    KoS, an examination

    The problem is people thinking there is a problem with KoS to begin with. Rockets vision on the mod is exactly this, people will do what they WANT to do. Not what HE or anyone else wants them to do. DayZ is a game in it's own in this manner and it's built on another game that follows this principle too. ArmA 2 doesn't force you to play a certain way, the map editor and scripting engine allows you do make whatever you want of it. (as long as the hardware and engine can keep up of course) Let's look at what DayZ actually is made of: The Core The ArmA 2 engine, featuring all the simulation necessary for a military simulator with ballistics, weather, day/night cycle, scripting engine and much more. Chernarus, the map provided by the ArmA 2 game. A 225km² area with varying terrain. Not a product of DayZ but a component available from ArmA 2. (And there are more maps available, including community made ones) The Mod On the above mentioned map you define a list of buildings where certain items may be created. The buildings object ID is all that is needed in this listing and from there the game will populate the particular building with items based on a weighted loot table. There is a certain chance items will be created and there is a certain chance that each item created will be of a certain type. In essence, you populate the map with items of various rarity and players will naturally go look for better items as they do in any game that has loot. This in it's own is a feature enough to keep players occupied for quite some time. Add enemies, in this case Zombies. Similar to items spawning, a certain number of Zeds are spawned in/near buildings where items may be present. The hardest part of DayZ development as these Zombies will shape the base difficulty of the mod in all aspects. Making them behave like Zombies and keep them from passing through walls and solid objects is hard enough. Adding to that, there is no highly developed AI for a Zombie entity and a simple animal AI has been borrowed and developed upon. ArmA 2 soldier AI is arguably quite a bit smarter but they cannot be used for this application for many reasons. Including performance. Add hunger, thirst, status effects and illness. Drive players to visit zombie infested places to gather food and drink as well as medical supplies. In the case of medical supplies, they are only available at the coast to ensure players occasionally need to go to certain "hot spots" and thus face interacting with other players. Add vehicles with a "crafting system" allowing players to fix them and utilize them to get around the HUGE map faster. Add weapons in the loot tables and balance the weapons to be effective vs zombies and effective vs other players. Some are better at killing the horde and others are better against players. Use the "humanity system" to differentiate players through their interactions with the game visually. That's it for DayZ. Very short and simple really and the reason it's grown to such a huge success without any advertising. There are no rules (besides cheating ofc) and your goal or "end game" is who stays alive the longest. Thus, any problems are purely artificial and caused by players expecting the game to be something it isn't. It's a sandbox and everybody plays in that sandbox on equal terms. When players complain about zombies being glitchy it's not a game breaking flaw. You learn to survive even with glitchy zombies, maybe that is part of the difficulty in the game. Zombies are not just zombies, they are glitchy zombies and you just learn to deal with it as you would dealing with zombies that can take a tank shell to the face and survive. Finally, players complaining about KoS... It's not a problem for the mod, it's a problem in the playerbase itself as players expect to be able to farm loot in complete security until they get bored and give up DayZ. There is no problem with KoS, it's the way the mod is designed to work and you either learn to deal with it (learn to PvP) or you suffer from it as anyone else.

