  1. If you really believe that if this was a 'real' simulation and there was 'consequences' to your actions if you murder someone and people would for some reason 'not' kill each other in a zombie apocalypse. You're deluded. Shooting on sight might just be your key to survival - any interaction you take with another person would be entirely at your own risk. Who's to say they won't just shoot you first? TEN Reasons why I would kill anyone I met in real life during a zombie apoc: (assuming they ignored warnings to keep away .. or I just needed something) 1. Supplies. They are short, and two mouths to feed is harder than one. And face it, you might just be carrying something I can use. 2. Liability. If at any point they are bitten / converted / hungry / infected / hurt I would have to use rationed supplies of medical gear to support and/or aid them. Medical gear that I could use on myself. 3. Trust. Who is this stranger? Are they going to kill me for my limited supplies? How can I trust him/her. There is a high possibility at the point in which I sleep I may never wake up again. 4. Experience. Everyone reacts to a disaster differently. There are some that huddle together and pray, others that loot the rubble of a city shattering earthquake and others again that simply learn rapidly to adapt to their surroundings. There is no telling what kind of murderous experiences this person has had to do to survive. Including killing friends, family members and relatives. 5. Fear. Quite simply at the point where a world has been turned upside down I'd be petrified of just about everything. A realistic approach to any situation. Panic sets in and fight or flight takes over - trust goes out the window. 6. Disease. I don't know who you are, where you've been or what you are carrying. My survival may rely on what little medical supplies I could scavenge together and in a world where a cold or diarrhea could be fatal - I want you as far away from me as possible. 7. Mental Distress. Many disorders occur during high stress situations, including mental distress, dementia, over self preservation, delusion etc. There is no telling what kind of mental state a person is in after that kind of traumatic experience. There is also no telling what mental state I would be in - you have to factor in the fact that you might just go bat shit crazy. You never know, maybe its you who are the crazed bandit that finds power in numbers and goes around killing and taking what you need. Whats stopping you? 8. Bandit Packs. I hate to say this but yes, it would happen. People would band together and forge a new life for themselves, strongest first. Weakest second. The meek are not the mighty. 9. Oppression. Women would become a commodity. People have needs and without law and order, people take what they want. And often kill for it. A persons rights no longer exist when there is no law or repercussions. I for one would immediately turn away anyone of female gender as a companion due to their pull and / or value in such a situation. (I know this is sexist, but lets be 'realistic' here for a minute.) 10. Area Denial. If you're making a living in a 256 x 256 square mile radius and there are fifty other people or more trying to stay alive in the same area - you're going to have some conflict. Zombies or no someones going to want to take someone out. Whats mine is mine, whats yours can also be mine. So saying 'IN A REAL SITUATION!!' is moot really ... in a 'real' situation it would be doggy dog and people would kill each other just as viciously as they do in the game. As for being shot in game, if you take the chance to help someone out / take them out completely its an unrealistic in game decision. A lot of people play this game for the experience - and once that experience is over they turn to banditry. What else are you going to do with an AS50, a backpack full of ammo and a range finder. You could die and loot it all again or you can shoot people.

I just love how no one helps out.

If you're being chased by a horde of zombies, and you run up to someone and say 'help me out here?' its x bullets for the zombies. And one for you. Sounds like he did you a favour.

    NZ/AU Group LFM.

If you swap to vent or TS I might come and see what your scene is like. And believe me, of all the players I'm pretty sure I'd fit the bill of hardened vet. =) Just drop me a message with servers you frequent. Don't post the information on here though - wading through more bandit bodies isn't my idea of fun.

ANY way to flip ATV w/o another vehicle??

This is gonna sound really stupid, but we had two of these flipped over on the road. A friend of mine got really mad and went back to camp, got the gaz, and hit it at 110 full on dead center. (we've tried to flip them before and they tend to explode) To our surprise, the bike got 'caught' in the middle of the car, then flipped upright and took no damage (the car also took no damage). So, he turned the car around and hit the other flipped bike the same way. Same thing happened. Ever since we've been hitting the ATV's with the car at full speed. =) (may not work for everyone, but its something to try when you're sick of the game)

    Survivors underpowered?

