Constructive reasons why hive should be gone at standalone!
Profaith posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
So! First of all, I know this is alpha, and that the "Its alpha" excuse is the answer to some of the problems, but i believe that these should be why Hive should be taken down by standalone! 1. Ghosting- This completly gets rid of ghosting, nuff said... 2. Alt-F4ing- People cant just server hop, they have to atleast not play the game untill they feel safe, or you can just camp them :) 3. Less killing overall- And by this i meen, people are less likely to engage in mindless electro snipings or camp the coast, just because of the fact that they cant just server hop. 4. Gear A- People become more attached to their gear simply because they know they cant alt f4 out or server hop to find new loot. B- People will be more inclined to join groups for sheer safety in numbers, however this wont affect lone-wolf as much because larger groups cant just go server hopping... 5. The Community! A- People will quickly realize, KOS will only get you so far, and will outreach to try and find people to play... B- People could actually make clan bases, without being ghosted into them... So, another thing, if you look at Minecraft, as its probably the closest resemblence to DayZ on how its being marketed (Word of mouth, Released alpha) People dont complain when they die, or join a new server, they just restart, however that has been impleted since MC Came out, i feel that this Hive structure wont necessarily destroy DayZ, it just fixes a ton of key issues, and would build a better community, I saw one quote from Rocket where he says we have the ability to change what the state of the game is, and he will not add any mechanics to favor one side, this gives the ability to change it, it doesnt favor one side, as there will still be bandits, its just people cant exploit, and glitch their way into this KoS We call DayZ, however much i love this game, and play it WAY TO much, i feel like these will help the game immensly Also, im stating some of the current downsides to not having a hive... 1. Admins - Can ban you whenever and you lose your stuff, *However, it is not that hard, and if you're so far along in the game, its probably time for a restart anyways, or the server would fail anyways* 2. Server Shutdown- Lose stuff... All i can really think of right now, Please leave comments / suggestions below so i can add or subtract from this list :) Thanks guy! P.S, Made this thread last night appearantly, dont even remember making it >.> so sorry for any grammar fails or other weird things... -

Do you mean ghosting as in Hamish and Andy, ghosting? -

I don't know what the hell ghosting is, but I'm guessing it has something to do with mountain. -
(Rocket) Why are we logging in on the coast
Devmagic replied to Siggy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Surely hacking is an issue that's up to Battle Eye to fix. Rocket is trying to fix the issues within his own mod. "Ghosting" is an issue no matter how much you try to say it's not. Granted as i stated before, his motives were good but perhaps his execution was not. If you don't like it, go outside. -

Devmagic replied to Siggy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Tried jumping back on the same server, bet that won't happen. If he didn't people would still be upset with all the "ghosting" so how would you combat both these issues? -
How about when you get hacked, log off, take a 5 minute break, calm down, and then play again. If a hacker kills you it ends in the same result but with no gear. It seems to me that no matter what rocket seems to try and do to help everyone flames every thing he inputs. He obviously did this to stop the "ghosting" issue that so many people were getting annoyed with. Instead of just hating, why not suggest a better idea to combat this issue?

Siggy (DayZ) replied to Siggy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Lol....... i don't even have to comment after that, you clearly haven't read anything. I am talking about legit players and here you are talking about ghosting, do you honestly think people want to run all the way north to have there net dc or something and end up back on the coast? maybe the server restarts or shits itself. So before you come on here and start talking random shit, use your brain a little and think about all the other people, the legit ones. -

Devmagic replied to Siggy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I find the ones throwing around the insults are the ones who have had their precious ghosting techniques taken away from them. I'm not gonna stoop to your level and start insulting people at the drop of a hat. Need i remind everyone of the first rule of Chernarus? Yes it's unfortunate, hell it happened to me too, but i dont remember a time when people weren't getting sniped in these areas so whats new.... -

