Do inventories carry over? And a couple of other questions.

Recommended Posts

Hello, everyone. SuperSATA here. At the time of writing, I'm a noob to Day Z, even after watching most of the Frankie on PC videos. I just have a couple of questions to ask. These are pretty big issues for me, so I'd appreciate as many replies as possible.

Keep in mind that I use Day Z commander to access every server I've tried.

First, regarding the inventory system. I was playing on a server, but I noticed that it was a private hive server. I know from Frankie on PC that private hive servers have little to no hackers, but that's it. I tried switching to a different server, which also happened to be a private hive. (I don't always read the server name.) I noticed that the shotgun and Makarov that I had found in the first private hive server were both gone. Do private hive servers have a "what you get here stays here" policy? If so, that really sucks, since pretty much the only low ping, 1.7.4.4 servers available are either veteran or private hive. Which brings me to my next question.

When I filter the server list to only display low ping, current version, and unlocked servers, it only brings up about fifteen servers, most of which are veteran or private hive. Am I doing it wrong? Also, does anyone know of any good servers that meet my criteria?

That's it for now. I might have to add more questions to this later, but I'd really appreciate answers to my nooby questions. Bye!

Some private hives are linked together...for example all servers hosted by Vilayer are linked together. As for the other question I don't think you are doing it wrong, most full servers don't have very good ping so they won't be on there. Also when you tick current version it removes all servers with older beta patches than you, even though you will still be able to enter them. Hope this helps a little :)

When you say linked together, do you mean that your inventory in that server doesn't carry over to a different server?

Public Hive = Server with persistent stats and inventory across ALL servers that run on the Public Hive

Private Hive = Server that hosts its own database results for stats and inventory. These private hives differ from SERVER TO SERVER.

Say server X,Y,Z are Public Hive servers. Your weapons, items and stats will remain the same regardless of which server you choose.

Now server A,B,C are Private Hive servers. Playing on server A will only save your stats etc on server A. Going to server B will make it appear that you are "Starting over". Same thing if you went to server C.

EDIT: Granted there are Private hives that are connected like Timmy said. Condsider them to be servers Da Db Dc and they act like Public Hive servers, but only within their own Private Hive group.

I hope that helps clarify a bit.

Use the "Favorite Server" option on DayZCommander to keep tabs on your favorite servers.

How do you know which private hive servers are in a group?

They usually have the hive name in the server name. Ex: John Doe Server Daylight 24/7 Herp Derp Hive will have your location and gear transfer over to any other server that has "Herp Derp Hive" in its name.

And another thing I have to say, now that my question is answered.

I literally can't do anything in this game without immediately being seen by zombies, even a kilometer away. Whether I prone, crouch, walk, or run, it's always the same. They always see me, and the game is rendered unplayable.

Just keep working on it mate - i'm into day 5 and still struggling - but the moments when things work out are really worthwhile.

Trust me

Don't get discouraged. Yes, zombies are pretty good at noticing you, but if you keep playing you will learn how they operate and will be able to avoid them. One bit of advice, never move if a zombie is facing your direction. Zombies will only see you if they are facing you, so do not move until they turn away.

Also, when in doubt, crawl.

Ok, thanks guys. I appreciate the advice. Giving up is never an option for me, but saying that doesn't make better my situation.

@Regicide That's a good point, being conscious of the direction they face. I hadn't thought of that!

Also, After watching some of Frankie's videos myself i noticed that hiding in an Evergreen Pine tree or bush seems to makes zombies lose interest in you after awhile without causing any damage to yourself.

Alright, It's becoming more and more obvious that my inventory doesn't carry over no matter what. Any thoughts?

Even on the same server? Like if you log out with your gear and then log back into the SAME server you haven't got the same gear no more?

No, actually. The stuff that I have in each server are staying in each server. My problem is that when I go to a different server I lose it.

I realize now that that's supposed to happen on private hive servers, but it happens on every server I try to get on.

Most servers are private nowadays, you sure you arent going on private servers? (just because you have your filter set to 'filter out unofficial servers' does NOT mean that all servers will be public. Obviously the filter doesnt quite work right because there are a lot of private servers that still show up when you check that option.

Where are you from? If you from the UK try UK172 and then go to UK410 and see if you still have same gear as I know for a fact both of those are public and my gear carries through between both of those. So yeah if your doesnt carry through then you do have a problem, if it does carry through then it works as it should :)
