I can't club them, I love them seals! D: But on a more serious and hopefully constructive note, I won't be siding with either group - those who don't mind those cans and those who do. But I can see where either of them are coming from and understand their different points of view. Let's face it - this whole debate in its core is about two different "sub-communities" resulting from two different ways of playing the game: one group wanting to have a more deep, realistic and immersive kind of gameplay and the other just trying to have fun and enjoying this sort of campy stuff (to simplify things and be blunt). Whatever decision is made or compromise is found in this specific case, either way some players will be disappointed or upset by it. I actually like NonovUrbizniz' suggestion (http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/125793-the-notorious-can-incident/page__st__60#entry1207557): The only way to please everyone and to NOT let someone feel like "the mod is headed in the wrong direction" is to let everyone decide which way they want to experience this game by choosing which server to play on. Compare it to the classic MMOs - and I know DayZ isn't one of them (neither do I want it to be), but just like server-architecture etc. this is one thing this game might positively learn from them. Specific "roleplaying" servers are very common amongst them and not only have a different policy, but also let players who want to immerse in the game's universe and lore gather and be safe from "normal" players who break their immersion by having peculiar names or texting and acting in accordance with the players behind them rather than the characters. Of course, this sort of option does seem rather abundant just for some sorts of food and drinks... but it can be used for much more, like the weapons and vehicles available on the server, the effects of lighting, the zeds' behaviour etc. For the future, I do think the distinction between "normal" and "roleplay" (or "veteran", "hardcore" or whatever you might call them) servers might be a viable option for combining and simplifying existing server-specific options, like crosshairs, 3rd person view and, well, having the new cans and other things. TL;DR: Include this sort of stuff in the server-specific options. Also, I do love them seals.

Textures on my character are really low quality...
Minamo replied to thirdsketch's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
What he said... it's even worse if you are using the free version of ArmA 2, and only bought Operation Arrowhead, but then also roads and buildings are horrible looking.. Oh and Vehicles :) -
DayZ patch 1.7.6 and i'm guessing 1.7.6.1 also. - Got a problem wtih Duplicating items which were inside of a tent which was placed before patch 1.7.5 / 1.7.5.1 Placing new tents, same problem with tents just.... gone... Poof, just vanish after a server restart.. Best thing i can say is? use Vehicles as storage. It is Dayz, and hopefully it'll be working in the next update..

Jesus guys, we don't get paid to host maps - if anything the mod developers ask us to pay THEM To the guy complaining about custom file sizes send us an e-mail [email protected], we have to manually change them for you. Most people don't want them enabled so they are disabled by default. Multiple mods using the same map means that for the other versions we have to create a database specifically for that map and use that as the base because bliss's database structure does not allow you to host the same map on multiple mods. 2017 and DayZ+ were a huge pain in the ass, I didn't say we weren't going to host it I said it will take longer. The tavianas use the same base database, dayzland.eu uses the base vehicles and database from dayztaviana.com. The Vilayer maps (fallujah, lingor, zargabad, panthera, takistan, utes) were updated to use the 1.7.5.1 base code instead of 1.7.4.4, the same way Vilayer maps are always updated. We are going to be updating dayz, celle, fallujah, lingor, zargabad, panthera, takistan, and utes to their latest versions and add the framework to run skaro lingor, dayzero, redux and invasion 1944 (they will come later) in about an hour and a half (8:30PM EST) - they will require rolling restarts.

