Screw dogs, I want a bird!

  1. 1. Would you use one if you had the chance to?

I think that having the ability to have a trained Hawk or another similar bird would be a great addition. A bird that you could send out to scout for you, bring you a particular item and even use to create a diversion to throw Zeds and players off your trail.

Something like this would be rare and to get one, you would have to find one, trap it and spend some time training it for what you need. If your character dies, your bird goes back to living in the wild fending for itself until another person finds it. Birds can also be killed and caught by other players if you didn't train it not to approach the candy van and talk to strangers... lol

I want a trained squirrel to send it out and rob the beans out of other players backpacks.

Come on, its a mod, there is a model for dogs in the game so they will use the model for Dayz. Simple as that. Apart from that, how many people do you know that have dogs? And how many do you know that have a hawk? Did you ever try to let a hawk sit on your hand without proper leather protection? If you would be in a zombie apocalypse and see a hawk, would you spend your scarce flesh to feed it and train it so it can hunt you a mice after months of training or would you shoot it and eat iit?

Its just not a good idea.

I don't think it's a terrible idea. There's a reason people got birds. However, yeah, how many people do you see strutting around with a bird as compared to a dog? Hey, you know what? I want a parrot and an eye patch! Yarrr!

I agree with being able to tame a lot of animals, but not in DayZ. Also a bird can't "scout" for you because a bird can't speak your language and tell you what it saw. . .

Didn't knew the survivor in dayz is a member of a native nature tribe and lived this life since he was born so he actually know how to train animals.

I thought the "survivor" charakter is more a kind of urban citizen who founds himself in a zombie apocalypse.

Sorry but I think it IS a terrible idea.

Scout ? What you get "hawk Vision streamed into your mind ??!!

Does it talk to you ?

Screeech Screech -"What's that Hawkie ? Granpa has broken his leg by the old mill and needs help?"

Come on !

Animals in this game should be a source of protein and nothing else.

Hello there

I understand Op's point, and in a game like Oblivion/Skyrim then yes indeedy a splendid idea. In (dayz) reality It's a little too far out *there* to work.

Learning the taming/handling/care of semi wild animals usually takes generations of handed down experience and the current dayz ethos/cannon just doesn't fit that descriptor.

Nice idea though.

trained chimps anyone? Obviously this little fella needs to work on his accuracy but once he gets to grips with that.....

edit - also I'd like to see the triumphant gun held aloft pose as demonstrated superbly by young bobo here added as a character animation to express ones dominance over the vanquished.
