The reference you link to is a form of cheating called Ghosting on many FPS games where after you die you can spectate a player and using third party voice chat tell other players where the player you are spectating is at. The referenced link has no bearing on DayZ in any way shape or form. Your implying using third party voice applications (which are often bundled with server hosting) is against the rules...is ridiculous. As I said, in this community, Ghosting is a reference to players server hopping for their advantage. Search the forums and enlighten yourself.

How much would YOU pay for DayZ standalone and Why?
mercuss replied to sparta436's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd pay up to a full game price. However the way servers word would have to be seriously revamped. As cool as the idea that my location and equiment transfer from server to server is, it is also one of the most negative aspects of the game for me. I would pay for a reliable server where your weapons and location save on that server only. No ghosting, duping would have to be fixed as well. Would have to be some kind of official server that I can count on always being there, instead of getting taken down after a month. -
Ped you're either trolling or not to bright. See that last line there? It states that you can NOT be banned for ghosting (which isn't what you think it is, ghosting is using third party voice chat to gain an unfair advantage, check it: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ghosting%20video%20game).

Some feature ideas requesting feedback
generationvii replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Instead of using this idea to combat ghosting why not use it to safeguard certain areas on the map? Spread the radio towers around the world map at key item spawn locations, such as airfields, fire stations, barracks general military spawns if you will. Same mechanics apply, you can't log into these locations on any server which would prevent people from server-hop farming certain items. It's a great idea which can be used for other things, but it's too big of a hassle for the "victims" to be used in combating ghosting. Great idea to create threads like this, keep em coming please! -
(Rocket) Why are we logging in on the coast
xzite replied to Siggy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So basically you better hope that server info is always correct in showing 1.7.2.5 (which it rarely is), otherwise you'll be punished and sent to the beach for a long run to think about what YOU have done wrong... Pretty sure someone confirmed this as a bug from the bug notes or watever so i'm not too worried, just not gonna log in till its fixed. ALSO.. I will add that the 5 minute counter that some servers seem to have implimented upon logging back in too fast was just fine for stopping ghosters. It just wasn't forced on all servers. A simple log out timer and this 5 minute counter on logging back in too quick would work fine for stopping the actual issues (Ghosting/Logging).. Leave the server loot hoppers to their own devises, they'll still eat bullets. -
DayZ Standalone – Promoting Codependency & Targets of Opportunity
adamtheheretic replied to Westford's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
What about ghosting, with persistent servers players could jump right into your fortified town. As well as that, survivors and bandits aren't opposing factions, they're different types of play. You can't assume all bandits want to work together as well as survivors wanting to work together, also the addition of the new hero skin would that mean there should be a hero faction as well? -
I cannot wrap my head around your level of ignorance. Your link, not a post from a DayZ Staff Member -> http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/55657-start-here-a-beginners-guide-to-dayz-servers-and-administration/ My link, from a Dayz Staff Member -> http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/62195-server-hosting-rules/ I firmly believe DayZ Staff Member posted rules trumps your user posted rules. As far as you not using hacks, that is correct. I likened your actions to using hacks in an attempt to better explain what it is you do by ghosting. Either way, I won't argue with you anymore as you clearly refuse to accept what you're doing is both against the rules and an exploit. But ask yourself this; what would Jesus say?
-
I assume you didn't read the first sentence of my post? It comes from -> http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/62195-server-hosting-rules/. Could you please tell me where in this linked post it states "meta gaming" is not a ban offense? Because you seem ignorant, let me help enlighten you. A godmode hack prevents a player from taking damage, yes? This is clearly illegal. An invisibility hack prevents players from seeing you, yes? This is clearly illegal. By hopping to another server (IE: Ghosting) you are, in effect, using both an invisibility hack and a godmode hack, because you have removed yourself from a dangerous situation whereby you cannot be harmed nor seen in order to move your position to better engage people. I'm afraid this is common sense. But I suspect you've convinced yourself it isn't an exploit. Because you don't like cheaters. Even though you, yourself, are a cheater.
-
Just as an aside - You are not permitted to ban for suspected cheats or exploits of a non-server-disruptive nature, including but not limited to ghosting, unverified cheating, duping and similar, UNLESS you have solid evidence, IE logs Ghosting is a term this community uses to describe a player who logs to another server to move or bypass safely on this other server, then relog into the original server and do whatever it is you originally couldn't do without server hoping. It is an exploit of the game. Also, you clearly used it to be a disruptive. All of this you freely admit to. I would argue the Admin is in the right to ban you. By removing yourself from the server and ghosting into a better position, you very obviously exploited game mechanics to your advantage. This shouldn't be acceptable.

