left handed player character

I think a great implementation to days standalone would be left handedness. Obviously this isn't a big deal to allot of the other players but it does often ruin the immersion of the game, and I'm sure many other lefties would agree, many other games when the gun is in the wrong hands of my character. I mean no disrespect when I say that I am almost certain there is a higher fan base of left handed males then there is of females in the game. Yet there will almost certainly be both genders in the standalone. I find myself jerked from realism after a great shot at a bandit when I take my gun down and I'm holding it backwards. It would take more work than just mirroring the character though. As bolt action rifles require lefties to reach over the barrel to eject the casing. And many automatic rifles eject into a lefties face if shot from a normal position. But I would be more than happy with a mirrored player that is left handed then no option at all.

But, as i know, for many lefties, playing as right hand is much easier.

So, i am neutral to this suggestion.

If the player model could be mirrored to simulate a lefty, it would only be a very slight improvement to you (if any).

The guns auto-mirroring would piss me off though. For the sake of authenticity a hot bullet-casing in the eye should hurt and blur your vision.

Some rifles have case-deflectors (M16 for example) but the bolt-handle would still be on the wrong side if you were left-handed.

Pretty sure most special forces around the world learn to shoot Right-handed, so as not to complicate things.

Don't quote me on that, but look it up, I'm sure I read that somewhere.

I'm Right-handed, and I can shoot Left-handed (with a P90 BB gun :D), so it must be easy enough for Lefties to learn to shoot regular.

It would be cool to have a choice but you should have to live with the consequences that have been mentioned in this thread. But I guess that'd be too much work for something only a handful of people would be using.

I'm left handed but seeing as most FPS games have a right handed only option I have just become used to shooting right handed in FPS games. It feels very strange to shoot left handed in games for me (playing as Sheva on Resident Evil 5), even though I would shoot left handed in real life.

I think most other left handed people will probably think the same thing.

I'm an extreme leftie.

However I always used the mouse with my right hand and those left hand options in shooters always weirded me out.

In bootcamp a few sergeants tried to convince me to shoot with right hand/right eye to avoid getting hit in the face by ejcted casings. I didn't get that, you're suppose to have your face behind the sights anyways and not infront of the ejector. Fortunately when we arrived at the live ranges our real shooting instructor told us to completely ignore the bad advice. They also wanted me to practice throwing dummy hand grenades right handed, because of the safety mechanism. After throwing a few dummies with my right hand, I was terrified of the thought of throwing live grenades with my weak hand. Same instructor told us to ignore the bad advise again and probably saved all our lives. :)

I really hate those moronic shooters, where they mirror the weapons, so the ejecting mechanism is on the left side, so everyone can see their awesome animation.

My point wasn't to make the controls left handed. I play right handed with the regular mouse position. But controls are intuitive to me now and when I think turn left I don't think move the mouse left with my right hand. I just think turn left. The problem I have. Especaily when looking around building. Preforming vault and looking around without aiming down the sights is that I am completely ass backwards. I just think that adding this feature would pander to a larger fan base than rocket is aware of. I mean he's all about realism. And this is more important than a skin or gender setting because if your in first person you can't tell if your wearing sunglasses or a hat or to a certain extent whether your female or black. But its evident that your right handed.

I remember changing my handedness to left in CS:S years ago. It was pretty bad and I couldn't shoot for shit, so I probably wouldn't be using it.

one more thing, it should be added, but the bigger problem is that as we read from left to right, up to down the last piece that we acquire is the weapon, if we change the gun to the left, it can make you acquire first the image of the gun than afterwards the object you are aiming too in normal arma 2 you first acquire the target than the gun, it could be confusingm not a gameplay style that i would put, but something that can be easily modified and put.