Where I can certainly see the frustration of a lot of posters here ... there are some positives. Connection issues 1. Everyone started on the coast ... updating to 1.7.2.5 and joining a server running the same version did that. 2. Everyone not updated to 1.7.2.5 is going to have login problems to servers running that version. 3. Six launcher does not update to 1.7.2.5, DayZ Commander does. Make sure you have to the right version as the server you are trying to join. Negatives to the feature (if it is a feature) Almost everything written above in the thread. Positives to the feature 1. No more players server hopping for loot. 2. (A by-product of number 1) ... less buildings barbed wire barricaded by those same loot hoppers. 3. No more players server hopping from building to building and mountain to mountain just to snipe people and grow their murder count. 4. No more ALT+F4gs leaving the server if they are shot at to join another server with complete immunity. 5. No more players ALT+F4ing to bandage and heal on another server before rejoining the fight. 6. No more ghosting in a firefight for unfair advantage. 7. Encourages people to find nice, well managed servers, to join and stick with and therefore less admin abuse problems. 8. Encourages people to become regulars on a server and maybe actually get to know the community(s) there. Less pew pew when you know some of the players on the server from regular interaction with them, as opposed to shooting everyone just because you don't know or trust them. On the other hand, you can still pew pew if you want. 9. It stops players from ghosting in from other servers on raids and bypassing barriers and defences. (When the standalone comes, and players are able to build bases and underground bunkers etc. What is the point if other players can just materialise inside your santuary from another server?) 10. It helps to stop stream sniping for those that live stream. All of these things have numerous threads, day, after day, after day, complaining about them. Now they have been largely resolved. Maybe they will be replaced with other types of complaint threads, who knows? Yes ... there are going to be problems with dicks sniping new spawns on the coast, but they do this in the towns anyway. It won't be an issue if you are able to find and stick to a server that you like. If the mod had had this "feature" from the start, there wouldn't have been any complaints, but the way the change was introduced, (again, if it is a feature and not a bug), it feels like something was taken away. It is a change, and people hate change, especially if it impacts how they play the mod. I get the negatives, but few are mentioning the positives. I'm interested to see if player numbers drop because of the change, or if they remain static/increase once all the servers have updated. -
Totally lost any faith I had in Rocket/dev team
Zeromentor replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You don't seem to understand what it takes to fix software. You can't put an ETA on it. Just get used to spawning on the coast. Imagine that it is their way to prevent server hopping and ghosting. -
And yet I found your post out of shared interest in sabotage. You guys lack some serious intelligence. Here are the things you did wrong: You ran into and stopped at a camp. You failed to secure the area. You were shot at by my brother who hesitated to kill you but got no response. He is not the best shot in the world and that saved you. You rode your bike down a hill in the open and stopped at another set of tents just 270 meters from the place you almost died. I was out in the open as you rode by,had you paid attention you would have actually seen me. You also failed to look around the hostile area you stopped in because again you would have seen me approaching. You took fire and Alt F4'd. You returned to the game shortly at another position with an illegal weapon. Also in your original and as of this time unedited post you mention vehicles and tents but fail to mention hacked weapons. Had there been hacked weapons I believe this would have been a massive justification for using demo charges on the site yet you fail to mention this. Were you just feeeling gracious? Furthermore the camp was not undefended. There were 5 or 6 others within 500-1000m on other vehicles fast on their way. We were looking forward to a fight even against a ghosting Alt F4 hero. But you had to go script an illegal weapon in. Such a disappointment.
-
Oh lets not forget that the "other guy" had been waiting while your pal there left the server, went ghosting back up the hill then pulled out an AS50 TWS and popped me in the back. I was scanning for his ass right where he combat Alt F4'd only to take it in the back by a hacked weapon. Your buddy is a combat Alt F4 hero,a ghoster and a hacker. Real stand up friends you have there,I'm sure someone would love to hire your services.

!! All of my suggestion are for the upcoming standalone version, because i don't think they can made it into the mod, being very hard to realize!! IF you want to comment, i would love it, if you read the whole text (only 5,4k letters and spaces and ' and () ) and maybe overthink it once or twice before hating me. There is an simple but yet hard method to stop or fix or balance the following things: Extreme PvP-ing Server-Hopping Ghosting Alt+f4ing stability issues Unoffical server issues old version server issues Only day/night server issues teamplay issues CHEATING LOOTCYCLING now we come to the idea i had when i just created a new WoW-character. short: bin players to like 4 servers and gave them fixed name. long: spoilers
-
maybe i can shorten it: bind players to servers. no more ghosting, hopping. and you might think twice before you give ur (fixed) name bad props

Calling you out FTW Static Proof
lentWolf replied to Doc_Wreckshop's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ermmm ... first it was Static, now you're accusing all of us as a whole. Make up your mind - Tek is right, this is becoming nothing more than a soap opera. We don't practice any malicious tactics, or anything intentionally exploiting weaknesses in the game code (such as, in DayZ's case - alt-f4'ing and ghosting, or using weapons not in the mod). We are recruiting actively at all times, and we frequently run with new members in our ranks. They make mistakes. Many of our members are joining a group for the first time - and have become used to dc'ing or ghosting etc, because they were solo (and who can blame them - this game is a mess right now). We in no way encourage such behavior, and when we witness it (such as in the firefight when one member DC'ed), we take action against it. The reprimand depends on the severity of the problem, but if it happens more than a time or two the member is removed w/o hesitation. We never have such a problem, though, because most members are smart enough to learn from their mistakes. Who are you to judge how our organization maintains its members? If you don't like us, don't play with us - but don't accuse us of crap you can't back up. Anyone reading only this last post - sorry, this post may have seemed a bit aggressive, but perhaps if you read the other 3 pages of crap you might understand my frustration. These guys first accused Static Proof of hacking, and after days have still not provided any proof or video (even though they said they had tons of footage). Now they're just throwing blanket accusations left and right - with no proof behind it, either. We don't hack. We've reported hackers, I've personally filmed several throughout multiple titles including DayZ. -

What is this "ghosting" you speak of? -
I have noticed something tonight regarding this script kick. It seems to also be associated with players leaving the server and immediately rejoining. I got a couple of our players to try it tonight and indeed if they disconnected and then rejoined they were kicked for this. (This is a good thing I wreckon to prevent players ghosting you, or disconnecting on death), If only someone could verify it. But also later tonight I got kicked for it. I was interacting with a tent. I had one guy right with me who was just covering who was also kicked for same, and another community player other side of map also kicked just running though a field. Someone must be able to shed some light on this?? please.

