  1. Recruitment status: Open Recruitment is now at Wave 4! Recruitment opened at 9pm AEST on the 28/12/12, please fill out a prelim application, even if you have already done so in a previous wave. Please download the OFFICIAL 97ADU Member's Handbook for highly detailed information: http://www.fileden.c...andbook 1.5.doc The 97th ANZAC Dental Unit is now recruiting! We are a group of like-minded players who believe in playing DayZ like it was meant to be played, for fun. Not just going around blasting fresh spawns in Cherno for their chemlights. We have both our own DayZ server and Teamspeak server, as well as approximately 32 of the best players down under, across the Tasman, and around the world. Our members are Primarily Australians and New Zealanders, but we take in members from all different countries. Still interested? Please continue reading as I describe in more depth the recruitment process and whether or not our organisation is for you. The recruitment process After filling out a preliminary recruitment application (detailed below), candidates that are viable for recruitment will be contacted via PM and a voice interview will be arranged. We will then ask you a series of questions that will be used to determine if you are a suitable fit into the ADU's ranks. We usually take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours to reach a decision after the interview, and you will be the first to be notified if your application has been accepted or declined over a communication network of choice (Our Teamspeak server, forum PM, email, smoke signals etc.). If you make it this far, you will be fixed with the 'recruit' rank on our Teamspeak, which is basically a probationary phase, of which it is possible to fail. It lasts from anywhere between 1 - 3 weeks, depending on your performance and how trustworthy you prove. From here, recruits are then promoted to full members of the 97ADU. Requirements High maturity levels. (Having a joke is fine, but you need to know when to stop) A working microphone. Teamspeak 3 Being a reasonable person. If somone asks you to come pick them up in a car you're driving, dont just say no and drive off. Sense of humor. About us Allow me to get one thing clear. We are not a bandit organisation, quite the opposite. So if you enjoy activities such as sniping fresh spawns in Elektro, then this clan isn't for you. We are out to have fun and to lend a hand, however if we come under fire, then we have no qualms about shooting to kill. We all have a serious side, but when it comes down to it, we are all out to have fun, so remember that. Rules and Consequences We do NOT tolerate: The deliberate shooting of unarmed survivors. Stealing or deliberate dispossession of ADU equipment and/or vehicles (we share equipment, so if you need weapons/ammo, just ask!) Associating with a known bandit organisation. Disrespect against fellow ADU members regardless of their rank or organisation, this includes racist/sexist remarks etc. Hacking in any way, shape or form. Consequences Breaking any rules listed above will compromise your position within the 97ADU. The repercussions depend upon the severity of the infringement. Offenses such as hacking result in immediate expulsion, whilst others may result in a warning and/or being placed on probation. Again, If you are interested or have any questions at all, feel free to send me a PM or post here and I will get back to you ASAP. What to put in your post/PM: (Preliminary Recruit Application) - What name you go by in game? - Do you have a working mic? - How did you hear about us? -What is your age (note: we do not have an age restriction, only a maturity restriction, so be truthful please) - Do you have Teamspeak? - What are your best qualities that you think would benefit the 97ADU? - How long have you been playing DayZ? - Are you associated with any other clans? Thank you for your interest. -Doug 97ADU officer of external affairs & Recruitment

    Hacker Harlem Shake

I knew that the hackers could make you turn into animals and spawn in weapons and vehicles, but since when can they create such glorious things as the Buscopter or make everyone in the server do the Harlem Shake? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiOHpCKs1mc&feature=youtu.be

New to DayZ, needs so help on starting?

