Dayz standalone MMO direction.. Suggestions.

Recommended Posts

First of all I'd like to say. And so excited about the upcoming stand alone release! Defiantly one to purchase.

Anyways I have been following the hinted vague features that will be released With the stand alone and wow it really blows my mind as to all of the possible features.

back on topic.. I like how this is going and personally I'd like to see "instances" implemented where teams can role play against stronger zombie monsters or opposing teams for rare weapon / vehicle finds. I mean well I don't like the way that you have user based maps where high geared players camp out and dominate servers.

Anyways pulling the WOW idea of instances and banking systems would be ground breaking and amazing for a First person shooter zombie apocalypse. I mean it would keep the game fresh with new instances / war grounds brought out etc..

Maybe some sort of auction house system where you can sell or trade rare weapons?

I hope people don't find this a game killing suggestion but a step in the direction of groundbreaking and ever befor seen gameplay for first person shooter games.

Anyways let me know what your thoughts are on this.

I don´t like the instance idea at all. The plan is to make a large Cheranus Plus Map. So people will spread over the map other then now. i think it will solve the "high end gear player camping" problem on his own. Also the weapons won´t be abel to be duped in the Standalone which will dramaticly decrease the high end gear ingame.

Also basicily the weapon focus for the Standalone are "home weapons" and lower tier weapons. Which in my opionion sound like the Killer Sniper´s will be removed.

Anyways pulling the WOW idea of instances and banking systems would be ground breaking and amazing for a FPS shooter zombie apocalypse. I mean it would keep the game fresh with new instances brought out etc..

Banking (you mean storing?) - Underground struktures are planned to be implementet they will at least be instances, that can be acessed by players and used to store items i think. Rocket meantioned something like it before.

Rocket also said in an interview that he thinks he will implement new maps over time where player can travel, so we will he some fresh things coming up.

Many some sort of auction house system where you can sell or trade rare weapons?

Trades should be like now , its okay the System work... And why turn off the Dangerous side of trades. People should find there own way to trade and how to make it save.

last but not least, i hope there wont be any currency implementet so players can choose what they want to trade and what the price/items for it should be.

DayZ will be MMO-like.

Not MMORPG.

There will be no instances, it will simply be a set of servers like there are now, with a map called Chernarus Plus. It will be like Chernarus, but a lot of things added and tweaked. (Like almost, if not all buildings being enterable.)

And it's not ever going to be "true MMO," as there won't be more than about 50-60 players at most in one server at a time. Mount&Blade is not an MMO, and that game can support battlefields of 120 people and over.

I guess my worry is that very quickly people will work out where high end gear can be obtained thus camping will begin.

A head shot from a "low end" weapon will get you just as dead. Organization and tactics will beat gear in this game 9 of 10 times.

Instances are just another "easy button" and against the core of what this game is about. You find little support here for anything related to WoW. DayZ is the anti-WoW. For your own sanity please check your gear fetish at the door.

Not sure what game you have been playing, but I've killed tons of people flipping a barracks or camping well known loot spots. This game is very much gear driven. One shot from a Makarov will not kill you, but one from an AS50 will. The gear fetish you say doesn't exist is actually what drives most of the PvP in this game. I really don't think you could possibly be more wrong.

The "banking" is already taken care of with tents, and Paddy pointed out, the underground structures (eventually) will do this too.

You can still get robbed. That's the point.

Instanced combat arenas with prizes? Hell no. Slap yourself in the face for me.

Rank that with the "entirely unsuitable, and you should be sorry for ever suggesting it" ideas, like "fast-travel", and pay-to-win "God Guns"

Zipper, while you're right about players being gear-focused, even the best kitted players don't pose an insurmountable problem.

I've killed an AS-50 pot-shotter with a hatchet. But the gear fetish is what drives the simple-minded. ^_^

Most of the PvP in this game is just dick-swinging out of boredom.

"I really don't think you could possibly be more wrong" is a total exaggeration.

I don't want to come off like a dick, but how is doing it "Just like WoW" even remotely "groundbreaking"? To quote my favorite Spaniard, "You keep using this word, I don't think it means what you hink it means."
