It seems impossible that BI could possibly have a new game engine ready, so what is actually going to be in the feature set of DayZ standalone? Will any major engine improvements be achieved with this release, or are we just going to pay for the same DayZ with its own hard disk footprint? This is what DayZ needs to be worth paying for: - Larger servers - Elimination of duping and hacking - Logoff timers - Anti-ghosting measures Is any of that actually going to happen?

FYI Duping does not work on a private hive (except for tents+server reset). It stops ghosting and people who Alt+f4, have no other server to get back on to. You can also get their name and make a mental note about that player. Get almost zero Desyncing issues. It's the way to play.

Actually, since ArmA 3 is around the corner, I believe we can expect for a new engine, adjusted to better fit DayZ. - Larger servers: Requires a bigger map and every building to be enterable (The later should come with ArmA 3, on the default map at least) - Elimination of duping and hacking: Continuous work should be done. I think the most ridiculous stuff won't be present on realease and more complex hacks should be removed in the future. - Logoff timers: Only reason we don't have a 5 sec logoff timer right now is because recent ArmA 2 OA patches makes the game automatically clean player models when they log out. I heard the mod had this sometime ago - Anti-ghosting measures: I think this can be worked on the current mod situation, but the new engine should probably have improvements on the matter

I've had a similar situation happen to me as well. One time me and my buddies were looting the NW airfield, and I was running sniper overwatch. I had eyes on nearly the whole airfield, but somehow someone slipped underneath my radar and killed my friend with a sniper rifle. I didn't even hear the shot, I just saw him drop dead. The rest of my squad ran for cover and off the airfield, but I remained and watched my buddy's corpse as I wasn't about to leave his gear behind. 5 minutes later, nothing. No sign of the sniper. 5 minutes after that, still no sign, considering following the rest of my squad and just leaving the body as it is too risky to go loot his corpse with a sniper somewhere on the airfield, even if he logged or moved off. 5 minutes after that, a total of 15 minutes of staring at my friend's corpse, I see a player running across the airfield. Same guy that killed my buddy, died to my bullet because his patience ran out before mine. :P You are guilty of server hopping in the least, and I think logging because you hear shots and think the other player is ghosting qualifies as combat logging as well. Just my opinion here.

This makes sense. Of course we can never truly know what is going on in other peoples heads (but guess at it through the fallacy of false attribution), but we will our own. You're right; i did not go into that building to log off. This is probably why although I felt justified somewhat, I also felt a little dirty. Someone mentioned that I used the ghosting fear as an excuse to do this. That's only partly true; the way i justified it was me having the high ground. I would see a head long before a rifle followed. The ghosting was the catalyst; it was the combination of needing to act and being unable to do so save sit and wait, backed into a corner as I was. I still feel like it makes sense, though, that at some point, this will cross from 'combat logging' to legitimate logging. But I at least know your opinion is that that point will never come.

But isnt that the fun of the game? Not ghosting of course, but not knowing what could happen and DEAL with it? I dont get why so many people use every single exploit or possibility to cheat, this takes all the fun out of the game. If you are in such a tricky situation, do your best and use your surroundings to give you cover in the best possible way. Thats all you can do. If someone tricks you, call him a dickhead and start again. Just like life.

Very guilty. Go play another game, this one is not for you. Death is part of this game. If your just going to use the excuse "well he might have been ghosting" everytime to justify it, then why not do it all the time? How do you know he was? Maybe he was waiting for you? You have to play fair and if someone else does not then its them whos the loser in life. If everyone had your attitude then this game would die even quicker than it is.

I had a similar experience, was approaching the same appartment buildings when a guy suddenly opened fire with a silenced m16. Only thing i could do is zig zag run into one of the apartments (one of the 2 stock buildings with two rooms you can enter) and while running upstairs to the top room i see in the corner of my eye another guy looting a dead guy in the lower room. So I ran upstairs, checked if someone was following me and made my way to the room in the back and proned. Staying there with the gun pointed at the door and having a look back every few seconds is 100% safe from ghosting, no one can get a position behind you and noone can enter the door without you noticing. So my vote goes for guilty :P What happened to me was that after 2 or 3 minutes of silence and a 160 pulse I direct chatted the guy in the lower room and after some time we decided to work together, bloodbagged up and when we heard shots outside he took his cz550 and snipered the guy who shot me before and made me run to the apartment. So in my opinion the situation could be handled without combat logging.

But what if they were ghosting? Is it really patience to watch the one entrance, knowing I would win in a fair fight, only to have someone log in behind me or into one of the side rooms? I suppose that's true. If i'm intentionally server hopping like this, eh? You would suggest finding one server and always playing on that one server then?

that whats i do too, im taking what i need, then im hiding their bodies for not when people will pass here, take theirs stuff and im not lucky, they were just bad, thinking shooting on the top of elektro without being backstabbed, always watch your back, there might be some ghosting kid on the hills switching servers for try to find some people in here, saw many dude doing that, but in the end ive killed them

You have a skewed definition of ghosting. Seems to be an issue with terminology in this topic. In gaming, ghosting is watching someone, listening to their vent/speech, other ways of gaining knowledge to give you an advantage (guy kills you, you tell your teammates where he is). This has been explicitly stated by rocket as being allowed, and is encouraged. What you're talking about Ive heard described as "server hopping". Finding a less popular server to gain gear, or to get where you want to go, then hopping to your desired server to collect/drop-off on your camp, or be in a prime camping spot. tl;dr: ghosting is acceptable. Server hopping is generally thought of to be frowned upon.

The simple fact that you used a different server to get as close to your body as possible pretty much proves you were intentionally ghosting. If you're comfortable with that it is fine, but don't expect your rationalizations to convince anybody other than yourself.

It was unintentional logged into high-pop not expecting someone on my mountain logged back in, "ghosting" but mainly to get the as50 off my dead body came back in, how was i supposed to know some dude was right beside me

In all honesty I've had a great increase in both the quality (no server hoppers, ghosting) and quantity ( we have a huge rivalry with 2 other regular groups plus the stragglers) than on any public server.

I would say it falls easily under racism to have a name that ties to "Hitler" or "Nazi". Then again I work in a company where one of our clients is a guy who legitimately has the last name "Hitler"...so you never know I guess.

Actually I had no idea you called a camp walmart, but lots of people say that about loot piles so your deduction skills elude you there, Sherlock. As for mkaing half page posts about a TG conspiracy and exploiting glitches. We HEARD you say it on your teamspeak first hand, we didn't make it up out of thin air or try to carefully construct a story. Its a fact. I wasn't going to bring up ghosting accusations as they have nothing to do with us being banned, but we had a mole in your teamspeak one day when a group of you were sniping in Cherno (its amazing what people are willing to do for an L85 and a guille suit. :-) .) Our group took out your sniping positions several times and we heard 2 members tell everyone else in the teamspeak they were going on another server to gain position on us. So don't tell me its bullshit. You know damn well some of your guys are less than honorable players. If any admins want the names of these players I can give them to you. But I really don't want this to distact from the topic of our bans, as I don't really care about some people cheap tactics. Can't hide from my AS50 even with your bs ghosting moves.
