I'm never going to another deerstand again.

After 13 days on a character, mapping out every damn deerstand on the map (at least, most?), and spending an absolutely insane number of hours jogging between all those stands, I have not found a single gun better than an m1014, or AKM/AK74-Kobra. I actually spent a very long time rolling with a CZ 550 I found in a damn barn.

I figured EVENTUALLY, after 300 or 400 stands I'd find something neat, but I never did.

Fuck those things.

A week ago I got killed and spawned at Kamenka, I visited 5 deer stands on my way north.

Picked up among others:

Coyote

DMR, 1 mag

M9SD, 2 mags

Guess I got lucky.

Ive never had much luck but Ive found tons of DMR ammo thankfully in them and also ammo for my M4s.. they are nice to hit on your way north to Stary or AF for a quick AK or other gear. I would say maybe 1/5 I find something good like a Kobra or something.. however I consider them waypoints when im heading somewhere I never intentionally seek them out.. just swing by when they are within a min or two of me. Due to them being having 2 spawns odds are not the greatest of finding great gear.. however thats still 2 chances of some decent loot. They can spawn anything most military spawns can.. just with only 2 chances not the greated of luck...

I must be a terrible person.

Around the 300th deerstand I found that was empty (or had some crap weapon) I took the CZ and proceeded to murder 16 people (AND ONE BANDIT) in cherno. I'm definitely a bad person now.

Thankfully I just died a few minutes ago, and now can take my freshly minted new character on suicide runs of airfields and firestations. The game can be fun again.

@Latros: I'm very familiar with that document. But statistics and me apparently don't get along. I've also never found a gun in a barracks, despite 15-20 combs through both at the NWAF. I've been shot though. Twice.

Deer Stands aren't as good as military camps or the airfields but they are much much safer and spawn some decent loot. I've gotten frag grenades, an elite coyote pack, a DRM and an M9SD on top of a wealth of more common loot.

What guards a deer stand? 0-3 zombies. Odds of running into another player? Fairly low.

Ive not had much luck anywhere but at Stary... Stary has what 15 tents? each tent has 2 spawns of military loot... so thats 30 spawns worth of chances for some good loot... Ive never gone there and not seen at least 1 good weapon or piece of gear. And also theres always a chopper or two down for loot within a minute or two to the NE/ E of it.

I go out of my way to loot Deerstand's. Chance of Military loot? Yes plz!

-M4a1 with 2 Mags

-AK74u Kobra with 1 Mag

-Many many 5.56 Mags / AKM

Deerstands are great loot, are you high? Always visit them. Just be careful and press CROUCH / PRONE / FORWARD right away when you reach top, to not fall to your death. Evil lurks in them deerstands!

I masturbate in the deer stands. Also the damn things seem to always find a way to break my damn legs so I never bother to even climb up. Didn't even know loot spawned in them. Figured they were just death traps.

Dude I fucking LOVE deer stands, I spent 60-80% of my playtime running to and from them. I hate towns, nothing but deathtraps full of assholes, zombies and zombie assholes. I have found so much good shit in deer stands I couldn't possibly remember it all, I know for sure that I'm on my second DMR from deer stands though so I'm pretty lucky with them. My dad got his GPS in one, I found a GPS once but the server crashed as I was about to loot it (man was I livid). All in all I'd say anyone would be crazy to not hit up any deerstands they find.

Seriously what game are you guys playing? Cuz I don't think it's the same one as me. Everyone on the forums and in servers (that still have global enabled...) talk on and on about their DMRs, their Mk48s, their M24s, their M107s, all the amazing things they've looted.

I've never seen ANY of those things on a loot pile. I saw a DMR once. I shot the guy carrying it. He force quit before I could finish him off.

This is after a good 20 days of playing. Am I really just the most unlucky player ever?

I found a Coyote Backpack in one last night, and a m24 with 3 mags in another today.

Found tons of good shit on them, we always make a point of hitting any on the way to wherever we're going.

The game is officially trolling me now.

I found a corpse with an M249 on it, and thought 'neat I'll take that', since all I had was an AKM with no ammo. I had previously never seen a machinegun in dayz before. So I pick it up, which makes me drop my AKM and my backpack both. I think 'oh that's not cool' and drop the SAW to pick up my backpack and AKM again, because I'd rather have a backpack than a machinegun. But the backpack and AKM had disappeared. When I dropped the SAW, it disappeared too, so I was running around NWAF with no backpack, and no gun.

I found an M1014 laying in a hangar with one pile of shells next to it, and pick it up thinking '8 shots with an M1014 is better than nothing', turns out the pile of shells was for a winchester.

Hateful game.