Here's the thing. In my opinion, PvP should take a second seat to PvE; it should occur within the dangerous world of the zombies. Everything should. It seems to me that is the challenge of DayZ - surviving and getting things done under the continual threat of zombies. PvP should have to adapt to it, people who want to collect vehicles should adapt to it, people who want to play the survival aspect alone should adapt to it. Not the other way around. This is a game with no manual and no tutorial - meant for you to figure out how to survive and adapt... it's meant to be hard. I think some in the community have become so comfortable with zombies that are more an annoying gnat-like backdrop than a real threat. 1.7.5.1 was the first time they actually were a threat. And, apart from legitimate glitch complaints and, to some extent, a good point about pistol fire, people were complaining rather than adapting. Players should HAVE to slow down and really gauge if they can do what they need to quickly... choosing when they can run, how close they can get to a zombie, if they can get by it or have to kill it, whether they can rob, kidnap or kill this other player and avoid being killed by zombies. In other words, they should HAVE to adapt to the threat that exists and not complain because it's suddenly harder to have a shoot out between squads in Cherno or run into the NWAF and loot the barracks or get all the parts they need to fix a heli. All the changes being made to make tasks like refueling slower and more realistic are just pointless time-wasting annoyances when there's no danger involved in doing them. Yes, one could say, "but you run the risk of being shot," but that means we're doing CoD meets FarmVille and not a zombie survival game. In a zombie survival game, the guy doing the shooting should ALSO be in danger if he fires his weapon. If he can shoot me AND survive the zombies coming after him - you know, the point of the game, then good on him - he deserves the vehicle and my loot... a game well played. But, if I get shot while the zombies are just ho-humming around, that's just lame. And, I appreciate that there are limits to what the devs can do and I think they do a phenomenal job. I wonder, however, if it is such a good idea to cater to the community when doing so diminishes the theme of the game. Fixing the glitches - yeah, I love it! More realistic stuff - fantastic! Make it easier for the guys who come on to get a couple of hours good PvP action - No! Make these guys up their game to get that action in a world where zombies are a threat. Make them, make everyone, adapt to the zombies and not the other way 'round. Yes, the game should be playable, but it should be as advertised - very hard. I think there are ways to make the zombies hard, but not insanely OP. And, hopefully, the devs can find that point - I imagine it's the hardest thing to tweak because of the impact zeds have on game performance. Look at the videos streaming on YouTube - from Frankie, Jack and others... I hear a lot of, "just ignore the zombies"... "just keep running and you're fine"... "Don't worry about the zombies"... not a great comment on a zombie survival game, in my opinion.

What is your Dream Vision for Dayz - 2 Years from now?
dackspuds replied to rassad's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A river. No, really, that's what I want to see in Chernarus. Just a central, wide river that you can take boats up and down on. Also bridges across the river so you can get vehicles across. This would be interesting because you could create 1 or 2 very large concrete modern bridges with lootable buildings on both sides of the river and bridge, and it would become a very important strategic location to control. Then, you could add small, wooden bridges periodically along the river to make it possible to cross without going into the meatgrinder that the large bridges would be. Possibly make these smaller bridges destructable, or have the option to like, set the bridge on fire, with a pack of matches. Really interesting to think about. -
We're hosting a DayZ Hunger Games tournament on his server tonight/this evening, and we welcome as many people as possible. We'll all spawn at the same time, fresh server (meaning fresh loot, zombies, vehicles, crash sites etc), on Chenarus. You spawn with a bandange and a flash light. It's a free for all (you can make aliances and talk through direct comms if you wish), and the last man standing wins (only one person can win, if you make an aliance you'll have to betray or have a standoff at some point). Anything goes except hacks. If you die, whether it be from zombies, falling or players or anything else, you're out. If you want to take part, send me a private message or reply to this thread and I'll give you the details (IP, start time, etc). Thanks Sorry, that went horribly. As it was our first time hosting something like this, we didn't know the best way to manage/organise people. It ended up with some people starting with less blood, a lot of people not turning up etc. When there's lots of people talking in side, it's hard to know who's saying what :P If we ever did this again, we'll be much more organised haha! Sorry again.

Thinking of buying ARMA II just for this game. Few ?s

Hi and welcome. It`s up to you how much you are willing to afford, let me shortly explain, what I did. Being fascinated of a Zombie Survival since I saw George A. Romero`s Dawn of the Dead in cinema in 1979 when I was about nearly 15 years old. Last year I became aware of DayZ, was fascinated again, watched many YT Videos, recognized the growing PVP (I was not amused) and decided to rent a little 12 slot private hive server to take my first steps in safer area in October 2012 (inspite of SA would probably be released in December 2012, I even thought, release would be early 2013). It was a good decision, nowadays I mainly play on official servers being killed again and again, but in case of just chilling with my base, vehicles and guns I join my private server. I call myself a little pussy , but I`m not the youngest and fastest guy anymore :), it`s ok for me. Monthly costs about 8 Euro, even affordable. Arma 2 is worth buying and DayZ is the perfect crema on it, just my 2 cent. -