(Rocket) Why are we logging in on the coast
tarquinbb replied to Siggy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
it's an extremely harsh change if intentional... HOWEVER: alt+f4 and ghosting was legit and destroying the game. at least 50% of my total 'kills' and almost 100% of my kills where i didn't manage to insta-kill the guy were ruined by aborting kids. not to mention the ever present risk of their hidden friend server hopping to ghost around and flank from behind at any moment. the harsh change was absolutely necessary. if this change is here to stay - find a server you like and stick to it. seriously, the aborting/ghosting problem is waaaaaay worse than hacking imo. you think you're having a fair and legit fight, then some ass just decides to LOLQUIT and get a free kill on you because he server hops and teleports into the bush directly behind you.... hackers you just spot a mile off - then leave game and contact an admin. -

i havent had this punishment yet. I have however had the punishment of being KO for about 5 minutes. Other day I was running along when some guys pulled up on a motorbike doing doughnuts. i was just watching and saying LOL when battle eye lost contact with me and i got kicked. i came back on immediately and as i passed out saw the bike lying there ( i figure this server was having a BE problem at that moment). really wanted to get that bike and waited the whole timer, then server restarts. back to topic.. i always make a point of waiting several minutes before trying to join another server if ctrlaltdel for a thunderdome event. wait before joining. that is only way to explain. i also switch servers occasionally just to play vs more ppl and again wait several minutes before joining. try this if you havent. if u have i dunno i am glad there is some attempt to stop ghosting, hopping etc tho. its within the framework of arma 2 really. hope for better in future standalone, it shall happen imo -
Social Observation: Playing DayZ to not play DayZ
spliff (DayZ) replied to ACow's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i think that hits the nail on the head. and i hope when the standalone game arrives things like easy looting on empty servers, then joining full ones or "ghosting" to kill someone who defends himself "too good" will be goners. -
Social Observation: Playing DayZ to not play DayZ
insaneturtle replied to ACow's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
personally i server hop to get the gear (note by this i mean a compass. seriously they are the hardest thing for me to find) i spend days (relative term somtimes i find a quick body to loot or kill some player ghosting me) usually getting back faster (note this doesn't mean i constant server hop it means i just hate the ridiculous grind that getting any high end gear is for anyone without a clan). this doesnt make me a bad player it just makes me a player that for lack of a safety net wants to be able to compete with all the clans and large player groups that allow for a ridiculously short death experience. i still sneak past zeds and players and i still take getting pinned down and murder like a man. -
Question about AS50

I was 800m away, from my last victim (Elektro sniper), so I wanted to know if I had to worry about his m8's ghosting me 'cos he was part of a clan. @sgt.asshat: Huh, thats strange. because according to that link you posted it says the dmr is much quieter. But here http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Weapon_Comparison_Table it says the dmr is 'very loud' and the AS50 is 'moderately loud' -
stop ghosting. have a log out timer and log in cooldown.
slartibartfast (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Ok, respawning at the coast has merit. I have no issue with that. It is clearly designed to prevent server hopping, ghosting and other nefarious activities. Unfortunately I have some issues with me and my mates finding servers with low enough pings to let us all on, we pretty much cover the globe from Sweden to New zealand. When the game bombs at the load screen then we are all resigned starting off on the beach front. Sigh. How about a log out timer of 20 seconds, this would stop the alt-f4 cowards and a log in cool down of 5 minutes would stop the ghosters, to a certain degree. Maybe prevent player death within 30 seconds of spawn, unless PvP initiated.. this would slow down the spawn point campers. -
Who Needs A Respawn When You Can Do This
kayakinack replied to kayakinack's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I read rather well. Here is a recap of your posts would you mind pointing out where you said "if it is in fact a bug, that it should be reworked into the actual game. Would solve your problem, as well as problems with ghosting and server hopping?" Maybe it is "IF its not WAI, it should be" ..... umm I don't know, I must have missed some English classes somewhere... As a matter of fact if you had said what you allegedly said I would have thanked you for your opinion. -