First, you need to get used to how the zombies detect your presence. When in doubt, go prone. Your first order of business should be to find a hatchet. Afterwards, search around for a firearm (for use against players). You will likely find a makarov as your first gun. Don't use it to try and kill players. It's almost useless unless you are attacking a bambi or you land a lucky headshot. You'll want to swap it out for a better side arm the moment you find one. Use the following site to learn building loot tables and locations: http://dayzdb.com/map and make sure you enter towns through covered vectors (i.e. don't run across an open field and into Cherno during the middle of the night while holding a flare). Be smart. After you gain an initial footing, you'll want to find a water bottle and basic wilderness survival gear (knife for gutting animals, matches for lighting fires, and a map/compass). The key thing to remember is that you need to be patient and take things slow and THINK. Once you have all your basics covered you can begin to head north and hit up towns along the way. After that it's entirely up to you on how you play. If you want to start a campsite at which you can store gear, you can find a tent and setup shop in the woods. If you want to become a nomadic homicidal maniac, you can do that as well.Just remember, prioritize loot and don't get too greedy. Having a backup gun can be great, but you can only actually use one gun at a time. If you find yourself not using the AS50 you can't ever see to find ammo for, you might want to consider dropping it for a more utilitarian backup or stop using a backup primary altogether. The best loot comes from the barracks at NWA, but it takes a while to get there on foot and it's almost always occupied by unsavory characters. Good loot also comes from helicopter crash sites but those are unreliable as they are, hence the name, random. Aside from game play tips, I would recommend playing on a private whitelist server that run the DayZ anti-hax addon and have active admins + an active community. It may be true that you lose the server transience you have when you play on public servers but it's generally more than worth it. Some of the reasons include: prompt handling of combat loggers, reduced number of hacking incidents, usually some basic form of backup system which can be used to rollback the server's player data in the event of a serious problem, and a familiar/consistent community with which to play. And the most important tip rule of all: you WILL die eventually. Embrace it or scorn it. But at the very least accept it as a fact of life. Edit: Camps and vehicles are notoriously unreliable in public servers due to an increased number of factors. Some script kiddies make use of external map programs to find your campsites or vehicles; some players can get lucky when swapping servers and happen to stumble upon your sex dungeons of ecstasy; and other times a simple lack of any reliable data backup system can make it impossible to rollback the server in the event of a massive glitch. Also, a lot of players in public servers use "spawned" gear (i.e. they are cheating fucks) and can easily replace any losses you incur on them by causing them to die. I hate pubs with a bleeding passion (in their current state).

This server is very balanced. Hard to find powerful weapons, plentiful vehicles (mostly broken down for repair), Night vision and good inventory at spawn. Day/Night. zero connection problems.

New server admin looking for some help

Routine DB backups and attentive pruning of script execution logs (to catch and mitigate damage that has already been done) can go a long way in thwarting any real damage from being dealt by the script kiddies that parade around as wannabe hackers. Make sure you sync up with the official DayZ ban list and utilize the DayZ anti-hax addon to catch basic server attacks (i.e. vehicle/item spawning, etc.). I would recommend going in the direction of a whitelist only private server but that's just my own personal opinion. The reason for this is because you can have fine-grained control over who enters your server and thus manage the type and quality of the community you are trying to grow. You can also more effectively deal with combat logging and you don't have to worry about conforming to the standard public server rules (if you think, for example, that the number of vehicles in vanilla DayZ is rather sparse or if, in another example, you wish to ban the AS50 as you find it to be rather overpowered or out of place). The downside is that some people are too lazy to go through the process of joining a whitelist only private community but at the same time, the point could also be made that you probably wouldn't want non-proactive players leaching server slots anyways.
  10. Looking forward to seeing you there, we have about 10 on at the moment, couple of groups, and no cheaters as I'm monitoring it very closely with co-admins. We are literally a fresh server, so many vehicles/military loot yet to be found; Some examples of balanced custom vehicles added Police Car HMMV_DZ (Humvee, Camo) Suv (Special Edition) Currently, no planes, 3 choppers and none of them have been found or repaired as of yet. SA: 'No advanced weapons'

They keep them in the Arms room, along with the rest of the weapons.. Duh. Obviously not exposed as a motorpool with a hundred vehicles. Oh, and good luck finding ammunition for that 25mm; that won't be in the Arms room. Not every unit will have an M107 in their Arms room, only slotted for specific units. Also, you won't find ammunition in an arms room either.

    SA: 'No advanced weapons'

The problem is gonna be balance. Sure, it's gonna be awesome fun (sarcasm) running around with melee weapons, but that is just gonna make firearms completely overpowered, especially if you come up against a semi organised group who all have guns themselves. Can you imagine groups mowing people down around the south who can't find a gun between them? I fancy my chances with the Dobryy/Cherno campers 100% over that. At least defending yourself is easier if you have as much chance of finding a firearm as a clan/buddies who are constantly looting everything. I play 70% lonewolf and 30% with 1-2 players so I see it from both perspectives. People cry now about being shot when unarmed, but it's gonna be 20 times worse when firearms are scarce. Also, inb4 ''the SA will force players to work together so less shooting on sight'', not gonna happen. PvP will still be as rife, if not worse considering by the sounds of it essentials will be rarer than the mod and I will actually PvP more on the SA as medicines/food/clothing/firearms/ammo will be more valuable. I will actively kill and betray a majority of people I see to provide myself with valuable supplies and my friends. And I'm a neutral in game, I've killed for no reason and on the flip side i've given new spawns a pistol and spare supplies or lifts. The SA will give people more of a reason to kill on sight, no doubt about that. RE vehicles, if it's more of an effort to maintain and find them, i can see plenty people being disillusioned with the game. It's bad enough grinding for one wheel that fits all, but trolling will be through the roof if just getting a vehicle in working condition will take real life hours. Sure they're a awesome end game to work for but I wouldn't dare drive anywhere for fear of one or two shots or bad collision detection forcing another few hours grinding again, Also I don't get the logic of ''remove as50'', when in reality a DMR or m40a3 would kill you just as quickly. It's back to the age old argument of snipers and being one shots and people being butthurt, been that way over countless games for years. All the M24/CZ/SVD does on the mod is gives people a chance to alt f4 from my experience. Even with ''point and click'' mechanics compared to ACE etc I feel if you can hit a moving target on vanilla arma engine from 600+m you should be rewarded with a kill. Then you're down the route of ''remove snipers'', then remove automatics, then remove everything apart from pistols till we're all running around with planks of wood.