We're an open social community for fair and mature gamers with our own Survival Taviana server that's well suited to PvE (survival) players, and our own Teamspeak server. We're UK based and all our members speak English. We've been playing and supporting Day Z since launch and have our own internal clan (split into two factions, BSB Ravens and BSB Scorpions) as well as hosting several smaller groups and clans within our community. Our Taviana server is Whitelisted and protected against hackers and has loads of vehicles (300+) , loads of new buildings and interesting cities and most points of interest are less than 1K between each other. Our server is very much suited to new players and our members are friendly and helpful and are more than willing to have you tag along, as well as giving you tips and help along the way.   3. Okay, some of you will recognise the format of this from such excellent entertainment as Skippy's list and 'Things Mr Welch is no longer allowed to do in an RPG'. During a bored moment, I figured that DayZ would probably see some mileage from a list like this too - so, without further ado: Things I am not allowed to do in DayZ any more: 1: Playing the ‘Benny Hill’ theme while I do it does not justify running round Elektro firing my Lee Enfield rifle. 2: ‘Buzzing’ newbies in a Huey on the Cherno to Elektro road is best done when my teammates are not sat in said Huey screaming for their lives. 3: If I start singing ‘Kum Ba Yah’ one more time when someone lights a campfire, I will be shot and left for dead. 4: Wearing a Ghillie Suit does not entitle me to communicate in Wookie over TeamSpeak. 5: Whilst my commitment to recycling is admirable, there are no recycling centres on Chernarus, so I can stop holding the party up to collect tin cans. 6: The Coyote backpack is NOT the reason we don’t see any Coyotes around Chernarus. 7: Likewise, the British Assault Pack does NOT contain brass knuckles and a top hat. 8: I am limited to a maximum of two Ron Burgundy quotes per play session. 9: I am not allowed to shoot other players for their morphine ‘because I need a fix, man’. 10: No matter how many times I try, we are never going to ‘get wicked sweet airtime’ in the bus. 11: Humming the ‘Smokey and the Bandit’ theme when approaching the Northwest airfield does not help anybody’s nerves, no matter how loud I do it. 12: If I don’t hit the rabbit with the first box of M249 ammo, we should probably just cut our losses and move on. 13: The AS50 is no longer to be used for opening tins of beans. This goes double when someone else is holding them. 14: No matter how close I try to get, that zombie in the white shirt and beret does NOT look like Jamie Hyneman from Mythbusters. 15: Chernogorsk is not Russian for ‘Whale’s Vagina’. Also, see item 8. 16: ‘Taking the sniper out’ does not mean inviting him for dinner over side chat. 17: We are all aware of the effect a baked bean and sardine-heavy diet will have on the digestive system, and no more will be said on the matter. 18: I am to stop asking new players where Thumper is and telling them that I’m sorry about their mother. 19: I am to stop screaming ‘Airwooooolfffffff, nooooooo!’ at Heli Crash sites. 20: Holding up other players is acceptable. Interrogating them ‘Jack Bauer style’ is not. 21: Our hero group’s motto does not mean “Cannon Fodder” in latin. 22: Landing a helicopter on a hospital roof is impressive. Landing it on a lighthouse is showing off. 23: No matter how many times I think I shot it, satchel charges on a goat is overkill. 24: Double-tapping with the AS50 is unnecessary. 25: Just because the Lee Enfield is nicknamed the ‘dinner bell’ doesn’t mean I have to fire it in the air every time we stop to eat. 26: The Winchester does not shoot slices of fried gold. 27: ‘Zombie Wizards’ is not an acceptable explanation for why the Huey I was left in charge of is now upside-down and on fire. 28: Just because the road signs are in Russian does not mean that I have to speak with a Russian accent. 29: Saying ‘Stand and Deliver’ when holding someone up is acceptable. Playing Adam and the Ants is not. 30: The Bandit group pinning us down in the supermarket will not respond to ‘a firm telling off’. 31. If at any point I begin to hum 'Ride of the Valkyries', I am to immediately land the chopper and let someone else pilot. 32. There is currently no situation in DayZ that requires a tracheotomy, and even if there was, the MP5 is not a suitable tool for the task. 33. If doing something causes me to giggle audibly over Teamspeak, I am to immediately stop, lay down and wait for the rest of the team to come fix whatever it is I've done. 34. The correct term is 'Fire Station', not 'Twatmagnet'. 35. Snipers do not have or need a battle cry. 36. When told to hide/hit the dirt, my first question should not be 'Raptors?' 37. My three-man team does not consist of me, 'primary human shield' and 'backup human shield' 38. I am no longer allowed to hunt with any item to which the term 'blast radius' can be applied. 39. The reason for all the empty whiskey bottles is not to make the Russian women look good. 40. 'It's what they would have wanted' is not to be used to justify the looting of a corpse belonging to someone currently in the TeamSpeak channel. This goes double if it was me that caused their death, no matter how indirectly. 