Bit of a n00b question.

Can you leave your back pack somewhere safe while exploring town etc so if you die and have to respawn you can find it and pick it up? I have accumulated some good survival gear that would make a respawn a little easier.

Thanks in advance.

I would suggest finding a tent and use that to store your stuff. This way you can set it up somewhere safe, store your gear and it will still be there even after server restarts (so long as it doesnt get found and raided!)

As stated previously...

As long as someone doesn't find it in the meantime, or the server doesn't restart, or it magically despawns [which seldom happens], you should be perfectly fine!

#1 Rule in DayZ.. Dont fall in love with your gear. your gonna lose it, just a matter of time. My advise is joining a clan, that way you have buddys to help you gear back up quickly. But half the fun in DayZ IS gearing imo. There's two ways to look at this game, survival or PvP. I enjoy both, so, sometimes I tell my mates dont bother to pick me up, I'll gear by myself. Other times I'll have one of my boys meet me somewhere close and gear me. Depends on my mood.

The point is, I have the option of spending an hour gearing or getting it done in minutes. Join a clan.

I must have had bad luck with the magic despawns because its happened to me a bunch of times, also had my pack become non intractable a few times after placing it on the ground which was worse than the despawn and made me a very sad panda. :(

I once had a Coyote backpack with an M249 SAW, NVGS, ghillie suit and some ammo in there. I dropped it by accident and it went poof!

This has also happened to me, i cant remember exactly what i wanted to drop but hit the backpack and dropped it. Aaaaagh

It was also non-intractable, but i found if you go prone and into frist-person you might get the interact menu up. Now i saying might because it took me about twenty minutes of getting really frustrated before i got the option. Sometimes it works, then sometimes it just gets the better of you.....

Never use the drop button in your inventory, if you do it's impossible to predict what happens to that gear. Sometimes it just deletes itself and sometimes it disappears for 20-30 seconds, before it respawns randomly somewhere around you. Using the < arrows > in left inventory window guarantees that the item is dropped exactly at your feet.

Worst thing is, on your screen the bag is gone but for everyone else it's there to take. I figured out this when I was playing with a friend, I dropped my bag and it was gone, he saw it and could pick it up easily. He picked it up and on his screen the bag he dropped was gone but on my screen it was there.

Oldboy, never let go of your backpack, man! Far too many thieves and bandits around.

I feel your pain, Inception. It's a long-lasting, dull, ache of a pain!