Banned from DE888 for no reason

Me and my friend were playing some hours on it and we found the military base with tons of vehicles n sh*t. After flying around the admin shot at us some thousand rockets. We survived and tried to kill him so he banned us ;) and not only us 2. he banned about 10 people to be sure that he banned us xD
  15. Battleye script restriction #253. Me and my friends started up a server recently and we've been adding scripts into the server, all was fine, until we added a script that allows us to load cargo, pick up vehicles with helicopters and store shizzle. Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Crooked Admins!?!? Say it aint so...

About two weeks ago I found a base with 4 cars and another hidden a little bit away. I blew them all up. About a week ago I found a base that had 3 cars and a heli. I blew up all 3 of the cars and crashed the heli, I meant to steal the heli but crashed it instead, it was a windy day. Don't get attached to vehicles and gear. Some people get their kicks out of ruining your day.

    Worst way to die?

This led to one of my best survival stories - an outhouse leg break. I was all geared up, ghillie, coyote pack, nv, rangefinders, CCO-SD, m9SD. I was on a fairly new public server - many of the vehicles were in their default spawn, so I thought I'd head to Skalitsky Island and look for the Huey. A big fishboat was docked off Cap Golova, I stowed my backpack, and CCO-SD in the blue betty van I'd found earlier, hopped in the boat and headed out. I landed on the opposite side of the island from the docks, went up to the house on the hill and found no heli. While there, I thought I'd check for some loot... opened the outhouse door and *snap*. And me with no morphine. So, I crawl down to the buildings by the docks and search the houses for morphine... nada. I wasted all my m9SD ammo trying to take out the zombies that were aggroing on me and crawl away from the rest. I managed to crawl back to the boat, get in and head back to Electro, crawl to a hospital and get morphine. I was really lucky I didn't get sniped and that when I got back to my van, my stuff was still there... I learned to carry morphine with me at all times. Worst way to die... for me has to be slow blood loss without a bandage... because, as always seems to be the case, the one thing you need is the one thing that doesn't spawn.

    SA: 'No advanced weapons'

