fire_hazard 19 Posted November 20, 2012 (edited) Please only let a Dev answer this folks.OK we can see our personal inventory slots. We know boats don't have any slotsHowever what about cars, trucks, tents and heli's?Can a box of matches really take up the same room as a 50 cal rifle??As far as me - I can live with what ever choices the dev's make. However can a Dev reply as to what/how many of what will fit in these? Thanks for your time in this matter Edited November 20, 2012 by kb5ixd

Rivy 32 Posted November 20, 2012 He does have a point though. A box of matches being the same size of a knife, that's the same as a bandage, that's the same as a can of soda, that's the same size of a crossbow bolt and an epi-pen ? :PAlso, why do I have to put bandages in my belt (is it my belt ?), and I can't put them in the same inventory morphine and primary mags use ? Why can't I put an M16 mag in the same spot I put my PDW mags ?It feels arbitrary and ridiculous.

liamcz@hotmail.com 98 Posted November 20, 2012 (edited) It has already been stated that in the SA there will be a much more improved inventory system. There will be no change to the inventory and how it works during the Alpha stages of the mod.And no. A box of matches does not take up the same amount of space that a .50 does. There is a dedicated weapon, backpack and item capacity which all differ from one another and change depending on what type of vehicle it is.And as for the pdw mags not being able to fit in STANAG pouches and vice versa, that answers itself. How would one fit a 30rnd 5.56 mag in a 9mm magazine pouch? It doesn't happen. There are dedicated positions on the body in which are there to store different items. That's just how it works, and it works exactly the same in the military - in which this game is based off the simulation of.Case closed. Things like matches and so on are new objects/items that have been added to the original game. Because it's a mod, the devs have been unable to change the inventory system/improve it. It's being written from the ground up for the standalone.

What he was complaining about is that certain mags and bandages can only go in the secondary slots, while other mags can only go in the primary slots. disorder 344 Posted November 20, 2012 (edited) Yes, well only sidearm mags go in secondary. Primary weapon mags go in primary slot. Unless you have an mp5 like me and you can use G17 rounds in it.This feature is part of the game ARMA, not the mod DAYZ. DayZ just adds new items you can put in either slot, but the inventory system is the same in ARMA. Edited November 20, 2012 by disorder

It's just something we have got used to with Mod.
ZomboWTF 527 Posted November 20, 2012 i hope they will actually change this, though i think rocket said something about changing the inventory system completelyfor a realistic inventory system, a person could be able to carry about 30kg with them at all times in their backpack, including weapons and ammo and allevery item has a volume in m³ and a weigth in kg or pounds, a backpack gives you the limitations for the volume, as does your personal inventory, and also the overall weigth can't be above a certain value, or you can only walk instead of running (this would make cars a requirement for repairing helos btw)of course some things need to be unrealistic, you cant carry around a main rotor assembly, also no one would know how to assemble it IRL, but without, it just wont make funhowever, adding both volume limitations to the backpacks and a maximum weigth you can run with would make perfect sense to me
disorder 344 Posted November 20, 2012 Yeah that is funny about the rotor. It's like we have to learn survival and aviation engineering? Where did we learn that? Like sitting in a dusty old simulator, that probably did it.
fire_hazard 19 Posted November 20, 2012 (edited) Thanks Derpy_Hooves - i understand - the inventory system is 'different'Ya Zombo - like how do you fit a heli rotor in a backpack - lol - should be a 'truck only item'What the Dev's come up with in standalone will be interesting Edited November 20, 2012 by kb5ixd