Hey all. The SPDT recently bought a server! We are all hoping to meet you online, and achieve great adventures together! Our servers has rules and rights so that we all can play and have good fun together! We are currently looking for players to our newly made map which we have used loads of time on to configure just for your sake! (also a bit for us of course :P) - We encourage you to try the server as we're all friendly and are trying to create a nice universe where both bambies and bandits can live together (normal survivors, shouldn't have a problem with staying alive here ;).) Here are some facts about the server. Server Details are as following: MAP - We are currently running the Taviana 2.0 - This is simply an amazing map with so many features it cannot be described, if you haven't yet tried it, you should certainly do it for a pleasures sake! Server Pop Cap - 40 Players (2 which are set for admins, those two spots are of course not in use if we're not online) Spawn Gear - You will spawn with no gear at all, we believe this makes it a greater experience and also more achieving than with starter gear. Server Difficulty/Realism settings - Death messages, 3rd person and waypoints are all enabled, all other things would be unrealistic and therefore we chose to leave it out. SideChat - ON Admins - Our server brings out the finest anti hack system - Admins are monitoring the server at all time - we are using Thesilentwarrior anti hack, which is the newest and most high-tech anti hack system on the market, IF a hacker should appear and ruin the experience for you, we will of course make a roll-back and compensate for everything he has ruined.. Other server changes - We've changed vehicle numbers, to a bit higher than normal. the vehicles are still rare of course, and the planes/choppers are also very very rare! HALO jump so that you can jump from air craft has also been made able. Transporting light weight vehicles with a chopper has also been enabled (a real time saver) - heli crashes has also been made a bit more common if you look the right places. (Secret hideouts) this one we like a lot! - we've made a few hideouts for the curious and achiveing people - if you find a hideout you will hopefully be rewarded, with nice loot - or maybe greeted by firing bandits who's found it before you! Where you are able to find us - Gametrack banner as signature and IP is underneath. and www.spdt.enjin.com (post on forums for more questions etc.) IP - 5.9.124.242 PORT - 4802 We are looking forward to meet new players and make new friends online! Any further questions should be posted on our hompages forum (spdt.enjin.com) if you don't feel for that give us a private message on the forum here! Sincerely the SPDT fellas

Join my NEW Rmod2 dayz server! it has many vehicles like tanks, planes, jets and helicopters, and also many custom buildings! Rmod2 has custom weapons and skins avaliable too, and many more vehicle unlocks! Currently im unable to get it to appear in dayz commander, so searching for something like Turkwars or Turk will come up in the multiplayer lobby of OA. You MUST have Rmod2 installed or you will be denied connection. And i highly recommend you have your arma build version at 10228 as some people had problems trying to connect with the most up to date version installed. Hope to see you there! A video of my server! Rmod2 and instructions for install! http://offgaming.us/rmod/download

Tek (DayZ) replied to plrsniper's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I can't speak for other people, but I can state why I enjoy it. For me it is the unpredictability of the situations you find yourself in. I search for people, but I don't shoot everyone I see, even if I may want to. For me it is the surviving and execution. Can I safely engage someone and survive? Will my attack expose me to someone else I know is running around? Will I be shot in my back by an unknown player? All these things add excitement to my game. I don't sit on top of spawn points, but I also am moving around and looking. Even during these movements I run across players and have tense moments. I want these moments because the unknown is exciting. I may not be geared up yet. I may only have an enfield. What are my options then? Am I close, or should I try and get range for that gun? Do I have an AKM? I better get within 200m, preferably 100m. Can I do so safely? How can I play the cat and mouse game with the zombies that may be around without agro'ing them, so I don't give away my position? I like to loot, I like to fix vehicles and choppers. It is the fear of the unknown that keeps me playing. I want the confrontations because that is where the game gets exciting. Can I outplay the other player? Make the choices that keep me alive, by either escaping, or engaging and taking the enemy down? Wastelands my be without zombies, but from what I hear, everyone has a gun, and fairly well setup kits (from what I hear). It's missing the variable of the situations. I could be cornered in a factory with only a hatchet and outnumbered. I could be rolling with an sniper gun and get popped by a guy with a makorov. I'm not going to get those unique situations in wasteland. Maybe the guy I'm stalking gives me the slip and I lose him. Maybe my error in judgement agro a swarm of zombies and I trap myself in a house and I have to blast out of there. Wasteland doesn't have that dynamic to my knowledge. -
it is simply the same as the tents and vehicles work in DAYZ...the same or a similar (container) script could be attached to everything like waste bins, desks, suitcases, chests... whatever..so should be not a real problem. btw this has been suggested and discussed before but not in its own thread :) good idea anyway