41. Smoke grenades are not toys. 42. I can try as hard as I like, it's not possible to trick the zombies into recreating the 'Thriller' dance in the middle of Elektro. 43. Not allowed to set the stoner guy off by asking 'what if the game is real and we're all just a dream?' 44. We did not spend four hours repairing the helicopter so we could go 'cruising for chicks'. 45. No longer allowed to tell the new guy that he can give himself a blood transfusion by pressing Alt+F4. 46. In conjunction with item 28, adding -ski to the end of every other word does not constitute 'speaking Russian'. 47. Just because we haven't seen any female zombies does not mean that they're still trying to find somewhere to park. 48. My character's spirit guide is not any of the following: William Shatner, Any character played by William Shatner, any person or character with similar character traits to William Shatner. There will be no further discussion on this matter. 49. The fact zombies cannot see me through trees does not mean my character is part Wood Elf, part Ninja or part Treant. Or any combination of the three. 50. Epi Pens are not to be used as 'pick-me-ups'. 51. No matter what I learned from the movie Hot Shots! Part Deux, a chicken is NOT a valid choice of weapon. 52. Any plan which starts with the words 'First we strap a load of satchel charges to...' is immediately vetoed. 53. The zombies aren't infectious, so I shall refrain from any more 'mercy kills'. 54. I am no longer allowed to challenge other players to hatchet duels. 55. Any action which causes a member of my team to break down in tears is automatically disallowed in advance. 56. Until we see definitive proof, I am to stop blaming our missing tents and vehicles on Kobolds. 57. If I don't stop singing that damn Queen song every single time, the act of our group finding a bicycle will be marked by my immediate execution. 58. I am not to play dodgeball with the M203's launcher attachment. 59. Just because it happened once does not mean I have the power to summon wild boar by using the power word 'bacon'. 60. If a player breaks his/her leg and I don't have morphine, I am not to attempt to amputate with the hatchet, even if I did sterilise the blade first. 61. Singing 'Another One Bites the Dust' when a team-mate dies is not considered appropriate behaviour. 62. Chasing team members through barns in the dark with my hatchet is going to get me shot one of these days. 63. If we are running low on blood bags, I am not allowed to suggest using the new guy for refills. 64. 'Hang back and wait for them to hit puberty' is not a helpful suggestion when under attack from other players. 65. There is no possible situation which will require me to be carrying three machine guns. 66. Any action which draws more than eight lines of player reaction in side chat is probably something I shouldn't be doing. 67. Likewise, any action which causes the Teamspeak channel to go silent for thirty seconds is also something I shouldn't be doing. 68. When challenging a player to a duel, it is generally considered polite to inform him of this before opening fire. 69. Any plan I suggest that has the words 'initial explosion' and 'acceptable casualties' in will be rejected before I have finished the sentence. 70. It doesn't matter how nicely I ask, I'm not allowed to carry frag grenades again until I've learned what the controls for a blood transfusion are. 71: 'Friendly fire' does not mean shooting at someone's feet to tell them that you're friendly. 72: I am not to kidnap new players and force them to duel with hatchets at gunpoint. 73: There is a limit to the number of times someone can 'accidentally' discharge their weapon during tense night-time crawls through hostile territory. 74: I am to consult the rest of the team before stopping to pick up hitchhikers armed with assault rifles. 75: No more playing 'chicken' with team members awaiting pickup. Particularly when they are not aware that they're playing. 76: I am not to congratulate the player who just shot me in Elektro for 'having such a deep voice for a eunuch'. 77: When in doubt, I am to assume that vehicles are not amphibious. 78: I am not to attempt to commandeer the tank statue in Chernogorsk. 79: I am not allowed to try any plan which is likely to cause server-wide framerate drops. 80: 'I took a wrong turn' is not a sufficient explanation for how our fishing vessel ended up in Stary Sobor. 81: Chernarus is in a bad enough state as it is without me attempting to start a military coup. 82: When asked to create a distraction, shooting a team member in the legs and running away is not what was meant. 83: Even if MacGyver could do it, it's not possible to attempt to fashion a jetpack out of tin cans, fuel and frag grenades. 84: 'Probably' is not a satisfactory response when asked mid-flight if I remembered to fill up the helicopter before take-off. 85: When running low on food, searching supermarkets and hunting animals is likely to yield better results than trying to get Bob Geldof to hold a benefit concert for us. 86: I am not to tell the guy in the Ghillie Suit to 'get a haircut, hippie'. 