DayZ: Namalsk

Recommended Posts

I went on last night for a couple of hours and i really enjoyed the play, people were friendly, the 2 i met in the old hospital definatly were, helped me get some blood and we looked around together. good times :) but.. after playing i have some suggestions that i think would really help make the game better for us all, some are general dayz improvement suggestions but i think each one can be done in this mod/map and it would be a great tester i suppose.

ok. here are a couple i thought of last night.....

Guns Vs. Ammo

- I played last night for about 2 hours and in that time found 3 x akm's, 1x ak47, 1x lee enfield, 2x fal, 1x revolver, 4x makarovs, 1x m14 aim and all of them had plenty of ammo, 2/3 clips of each. personally i think that is a little too much firepower for the time played.

Suggestion

- Leave the number of guns alone, plenty of guns are fine but reduce the ammo count, make it so guns spawn with no ammo or 1 clip.

Reasoning

- Having plenty of ammo available means that you can use it up without much worry of running out there is always going to be some round the corner, just like in real life you have a limited number of bullets and if the dayz situation became a reality bullets would become more and more rare. If you had a limited ammo count it would suggest to players that just firing willy nilly is not the best thing to do, what it would also help do is limit the amount of KOS situations many of us are facing. I believe that it will really make you think twice about shooting an unnecessary target, who is going to shoot a new spawn with nothing if its going to cost you the only clip you have left? some people would still go for the KOS mentality for sure but i believe that it would really help in reducing that mentality.

Backpacks

- This is another thought i had yesterday when i found some a coyote pack and found a couple guns.

Suggestion

- Make backpacks that contain 10 slots or more ultra ultra rare

Reasoning

- Having smaller backpacks would have a number of different effects to the way the game is played, firstly you cant carry everything you need and be a 1 man army, no longer can you stash away 2 guns in the coyote pack and have a gun for each occasion you come across. This will put a stronger push on the teamwork element and working together to carry a larger number of items. Choosing to keep the akm in your hand or the pickup the m24 on the floor is actually going to be a decision your going to have to think about, it would introduce roles withing teams as well as stopping players hording guns in which they will die having never been used.. also leaves something for the rest of us :)

Animals

- I thought of this idea when i came across a fat pig just sat in the forest waiting to be shot.

Suggestion

- Make smaller animals the majority on the map and the larger animals very rare

Reasoning

- How easy is it in reality to find a cow, shoot it, grab more meat than a 3rd world country could eat and scoot off never to need anything for days.. answer? pretty easy. If rabbits for example were the dominant animal on the map it would introduce a need to actually 'hunt' and by hunt i don't mean just shooting that pig which cant run away at more than 1/2 mph because its eaten too many truffles what i mean is you would have to be quiet and stealthy to get that rabbit kill because otherwise it will run off and you loose your food. It would also have a positive effect on teamwork, go out with your pals hunting a couple rabbits just so you have enough food for the day.. sound good? does to me..

Zombies

- This is something i thought of when i stumbled across a heli crash, i didnt know it was one at first so really scared me to think that zombies spawned in the middle of some trees with nothing around!

Suggestion

- Put loot (tin cans, JD bottles, whatever) in and amongst trees/forests so zombies can spawn.

Reasoning

- You are never safe! It makes it so you cant just run into forests knowing that the only threat is a player wondering past. I do feel that some of the immersion and atmosphere is lost sometimes when i know i can just run through the trees knowing that i will never ever run into a zombie.

These are all ideas i really believe will help move dayz forward, normally im not one to put suggestions forward but i see an opportunity here to actually (if i've presented them well enough) get the ideas working within this mod fairly quickly.

Of cause these are open to debate as im sure some will disagree and agree but as a collective maybe some good will come of the ideas.

Well, i Downloaded namalsk today, And its pretty good, But i found couple of weird items, Server was just restarted, and i was only one in there, I got to Object All, and i found Warm Clothes in there, that didin't work, And second weird thing was Broken NV? found them in a tower, they had exacly same model as a Binoculars, but they didint work and had a red NO sign on them, Does anyone have idea what do i do with them? can i fix them or?

ChrisR

I saw a few idea's that might be viable.

But some were just plain stupid, in and arround itself.

Loot is fine, and because you were lucky and found weapon's everywhere, doesn't mean everyone else are.

It's based on luck.

I played for nearly 2hours yesterday.

I barely managed to survive due to the amount of zombies, and supplies I managed to scavenge.

And I went into every single building in the major city.

Loot is random and genereci for a reason. No need to alter it, because YOU were lucky with it.

Zombie spawns are fine, and there are a lot of open plains where zombies can follow you for ages.

