Our backpacks could be the real problem?

Recommended Posts

Could it be that the cause of this whole "team deathmatch" problem is the fact that we (any/all players) are pretty much walking pinatas because we always carry most of what we own with us at all times? Shouldn't stashing our equipment away (if only for a few minutes while we go check out that house for any potential supplies) come more naturally throughout our travels?

If we would only travel more lightly more often, maybe this bean-killing mentality would be less of a problem. The risk would still be just as great in engaging in battle (maybe have our bags/carts* despawn fast enough to make it hard for us to recover them after a respawn but slow enough to enable the killer or some random nearby to search for it?) but the gain would be a lot less for spontaneous situations, seeing as finding the murder-victim's stash would be pretty slim.

Also, if it were real life; would you really run around with 4 cans of beans and 4 soda cans, some steaks, a rifle and a sideweapon (plus whatever else we might carry in-game) everywhere you go? Wouldn't it be easier to just leave your shit some place relatively safe while you go sneaking around in zombie-infested areas and just bring an empty, light-weight bag with you for any beans you find and want to bring back?

Would you bring your assault rifle/sniper/shotgun with you into zombie-town, or just the pistol?

*I want a trolley to put all my beans in! I could take the hit to travel-time and stamina, easily. Just let me keep all those beans!

Inb5 "tents": What I'm talking about isn't as much about settling down somewhere for the night as much as just temporarily "parking our loot-trolley" somewhere at the treeline while exploring the village/farm/reading the roadsigns.

I know you can put your bag on the ground, but maybe implementing a feature to just throw everything not needed in desperate situations down on the ground (and maybe add a camo-blanket as an item to conceal it) would make more people use it more often, etc. (Also, realistically, would hostile strangers even be on your "top 5 worries list" as a seemingly lone survivor in this apocalyptic situation?)

Maybe this belongs in the "Suggestions" section, but I wanna keep this discussion more general about traveling light vs. living geared up and mobile vs. slower migration/exploration with a lot of camping, killing for lootz in general and whether this actually plays a big role in the abundance of bean-bandits and griefers.

All ideas and criticisms are welcome.

Except for the stupid ones.

Also, sorry if there's already a similar thread. I honestly couldn't think of any search keywords for this topic.

EDIT: Obviously this "to bring or not to bring backpack into town" would be based on some mechanic involving increased/decreased stamina and dexterity based on weight of load-out.

Until server crashes/resets stop eating my vehicles and tents, I'm going to keep carrying my most important crap on my person.

Also, once you can actually hide tents somewhere, instead of putting them in the middle of a dang field.

Your first point is good but is attributed to DayZ being in Alpha.

The second point I pretty much saw coming. Would you really bother setting up a tent IRL just to go check out some house by the road? It's more about immersion than the actual mechanic of tents, here.

the "team deathmatch" isnt the problem. its people like you who want to turn the game into a MMO. Also it is not real life it is a video game so it doesn't have to follow all the strict rules of RL. Yes you would bring your best weapon with you into town would you rather confront bandits with a measly pistol or a zombie horde? NO. you bring what will knock the blocks off anything.

Stop tryng to pervert the game with silly suggestions to pigeon hole people into one role. Not everyone wants to be a friendly survivor there are people who just want to see the world burn. As it would be in Rl.

I think we should spawn without a backpack.(At least those chest pouches would be usefull then!).

Also go back to flares instead of torch. All noobs start on a daytime server anywhere, we just end up with torches being left everywhere as it stands.

you would rather be pigeon holed into playing as a bandit? you cant play as a survivor, its a death sentence. the problem is that everyone is playing as a bandit because there is no choice.

a; because there is nothing to do in the game, and b; playing as a survivor is IMPOSSIBLE.

a survivor assumes all the risks and none of the rewards. why even bother trying? no one does, which is why we're playing a deathmatch with a few zombies around.

Very few dedicated bandits kill for items, myself included. If this was the case, it would be working completely as intended. If someone is really well equipped, better equipped than you, then you should want to kill them, that is common sense. The problem arises when people kill others and take absolutely nothing from them, while suffering almost no consequences.

I think this is only a temporary problem because it's an alpha with no real end-game; people are bored and therefor pvp. I think it'll be a non-issue later on. What needs to be solved is the kill -> win the loot-game. I personally would only consider willingly murdering another player if he/she is fully geared with military eq. because I'm literally gaining all that player has accomplished up to that point, saving myself a long and risky trip to a military camp/NWAF.

That would never happen if players were only jogging around in their clothing and a weapon and with all their other gear laying around near-by in any of those hundreds of bushes. Not gonna waste my time searching them most likely, and even if I would, I wouldn't have to kill the owner of the goods to steal it.