Why I kill unarmed players
Dramatic Exit replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm sure you're extremely important. <_< --------- Wanna know why I don't shoot the fresh spawns? I like firefights. Challenging two-sided firefights. (provided folks don't go into AltF4/server ghosting mode) If I shoot everyone before they get themslves to a position where they can provide that, then I'm gonna spend my time wanting something that I'm actively preventing from happening. But again, you're one of those folks who doesn't want a challenge. They wanna feel like they're superiour. It's normally indicative of someone with shitty self esteem. Wanna talk about it? -
US1917 ADMIN KICKING after killing them. ADMIN:Brettwig33
v1ktor replied to Harlreddit's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
WHat the fuck is wrong with this 10 year old? I've read 3 threads now where people say they have been banned by this down syndrome kid and the server hasn't even lasted 24 hours yet.... Just because you seem to have dyslexia and cannot read I will re-post the admin/hoster rules And LOL Dumb shit... you cannot place global bans as.... common sense! you do not have the power to do that. These rules apply to your server and you have ZERO right to ban anyone unless you have 100% proof (fraps, logs, pictures) of them HACKING or spamming racist comments. Fuck how I wish rocket enforced blacklisting of servers 11. As a server admin you must not: You are not permitted to ban players for killing yourself or clan members. You are not permitted to shutdown your server when your killed. You are not permitted to shutdown your server when you lose a vehicle. You are not permitted to kick or ban for smacktalk. You are not permitted to ban for suspected cheats or exploits of a non-server-disruptive nature, including but not limited to ghosting, unverified cheating, duping and similar, UNLESS you have solid evidence, IE logs.12. You are permitted to kick or ban for hate speech, including racism and homophobia. All kick or ban actions must be reported in the forums under section http://dayzmod.com/f...heat-reporting/13. You are permitted to kick or ban for ongoing severe hacking that is affecting players in a server-disruptive way. All kick or ban actions must be reported in the forums under section http://dayzmod.com/f...heat-reporting/ -

In the new stand-alone, do you think they will keep the current model of being able to freely move between servers? If so, how do you stop ghosting?

* Server this happened on. Us 244 Dallas * Time that it happened including your timezone. hmm not sure what time in game was daylight out. its 5:30am here * What happened during the incident. hackers broke peoples legs and then teleported them to a location where i think i heard miniguns going off? lotta people died i've had this before and i left the game.(yeah its bannable for aborting in a firefight but i think the rules are a tad different when it comes to hackers, if not then this game needs better hacker protection) *VIDEO* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eiMg9Vu8CA for some reason i joined back still had a broken leg but was back where i was before the teleport? lost all my gear all the same though *EDIT* Forgot to add that me and my squad had issues with the admin on this server. warns me fore leaving the game next to members of COOL whatever. but the entire time we engage them they are aborting and ghosting? someone clear this for me if you are apart of this group? i dont have video up because i wasn't up close to the fighting but more or less providing overwatch

US1917 Admin Abuse [Have gotten several reports]
Devil's Advocate replied to Silenus01's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
You posted a log with him having the items. Someone already linked one forum post I was going to, so I will post in this: 11. As a server admin you must not: You are not permitted to ban players for killing yourself or clan members. You are not permitted to shutdown your server when your killed. You are not permitted to shutdown your server when you lose a vehicle. You are not permitted to kick or ban for smacktalk. You are not permitted to ban for suspected cheats or exploits of a non-server-disruptive nature, including but not limited to ghosting, unverified cheating, duping and similar, UNLESS you have solid evidence, IE logs. There is also this rule: 13. You are permitted to kick or ban for ongoing severe hacking that is affecting players in a server-disruptive way. All kick or ban actions must be reported in the forums under section http://dayzmod.com/f...heat-reporting/ Personally OP I would just submit a ticket to support so they can look over this server with any evidence you have. Edit: For anyone who questions where I got these rules I will post this: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/62195-server-hosting-rules/ -
I believe what Haplo meant to say was, "USE THE DAMN SEARCH FUNCTION" There is a pinned thread that tells you, OP, to do this before you post up a thread. This has been discussed many times, and in many parts of the forum. if you want to get your voice out there, next time start by bumping threads you agree to, or giving your beans (+1, like, whatever you see it as) to the person you agree with. And on topic, THESE ISSUES WILL BE FIXED. It is going to happen. And combat logging, or ghosting (disconnecting to avoid death, or disconnecting and reconnecting to get an advantage) are EXPLOITS, and can get you banned. Not just from the server, but the HIVE, which means no more DayZ for you.