87: Yodelling. Never. Again. Ever. 88: I am not to assume the role of 'psychotic drill sergeant' without permission. 89: There is a time and a place for rap battles. A firefight on the Northwest Airfield is neither. 90: In the event of unexplained explosions, I had better have a DAMN good alibi. 91: 'Do a barrel roll!' is not helpful advice when the Huey pilot is trying to land under fire. 92: If I don't stop screaming 'freedom' every time my combat timer goes off, I won't be allowed to use the blue facepaint skin any more. 93: I am not allowed to slip subliminal advertising into the group's 'Let's play' videos. 94: Crashing the Humvee into a road sign is bad enough. Crashing the Littlebird into a road sign gets me kicked out of the group. 95: Not allowed to hold impromptu raves with the chemlights. 96: Painkillers are used to ease the effects of existing pain, not to stop the user from feeling it when they get shot. 97: Dying monologues are limited to a maximum of twenty minutes. 98: The guy with the infection does not have lung cancer. 99: Not allowed to use road flares to draw a giant penis on the Northwest Airfield. 100: If I'm too drunk to pronounce it, I'm too drunk to fly/drive/shoot it. 101: Even if I did grow a moustache especially for it, I'm not allowed to seduce anyone when I turn up to fix the Humvee. 102: Not allowed to use the helicopter to herd sheep. 103: Zombies don't have a melting point, so I can stop throwing road flares now. 104: Not allowed to talk about anything that makes the girl gamers feel sick. 105: Definitely not allowed to talk about anything that makes the guy gamers feel sick. 106: The guy with the AS50 isn't compensating for anything, thank you very much. 107: I have to carry at least one item about my person that isn't an explosive of some kind. 108: 'Shoot first, ask questions later' does not apply to the pre-mission briefing. 109: Frag grenades are not to be used to mark landing sites. 110: Just because I'm the only one that can fly the biplane does not relegate everyone else to the role of 'air stewardess'. 111: 'Fifty Shades of DayZ' is not a real book, and no-one wants to hear my excerpts from it. 112: Not allowed to fill the sniper's backpack with toilet paper while he's busy looking through the scope. 113: When under attack, I am not to attempt to sell teammates to bandits as slaves in order to save my own worthless hide. 114: I did not see a giant gator in that pond one time. 115: If a teammate gets held up and I haven't been spotted, it is not 'every man for himself'. 116: No speaking jive to players we just met over direct chat. 117: I am not to attempt to ram zombies with the biplane. 118: When playing in a hero group, I am not to charge into battle screaming 'blood for the blood god'. 119: Not allowed to use satchel charges to trick new players into thinking I can explode zombies with my mind. 120: We killed that sheep because we needed food, not because 'it was better than what the Aussie was going to do to it'. 121: Not allowed to throw smoke grenades in deer stands and laugh as people stumble blindly off the edge. 122: Not allowed to recreate any scene from Pulp Fiction in DayZ, including (but not limited to) accidentally blowing people's heads off in cars, stabbing 'OD-ing bitches' in the heart, and telling teammates to 'unleash the gimp'. 123: Not allowed to use satchel charges and a bus in order to recreate any scene from Speed. 124: No hiding in the back of the coupe and pretending that the car is haunted by the ghost of Macho Man Randy Savage. 125: No freaking out the pilot by replacing all his cans of soda with Mountain Dew while he isn't looking. 126: I am not to advocate cannibalism of wounded players, no matter how low on food we are and/or how much meat said player looks like they have on them. 127: No shooting unarmed players in the face and claiming that they might have known Krav Maga. Especially when playing Hero. 128: I am expected to inform the other passengers BEFORE bailing out when flying the Huey. 129: Chernarus is NOT 'just like Wales with friendlier locals'. 130: Just because we found a Ghillie Suit in a church does not mean that it's the same one Jesus wore. Moreover, there are so many things wrong with that statement, I should be ashamed of myself. 131: It doesn't matter where or how I got it, I'm not allowed to play with the T-72. 132: Any camouflage given by the Ghillie Suit does not 'stack' by wearing two or more. 133: Not allowed to play 'Hatchet tag' with my teammates. 134: Even if I do know morse code, not allowed to use my flashlight to transmit the lyrics to 'It's Raining Men'. 135: Not allowed to troll the French guy by surrendering to every single zombie we come across. 136: Likewise, I'm not allowed to mock the Italian guy by offering to switch sides every time we come under attack. 137: There is no easter egg where you can find the Teletubbies hill, so I can stop wasting all our fuel looking for it. 138: There is a key difference between a UAZ and a UAV. I am to learn and understand this difference before I am allowed to drive the UAZ again. 139: When playing DayZ Origins, I am not allowed to try and take down Dr Ivan with my Makarov. 140: There is an upper limit to the amount of time I am allowed to spend 'punting' zombies in the SUV at the Northwest airfield.