I want one shot kill weapons gone because I am tired of this DayZ easy mode bullshit. Also, anything that makes this game less appealing to the COD deathmatchers, I am all for. This mod needs a serious return to its roots. It has been completely highjacked by a bunch of kids who think sniping is the best thing ever. Get rid of the easy vehicles, make ammo EXTREMELY rare, don't allow instant respawns. Dying needs to hurt. I think a 30 minute respawn timer would help. Don't like where you spawned? Tough shit, man it out or go play something else. Basically make this game difficult again so that people have to make important life or death decisions. I would love to hear all the crying from these wannabe alpha male tryhards when the game takes away all the easymode crutches they have gotten used to.
  20. Okay so you can make a little campfire to cook food and keep warm but in a zombie survival situation fire has so many more uses that so far have been left out of DayZ. While I imagine its pretty fiddly to put in the mod, the dev team has already astounded us with their ability and I'm sure they could pull it off. Here are a few ways fire could enhanced in into DayZ. I'll start with the bread and butter survival stuff and then move on to harnessing fire as a lethal force. You don't need a hatchet to make a campfire! And you can't light logs with matches! I think the campfire mechanic should be expanded a bit: You can either gather sticks or cut wood. Gathering sticks means you can make a small campfire that provides some warmth and you can cook a raw meat for every bundle of sticks you load the fire up with. In wind or rain you may need several attempts to get a fire going, using up more matches. Cutting wood means you can build on this smaller campfire (i.e. use the sticks as kindling) to make a campfire which will cook lots of raw meat and provide lots of warmth. You could have completely new mechanic, which is sorely missing, and that's a gas stove. Much more reliable, stealthy and efficient than a wood fire. Virtually no smoke. Stove fits on the tool-belt, gas canister (comes in small and large) is a magazine (and, incidentally, can explode if put in fire or can be used to make IEDs). Also would like to see some of the much bigger canisters/refill canisters would are used to make much bigger IEDs and refill smaller canisters. Matches/lighter still needed to light the stove. Matches should be limited. I've noticed the lovely little green bar running down the side of magazines in the inventory, wondered if this could be applied to a box of matches on the tool-belt. Maybe 50 matches in a small box and 100 in a large one. Also add lighters. Cheapo crappy plastic lighters: found everywhere, 50 lights, not windproof. Zippo lighter: more rare, 100 lights, more windproof. Mil-grade jet lighter: rare, 150 lights, fully windproof. Fire attracts zombies! So be careful if you're lighting a campfire. Big campfires have a bigger attraction range and create more smoke. Fire creates smoke! And not just the piddly little plume that we currently see coming out of a camp fire. If the wind is up then it'll blow sideways but on a still day it will rise high into the air, giving away your position to bandits. However campfires should create relatively little smoke compared to burning cars or tires. Smoke could be lethal, and a symptom that your character is suffering from smoke inhalation would be violent coughing. Got a sniper holed up on the top floor of an apartment block? Just pile a few car tires at the bottom, douse them in petrol and smoke him out. On that note wind is also missing. I've noticed the dev team are currently playing with weather and how it affects hearing and visual. Wind could obscure zombie hearing but quicken heat loss. The sound of the wind howling would greatly add to the ambiance. The Jerry Can mechanic should be greatly enhanced. Firstly make it a magazine, holding 20 rounds (litres). Then it can be filled with water and taken back to base and 20 1 litre water bottles can be filled from it. Tada - another way to promote teamplay. Alternatively, you could top up a car with only 10 litres of fuel and save the rest. Or you could use it in the way I will describe next: Petrol is flammable! Jerry cans should be a lot more useful than just for refueling vehicles and filling water bottles up. It would be great if you could douse the ground in petrol and then set it on fire, creating a barrier which would set fire to zombies, start forest fires, damage vehicles or even set buildings alight. The douse mechanic could work as follows: you can drop a maximum of 20 small 1 litre puddles from a full jerry can of petrol so you can make the fire barrier the shape and size you want it. You then light one puddle and puddles touching it will catch and the fire will spread. Other objects should be flammable! Firstly let me start off by saying there's a difference between car wheels and spare tires. Spare tires should take up less weight and space than wheels and should fix flat tires while car wheels should repair completely shredded wheels but not tires. Okay so tires should be flammable. And they should create a hell of a lot of smoke. A car tire and petrol fire barrier would be far deadlier than just a petrol one, but a lot less subtle! Buildings could be flammable. Maybe not all of them and maybe not non-enterable buildings. When I say this I can't help but think of the last episode of series 2 of the Walking Dead when Rick and Carl douse the barn in petrol and set it on fire to kill and distract some of the zombies. A few ways of setting barns on fire: -Douse it in petrol -Set hay on fire (hay-bales should be also flammable and a brilliant way to distract zombies from an area) -Throw a molotov at it. And that brings me onto Molotovs. And more importantly, a crafting mechanic, which I'm sure has been discussed elsewhere in the suggestions. A few fire-related crafting ideas: -Bottle + Petrol (filled from Jerry Can ofc! :D) + Rag (filled from Jerry Can ofc! :D) = Molotov -IEDs! A mixture of gas canisters, nails, grenades, dynamite, circuitry, car/motorbike batteries, petrol jerry cans, ammonium nitrate, rocket sparkers and remote devices could make a variety of IEDs. FIRE SHOULD BE LETHAL! You should be able suffer from fire. If you're especially unlucky you might catch fire and have to roll to extinguish the flames. Zombies should also be susceptible to fire. They'll frenzy for a few seconds and then die. ***I once did a suggestion about zombie herds. The idea being there are maybe a dozen herds of varying sizes (10-100) that wander around the map and can be attracted to certain stimuli if they are in range such as gunshots, FIRE, SMOKE, vehicles etc. It would be important that the don't just suddenly aggro and run like crazy but rather wander towards the stimulus to investigate it and then if they discover a player then, well, all hell breaks loose. This also brings me on to another suggestion which is a change in zombie aggro behaviour. It is unrealistic that zombies suddenly run like crazy on hearing a gunshot. At the same time the aggro range for zombies from gunshots is also unrealistically small. A sniper rifle shot would be heard by zombies for hundreds of metres. What I suggest is zombies at closer range will walk towards the sound of the shot and then on visual/hearing confirmation of the player himself would aggro. This would encourage players to fire from cover from zombies, or quickly move on after firing a shot as zombies will be inbound on their previous location. At longer range only a few zombies might investigate. And there is always the risk of drawing a herd, eek! Other thread about herds: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=3829

Crooked Admins!?!? Say it aint so...

