A new bandit is born

Recommended Posts

From the time i started playing DayZ, i always tried to be a good survivor, minding my own business but help others out if they need it. I would pick people up, give them bloodbags, morphine or whatever they needed. I trusted random survivors because i believed in everyones good intentions. I never shot anyone who was just passing by, regardless if he saw me or not, if he had better gear than i did or not. If someone shot me, i'd rather run away than take their life (if i survived the initial shots, that is)

You already know where this is going. Of course, i got betrayed, abused and eventually killed.

Well, no problem, i got more careful. I made sure to have vision of the people i wanted to help before they got vision of me. I made them drop their guns. Where-ever i ran, i made sure to be as sneaky as possible, scout the surroundings as good as possible and don't give anyone a reason to kill me (by pointing a gun at someone or running up to him or whatever)

All in all, i was the most friendly guy i have ever seen (and seriously, i never shot anyone first, and hardly shot someone after they attacked me).

This leads me to two recent stories that i wanted to share.

story #1

It was quite a nice day on Namalsk Island, windy as hell tho, as it always is. I just spawned because last time i played, i got shot by a sniper from across the "river" (meaning the ocean that separates the two main islands) while i, again, had just respawned.

Thanks to the little text that pops up at the bottom right corner, the dayzdb map and some observation skill i found out i spawned near a military base. "Oh well, I got nothing, might as well run there and check what's going on."

The server had 4 people on it at that time.

As i reach the base, i find an m16 in one of the barracks. Unfortunately there was no ammo for it anywhere, so i head towards a bigger building. As i leave the barracks i pass a guy with a DMR. I run into the building and quickly type "theres no ammo in that gun, seriously". We promise to not kill eachother and chat a bit while we are waiting for his friend. After some looting i had a coyote backpack, warm clothes, an aks74u, a cco sd and basically everything except for nvgs.

The fourth guy on the server states he is a bandit. Since we have been chatting in the side chat about our location all the time he decided to get up there and kill us. While my newly found friends alt+f4 as i call out in chat that he's here, i manage to take him down.

So far, so good. Unfortunately i had suffered from the cold earlier and was at about 6k blood due to an infection. Thankfully the badnit had antibiotics with him.

I decide that it's time to go hunt some animals. After about an hour (the server had about 20 people on it at this time) i had gathered enough meat to actually heal myself to full.

I set up a fire in the middle of nowhere and cook the meat. As i scout out the area with binoculars ... *bang* dead.

Oh well, guess i scared that guy with his DMR that i couldnt even see, not hear the shot.

story #2

Im in Fallujah. I had spend a couple of days to get decent gear, a car and set up two tents in a little wood. I only trust people that i have seen online regularly and that i had good interactions with so far. I think i got sloppy because everyone was friendly, or stated if he wasnt.

A guy i had met several times asks me for help, he needs a bloodbag. I decide to help him. Meanwhile a stranger (Nico) has logged on. He died twice already and asks if i could pick him up and take him to the airfield because im headed there anyways. I pick him up and we make our way to the airfield, but he disconnects shortly before we reach it. Since the other guy needs my help, i go on and help him. Nico logs back in and begs me to pick him up at the airfield again. He wants me to come to the barracks so he doesnt get killed by zombies. As i wait for him utside he steps out, stops and points his dmr at me. I thought he was typing .. of course he wasnt.

Dead again because I try being nice or not interacting with people at all.

Now, it's not these stories alone, but A LOT that basically went all the same. Trying to be nice, get killed.

I realize that the PvP part of this game is important, but killing for the sake of killing sucks, that IS NOT banditry.

However, in the last two days there have been a ton of these, and I decided to be a douchebag myself now. I know, it isn't banditry (at least not to me, i think banditry should be raiding bases, maybe killing people because you were in danger of getting killed or even killing people for their loot), but I will kill anyone i see, regardless if fresh spawn, geared survivor, bandit or even hero.

You picked up that beans? They had my name on it! *bullet to the face*

Jealous of my Makarov because you didnt find anything yet? Well, have a clip to your head!

Your Alice pack looks so much better than my coyote, i won't let you have it any longer.

Why did you pick up that knife? I sure not gonna let you massacre those cute bunnies, get massacred yourself!

You just ran across that field?! You killed flowers! DIE!

You found morphine? Here, have a reason to use it!

You are playing on the same server as i do? Well, find some new gear first. Oh, and hope i don't see yu again, and again, and again...

I need a reason to kill you? lol no

PS: yes, im mad, butthurt, a 12yo cod kiddie, live in my moms basement and will never have a gf

I've also played a good survivor but as someone else stated in another thread: "A survivor is a bandit who doesn't know it yet." I'm also pretty tired of getting KOS'd and trying to help others and getting bullets in return.

What I like to do now is find clan based servers and attack their bases instead of sniping people on the coast. I like to actually be a "bandit" and fight for vehicles and tents full of military gear over a tin of beans I really don't need.

I learned my first day in Cherna that everyone's an asshole and to trust is to be dead without knowing it. I only kill if i see a decent gun and a decent backpack on someone. Bambis are not worth the ammo they swallow.

Sure it is a waste of ammo, but I have to assume that they'd do the same. I don't ask myself who that guy is, what he does or whatever. Bullet to the head.^^

If i have enough ammo, ill go kill the guy, because i know they would try to do it to me... But if their are zeds i have a chat with the guy and have a mutual agreement not to blow his head of so it wouldn't attract 1000's of zeds. What i want is a team mate bandit to play dayz with. pm me if interested. I'm good at the game and i just want someone to play it with.

Then don't call yourself a bandit and go sit with the other boring people in the Survivor HQ.

You eventually find a happy middle ground. I kill anyone with bandit skin on sight. Or hunt them. Anyone else I try to avoid detection by. Usually when people get surprised they don't ask questions, they just shoot. In towns I'm like that now. It's not personal, it's just business.

My DayZ experience has been a rollercoaster of sorts.

Started out as a lone wolf pure survivor, not attacking anyone, hiding when others would shoot. Got bored, started reaching out to others, got lucky with most I met, boom group time.

Group betrays me after a week of playing with them and talking in ts for my weapon, a m110 some scripter had spawned (hadn't even known that there WERE haxxors at this point).

Get pissed, start kos'ing like today's average bandit. Ascend to bambi as50 elektro sniper bandit. Quickly bored of that. Start counter sniping and killing Elektro/Cherno snipers with a TWS as50. Started being a "Mountain Dew Knight", sacrificing the blood of the innocent to the Dew Gods, yadda yadda.

After a while of that, I started getting bored and fell to chasing people around cherno with an axe while playing such hits as the Benny Hill theme and the Bee Gees "stayin' alive" through direct.

Took a break, started playing Takistan life instead.

After a month and a half of that, returned to Dayz with military level skill and an actual military-esq squad, ie with correct informational battle talk.

And now I go around legitly robbing people with my squad, making them drop their weapons and sending them off after we take their shit. Gods help you if we find that you have a can of mountain dew on you that you are not worthy enough to hold...
