People overreacting about Namalsk?

Recommended Posts

I played on this map for some hours yesterday and didn´t really notice anything great about this map?

I mean, it´s cool, but I don´t understand what people get so excited for. I hear people saying that you have to worry about temperature, I was laying on the ground for an hour yesterday testing this out and still walking out of it perfectly fine. Pretty strange, considering I had been laying / running in rain the majority of the time I played. To me, this map seems like a small version of everything else with a white-colored ground texture, a bit more consuming of food / drinks and massive PvP.

Am I missing something here?

I tried it out over the weekend and didn't like it. Spawned in next to some of those Lingor style barracks, there were weird noises, found an AKM, there were more weird noises, I got scared and went back to Chernaraus. ^_^

Nope, you missed nothing.

Oh wait, you missed the railgun that is the ultimate sniper rifle.

Other than that, no, you hit it nail on the head.

Oh a new sniper? That's what DayZ needs; more weapons that can kill people in one shot and the man on the opposite end of the gun doesn't even know he's going to die.

If anything, snipers need nerf'd.

I wouldn't call it 'overreacting'. If people like Namalsk they dont really need a rhyme or reason its all personal preference. If anything it could be said that the quality of the map is being overrated.

It's pretty much the same with every map that gets released though, isn't it? Everyone get's so excited about it and praise it like it was the holy grail but after a few days/weeks it dims down because it's not so new and exciting anymore.

I've played a few of the maps, seen the others on youtube. There really isn't anything special about them, except on Namalsk you actually get cold when you go too far up that one mountain on the map and they have these 'warm clothes', but it's really not like it's a whole new game and most people end up going back to chernarus at one point or another.

Basically it's just because it's new and unknown.

So, there´s no places or anything that I haven´t checked out? This just seems to be a normal map, just way smaller.

The grass is always greener on the other side. People fed up with Chenarus wanted a change, Namalsk provides such a change. Eventually, They will probably get fed up of Namalsk and long for the familiarity and simplicity of Chenarus.

I like Chernarus, not much there but it´s always something to do. Namalsk seems like a badly textured mounty map. Meh, who knows, maybe something is up.

Supposedly there's an underground area, which I never found.

In all the "new" maps I've played for DayZ the military loot is even more common. I don't like it.

I understand Namalsk is an awesome map to play its own campaign on, but for DayZ I just don't have the same urge to keep coming back to it as I have for Chernarus.

Fallujah, Lingor, Takistan, none of them seem to be able to hold my interest. There must be a reason, I just can't quite put my finger on it.

It's probably because I find constant PvP to be tedious. I need a bit more variety.

Its those weird noises that to me make it good! The sound of the high winds in your earphones making you think you heard a gunshot or the lack of easily being able to hear them.

Chernarus is good but after a while you learn the spawns too easily (TBH thats every map but Chern was first). Like if you want military grade weapons its the airfield or the military tents (forgot name of place haven't played the 'original' map for ages). In Namalsk its everywhere so its not always the same journey everytime you get killed. I died and spawned right next to 3 barracks and had a choice of an AKM or M16 or M107? (the cool sounding sniper rifle). But then i died after hours of travelling without food or water. Also because weapon spawns are everywhere players are travelling alot more around the map and not just sticking to the same old areas for PVP (Cherno, Electro, Stary etc). This causes more risk with the wilderness as in Cherarus i was relatively 'safe' by just staying around in the woods with my 2 water bottles and hunting gear. Now i need to watch out everywhere i go.

Give it more time and it will grow on you. Also strangely you'll find, or at least in my experience, more friendly players or at least the bandit will actually loot your corpse because he really needed some of your stuff and not just mindlessly killing you for kicks and giggles.

I've heard NVG is gone from it too making night time really scary! But i don't know this for sure yet.

Lastely Namalsk is the first and currently only map to make my character sick! Making those heatpacks and Antibiotics actually worth something! Meaning more micro managing for your inventory space (yay!).

Only map i have got bored on was actually Panthera even though i like the map i found all the places to look very similar and all the hills to be full of snipers waiting to ambush car owners.

I have yet to try other maps than Namalsk, Chernarus, and Lingor. I will take a look into all of the other maps at some point, no idea when on the other hand.

I love the new sounds; the children crying for help, the wind blowing, etc. They really add to the effect. As for the temp changes, you have to be in the snow. Go walk in the snow for 5-10 minutes and you'll immediately start shivering, making it much more difficult to aim. If you don't find warm clothing you'll even develop a cold. Heatpacks are a necessity.

There are more random military loot points, such as the large towers that generally spawn good stuff, but only a few barracks. This seems to lead to a bit less PvP because the military loot isn't as concentrated.

I think the big appeal of Namalsk is the cold temperature effects of the snow and varying terrain. Snow, woodlands, fields, huge bridges, etc. it just feels different than the rest of the maps. Add in a few other differences, such as the lack of food, and it makes for a very nice change of pace.

I've enjoyed most of the new maps except for Takistan, but I think Namalsk is my favorite outside of Chernarus.

EDIT: I should also add the person or group putting Namalsk together is actively updating it. They tweaked the temperature effects a bit more with .6 (released yesterday) and even added random zed spawns in the woods. It's worth checking out.

I was actually running around on a snowy mountain for about an hour yesterday for the sake of it and didn't get any cold or anything. Either something is bugged, or people just want to make it sound really dangerous.

No, it wasn't the wind or general environment. It was like freaky ghost children! Not cool. :C

I know they updated the temp system in .6 to fix a few glitches so maybe you were one of the lucky few who didn't have to deal with it. After catching a quick cold on my first visit to that mountain army base I never went with less than 3 heatpacks, but even those didn't do much good (another change in .6 is improved heatpack effect). I've probably put 15+ hours into Namalsk and I've gotten the shivers within 10 minutes of climbing a snowy mountain every time. It isn't a huge deal because the zeds didn't seem to notice my coughing beyond 10m or so and the shivering still isn't as bad as the shaking relieved by painkillers, but it is something new to deal with.

Here is the changelog. I like what he's doing with it.

I want a halloween map. Come one guys, lets make a huge dead forest, with such a thick fog that you can't see more than 30 meters infront of you, massive snow / cold problems, scarecrows and pumpkins that lights up places, this would be so cool.

Opinions are like ass holes. Everyone has one.

Its a great map if you are looking for a change. Unlike all the rest of the maps survival on this one is much harder and makes it so you have to change up your style. In cherno I can gear up with all tool belt supplies, Alice pack, canteen and food/drinks in less then half an hour and get an AK/AKM from one of the main cities or one of the three air fields. In the 20+ hours I have invested into Namalsk I have died more times to starvation and dehydration then I have to other players. I have never been able to complete my tool belt. Sure weapons are common, but good luck using that AKM you just found if you are dead from lack of food/water.

Also your temperature will only drop if you A. Go into the water for a prolonged period of time or B. go into one of the snowy areas. Which if you use the Dayzdb/map/namalsk you will clearly see which areas are snowy due to there White color on the map.

At the end of the day the loudest people are the minority. Go huff and puff all you want, the 1000's of people who do enjoy this map will remain silent (unlike myself) and continue playing the challenge that is Namalsk.

Also consider my 20+ hours of Namalsk a fraction of my time playing Dayz. Ive been playing religiously since May.

the best thing of the others map is changing the general environment, more military, less civilian, or viceversa, it's fun to adapt to the new map, the real need for a map or a compass. they are fun, but chernarus is the most balanced in my opinion