Get whitelisted @ our website http://www.bsbnetwork.com We are re-launching our Taviana server today as a whitelisted server. The server has a steady user base already that we would like to improve. We have decided to whitelist the server now that the server has proved active and stable. The server has also been patched for stability and to include all the Day Z Taviana updates too. The server is relatively quiet with a regular and stable player base that are for the most part "friendly" so this server suits PvE and survival players quite well at the moment. We do have bandits and Kill on Sight players so be cautions, but the size of the map and the player base means you are relatively safe to go about your business most times. Please note we will NOT be preventing players from engaging each other though nor will we be punishing for this style of play. The map and conditions will be enough for players to avoid conflict if they so wish though! Server features: - Whitelisted server (no hackers) - Veteran settings - 3rd person ON - GMT -4 - Standard Day Z starting load out - Restarts at least once a day (3AM) for fresh crash sites and vehicle clean ups/respawns - 300 vehicles including Pick ups, Vodniks, Buses, Urals, SUV's, PBX's, Hueys, little birds. I agree with Sausageking here, and I'd like to expand on this a bit.I'd like to see the "peeking-exploits" removed, but the reason I and many others use 3dp is to see what the character is up to. Whether just checking their threads, seeing how close they are to an edge or checking if they poke out of cover. It's awareness of yourself to a more natural degree than FPV can provide. In a vehicle, however, that "restricted awareness" is perfectly reasonable. You can only see outside a vehicle you're in by looking out the windows. In a perfect set-up we'd have the ability to move around more inside vehicles. Walking to the back of a bus, or swapping seats in a helo. This would give the ability to look out from different angles, and increase awareness without it being so unnatural.

    Fed up of fighting in Cherno and Elecktro

    It is nothing like DayZ ... it is more like Arma2 with Team Play and Side Missions and a whole lot of PvP or Squad v Squad. There are tons of Vehicles and you only look for Weapons and Ammo ... normally on dead players or in Vehicles. You can build bases and stock them with Weapon Caches ... and there are stores to buy weapons. All players you kill will drop money. There are 3 factions and different classes in those factions. Anyway, yeah other maps might be the way to go for DayZ and your particular style of play ... I think the Cherno Map is too big and that is why most people gravitate towards those two big cities.

