Use DayZCommander, set it to filter out nametag servers, find a private hive with a small-medium amount of players and minimal ping, and you're set.

A really good ping is below 100. However, my internet sucks, so I normally have about 200-300. Still easily playable because of the way DayZ works.

chernarus is just big, namalsk is more pvp oriented, lingor is for hanging out at the beach.

and don't listen to people telling you to play on a private hive. custom maps are always on private hives,

but playing chernarus on a private hive is only for carebears and wannabee-bandits..

private hives have cheaters too and usually you have only one server where you can play on - when it goes down, your character goes down with it.

and usually admins are even more retarded then on public servers.

chernarus is nice, but the other maps are worth a look if you can live with the private hive concept.

I'm not sure where you're coming from on this, the main hive is hell. Hackers are everywhere, tons of duped and scripted high-end gear is in circulation, and all the action is in the main cities. Every time I log into a high pop main server I end up waiting for an hour or so in Stary or the NWA for someone to come along, to no effect. There is no challenge, as no serious squad plays on the main hive and you're more likely to find a camp full of duped gear than a winchester.