@Dunlopper

You will find Broken NVG's, and Broken GPS's

And there's nothing wrong, or weird about it.

It's item's from Namalsk, not everything is supposed to be working.

So no, you can't fix them, and you are better of throwing them away.

Any Aussies got a good Namalsk server to play on? All the ones I try to join I tend to have an unusually high ping, and get kicked within minutes. Oh the problems of living on the biggest island in the world, some things will never change.

On another note, does the warm clothing affect any temperature permanently or does it simply slow down temperature change? Can broken GPS and NVG's be fixed in any way? or do they work within their own limits? Thanks in advance to any replies, I appreciate helpful answers.

True story

I love you.

My ns_dayz pbo is not accepted.

This is my start up line using ArmAII Launcher...

"-mod=C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2;Expansion;ca;Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion;@dayz;@nc" -nosplash -world=empty

Beta is same as server.

I'll try again later.

EDIT : seeing more servers running.

-mod=;@dayz;@nc C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2;Expansion;ca;Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -nosplash

-world=empty -nopause -nofilepatching

That's what my launch option's look like, and mine works like a charm :)

I believe that was a direct copy of my launch option's, if not, then i'll copy them when I get home.

This Topic is for discussing Namalsk Island Only, not server preferences Private or Public.

Anything non related will be cleaned.

@ U.B.C.S. Zantiago I have sorted the problem, thanks.

Downloaded from D.C. Installed no worries.

While playing in came across a crash site where I found an Fal. No ammo so used it to deter any other players. When I found a crowbar I picked it up but it still showed my Fal, when swinging at zombies it was the rifle swinging and not a crowbar, the nv scope still worked on the crowbar. Couldn't find anything except empty cans and flares. The PVP on this map was mental, any means to kill and everyone was doing it. Not impressed on first play, but I will give it a few more shots!

Even killed a cow and put the raw meat in my backpack thinking surely i'll find some matches soon.

* first part of response *

Zombies walk off in the same direction leaving the same point (not very random and easy to deal with)

way to much military loot i think if you take out the deerstands or put residential in them

i like the fact that food is supposed to be hard but i have found quite the supply of food and drink, i dont know if i was lucky or not

military weapons should be hard as fuck to find every user made map has the same problem TOO MUCH MILITARY WEAPONS if you fix this this map can easily surpass all the other user made maps maybe not hard as fuck to find but hard

i love the fact that you start off cold

Zombies.. well, I have problems with them, I guess, I will need to take a look on their fsm (I guess) for their roaming, because Namalsk do have a lot more denser spots than Chernarus for example, they just select some place and walk away, sometimes, you can see them relatively far from "their" object.

Well, you were probably lucky, but there will be probably mass move of Chernarus like objects (still default dayz loot tables) to my Namalsk loot tables, so expect that this you definitely notice!

I think due to overall setting of Namalsk, it is not like Chernarus, Namalsk does have a lot of military installations from the Cold War, so you can expect you will find weapons. Anyway, I have plans to mess with the loot a bit. I will give more details later.

I love the cold factor too and I actually have more plans with it :)

I am going to post this in troubleshooting as well but since this topic is related I thought I would ask here as well. I am getting this error;

You cannot play/edit this mission;it is dependant on content that has been deleted.namalsk, ns_dayz, ns modules

Also when I click on namalsk servers the required version turns red. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

You haven't started your arma II: combined operations with @NC folder, please check this post (http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/101981-dayz-namalsk/page__st__60#entry960420) for more info about it.

I cannot launch my namals server...downloaded ESI and trying to run a fresh namals server bat ( which 1 i downloaded here: http://www.nightstal...nu=en_dn_server ) and it says every time:

"server_setup\xampp\mysql\bin\mysqld.exe" couldn't find. Please be sure, the name is correct and repeat the last step

( sry i translate it into english ) :o

I think, I had it too, but somehow it was not important I think? Have you tried to reinstall it? (I mean, you have to install Also have you checked the overall file structure (if this exe is there, or if there is anything else, etc.)?

I like it a lot... i was getting errors last night, but must have been server side. Its working for me now(i was launching through spirited machines arma 2 launcher last night dayz commander this mornin... so maybe not?)

I love the sound and look o the place... reminds me o freezing my arse off in a shell scrap in waiouru here in NZ in my younger days. I like the scarcity o food(sorta bottle necks supply a bit).. i did find a goat... limited resources o course means greater competition for the said resources... all good by me. I think the relative abundance o military is consistent with the environment personally. Im loving it, thanks Sumrak, awesome work mate.

Yeah, there were some problems with BE, it has been logging some parts of newly added code from dayz: namalsk, filters were modified and it should be a bit better.

