Community Dying? Too many hackers?
GoodGrief replied to Pauijay's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As I saw it, people only got interested in non-hive servers, be they other maps or not, as a means of escaping the hackers. One of the original things about this mod was the hive, taking loot from server to server etc. Private servers blow, in that you could build up a good character and then are only able to get a decent game if and when that server has players.Without any fucking shadow of a doubt, the main reason the majority of players quit is not boarding school or different maps, but hackers. Hackers that teleport and instantly kill. Sure there are other serious problems like logging, ghosting and duping. Those were also serious factors in diminishing the playerbase but at that time, before grief-hacking became widespread, there were 200,000 more players at least. Hacking finished it.Roll the fuck on, standalone! -
40 man HFB server w/ no ping limit and admins monitoring it on a regular basis. We dont condone hacking, alt f4'ing, or ghosting. We dont horde vehicless (we are operated by a clan of 8 active memers). Check out our website at http://www.indecisivebastards.com/ and get the link to our TS. Cya soon guys! Also our server is 12 hours behind EST so its daylight during prime time hours.

Standalone: Outside Base Construction (Very Detailed)
Toilet replied to MasterZ's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I liked your zone idea to remedy ghosting. Of course shit could be balanced and tweaked, but overall great approach to an idea that has been beaten to death over the months. Enjoyed the read too. Well done. -
The thing stopping you from doing it is yourself and your ability to understand that these activities are ruining a game that has the ability to be great. Killing players using tactics like ghosting is causing people to horde weapons and equipment, making it so when they die, they don't even need to play anymore. They just run back to their tent with all their stored up weapons and they go off to kill more people. And using tactics like server hopping and loot cycling are hyper-saturating the game with all of the best stuff, making everything becoming less valuable and causing extreme inflation. Obviously you would hesitate to stop, since you clearly stated your disdain for rules in general. And I don't believe for a second you have never touched a hacked item, since you clearly stated in your above post how you think hacking is okay. People "like me" usually know what we're talking about. I don't just pull shit out of my ass. I already know what the rules are, and while, like I have stated earlier, I don't know for sure of an official rule, but I can, based on the fact that I have a brain, extrapolate from the other rules what Rocket's stance on this tactic would be. He is completely against any kind of exploiting and hacking, so why would this be any different. You should also remember that there is a standalone in development, so I'm sure they are spending most, if not all of their time on that. I have heard them say that the ArmA mod will take a backseat to the standalone. And game development is nothing like writing a paper. Do you expect them to never release an alpha and a beta just because it's not 100% developed? That would be stupid. They need to get it out so they can get the players to test it for bugs and get their opinions on different features. Demanding that they hurry along with developing the game is just arrogant and rude. Yes, they should be told if they are working slow that we want it out faster, but to demand they drop everything in their lives to develop this game just for you? Just, no.

oh really? thing is, nothing, absolutely nothing is stopping me from ghosting, loot cycling, using thermal scopes, hoarding loot, the only thing are players rabbling and rabbling about what is right on this game based off on their own opinions. my post was merely an hyperbollic satire, say Rocket actually despises these kinds of activities such as loot cycling (the topic at hand), I would not hesitate to stop doing it, just like I have never taken a hacked weapon, since I know for a fact that is not condoned. But people like you saying things like "you are despicable for doing this" "you should feel bad for doing this" with no idea on what the official stance is, are a cancer to most games out there. oh and btw, just because the devs provided this game to us doesn't mean we can't demand a minumum amount of polish and work, as of this moment now I've spent 48 hours writing an assignment that I have no intention of handing to my teacher, instead of saying "yeah it's a preliminary version (read: alpha)" and giving it to him, I will work for another 48 hours to polish it, word it better and eventually have an up to standards assignment with which I expext to get a high mark with.

DayZ is a joke in its current form
GoodGrief replied to seanmcloughlin7's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Before the teleporting/instant killing hacking began, sure what you say made some sense in terms of challenge. I certainly enjoyed that more. But since the hacking, there is just no point marching north to get hacked. So that's nobody's fault really but the hackers.Nevertheless, you have it wrong to compare this to an MMO or any game. It's not about honor, character, prestige or "fair game". It's actually a sim which tries to be as realistic as possible. Sure as hell, there is no honor, prestige or fair game in RL combat or survival. It's a dirty, gritty business. I shoot new-spawns in part because, like mentioned, the essence of the game was destroyed by hackers, so I am on the coast. I also do it because, really, how often do you see any geared player running around buildings unless they hacked that shit in? They are all combat logging, ghosting and already setup in a perfect place by the time they join a busy server. That's another problem of the mechanics of the game I guess. -
This is called ghosting and only noobs need to do it.