Your mistaking bandits for murderers. You can get a few kills before becoming a bandit. Also those that ALT+F4 will detract from your 'bandit' score. I know on one character I killed well over 15 people and had a total of 3 murders. Cest La' Vi. And no, I did not miss. They dropped to the ground bleeding from their heads before logging out / sinking into the ground.

    Challenges Accepted

So I've been blown up, flown a chopper into a building, picked up randoms in a bus, medic'd and shot more people than I care to count. I've had FN Fal, Bizon, ALL the M4's, NVGs, GPS and even the Rocket Launcher. I've driven the ATV, Pushbike, several variations of cars, flipped more than 3 atv's and have had two explode on me. Dirt bike, Mini Van (want to paint scooby doo style) and accumulated can's of mountain dew. I've traveled across maps, I've spent days in the wasteland. I've traveled in and out of the debug plains and forest for fun. I've consumed countless tons of animal and enough beans to power a small nuclear facility. I've drank entire lakes dry and I've been killed by trees, rocks, doors, zombies, players and once even a rabbit who ran into me breaking my legs. (I don't get it either.) I've been to every city both at day and night and I've raided, pillaged, run over, stolen and destroyed more tents than I care to count. I've looted countless crashed choppers and I've beaten up bandit snipers for their beans. And now I'm at a crossroads. I love this game - but I'm really out of ideas here. So I'm putting it out to you kind folk on the forums. I know there's people out there that have done the same amount of feats as I have .... what do you do for a challenge when beating up the 'LOL I R LOG IN TO GET MOAR AMMO!!' tards just isn't fun anymore.

Most entertaining thing you've done in dayz?