Thanks! :D Yeah, as I said, Namalsk does have a lot of military installations, it is not really like Chernarus, we will see about loot, IF I manage to move the chernarus buildings under my loot tables, it should be even more interesting :P

I have searched for three hours now. I can't find a download link. I have searched and read and not found anything for THREE HOURS NOW. Please, somebody, SEND ME A DIRECT DOWNLOAD LINK. THIS IS REDICULOUS THAT IT'S THIS HARD TO FIND A DOWNLOAD.

http://www.nightstalkers.cz/en_index_dn.php?menu=en_dn_popis -> For players (you..) -> bold font Download with the actual download link + (under this) Needs: Namalsk Crisis .. another link to -> http://www.nightstalkers.cz/en_index_nc.php?menu=en_nc_down -> read the text under Arma II Combined Operations users (again bold font).. you have to download Namalsk Crisis Update 2 full package.. okay -> click on the newest entry on this page called Namalsk Crisis, Update 2 , find on the bottom side download links (again bold font) -> choose from the available download links

+ of course, installation steps are mentioned everywhere.

* part 2 *

look what we found :D

There are 4 on Namalsk, be sure you find them all! :) + other interesting things are hidden :P

Very nice map and environment. The cold really adds up to the gameplay, giving you a new challenge: now camping with a sniper rifle from the top of a mountain isn't that easy, in example last night a guy was camping out there, after a while he has been forced to run up a fire to raise his temperature (prolly he finished the heat packs) .. and bang, he got smashed in like 2 minutes, giving out his position.

Eerything good so far... after Panthera, another "good" map on the scene. There's only one thing wrong: the cheaters. This is not map related, but they are really ruining everything here.. car spawned, teleporting, and all this shit totally ruins the immersion and after a while you just quit. This game could be so cool... but unfortunately there's no solution.

Thanks, yeah, exactly what I wanted

Yeah, scripts kiddies, met some too :|

Warm clothes are working if the server does have a correct mission and correct server pbo files.

Broken things are for now just broken :P

Any Aussies got a good Namalsk server to play on? All the ones I try to join I tend to have an unusually high ping, and get kicked within minutes. Oh the problems of living on the biggest island in the world, some things will never change.

Wearing warm clothing gives you a very nice + factor on the temperature, for the wearing time, it is not 100% and you may get your temperature lowered in more unique situations, but overall you are pretty safe in it. Broken GPS and NGVs (plus broken radios) cannot be repaired (at least, not yeat).

Downloaded from D.C. Installed no worries.

Was it crash site of UH or Mi-8? Because if UH, it shouldn't happen on Namalsk server.. but can be possible with the different server setup.

Crowbar is somehow buggy (dayz bug afaik)..

I was in some situations and find out that players aren't really much friendly.. but it does not surprises me really :D Thats just our DayZ, maybe I need to give them more reasons to consider shooting someone.. we will see

I think i like this map. I have made two runs now in about 4 hours, KoS both times, so the PvP is mental as stated before. But I will probably kill on sight too, cause they might have some :beans: ...I was so thirsty, cold and and I almost starved to death. This map is hardcore, frustrating and very fun to play .

nvm

There are also some things starting to appear in my bug & feature & fix list. One of the things we've been talking for example is adding random supply drop (something like helicrashes), but with the lower amount of medical supplies, (..another way to get antibiotics), because they are currently on Namalsk pretty rare.. well, they are rare in the whole DayZ, but just they weren't really needed.

Also, I am trying to setup a public git for DayZ: Namalsk, so everyone would see the changes and also it will be another way to download needed mod files for setting up server using bliss server pack. I will post more info once this is running.

Any private hive server with whitelisting?

And could someone help me launch the mod with the beta patch? (I can't see the "beta" mod in game, when adjusting the launched mods)

Create link on ArmA 2\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe

change in properties:

Target: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" -beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -nosplash -mod=@dayz;@NC

Start in: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2"

or for steam version

create link on \arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe

change in properties:

Target: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" "-beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion" "-mod=C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2;Expansion;ca;@dayz;@NC" -nosplash

Start in: "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead"

Note: Paths may differ!

And about whitelisted private servers, don't know, try to search here on forums :)

My thoughts on the "too much military loot" bit I've seen people bring up.

One of the biggest reasons I quit playing chernarus is because of the complete lack of loot there. There are pretty much only about 4 or 5 places you can really go to get decent loot, and people who have spent a lot of time on the server are naturally going to have a nice stockpile. Not having the cash to have my own server, naturally I cannot do that.