The FHC private hive cluster is currently looking for more players to populate our servers. We are running a true cluster for each map, meaning you can switch back and forth between any server on our hive running the same same map without losing your gear. We found this was the best compromise when it came to players in different timezones. Currently we are running 4 servers, 2 for lingor and 2 for chernarus, and will expand up to more servers and maps as needed. If you would like more information refer to our thread here: http://failheap-chal...HC-Private-Hive CURRENT SERVERS: FHC01 (v1.7.2.6/build 97448) [VETERAN|3DP:ON|CH:OFF][GMT] - hosted by FEARLESSdot.com Map: Chernarus Timezone: GMT IP: 74.110.193.53:5000 FHC02 (v1.7.2.6/build 97448) [VETERAN|3DP:ON|CH:OFF][GMT-12] - hosted by FEARLESSdot.com Map: Chernarus Timezone: GMT-12 IP: 74.110.193.53:5100 FHC03 (v.34/build 97448) [VETERAN|3DP:ON|CH:OFF][GMT] - hosted by FEARLESSdot.com Map: Lingor Timezone: GMT IP: 74.110.193.53:5200 FHC04 (v.34/build 97448) [VETERAN|3DP:ON|CH:OFF][GMT-12] - hosted by FEARLESSdot.com Map: Lingor Timezone: GMT-12 IP: 74.110.193.53:5300 RULES: 1. No alt+F4 during combat. 2. No Ghosting 3. No Duping 4. No hacking/scripting of any type 5. All decisions by a server admin are final There will be no warnings of any kind(unless someone is feeling very gracious). By connecting to the server you are agreeing to comply with these rules. MORE INFORMATION: About the private hives: Each map has its own hive instance that is shared between the 2 servers. This way you can choose your day/night cycle without me setting up an "always daytime" server. It also spreads people from different timezones out a bit, so it is less likely you get your shit stolen form someone who is on the other side of the world while you are asleep. Clustering the servers also allows me to scale out instead of scaling up, so if we feel the need to setup more servers to accommodate more users we can easily. About the databases: The databases are hosted on a separate server from the hive servers, allowing for better performance and redundancy. I am taking backups of the databases every hour in case of a failure, or so if the server gets hacked we can quickly restore to the most recent copy that worked. I will be deleting back-ups every 48 hours. If you report something after the backup is gone you are SOL. Cheating/Hacking/ghosting/etc: Please report any illicit behavior as soon as possible. The sooner you report the sooner we can get the issue resolved. Automatic Restarts: The servers restart every 4 hours. You will be warned 30 minutes before the restart and every 5 minutes thereafter. Please log off at least 5 minutes before the restart so that you do not lose any progress/gear/etc. The admin team is not responsible for anything that happens due to a restart. Bugs: Please report bugs as soon as possible so they can be resolved in a timely manner.

Wow, a lot of personal attacks there Sandwichx, not a lot of backing to your argument. First off, I'd love to see a link to Rocket's DayZ rulebook, cause so far every time I've heard him talk about DayZ, he wants us to use the tools available to us and make our own experience. Now, hacking/scripting in a multilayer game is a pretty obvious broken rule, hence the existence of battleye (however ineffective it may be). Combat logging and ghosting is a direct multiplayer issue, meaning it's ruining the experience for another in a way not intended by game design. Loot dumping on the other hand, while potentially leading to unfair multiplayer, is still a direct single player exploit. The intentions can be vastly different. You can do it to get the best gear for PvP. You can go on a empty server and hoard all the weapons just to feel good. You can do it to get essentials when you've been extremely unlucky due to other quirks in the game. It's not as clean cut as scripting or combat exploits. Who knows, maybe they already removed this mechanic in standalone, but for right now, I don't see the problem with it considering the risk that is coupled with it, just to roll the dice of fate again. If you need a realistic comparison, consider it rummaging through the trash to find what wasn't on the surface. There are honestly bigger problems to deal with. But again, if you can dig up Rocket's rules, I'll be happy to change my mind.

Firstly, I mainly only do this when desperate for water or bandages and have been especially unlucky. 'Farming' is not much fun and it spoils immersion, and I'd rather be doing some sort of mission. In fact if you're farming a building, you're putting yourself in greater danger of being spotted and shot, so it's not necessarily an 'easy option'. Secondly, how do you determine the amount of time that is acceptable before going back to a building to see if there is anything new there? Are you suggesting that no-one should ever go back into a building during the same server session? If you arbitrarily say something like one or two hours, aren't you doing the same thing as me except just waiting longer? Why would you go back into a building at all unless you were hoping for new spawn items? What difference does it make if it's you who clears a building or someone else? Lastly, doing a bit of farming is in the same category as pitching your tent underwater. It doesn't affect anyone else directly, unlike ghosting and combat logging. If you were meant to just accept whatever was in a building when you got there, then the game would be designed that way - loot wouldn't respawn at all until a server restart (like the heli crash sites).

Combat logging and ghosting f**kin disgusts me to be quite honest.

