Torothin 2 Posted June 15, 2012 Hello,So several people and myself have been trying this game. We came from Eve-Online. We set up camp, have vehicles, established ourselves, and so on. From what I have seen this game is all about survival of the fittest and does not promote cooperation if you are a lone-wolf. However, if you play with a group of people then it does...Last night we were doing a raid and all of a sudden see head lights and 3 cars come down the road. Was a very intense moment but they just missed seeing us. We take the shoot first ask questions later approach. It is mainly due to not wanting to be gunned down first and lose my hard earned gear. Especially the NV with the way the new patch is..Everyone takes that approach aside from the noobs. Have you guys experienced players help one another or is it that once you and them get established and geared up it really is survival of the fittest.Maybe we are biased. We come from Eve-Online which is a brutal PvP game. So we excel in these kind of games because we're used to it from a PvP/survivability point of view. What about you? What's your approach to this game once you get established? This is a truly incredible game.
korten 2 Posted June 15, 2012 Of course it promotes co-operation. you're co-operating with your Eve mates to survive, are you not?
Macenzie 79 Posted June 15, 2012 Co-operate with your gaming friends. No one else.Teaming up with strangers is a fools game.

Torothin 2 Posted June 15, 2012 I'm not sure about that. Everyone I have encountered so far as tried to light me up.
Castle (DayZ) 23 Posted June 15, 2012 There are many people that are friendly. You not being able to find them is how they stay alive.Unfortunately because zombies aren't a threat there's no real reason to group up with strangers.
MrBloodworth 1 Posted June 15, 2012 It lacks any sort of objectives that would require group play. But on smaller levels, yes, in someways it does. Strength in numbers.
worst2first 71 Posted June 15, 2012 Other than blood bags, there is nothing in Day Z that requires player cooperation. I believe Rocket plans on adding additional game content to expand the opportunities for cooperation but it may be a while before we see any of it.
Virfortis 111 Posted June 15, 2012 DayZ will be designed to cater to group play, rocket has clearly stated this multiple times.Unfortunately, the general mainstream community finds cooperating as a "for carebears" thing, so it will be interesting to see what happens when he implements some grouping mechanics. Rogo Ignoscant 8 Posted June 15, 2012 I beg to differ. This game FORCES you to be cooperative. A solo gunner on a mission is going to have a much harder time carrying the items he needs to survive. A 'lone wolf' type has to make the decision usually between a long ranged sniper rifle, a medium ranged assault rifle and a short ranged quick to act weapon.Lone Wolf has a much greater chance of loosing everything. Repairing vehicles is a great example of this, as a tire takes up 5 slots even putting together something like an ATV can be an incredible mission.Food, water and supplies force everyone to move constantly. Even if you stockpile your tents there are going to be people raiding them and you never know who's watching you. A lone wolf does not share this luxury. With the inability to have people at camp at any given time traveling across the map forces them to move into larger cities. More so with inadequate weaponry, and a lot more to loose. The 'use it loose it' mentality is what most 'noobs' have. Until it hits day 12 and you're carrying a silenced M4 with enough ammo to take out a small town; your living off the land and you've got yourself a nice vehicle. Water isn't a problem and you've got a camp set up for gear. Now that you've got everything you need what do you do?The answer is simple .. you go out on raids or murder sprees even ganking. Again all things you can do by yourself no doubt effectively. But with a much larger cooperative group your efficiency becomes drastically better.I can't think of ANY POINT in DayZ where not having a cooperative group is an advantage... and if you're like me, when things get really bad you can always shoot your friend. osiriszoran 33 Posted June 15, 2012 i've had a ton of co op moments from 1 other person to 8 random people. yesterday i met up with 3 random guys and we battled our way out of cenero to bolota and then north to stary and the NWAF. one of them got eaten by zeds at stary unfortunately.in the 8 man co op it was a night time map and we made the cathedral in cenero a fortress. we would send 2 3 man teams out into the night to gather supplies while the other 2 guarded. bandits would take pot shots at our cathedral strong hold and at one point one of our team was killed but luckily the other team was nearby and was able to kill the bandit duo. drayson 158 Posted June 15, 2012 People who think this game doesn't encourage coop play don't realize how hard it is to survive on your own compared to running with 2-5 people.
worst2first 71 Posted June 15, 2012 I've done both and it's easier solo (at least for me). It comes down to a simple equation. The larger your group, the higher the percentage there is that someone will do something stupid and jeopardize everyone. Playing in a group also lulls you into a false sense of security. When you are on your own and there is no one to come save your ass if you screw up, you know you had better bring your A game all the time.
WalkerDown (DayZ) 296 Posted June 15, 2012 The only cooperation "promoted" (it's not really promoted by the game itself tho.. it's only a convenience) is with your own friends and teamspeak, basically play in a clan, but this is true for almost any multiplayer game out there (clans are advantaged).Join up with a stranger in-game, at the moment, doesn't make any sense.. first because 9 of 10 will shot you before you can even talk; second because there's no way to communicaty realibly in game; third because you don't need anyone else to survive: weapons everywhere, food everywhere; zeds are a joke.. there's NOTHING you can't do alone. In fact you going to play in team (with your own mates) for only one purpose: killing those alone ppl for fun.. not for survive to the enviroment.
