colekern 1364 Posted December 6, 2012 The point the following suggestions is to make driving a vehicle more immersive and more and action-packed. The first suggestion is to make running over zombies or players more realistic-ish. What I recommend is making it so that if you hit someone, they don't just fall over dead. They affect the car in some way. For example: You hit a zombie, the zombie might go under the car, beside the car, or over the car. What effects could this have? Well, of course, dents, but let's say zombie goes over the car. What if it could damage the windshield by cracking it or smashing it? I think it would jsut be a cool cinematic feature. My second suggestion is the ability to duck behind the dash in the car. I'm suggesting it because I saw a video where a guy managed to headshot a guy in a car because the driver tried to ram him. What is that person could duck like in real-life? He would've avoided the bullets, but he would've been blind. I just think it would be interesting to add.Anyways, that's my suggestion. Peace.
Happymrsnowman 52 Posted December 6, 2012 I like your ideas. They're pretty obvious and wouldn't be hard to implement. Essentially it would make bodies count as minor collisions with respect to vehicles. Also ducking would be as simple as enabling the CROUCH button in the vehicle. Lower the hitbox below the windshield and lower player vision below the steering wheel. Easy and sensible!

oshi7 365 Posted December 6, 2012 The stand alone is going to have some ragdoll physics, rather than death animations, so this request should be covered already. With the RV engine (what Arma uses) there is always going to be a slight amount of latency, but thats part of the charm of the engine IMO.
DemonGroover 8836 Posted December 6, 2012 Maybe if you hit something at high speed you can also fly through the windscreen of fly off the bike?
colekern 1364 Posted December 6, 2012 Maybe if you hit something at high speed you can also fly through the windscreen of fly off the bike? That seems like a terribly awesome idea.
Happymrsnowman 52 Posted December 6, 2012 Maybe if you hit something at high speed you can also fly through the windscreen of fly off the bike?Definitely doable. I think that's a little higher level than what we're discussing since it requires a bit more.... analysis. coding. you know WORK.The ragdoll physics should impact body collisions as it is, so basically as soon as its implemented, so will the vehicle collision take effect. The ducking thing is basically allowing for one button press inside a vehicle. Animations aside it seems stupid easy to do. Even if they were to omit the animation and just have the player act as a popup target it'd still work, especially at this stage in the game.

Happymrsnowman 52 Posted December 6, 2012 YeaaaFor the love of god, can we get some airbags and seatbelts?Yeaaaaaaah, because you know, soviet era vehicles were all about the safety measures. Lets stick to legitimate suggestions.
MarcDaKind 37 Posted December 6, 2012 (edited) I love both ideas, but the second one will never be possible in lazy country DayZ (3rd person servers). It would result in everyone crouching all the time when driving, while using the blatantly unbalanced third person to navigate. But if third person gets removed in standalone (If rockets follows his vision, instead the casual players whining), It would be a great feature adding some tactical depth! PracticalTactical 164 Posted December 6, 2012 I would like to be able to take some heavy steel and weld it to the front and replace the bumper with some thick iron piping. Then when you run over zombies, players, fences, small bushes, trees it does not dammage the car.