ok, in the editor get the buildings from the "vehicles" sections on the right hand top list. I'm guessing you've been using the "objects"? Get those add ons I linked. Put them in your dayz folder just as you would any other mod. i.e. Program files/Steam/steamapps/common/arma 2 operation arrowhead The add ons should be in the same place as your @dayz folder. I use dayz commander to load and play dayz so in dayz commander under the "game launch options" you'll want to add: -mod=dayztaviana;@Jon_EditorUpdate;@OA_Editor then press "Launch Dayz Now" button. Then edit as you normally do but again, most buildiings will be under the "vehicles" section of the editor Hope this helps.
-
I couldn't find a way to just reset the vehicles. I just started a new database.
-
Are you using the arma II in game editor? This is a good basic tut on adding stuff. Get the additional add ons for other buildings and they show up in the "vehicles" section not objects: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=5932 http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=11668 Firestations and markets are there you just have to find them in the lists.

is dayz 100% PvP on the long term?
intensity replied to _Anubis_ (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Make challenges for yourself or create achievements to keep yourself occupied. Maybe join a random server with a decent amount of people, and survive as long as you can without storing stuff in tents, and vehicles (Nomad style). Until the standalone comes out, there is very limited since this is just a mod. -
how to handle property - the issue when being offline
ImageCtrl replied to joe_mcentire's topic in Suggestions
Bases are no "tiny hussein-esque holes in the earth". This is bigger I believe. I believe all want it bigger. Think most of us want no "global inventory" and want be scared in loosing of something or all. Hard to discuss without knowing what rocket wants. Want share some options. NPC´s are ok, when they are offline players. vehicles, tents Same rules like always. Tents works like cars. (no owner needed. Find them, loot them, grap them or destroy them) team bases (hypothetical) First ownership is the guy starting the base. Team bases are the same rules like no team bases. All depends on trust like outside. Ownership get lost when you die. The guy who have atm most equipment brought in the base get ownership. Ownership get lost when someone get 10x more equipment in the base than owner. This guy get ownership. Bases need recourses always from outside. Recourses/equipment can get broken by using them. Recourses/equipment have nothing to do with ownership. (Recourses/equipment have owners, must not be owner of the base) Owner can give away ownership for rooms. Same rules for rooms like bases. When you are in your base you have options what "profession" you are doing today ("profesions" like guard, medic, electrician and so on) and how you act. (profesions give you the skill to use "equipment" in the base) They act like this when you are offline in the base also. (you set them how to act) Nothing is save in the base, months of work can be destroyed. All items could be stolen/destroyd if your settings how to act are stupid (noob) or risky (expand base to fast). Other players can "work professions" in your base. (you set guard, medic, electrician and so on to "available" or give the "work profesions" someone directly) Offline "work professions" are always friendly to base. Other players can "sabotage" your base. Sabotage (destroy something / steal as many avatar can carry, get this way maybe ownership) influenced only the base not players. "Base owner" "work professions" offline / can get only knocked out and the better strategy / equipment wins (Equipment give you "the skill" to do something.) The dead of someone is only possibel when two players are online. "sabotage" possible by "work professions" and from outside. Caught "sabotage" never get access to benefits from this base again. Other players can "raid" the base. (destroy up to 100%, depens on explosiv items / steal as many avatar and cars can carry including owner vehicels, get this way maybe ownership) They win the "raid" when online and offline players all loosed. "Base owner" "work professions" online / normal pvp fight. "Base owner" "work professions" offline / can get only knocked out and the better equipment wins (weapons/bullet-proof vest and so on). Attacker get broken bones/damage/knockout/loose all equiped items involved in the raid (cars/weapons/clothing and so on) and never get access to benefits from this base again if he is loosing. A "raid" can only started from outside. Online "work professions" can "sabotage" at the same time and follow the rules of "sabotage". Other players can "get help" in the base. (never get caught "sabotage" "raid" in this base) Change items, get medic, get cars repaired and so on. (All dependent on owner settings and equipment. Equipment give you "the skill" to do something.) -
