pliskin9201 0 Posted October 29, 2012 What server should I start out on? I tried a few people said they liked but so far the ones I've tried start you out with bandages and a few survival things. Without a weapon I just end up dying within 4-5 minutes to a random running zombie who I can't get away from or kill. Or worse I make it into the city and then zombies come in through all doors and I can't even run away. So far, it's made a really frustrating first experience. From the key-bindings being odd to the inability to have or find a weapon without running into zombies...which kill you without a weapon is annoying to say the least. Any help or advice? OrLoK 16182 Posted October 29, 2012 (edited) hello thereFirstly, for all your keybinding, go into vanilla ArmaCO. Easier to do there. :)Secondly, sound plays a major part in zombie evasion. Crouch and walk when too close to em, go prone etc. Running makes you a target. It *is* hard at first, but suddenly everything "clicks" into place and you'll be fully equipped in no time.Practice, practice, practice!rgdsLoKEDIT: Try Low player count servers at first. Less danger and less kiddie scripters. Edited October 29, 2012 by orlok
pliskin9201 0 Posted October 29, 2012 Thanks, now I'm running into a new issue. I died and I'm trying to join new servers but every time I try...it just gets to a screen that says Loading. Wait for 10 mins and nothing happens? Is it because it's a private server that I can't load? Or is it something with my game/computer?
OrLoK 16182 Posted October 29, 2012 Hello thereI have heard of this issue, but have not encountered it. Use the Search function to seek answers, they *are* here.rgdsLoK
Buckwheat 1 Posted October 29, 2012 I used to run into the same problem as you, and as orlok said, everything will fall into place, and you will be having a blast. This technique is what I used when I first started playing, and is what I still use now. First your going to want to spawn by Cherno. It will tell you were you are when you spawn. Use www.dayzmap.info to find Cherno from your loction and to see what building you can loot. Head strait too the Apartments on the north side, these have a good chance to get a gun, pack, food, ammo, ect. Once your all suited up, look at your map and start following it to Stary Sober. There are a few towns on the way, just try to stay to the sides of them, unless want to risk looting them. Sprint in woods, always crouch or crawl in towns/ near zombies. If zombies are on your tail try quickly disconnecting. This does take away from the game, but for a beginner like you, it will help you stay alive. But once you find Stary, stay on the outside and go to the north side of town. You will find some military tents, carefully loot these, looking for zombies and other players. Once you have all your military gear, loot the grocery store, as it always have an abundant supply of food and soda. Now your basically set. Explore the map, be cautious of the NW Airfield, and you should have a great experience. But make sure to not rush. Take your time, be careful, and you will survive. Buddy up with a friend if you can, and if your still confused, there are some great video tutorials.Buckwheat
HMS 115 Posted October 29, 2012 Thanks, now I'm running into a new issue. I died and I'm trying to join new servers but every time I try...it just gets to a screen that says Loading. Wait for 10 mins and nothing happens? Is it because it's a private server that I can't load? Or is it something with my game/computer?Hi, Pliskin, Can you re-join the same server as before? (the one you died on?)Need way more details to help you, unfortunately.Getting this mod to work is an adventure in itself. If you are using DayZ Commander, check your history. Also, check the versions / upgrades and see if anything is out of date.If you are not using DayZ Commander, unplug your computer and sit in the corner, facing the wall IN SHAME.LOLAnd you aren't doing anything wrong. You are playing exactly correctly. Your goal is not to kill zombies at first - and really isn't to find a gun either. Your goal is to live, plain and simple. And you do that by avoiding zombies, and learning to evade them.It sucks that they can just walk through doors and fences to get at you. (That does not even scratch the surface of "suck" - you will see.,,) In the sprirt of fairness, however, I will tell you that if you are being chased by Zombies, they will slow down upon entering any building. So find one with two exits and live to fight another day.Don't forget the stickied "index of helpful threads" at the top level of this forum. That's 90% of what you need.
HMS 115 Posted October 29, 2012 What buckwheat said is also very good - however I do not recommend his suggestion of disconnecting. Not for the noble reason you might think, but because you seem to be having a hard time connecting to servers. You find one that works, maybe you should stick with it. If you die 30 times, then that's another iceberg tip you are scratching but at least you gain experience without having to wait an hour to get back on another server.
Solitude 42 Posted October 29, 2012 Hey, make sure you firstly run both ArmA II and ArmA II Operation Arrowhead, and then both as combined operations. Also just a tip, the DayZ server rely on hives - There is one public hive and many, many private hives. On one hive you may have one set of items, but on another you may have none. Most servers with a country name then a number will be public hive, and will share data. For example AU #500 and US #691 have the same hive. basically you can choose to play on any public hive server, or a private hive, it's completely up to you. Have fun! :)

Right now, I die, and get the You are Dead screen and then it just sits there with nothing else happening. If I click respawn..it keeps repeating that I have died in chat. This is confusing most of the time I have to find a new server or disconnect and then reconnect to the server to respawn. I also seem to always spawn way far away from the main cities which are easier to loot I guess. I finally found a weapon recently but sadly died because I couldn't outrun zombies or stop them from following me. I ran nearly 10km and they were still following me. I ran to the point where my guy wouldn't run anymore and then I couldn't figure out how to stop him from walking.
Solitude 42 Posted October 29, 2012 So to respawn quickly, press the escape key, then abort (only from the you are dead screen') and if you want to respawn as quickly as possible, press enter 3 times. This will skip through the menus, and you should be playing again in under 1 minute, of course varying as of server ping. Also, if you break your leg, you may press escape and choose the 'respawn' button, to immediately respawn.

Longer and longer alive. Just frustrating at times when I can't seem to find a single weapon XD
Mos1ey 6301 Posted October 29, 2012 Having a weapon isn't actually THAT important mate. You want to be running away from zombies instead of killing them most of the time, shooting them will just attract more. Your best bet is drawing them in to a building and then leaving through the back door. Failing that run in to a bush or pine tree and they'll lose interest pretty quickly. It is advisable to carry a weapon in case you run in to players though, you'll find military weapons in Cherno or Elektro firehouses or Balota airstrip. I wouldn't head to Stary just yet.
