GB size of DZ Standalone ? Best guess anyone ?

Recommended Posts

I'm not looking forward to downloading another 10-20GB via a slooooow link to The BIS Store , especially when it essentially duplicates what I already have on my hard disk.

Although it is essentially contrary to the definition of 'standalone' - I wish that there would be some kind of patch that existing users could download that would slot into the existing Arma 2 installation.

Any best guesses as to how large the download might be ?

The game won't be as big due to the fact we're not going to have all the content from Arma II for example Models such as Tanks, Helicopters and Planes.

I can't give an estimated size but it shouldn't be anyway near as close to Arma II's size, especially with the first build released will be early Alpha.

Also the installations will be completely different, so it's not really possible to do what you're saying.

At the most, maybe 10GBs. I'd say around 4-6 if you want to be realistic. It's definitely going to be less than Arma 2's download space, considering the fact that they're cutting off one map, removing a lot of helicopters and vehicles, along with useless models, and maybe adding a few things here and there.

Speculation at this time is utterly pointless.

Then the the whole forum is pointless Mr Misery (-:

Does it need to be on Steam ? DRH must think that BIS Store has the infrastructure in place to handle the massive surge of simultaneous downloads.

When you use Steam to distribute your game obviously you have to pay Fat Gabe Newell his 30 pieces of silver.

Just like new movies in the cinema, the big money will be made in the first few weeks - if BIS Store can handle that, then they don't need to put it on Steam until the madness has died down.

Plus you don't have to waste 200mb of RAM just for Steam to sit in the background doing 'nothing' while you play.

I actually hope there will be a retail version with a real DVD and shit, because downloading 5GB takes me ~20 hours.

I forget, but does downloading it on an SSD speed it up? Just curious.

How would an SSD affect your network speed?

If you internet is faster than your HDD can write, yes. But I doubt that.

16Gb Corsair Vengeance RAM. 200mb really isn't going to kill me. Plus I prefer being able to use the steam chat system to keep in touch with people and the steam overlay hotkeys are nice and simple and don't break up the game.