It's like this: US servers are hacked day in day out. if there's one player on a server, a hacker will eventually come in to troll/kill him (no one dare deny since this has happened to me). on european and other servers it isn't as bad, almost non existent actually. but yeah, like a post said, if it's a high population server odds are a hacker will drop by to insta kill all. my advice is to find a private hive server that's well monitored. I'm on http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/75927-dayz-byrgesen-gaming-community-blisshive-forums-3-servers-2xchernaruslingor-true-hardcore-settings-password/ no bug abuse, no ghosting, if hacking happens the hacker will be banned within the hour (max) and the server rolled to a time before all of the hacker's damage. was done.

US 2828 banned 3 players for hacked items
DrainBamaged replied to Waingro (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
SERVER HOSTING RULES HERE: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/62195-server-hosting-rules/ 11. As a server admin you must not: You are not permitted to ban players for killing yourself or clan members. You are not permitted to shutdown your server when your killed. You are not permitted to shutdown your server when you lose a vehicle. You are not permitted to kick or ban for smacktalk. You are not permitted to ban for suspected cheats or exploits of a non-server-disruptive nature, including but not limited to ghosting, unverified cheating, duping and similar, UNLESS you have solid evidence, IE logs.13. You are permitted to kick or ban for ongoing severe hacking that is affecting players in a server-disruptive way. All kick or ban actions must be reported in the forums under section http://dayzmod.com/f...heat-reporting/I think most admins and legitimate players would agree that hacked in weapons are both rampant and a severe issue. If I catch you on my servers with them you'll be warned. Ignore the warning and you'll be kicked. Come back with them and you'll be banned. (With the caveat that I will not, and do not, ban people without log evidence that you have items you shouldn't.) Finally, from the same page of server hosting rules that was linked in the first line of my post: "NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS OR WHAT SERVICE PROVIDER YOUR [sic] WITH THESE ARE THE RULES PLEASE ABIDE BY THEM." [All caps is Dante's writing, not mine.] I don't care how many times someone says, "... but Rocket said ...," these ARE the rules, and until they change the rules it doesn't matter what anyone says. Admins can, will, and do ban people for them. -

The only reason it's hard to kill these idiots on Dobry or the Cherno silos is because of combat logging and ghosting. The only time any of these snipers actually get a FRH on me is if I'm in a highly visible spot, stopped, and looting. If I'm moving I'll generally get away just fine while they pop off dozens of rounds at me. They're terrible shots. They aren't clever at all, because they use the same stupid spots all the time. They use AS50's and Ghillies as a crutch, since they need all the help they can get. I'm not mad when these guys kill me. Usually it takes them forever, and at that point I'm already laughing at their ineptitude. If the 15th shot is the one that hits me, it's luck and not skill. Luckily not all snipers are like this. It's just that the ones you hear about or see the effects of are the Elektro/Cherno campers. They aren't a fair representation of all snipers in the game. My 3 week old character died the other day. It happened because the other player outsmarted me. Fair kill, and I really hope he got the good stuff I was carrying. Looking back on it, I died because I overlooked something that should have been obvious, but apparently I got complacent. I would love to see the combat logging AS50 BushWookies live on medium/high pop servers without an AS50 or a Ghillie for several weeks, while actively searching for kills, and then actually looting them. They either can't, or won't. So anyone who kills them has my beans.

Back to topic: I understand that for a lot of people, the fun of this game lies in the thrill of PvP. But as far as I'm concerned, there's no thrill in being insta-killed by a ghillied-up sniper in the hills. I hate that sniper rifles are so easy to use and so damn effective in this game (I recently obtained a DMR and after spending only 30 minutes learning the ropes, I could lead a headshot on a sprinting zombie from 300m away - it simply should not be that easy), and that, thanks to hackers, the AS50 is so damn common on servers. For me, PvP is about someone in the distance who's after your equipment opening fire on you with an automatic weapon, you running and diving for the nearest cover, possibly wounded and making a snap decision - do I shoot back, or do I run and hide? For me, that's the essence of a survival game. I remember my days as a newbie, running around the coast looking for supplies. At first, my main cause of death was zombies as I didn't know how to deal with them, but after that, sniper bullets became my leading cause of death. Some of my most intense and fun showdowns with hordes of zombies and other players were abruptly ended by a sniper shot to the face. Someone sees you having fun and decides you don't deserve to have fun, so they shoot you. In my book, that's griefing. Yes, it did ruin my game experience for a while. I suspect that many new players still shake their heads as to why they keep getting instakilled on the south coast. Also, I don't consider 'ghosting' a cheat. It's an abuse of game mechanics, and a complete dick move, but it's not a cheat. As for playing on low pop servers, it's a necessity with all the snipers around.
-
ghosting is cheating, just like hoarding, disconnecting, tent duping, humanity farming, server hopping, playing on low population servers, loot cycling, vehicle repairing, water filling, animal hunting and pretty much everything that doesn't involve shooting and killing players in a deathmatch mode. at least that's the rabble rabble rabble I constantly hear on the dayz communities
-
how can something be described as "cheating" in a game with no rules, other than those coded into the game and its mechanics? ghosting is perfectly legit, so long as you're not using a hack. any sniper who sits around and doesn't check his 6 constantly for people sneaking up on him is an idiot, and deserves to get shot either by someone ghosting (which i agree, while not cheating, is a pretty dickish thing to do) or just being really sneaky. the flipside is that ghosting is a difficult thing to time right, and logging in leaves you potentially vulnerable for a few seconds. i wouldn't try it just to get a sniper.
-
We have regular firefights with other clans on our home server LU425 , server is admined by clan members , no Alt+F4 or ghosting but expect heavy resistance
-
I'm sorry but ghosting in behind someone is cheating and is not cool
-
Yea. I have to agree here. I deal with hackers mentally better then them folks that play one handed in the hills with a sniper rifle getting hard over head shots for not reason then to just cap a bitch. As of now half the hackers that have killed me have given me my shit back so...the only real grudge I hold is those ghosting bastards and guys the put one in people's dome then never go check the body.

