In the 'how well geared are you?' thread, some survivors have said they acquired nv goggles, "gps's" and toolboxes within a couple of days.

At 0.11% spawn rate, couldn't you travel to north west airfield over 900 times and still not find one of those first two items?

Devs said less than 3 percent of players have nv goggles currently, yet so many people claim to have them and many say they should be more rare, why dont I find them?

I'm not calling cheats or lies obviously, I just want mine.

How did u get yours, when, where?

Found 3 GPS's in 3 days.

If you play MMO's you'de realise 0.11% isn't too low, also it's a 0.11% x 18 if you consider all the loot spots they can spawn in. 12 from each barracks and 6 from the Hangers?

0.11% in 18 loot piles is still only 1.96% chance of finding them.

Some of it is luck but some of the commonality of these supposedly rare items comes from some rather unscrupulous people who happen to know how to turn 1 pair into 16 or 32 with a few "accidental" server restarts.

I have found NVG's multiple times (as loot, not on player's corpses).

Its all about where you look.

I found my first gps the other day. NVGs I have not found yet.

Were the percentages for the spawn chances ever actually confirmed by the devs?

Yes. http://picacid.com/arma2/loot_en.html is using the official game's data. rocket has discussed this page and verified its contents. Although for some reason it's still pulling from 1.6.0.1 apparently?

A common mistake made by many people, 0.11 in 18 loot piles is not 1.96 it's 0.11% with 18 loot spots.

That will give a statistical drop rate lower than a 1.92% over let's say 200 times visited will.

My toolbox I found legit a while ago and have been hoarding it ever since (it's mine!), my GPS was acquired after a friendly fire incident, as reparations for killing me, haven't lost it since and my NVG's were taken off a fellow squad member who just didn't care about getting them back. As far as finding them all in a couple of hours, it all comes down to RNG. Some people can open up the barracks door and find a M107, NVGs and a GPS all at once, others can find nothing over 50 loot spawns. It comes down to randomness.

Thanks for the info.

@Zed Yeah

@CrossShade Do they Definitely spawn in the hangers?

@Griff I only know of them being at two barracks in North West Airfield and apparently helo crash sites, one guy said he found his in a barn though? I've been alive 7 days now and for 3 my mission has been nv googles. Still no luck. Any chance of you sharing some of the other spots?

@HorribleSniper Definitely

So far I've only had 2 NVGs and 1 GPS, all of them from player corpses

Not a single trip to the NWAF yielded one of these items, and I did so many I've lost count

Yeah I have played for weeks and found nvg's one time in a deer stand. I was shocked.

Deerstands? Are you sure?=

The loot sheet lists them as basic military structures, which aren't supposed to spawn NVGs at all

Not sure if NVG's do but GPS's definitely spawn in hangers, it's where I found my first GPS.

Whenever dealing with percentile loot, never expect them to spawn over x amount of visits, you could theoretically loot areas where they spawn 90000000 times and never find one, then one day, find 20 consecutively.

Well, I found GPS (Lost it) in a deer stand on my second day.

But, I never find NVG before.

...yet so many people claim to have them...

I can claim to have no hands.

That doesn't necessarily mean it's the truth.

I'd just like to pick up more than one watch. So, upon meeting another survivor, I can attempt to sell them watches.

@CrossShade I hear that. I think each loot pile has under 50 percent a chance of spawning in itself so that damages a players chances even further in this equation but I agree with what your saying its like buying one ticket and winning the lottery.

@ThatGuyWithNoHands For sure.

@Hawk "The loot sheet lists them as basic military structures, which aren't supposed to spawn NVGs at all" ..This is what I thought

In elektro a Helicopter crashed and it killed some guy so I ran over, there was about 20 Zombies but then they randomly dissapeared, I started to loot the body and it was maxed out like he had been playing 6 Days and was with a massive Clan. The wierd thing was that the heli put a light on me but then left me like it knew I Was a noob and didn't have anything.

Been playing for weeks, found my first GPS today, in a hangar NW airfield. Found NVGs once before in the E barracks of NW airfield, other times got them off dead players. I've found toolboxes maybe three or four times.

Umm, no. Not a mistake. I know how statistics work. 18 separate independent events with 0.11% chance each.

0.11% chance in a single loot pile, or a 99.89% chance of NOT finding one in a loot pile: (1 - 0.0011) = 0.9989 = 99.89%.

The chances of not finding them 18 consecutive times is (0.9989)^18 or 0.9804 or 98.04%.

Therefore, you have a 1.96% chance of finding them in 18 loot piles. Day one stats stuff here.

200 loot piles would yield a "not find" chance of (0.9989)^200 or 0.8024 or 80.24%, so you have a 19.76% chance of at least one pair after 200 piles.

Here's a helpful video if you're lost:

Umm, no. Not a mistake. I know how statistics work. They are independent probabilities. 18 separate 0.11% chances. Not a single loot pile.

0.11% chance in a single loot pile, or a 99.89% chance of NOT finding one in a loot pile.

The chance of not finding them 10 18 consecutive times is (99.89%)^18 or 98.04% chance. So you have a 1.96% chance of finding them in 18 loot piles.

No, you do not, you don't divide or multiple the chance, it's the same as poker here, you don't multiply chances, it's the same individual chance over a period of different piles. 0.11% over 18 not 0.11 * 18 = 1.92%.

The statistics would say that people finding Nvg's at a 1.92% would find them more often A LOT more than 0.11 over 18.

You are wrong, many people have tried what you said, even trying to apply different maths, always to be proven wrong.

By your logic I have a 100% chance if looting enough to encounter NVG's/GPS, this isn't the case.

*EDIT*

On an MMO I used to play their was an item that dropped at 0.50%, by saying killing these separately I had a 0.50% reduction from NOT finding one, so, after killing 200 I would have theoretically under your logic made myself have a 99.50% - 99.50% chance of NOT finding said item, therefore having a 100% of finding it, clearly that is not the case as it's a 0.50% chance over x amount of tries. Always 0.50 to find, 99.5 to not. To add to this, I had sometimes found none of x item after killing over 1000 of said mob.

Everyone seems to forget the chance of coming in between 2 respawn "cycles" of the server clean up routine

Someone has looted the barracks already, he might even have found some glorious NVGs, and you're just in time to not let the loot despawn and respawn but to take what he left behind because of lack of interest/inventory space

That's also a big fat minus to the 0.11% chance