So, you were hoarding vehicles? Some admin frown on that. Either way , what they did wasn't the right way to handle it. "IF" I had a problem with that I would have left you a Ural and Huey at least.

Crooked Admins!?!? Say it aint so...

The admin might be a complete gobbler, but do you really need four Urals? I personally don't care what players do, but have seen camps with 6 or more vehicles raided and destroyed along with an enourmous amount of gear. The player that made the camp usually comes back in a fit of rage.

Doing this does cause the Arma 2 command menu to pop up on the left hand side. Simply right click and you will escape out of this menu. The A.I. System Explained: The A.I. System in a nutshell - Basically the entire map of Chernarus is layed out on a 6x6 grid. Each Grid is currently 2500 meters by 2500 meters square. Within Each square there is a random chance of spawning random amounts of the 3 types of A.I.. Bandits will shoot on sight of anything and everything no matter what. The soldiers will shoot at everything but Friendly non-bandit survivors. The survivor groups will shoot at everything but friendly non-bandit players as well. Each group is randomly selected with weapons out of a selection that is implemented in the script. No more then 4 of each group can spawn in one location, but if 1 bandit group spawns in one location and roams 1000 meters within the same grid to where another group of bandits spawn then they will group together. Therefore you could run up on anywhere between 1-12 bandits, soldiers, or survivors at one time, Although this is very rare. The A.I. system is also composed to affect Humanity Levels when killed. Bandits will give 100 humanity for each kill, Soldiers and Survivors will decease Humanity by 600 each time they are killed. This is to turn players away from killing good A.I. to loot their weapons if they are concerned about their humanity status. Also There is Bandit groups that are static spawns, not limited to the Grid setup that Roam the entire map. These bandit groups are hard to kill but reward players with the chance of higher grade weapons, higher grade pistols, and also chance of dropping NVGs, rangefinders, etc.... They look exactly like grid bandits that spawn in so there is no way of distinguishing them. The Heli's flying along the coastlines are soldier and survivor A.I. that are friendly to non-bandit players. If they are shot down and you attempt to enter the Heli, it will despawn to prevent easy access to a helicopter. Bandit Helicopters are not friendly and are located at the NWAF and the NEAF Currently have a light population around 10-20 looking to add more regulars to the group. Profanity is a prt of life that you cannot escape... However, excessive amounts are not needed, So don't have 3 expletive words for ever other word, No Racism, Excessive Profanity, or Sexism, as i'm sure there are others on the server that don't care to see how many cuss words you can use in a single sentence. Do Not ask an Admin to Abuse his power and help you. This means don't ask an admin to replace your gear, tell you your location on the map, or help you in anyway that pertains to actually playing the game. Admins are here to help with questions, issues or bugs, and Hackers. Do Not whine about being killed by another player. This is a survival game, and dieing is a part of it. Whether it be by Zombies, A.I. Bandits, or Players. You will die at some point and PvP is allowed in this aspect. Hackers are not welcome here. If caught cheating you will be Banned, No questions asked. If you feel you've been banned for no reason, visit the zero-fps.com forums for a ban appeal if you wish. Have Fun, DayZ is a fun game to play and All are welcome that follow the rules.

    Some SA ideas

I'm still waiting for Arma2 package to download and install so IDK if this is already in the game but.... It would be cool if everything that moves in the game left a trail. The trail would be more pronounced and last longer based on the speed, weight, size of the object. (players, zombies, vehicles)
  25. Whats up, I'm some sort of a veteran of DayZ player that is just horrible at this game, especially alone, and since I've decided to come back to the wonderful Arma 2 mod I need some people to BRO DOWN with and help me shoot some zambies. I usually like to play on servers that are like "official" servers (meaning low vehicles and gun spawns) so I get the whole DayZ experience but I'm not adverse to just going to a 500+ vehicle pvp fest as long as we can find fun. I also like to keep the group smallish art most 5 or 6 people but most of all i want to keep it fun and try and see where the game takes me. So if your interested send me a message on Steam (Crosby627) or Skype (Crosby627) or maybe just go outside and yell Crosby627 real loud and you'll more than likely find me. Peace.