Exile Clan on US 503 combat logging and cheating.
ChernoPTA replied to Jest8r's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Since you're going on at length about using other game profiles and what not I'll just leave this here. Amazing how we killed a Jester that wasn't you, but you're the only Jester in my player database, you're also the only one with a current Hive record on the private hive we use. Sure to be more though soon enough. Far as adversaries, we'd love some, that whole deal on the North Hill was really cool til you and your friend combat logged because you knew you were pinned. I let it slide because even though I state I ban combat loggers, we have been trying to give people a break so people would take up residence on the server and...yanno, be legitimate adversaries. Base building is part of what the game is about, working together as survivors to defend whats ours. We actually recruited a guy that came to the factory and laid down his weapons because he saw there were more of us than there were of him. The move was a simple tactical call, and as stated I managed the entire thing, you were not on the server, not as Jester, not on a different game profile either cause...as the DB log there shows you haven't used one on 503. So the whole situation of you seeing the V3S and "one other vehicle" heading west completely falls flat. Especially since there were 5 total vehicles on that run, and none of them were traveling together. The final total vehicle count was two UAZ's, the SUV, one Hilux Truck (that you had not destroyed) and the V3S. Some went completely off road, none traveled together, there was no point where you would have "observed" the vehicles together as you stated and, also, as stated, you were not on the server during the move. Had you been tagged on the server with the same GUID with a different name you'd be right there in the database. Overall this entire argument is rather pointless. You can red text my statements if you like and say "thats not me, it wasn't me", but you've been on and off 503 for well over a week and we've given you plenty of opportunities to be a legitimate adversary. Ghosting on 525 to get in position on 503 is enough for me to call it quits in regards to giving you further opportunities. There are no AS50_TWS's on 503, DayZ Anti-Hax 0.7 actually parses for non-standard weapons and removes them. BTW, so whatever that guy's added to your post is hogwash. You should know as well as anyone that we only have TWO AS50's, one that was in the V3S you stole, and now the other that we removed from the van you left behind the base when you took the truck. And they're just plain AS50's, we have a few M107's though...don't use them, but someone brought them in from a chopper crash. Oh and truck inventory....yes there were things removed from it. 4 sets of NVG's that were stored on the truck were no longer on it. 4 sets of NVGs were in the tents on 525. Including quite a few other items that were incredibly similar to our previous stockpile at the factory. So if it wasn't you hauling the gear out, perhaps someone got in there and stole the NVGs and just happened to take them to the EXACT same spot you took the V3S to somewhere in the 30 minutes between me logging off and you logging on. Oh and that Exlie clan isn't us, btw. Not sure why you even linked those. Kwark was a problem causer we had on 401, video evidence wasn't enough apparently, just got a lot of "wasn't me, that wasn't us" from that too. Only place I screwed up was with the christian clan that hit us, but we thought they had teleported in because of a screwy read on positional data in the RPT files, because they started out attacking from the hill, then suddenly there were people in the factory too, they ghosted in, legitimate on the public hive, but doesn't mean I like it, and its part of the reason we went private. -
Some people dont know what a coward is.
TheThinkTanker replied to Jeff the killer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hacking is cowardly. Alt-F4 is cowardly. Ghosting is cowardly. Running like a scared little dog with its tail between its legs is not cowardly. I do it to avoid killing anyone. Trusting someone regardless of the risk is not cowardly. I do it to avoid killing anyone. I do it because one good DayZ narrative experience is worth all the bad ones. But staying and fighting a fight you can't win? That doesn't make you brave. It makes you a bad tactical planner.