So we parked a chopper on an island, and the guy that was flying it 'glitched' to the debug forest. So anyway, our camp was way north west and it was just raided. I killed a few jokers (I don't blame them we had a ton of stuff) and took the red car that was now shot to crap and it was sitting there. So now we're out a chopper, we have a red car, I have 5 tanks of gas, and my buddys on the south east shore by the lighthouse and he has a boat in the ocean with no fuel. So we're stuck. Out of luck. Down and out. We were kings and now we're the fools. So, I had nothing to loose. I pack whats left up in the car and throw the rest of the gas in there. Another mate of mine has a bit of a reputation. Whenever he gets nice gear, he dies. We call it the curse, because it happens religiously. What was to happen next I will never forget. The logic was get my cursed buddy to log in - and if anyone is to die, it'll be him. I get in the car and my mate who was hanging by the boat suddenly explodes into laughter. He had stepped on a rock, it broke both his legs, knocked him out, and catapaulted him into the ocean. He promptly respawned, returned and found his backpack sitting on the rock. So he grabbed it, his gun (m203 intact no ammo) and was good to go. That should have been a sign, turn back now. But no - that wasn't enough. You see, while leaving camp (night time) we were driving when it happened, headlights behind us. Two sets of headlights behind us, we were being chased. This was just getting better! So I hit the gas and floored it. Left the suckers behind, this night was getting great. So we're hammering our way across the map - gas is getting low. We've got enough gas to fill the car once (which we do, no incidents) and enough to get back to the chopper. NO PROBLEMS! We get to the boat, now I have the '5 minute unconcious' glitch that whenever you log in, 5 mins out cold. So we get to the boat, and the bastards out of gas. Someones gonna have to swim out to the boat. I should have known it was gonna be me, so I throw everythign in the car, grab one of 3 remaining VITAL gas tanks, and swim out to the boat. DSL Disconnects. That's right, the curse strikes again. So there I am screaming 'NO YOU BASTARD' at the screen and twiddling my thumbs. I call my bud and tell him I'm DC'd. He says 'well we could get lucky?' (the cursed guy .. telling me we might get lucky). Finally DSL comes back up and we're away! I log in ... unconcious. This can't end well. Moments later, both legs break, I bleed out instantly - and I sink to the bottom of the ocean. With the damn jerry can. The curse strikes again. This can't possibly get worse right? So I respawn and go looking for jerrys. My mates (the cursed guy and my other buddy) decide f* it, and the 'non cursed' guy swims out, gets the boat gassed (we had just enough) and returns to the shore. The cursed guys cheering now cause we have the boat, and now we have a problem. Noone wants the red car. So they take all the gear they need (including the M203 ammo) and decide to give it a send off. Despite my protests saying the cursed guy is cursed, and this can't end well. My non-cursed buddy decides over TS to give it a farewell explosive style. He turns (still standing on the lighthouse) lines up the car and! Falls through the world and dies. Never even fired a shot. Now at this point we're all laughing so hard we're in tears, as this cursed guy is panicking and throwing everything he can back in the car. He gets all the gear, throws it in the car and goes to check on the boat. Its crawling up the cliff side, he mentions that it seems like its trying to eat him. Both of us freak out and tell him to get away from it, sit still and don't move. We both rapidly respawn and get back to the boat. We tell the cursed guy to log off, both get on the boat, and take it safely to the chopper, except we run out of gas. We now have the boat in the middle of the ocean, with no gas, and we're good to go. If we got it back to inland we thought we would be in the clear. NP's right! We'll just swim the rest of the way. So we log off for the night, log in, and we're in the debug plains..... The curse strikes again. So! One of the other guys finds a boat, gasses it up. And gets to the chopper (almost dying twice) he's in the chopper, and he's flying it back to shore when the 'cursed' guy logs in. He switches it to auto-hover, the chopper flips 180 degrees, slams into the ocean and sinks. Killing everyone inside it. .... the curse strikes one final time. I've never laughed so hard in my life.
  8. 'That' guy is %90 of the population you'll run into in game. If your new its probably a good time to learn that most of the vets are vets because they don't care about you. Most of the 'alive' players are KOS. And in day z there is no such thing as a friendly player who won't shoot you in the back for beans.

    ghillie suit for females

This isn't a bad suggestion. I know from experience that a girl or guy wearing a ghillie looks identical. There is no physical difference at all - so this wouldn't be all that bad.
  10. Well, why not? At the moment the forests are pretty easy movement. Why not have roaming NPC bandits that spawn with basic handguns up to I don't know, Firestation loot. You can control forests a little better like this - if you stay in a designated 2km radius for too long the area has bandit spawns that will move around and hunt you down. Keeps people moving, means you can 'gear' up while in forests and gives another level of meta gameplay. It means people will stop hunting each other exclusively and have to deal with both PC and NPC bandits to move around. There's a lot of ways to implement the idea - several would be fresher and better but the above was just an example. It would just add a 2nd dimension to the game that isn't currently there. (which is currently survive zombies, get shot by some tard with a sniper rifle who's relogging to replenish ammunition and never has to visit the airfield again to replenish stocks).

    Longest survival?

I run with T-Rex, currently on the leader board which is under maintenance. I think he's up to 70 hours? Or is that in game days? Anyway, he's very legit, extremely cautious. Great fun to be around cause he panics. =P

    Stargate Z?

    Just an empty land

Don't go south east - it'll take you over an hour. Set your compass to East SouthEast (as opposed to South East, a few degree's higher) you should catch the tree line on the corner of the map and it'll take considerably less travel time. South East will put you around half way down the map.
  14. I got one of these last night in a deer stand and have tried to make use of it, but its rather dark red glow makes it less useful than the normal torch. I was wondering if this is novelty or if it has some kind of use? I was expecting a 'super blinding beam' or something of the sort being military, but it seems to have a god awful red hue and the same torch light up radius as the normal yellow one. As far as I can tell it has no use.
