Progressive controls

Recommended Posts

Hi, It would be nice being able to have progressive controls like:

Vehicles: - Increase / Decrease speed. (gradual without the need of a controller)

- Increase / Decrease altitude (slowly or fast)

- Helicopter nose up / down (gradual)

- etc

Character: - Increase / Decrease speed (you would be able to increase / decrease running/walking speed in a gradual way)

- Increase / Decrease height (you would be able to be in any position between stand and crouch position)

- Increase / Decrease lean (gradual leaning)

- Increase / Decrease head height while in prone for taking a look over the grass.

This could be done mapping new keys for gradual controls or for example if you press W for walking, then you can press increase or decrease keys for increase or decrease speed, if you press "C" for crouching then you can press increase or decrease for crouch a little less for being able to shoot from a window or whatever; if you press "Q" for leaning then you can press increase or decrease keys for gradual leaning.

Would be great if the mouse scroll could be used in this way. Maybe not in this game, but it is an interesting mechanic. Walk forward and scroll to gradually change moving speed. :)

Well the helicopter nose up/down can be graduated if you control it's movement with the mouse

ArmA 2 does support analog throttle IIRC, its just implemented very poorly.

Vehicles: Use Joystick or gamepad and switch to analogue throttle for progressive collective up/down and thrust. Trying to fly a helo or plane with keyboard/mouse isn't really precise in the long run. I've seen a lot of players flip their helos and lose control because they have pressed certain buttons too long and when using auto hover it looks awkward and crude.

Character: Would be great but it would make it a lot more complicated, but beeing able to use more than just stand, crouch and prone would be ok, wouldn't it?

I agree but you still need a constant input from the mouse for keeping your helicopter nose down/up.
