty powerful rifle.

Also for bolt action fans. And 'classic army' fans.

I also thought it was gone - but it happened yesterday. The guy was hit once by a M24 shot (I saw the blood) - the guy was leaving the game after this first hit.

The best looking sniper rifle is the SVD Camo in my eyes. With this nice camouflage - it is just beautiful.

Remove the .50 cals from the game? I would say clearly NO. You need it to stop vehicles and just to put in some realism - these weapons are used in actual conflicts also against soft targets. So they are legit and they hurt! Let them in the game. If someone gets shot over and over by snipers, it is not the problem of the weapon or the bandits - it is the problem of the player. During my entire playtime in DayZ I was shot 2 times by a sniper. People just have to learn how to move through sniper-controlled areas. If you get shot all the time YOU are doing something terribly wrong and you should think about your movement tactics.

Trust me, we do not need more removal of weapons from the game. Still, people cry foul over weapons they get fairly killed by - .50 Cals, DMR spammers... eventually the game will be reduced to people running around throwing rocks at each other.

I personally like the DMR, since I'm a pretty good shot, and if the first shot doesn't knock them out, the second shot will and potentially kill them. Also helps to eliminate combat loggers.

Part of the problem is the extremely high amount of ammunition that allows you to waste antimaterial bullets on players. Imagine you only have 10 bullets for that .50 rifle and must save them carefully in case you see that chopper moving to your position.

Since Dayz doesnt have highly armored vehicles, common sniper rifles should be enough to take down wheels and crew. Killing gunners make choppers run away fast, and you dont need a .50 cal for that.

I prefer standard non auto snipers, because each shot counts and it adds to the experience, IMHO.

PD: Ofc I use every m107 and As50 i can find, because pwning chops and trucks with that is piss easy, but there are many other options.

Now I'm pretty sure OPFOR in real life don't complain about the real-life U.S. and British M82/M107 and the AS50.

Mostly because they're dead before they can complain about the overpowered-ness of that weapon. Seriously, if the weapon in-game performs like it does in real life, we shouldn't be complaining. Besides, I feel awesome when I shoot down a helicopter with a single M107 round.

If there is a way to plug a scope on the enfield in the standalone, i wont have a second thougt about using it

its crazy, it has almost the same precicsion and bullet drop like the M24, and it even does more damage for the lulz (10000 i think?)

forgot the nerf, now its 6722...

The point of the enfield is that it DOESN'T have a scope. That's the novelty of it.

A scoped enfield is the M24 basically. Use it instead.

Sadly though this is ArmA2... :(

Joking, I don't really care about the animation myself.

Correct, the DMR is a bit inaccurate at long range, and you have to be pretty experienced with its mil-dots. The M24 is DEAD ACCURATE, and so I prefer it for hardcore sniping.

For me the scope's too powerful. I have to ask zombies and snipers to move back and stand on the next hill, across the field and it isn't often they agree to it. Actually, now I think of it, I think I've ended up dead every single time.

That's why the enfield was is here :). Just have an Enfield and maybe binoculars and you're set.

Still, they are useful because provide accurate visual clue about when the rifle is ready to shoot another round -I always find quite awkward having to wait x amount of time to fire another round with the m24 while the bullet magically loads itself, for example.

I think that small details like that will add a lot to the experience and feeling. (talking bout standalone, ofc)

Additionally, it has that animation already. If you take a look, the bolt is retracted during the reload animation.

Not to nitpick, (Ok, im nitpicking) but the animation is almost spot on, except that the shell casing is being ejected as he is closing the bolt, it should eject as he is opening, before loading the next round in.

Im not certain that is a casing. It looks like he is jamming a clip of bullets into a spent rifle and that thing is the empty clip itself. Don't know why the clip would be flying off like that to begin with as leaving it in place would most likely jam the bolt.

Although there is no animation, the sound mod JSRS (which some DayZ servers allow) has the satisfying sound of it. It also gives you an audio cue as to when you can fire again, rather than having to look in the top right for the text to go green.

I use the m24 all day everyday, but I could care less about a thread designed to discuss it

Then why, on Earth, did you come in here??? Was it really to just troll away with your comment? If you do not know this, I feel for your parents... but your comment did NOTHING for this thread.

I shoot a Remington 300 ultra in RL. The only issues I see with the authenticity of cycling the bolt, is the time it takes to reacquire target, along with the actual bolt cycling itself. Target acquisition can be a bit difficult after shooting a high power hunting rifle, so this would give the semi-auto sniper rifles even more of a distinct advantage. As much as I would like to see more authentic weapon emulation, they have to draw the line somewhere.

OK, I'll bite on this...

In which alternate reality do you live in that led you to the conclusion that the ballistics of a 5.56 round would pierce an engine block?

Taken from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5.56%C3%9745mm_NATO The only round that would come close would be the M855A1 penetrator round which was "...able to penetrate 38 inches (9.5 mm) of steel plate at 300 meters". Taking into account that THIS round would have to go through the sheet metal body of a vehicle to GET to the engine block (not to mention angle of fire and subsequent deflection of the bullet) reduces its energy, and would hold little hope for actually piercing an engine block/head to do any sort of damage to the engine whatsoever.

Joking, I don't really care about the animation myself.

Still, since Dayz is more focused on ambientation and "feeling" the life of a survivor than Arma 2 real combat simulation, good animations could give the game a beautiful touch.

Im not certain that is a casing. It looks like he is jamming a clip of bullets into a spent rifle and that thing is the empty clip itself. Don't know why the clip would be flying off like that to begin with as leaving it in place would most likely jam the bolt.

True, its the empty clip. They decided to apply the Rule of Cool, though.

Although there is no animation, the sound mod JSRS (which some DayZ servers allow) has the satisfying sound of it.

I'll give that a try for sure.