Phantasm (DayZ) replied to Siggy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If server hopping was such an issue, the simplest solution would be to disable character saves beyond their originating server. Go to a different server, start fresh. Same thing that every other MMO does. This would completely disable ghosting, server hopping for loot, etc. -
Currently recruiting for a clan war. Anyone that doesn't sound like Mickey Mouse hop on our teamspeak server. We have an in-game server and we know of many hostile vehicle locations and camps. Teamspeak 3 - ts3.ascendedkillers.org:9988 No hacking/duping No alt+f4ing No ghosting

DE 128 - fishy things going on
[email protected] replied to Azrail (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hi Azrail, i am the Server Admin from DE 128 and i give you my impressions over the process. The Heli spawn Thursday and we repair the Heli all the Day because we have no Car and only the gas was missing. So two of us stay at the island (on the Island was no Camp with Gas, only a camp in the north but there was nothing) and the rest was at the Cap. The your Group attack us and kill some of us. It`s okay. And I do not ask where you are coming from. Some on the Island an one or two at the cap. Where did you get the fuel? Serverhopping? After we lost the Heli the Second time in 8 days. We had no more relish for playing that the Group disconnet from the Server. An now to your summary. 1. Desinc = Yes i think its normal for Arma that Server have desinc and crahsed sometimes. We are a big Community and habe some other Gameserver on the same root. 2. ghosting = I`dont know but i think ist was a Hacker or I think with a heli you're not exactly inconspicuous. 3. Teleport - Hacker but i think Battleye has resolved the problem for now. I'm sorry that you make this experience to our server but I hope you come back and convinces you that something is not normal for us. -

I haven't realy tested it yet, but when i played last night first time on a 1.7.2.5 server i did spawn on the coast, made my way inland, had to log off for a bit, so just went to the lobby, went back in, and i spawned right where i was. While this 'bug' can be annoying if it happens on the same server everytime, it would be a decent fix for serverhoppers though. if the Hive only remembers the location on the last server you were on, and only applies it to the last server you were on, you will never be able to 'ghost' into a location through some other server, nor would you be able to camp/serverhop loot locations or sniper spots. While on the one hand i like the persistance across servers, it does result in some 'exploitable issues', but seeing camps are server restricted, once you make yourself a camp, or pick a home server, the only thing that truely matters is persistance on your homeserver. If this is the way the bug works than: 'is it realy a bug?' because what it does is exchange the following true issues: - server hopping - 'ghosting into locations' - Alt+F4 ghosting revenge Into the inconvenience that if your 'homeserver' doesn't have a free slot, and you WANT to play you start at the beach on another server, this then becomes your new persistant server. So if then a slot frees up on your homeserver, and you move back to it, you spawn there at the beach... If that is what it does, then PLEASE LEAVE IT IN! ... the minor inconvenience doesn't way upto all the other things it fixes! atleast untill there are other ways to fix the above issues... -
How To Stop The Coast Spawn Issue!!!
DEOVONTAY MCSLANGA replied to Devmagic's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I like the way you think, but it definitely still happens within the same server. Anything to fuck with alt-f4/ghost/server hoppers though, I'll gladly walk from the beach to my camp to retrieve a vehicle a couple times a day if it means I don't have to literally PLAN on someone ghosting me when I'm sniping. -

yes they can: http://dayzmod.com/f...-hosting-rules/ 11. As a server admin you must not: You are not permitted to ban players for killing yourself or clan members. You are not permitted to shutdown your server when your killed. You are not permitted to shutdown your server when you lose a vehicle. You are not permitted to kick or ban for smacktalk. You are not permitted to ban for suspected cheats or exploits of a non-server-disruptive nature, including but not limited to ghosting, unverified cheating, duping and similar, UNLESS you have solid evidence, IE logs.12. You are permitted to kick or ban for hate speech, including racism and homophobia. All kick or ban actions must be reported in the forums under section http://dayzmod.com/f...heat-reporting/13. You are permitted to kick or ban for ongoing severe hacking that is affecting players in a server-disruptive way. All kick or ban actions must be reported in the forums under section http://dayzmod.com/f...heat-reporting/Now the last rule is the vague line in this whole story. Hacked weapons are not server disruptive (global kills are) and if you can't confirm if they are spawned in, you'd have to refer to rule 11. Also please note the very first line of text in the linked thread (server hosting rules), you can get blacklisted by breaking these rules

most people dont just tell you where they are straight away, they will get to know you first and maybe meet up somewhere that isnt where they are camping out or what ever. But yeah just come in and say hi, but be warned people found ghosting will be banned from my teamspeak perminently.