What I think makes maps like Lingor and Panthera thrive, are not only the different locations, but the increased loot factor. Knowing that I can walk into most cities and be equally matched (and not end up walking in unarmed after walking the map for 4+ hours) against some sniper or bandit makes the game way more engaging. Sure, in a zombie apocalypse you are going to be hard pressed for guns, ammo and food. But in a zombie apocalypse, we'd all start on a similar page, rather than me walking into the apocalypse months after some other guy. What I'm getting at is, creating a more even playing field in an unforgiving game like this just makes it more fun, and naturally, gameplay should trump realism any day.

Thanks for the awesome work! Can't wait to spend some more time on the map!

After 2 days.. i can say. Beside my consideration about the temperature (it really adds something to the gameplay), i've figured that it is a way too extreme how it works: i've applyed infinite heat packs, they doesn't works (tried on different servers), so i've managed to recover the temp only using the fire.. but as soon you put it off, the temp goes low too fast. I believe that raise the lower temp a little would help the gameplay.

The food is very scarce... that isn't a bad thing tho, but then we need a more common cooking set (knife, hatchet, matches) to hunt the animals or the only way to hve food remains to kill anyone on side hoping he's carrying some.

And.. cheaters again.. sorry to point the obvious, but i never seen a concentration of cheaters like i'm noticing in this map.. it seems that any script kid migrated here for whatever reason (isn't even the best map for pvp).

I love this map so much. SO MANY friendly players I hardly see bandits and have been playing on 30+ player servers/

Where are the vehicle spawns, and what vehicles can we expect? One server admin even just said he didnt think vehicles spawned on the map :S

Sumrak , is the low temperature achieved by adding a layer of invisible water into the map ? So the code thinks that the player is constantly in the water. Kind of like when you get in a boat on Chernarus ocean you will lose temp even though your not actually touching the water.

Reason I ask -

( Bug Report )

- When I log off inland and then log back in again I will be swimming for a couple of seconds actually in the land mass before my character finally stands up on top of the land.

- I logged back in earlier inside a building. All my footsteps while moving around inside the building had the splish splash splosh sound effect until I went outside and the footstep sounds returned to normal.

- After changing into a ghille suit while inside a building on the ground floor I was then swimming in the building. Char would not stand up and I had to swim outside and travel about 50m away from the building before my char stood up back ontop of the land.

Oh man, i tried this map today and all i can say is AMAZING!!! .... the environmental sounds are EPIC, this map has to make it into the StandAlone, right now, there's no other map i want to play :)

Really good job man, thank you for the effort you put into making this and also thank you for listening to user requests (White camo on reddit) ... GREAT STUFF !

You should all play the SP campaign if you haven't already ! It's bloody scary !!

Now that DayZCommander has added it, does anyone know what folder names DZC uses for the Mod ? Because i'm not downloading it AGAIN using DZC just because I don't know the folder names.

I tried creating an @DAYZNAMALSK and then an @DAYZ_NAMALSK folder (with just the 2 DayZ files inside) and DZC doesn't recognize it.

Sumrak, I must say this.

* I am very impressed on how the map was made.

* The "Dayz Team" should really add you to their group.

My personal view of the map.

Do not add more residential areas, it overall creates a challenge of which many players are trying to overcome.

* It forces the players to go to "Vorkuta", of which to be honest is probably scarier than anything else in the game, "EVERYONE" wants a better backpack. Matches are now more rare/valuable than high powered weapons.

* Chernarus was "very easy" in terms of beating hunger and thirst, this map brings Dayz into a whole new level of "Survival Tactics".

* The overall creation of the map is quite well done.

Keep the cans of food to be "rare"

* Force the player to hunt "game" to survive.

Heat-packs and campfires finally have a use.

* At times I'd give up ammo and medical supplies just to have an extra heat-pack going up the mountains.

- I do wish they did last a little longer, they seem a bit short.

My favorite part of the game is the underground bunker at "Object All"

* Please make more bunkers and make it creepy, it creates an atmosphere of high tension.

Some suggestions in regards to the bunkers, if you don't mind.

* Please make it pitch dark, or at-least darker underground, I'd actually drop my "AK or M16 rifles" for a Remington shotgun with the light to explore the bunker. Sadly there is no reason since there is allot of light.

- It's strange that the underground bunker has so much light where there should be none, maybe make it pitch dark or have some emergency lights on?

* I've got another idea in regards to adding light into the bunker, maybe an underground generator, where player would use "Jerry cans" to fuel the power to the bunker.

* Could we have some zombies in the bunker, a single zombie was once able to follow us, but that was it.

Btw, I saw the "secret weapon" in the bunker, sadly I had no ammo.

* Looking forward to test it, If I ever find it again. B)

Vid of what an epic bunker experiance would seem to me.

* It even has zombies!
