Why Collect

I was wondering why people are collecting like hamsters all the time.

For instance, our "gang" have been busy for 2 hours to collect stuff, in that time they have killed a couple of bandits and actually everybody has everything again. Then we find a chopper, it takes 2 hours to get it fixed and get everybody at it at the airfield, they all come up to the chopper and i see they even have 2 SUV's.

What do you think they want the chopper pilot to go and do ??

Well the little buggers want me to go and fly around and find other peoples camps for gear , WHAT THE FUCK, we have been playing for 4 hours and everybody is geared up with 2 sets of everything.

I can not understand this human behaviour, what do want to do with all that stuff and vehicles, they just want to park it some where and don't touch it any more, they just want to collect to have it stolen again, most when we come back on the next day the camp has already been comprimised and the party is starting all over again :(

I just want to have fun, i just want to do something with all that stuff instead of druling over it with a boner.

It is almost all the same everywhere, find stuff for couple of hours and then start looking for more stuff for a couple of hours.

So my question again is WHY ????????????

Can't we just have a fun game and use all the fun tools and toys.

That's how you play. The point is it's a sandbox, you can do whatever you like! I gave up collecting/hoarding/base building ages ago.

I know hording is a problem sometimes for me too - My dayz Day yesterday was:

searching Items --> Geared up --> search more items --> Some Firefights .... --> Die --> searching items --> Geared up --> search more items...

And ill Probably die again while search items for my Team to put in our Stock....

Sometimes is nice to find the good weapons but i can have fun with an Enfield too...

I'm not complaining, i have way to much fun with this game........But i'm also really waiting for Arma 3, DayZ made the waiting much more fun :)

The nice thing in DayZ is that you can decide for yourself what to do. When somebody likes to hamster, let them do it. When somebdy wants to kill with a hatchet and a coyote patrol pack: no problem.

Play the style you want. Every playstyle is acceptable in this game, because it's sandbox (of course no alt + f4 and so on).

Do what you prefer and this is the best.

Its not the problem to search and scavenge on items, Dayz really is fun but sometimes i have a feeling that its the same all the Time.

i used to be a Bandit long time... But shooting people didn´t gave me the satisfaction i was looking for after a while. Now im an Hero - Helping People, it makes the game harder in the way you play but its more fun to see People are thankfull for your help - better then drop from your bullet...

Im still hunting but only Banits ^-^ (i know im posting in bandits campfire lol) Im waiting for Dayz Standalone an Cheranus + , and Arma 3 too.

Buyed Arma 2 for Dayz , stayed for Dayz and the game itself :D

Just because I did not script rules, doesn't stop anyone from making their own in game.

Are people so used to games shoving rules, tasks, stories down their throats that they can't handle it when something doesn't? Or would you like a world where the players actually get to do this? Not a structured and controlled environment that is "dressed up" as post-apocalyptic?

On a serious note, though;

It's a perma-death game. The reason why looting and scavenging is so common along with camps is that it makes the start of the game a whole lot easier, assuming you have a reliable spot for your camp.

you could start giving away stuff..and if you sometimes die you'll need your backup gear...don't hoard too much and don't have fear to use your vehicles and weapons..for example, when you are all together just say: ok guys i'm having a little tour with the atv,i don't know, i'll keep with me also that dmr and a couple of tank traps and you just go! if they say something to stop you you just go...so

1)you will have fun killing someone or helping some noob

2)you will die and they will come rescue you on the coast or you'll need some of your hoarded gear.

All you need is an extra set tucked away in a car or a tent. After that is taken care of, I can play the game to the fullest, trolling, griefing, or being a hero giving rides and patching people up.

New ideas for how to play the game:

• Don't gear up. Just get in the way of people. Block entrances, etc. Move into peoples intimate zones. See what happens.
  
• Only gear up tin cans, and then go around throwing them at people.
  
• Only collect bandages, and be the bandage-man ambulance. "Bandages! Bandages over here!"
  
• Hunt tents and carefully set them up at weird places to spook people. Fill them with... wathever you want to give away, and then drop either glow sticks or make a row of campfires to guide survivors to it.
  

So yeah. Anybody else?

Could always find a group of competent-players or ones that, at least, have a plan. Most of my times, I'll find an other survivor or two and if s/he isnt a PC_Zombie (aggros at any/every-thing, always at loot-spawns...never looting) we'll join-forces, find a vehicle and go for bigger-gear than we could by ourselves. End up having good-times, most of the time.

Sounds like you'd be interested in a free-for-all, no-holds barred, death match. All the vehicles, all the weapons. Have you seen/tried any of the other mods for Arma 2?
