Counter-Sniping Tips

Recommended Posts

So, I have decided to use this DMR that I looted from the NWAF for once, however I did not want to be a douche and snipe guys unawares running around the streets of Cherno. So, I have decided to snipe the guys that do snipe those guys. I do not have much experience sniping, and the DMR has no zeroing so I have heard it might take some adjusting before you can use it to its fullest potential. I also do not have a ghillie suit, just standard military camo, so I don't know if this is going to provide me with a significant advantage/disadvantage. I will also be proned somewhere in the woods (not telling ;) ) so it's not like I'm going to be an idiot and run around on top of a roof with 60 other people on the server wanting to shoot me. Still, I can see myself easily being spotted and getting my head blown up. Will probably be watching the top of the factory due to it's usual sniper attraction, but any other big sniper hotspots worth checking? Thanks.

Interesting...

Counter-Sniping is a difficult feat. You need to be one step ahead of that man pointing his scope at you. I once had an experience at Stary. Me a buddy were roaming around when suddenly I hear a gun go off, and my friend drops dead. I begin to run the opposite direction, ducking and weaving to avoid any shots he would be firing. I had a DMR on me, so I prone to a nearby hill to scout that hillside that I heard the shot come from.

Sure enough, there's a jackass with an AS50, reloading.

I pop off a couple of shots, and got him down quick, I didn't see the dead player's name though, so I continued popping some shots, when suddenly...

Poof. Gone.

If there is anything that I hate more in this game, it's Alt- F4ers. -_-

Watch the obvious spots first think: where would YOU be if you were a sniper?

If u hear s hot try to spot the muzzle smoke, it's there for ~2-3sec, if you not able to localize it exactly shot one time in the drection the shot came from

a single shot in there direction usualy makes snipers relocate or crawl away giving there positions away

hold ALT and only your head moves, even while looking thru your scope so u can't get spotted that easy

I'm making my way towards Cherno and Elekro with an AS50 and a M249 SAW and some non-ghillie cammo. I'll let you know :)

Seriously though. Applying my significant Battlefield sniping experience, figure out where a sniper would take up a position and then find a non-obvious location with a good line of sight on that position. While he's on a hilltop fixated on noobs sprinting through town, you're on a hill behind or flanking him.

Try and counter snipe with at least one other person if you can, 2 sets of eyes is always better than one. Keep some distance between you both and obviously always stalk from the rear. With Elektro hill (either one) it is easy in a group of two to flank the hills , as soon as one of you spots a sniper stay patient until the other one can get eyes on as well. Patience is always the keyword.

On a full pop server someone will always be drawn to the hills, whether they are sniping or counter sniping. Use the bigger trees that you can actually hide behind for cover. Don't move if you have a good position because nothing has happened for 10 seconds, be patient, someone else is generally out there waiting for something to move and being more patient than you. When you do move to relocate to a better or more forward position, plot your course ahead and know exactly which tree you are heading to next. Move in short bursts and always check your six and flanks as soon as you have stopped..

Ideally in a group of two one will be the spotter and one the sniper, the spotter can also be the six checker sitting a bit further back, which can leave you free to look only ahead as they should also have the flanks covered. Doing it alone makes it a bit more difficult, but if you are patient and take your time it can be good sport.

One other quick thing. If you spot a group working together well and they are close, and you are heavily outnumbered don't hesitate to use smoke or nades and sow some confusion. If you are behind a tree it is easy enough to pop out and throw, then get behind your tree and change out to your gun before the nade/smoke has hit. They will generally have no fecking idea where it has come from and will be freaking their shit out while you sit back and pop them off/watch them abort.

All of this can obviously go to watery shit in a basket over white fluffy carpet when you start taking shots from an unknown direction, panick run, swapping out your gun for flares and trip on a tree branch busting your legs while taking multiple rounds to the face. Either way it is always good fun :)

countersniping is easy, just ide somewhere where no one can see you, and wait for as50/M107 shots to ring out, then wait until they take a few shots to pin their direction down, and try to approach them from the side or from behind

cherno silos are very easy to snipe from the northern/western woods, or barricade an apartment you can see the towers from

in elektro, try going to the north hill (not the north east) and see if there is someone on the north hill, but keep being out of sight from the north east hill

the eletro north east hill can best be countered by coming from the north

Also, on Sniper Hill, there's this particular spot that people tend to prone at. There's a stick-post fence with a couple bushes alongside it with a clean path overlooking the power plant and supermarket. Inexperienced people tend to go there to snipe.

Just today, someone called out in side "Any friendlies in Elektro?" I was on the opposite hill to the north, and the fence was the first place I looked. Lo and behold, there was a guy prone underneath the fence with an M24 out. For being so friendly, he had a surprising amount of weapons and ammo.

(Honestly, anyone with a sniper rifle saying they're friendly is lying.)

If you're gonna be using the woods as a cover point, don't use the treeline; all it takes them is a quick scan and they'll identify you. Go prone deeper into the forest to reduce chances of being spotted.