  9. Hello, I am Col Brown and I lead the 8th Infantry Division tactical military DayZ clan. We have just opened our private hive and would love for you to come be part of the growing playerbase. Why choose our hive over others? -125 vehicles as it should be. No car around every corner, if you have a car it is an achievment and you can be proud. -Cars spawn in various states of damage. No handouts here. -3 helis. That's right, only 3 helis exist at any one point in time (or 2 helis and a biplane). Just like the good ol' days. -Weekly resets (Why does this matter? See below.) -12 hour restarts -No admin abuse. Admin panel access is extremely restricted. -Clans welcome. -Coastal medic mobile (providing vehicle availability) -Chopper/biplane taxi service (providing vehicle availability) -Minimal starting gear. A bandage, flashlight, painkillers, and small bag. Why weekly resets? For one we have weekly events and server wipes prevent cheating. Secondly, this mixes things up. No clan (including 8Inf) can dominate the server and lock other groups out. Everyone gears, moves north, and establishes dominance together. It also prevents vehicle or weapon hoarding and allows new players to put their foot in the door, rather than old players maintaining dominance. We are more than happy to welcome other clans (hero, bandit and survivor alike) as well as lone wolves or new players and all play styles, although we do not approve of unarmed bambi killers, deathmatchers, or coast snipers.     Ethics of the common player

    Imagine a server where killing an unarmed player was a bannable offense. If there was such a server i would join it with one purpose in mind. To cause as much damage as i possibly can without having a weapon. You see, you don't need a weapon to survive in DayZ. And you don't need a weapon to be dangerous to other players. You don't need a weapon to fix vehicles, you don't need a weapon to drive them. I would steal vehicles from other players and if they shot me then i would report them for killing unarmed players and have them banned. (The ultimate kill?) ... NO! DayZ is a dark place. It's a sandbox. You are free to do whatever you want and that does indeed include KoS and spawn camping. I have no issues with being shot at 1 minute after i spawn. I even thrive in that environment. I know someone might be out to kill me the moment i spawn so i take the proper precautions and make a proper effort instead of assuming i will not be a target until i carry a weapon of worth. I have told this story elsewhere but i will tell it here as well. --- I spawned in Drakon, 500 meters east of Elektro and made my way into town. Upon reaching the school and entering it (my first destination, 2-3 minutes alive) i came face to face with another player who was fielding a Lee Enfield. I promptly do a 180 and run out the door at which point the other player shoots but misses. From here on out he decides to hunt me down as i move erratically north behind the couple of houses between the school and power station. Even with this erratic movements i made he manages to land a shot in my back. I know very well i don't have time to bandage myself and he is too close to me to shake off so i turn back around and am now running circles around him. He empties one of his mags but doesn't manage to hit me as i do the death dance around him, all while bleeding like a stuck pig. He runs to the store to avoid the zombies and i keep following him. Once inside the store he takes position behind the counter and i block his path while changing positions as much as i possibly can to avoid getting hit. Zombies enter through the back door and starts hitting him, now he really panics and empties his last clip and then somehow manages to squeeze past me, running out the front door of the store. I noticed as i entered the store earlier that a winchester lay on the floor of the store. I use this brief moment of safety to pick it up and now the hunter becomes the hunted. He makes it as far as back to the school before i break his leg and pop another 3 rounds into his spine. I bandage, have nearly zero blood left and manages to find some food and drink and leave the area to meet up with my friends. That character survived for 16 days after that. My point is, if you can't deal with being shot at as an unarmed player then you will continue dying and the only way to survive is to adapt and overcome the hurdles. If you can't survive being shot at with a Lee Enfield what makes you think you would survive being shot at by any other player anywhere else? DayZ is a dark place and your survival is entirely based on your abilities to adapt and overcome all obstacles that will face you. Including other players who will shoot at you the moment they see you! ... On a side note, i have killed many other players who had better gear than myself. I have made combacks against ghillied AS50 snipers using nothing more than a makarov. It is my most effective way to gear back up after getting killed. I have survived encounters with groups of players fielding a DMR, MK48, M249 SAW and M16 running away from them erratically as they empty magazine after magazine, clip after clip and box after box of munitions at me. The only times i die is when i am not paying attention and doing stupid noob mistakes i shouldn't make. And you will find that surviving KoS players and spawn killers will become much less of a problem when you learn to PvP.

  16. Q: How is clothing going to work in regards to Hero/Survivors/Bandits? A: We haven't decided on a final implementation because obviously with the customizable clothing that could throw a spanner in the works as you are forcing someone to wear bandit clothing when they really want to wear a hoodie etc so it's how we implement that. One of the ideas we have thrown around is blood on the hands or clothing. Q: Have you decided if Utes is going to be added and how big is Chernarus+? A: No, there hasn't been a decision made on Utes yet. Chernarus+ is roughly the same size, all of the changes are done within the actual landscape of Chernarus (new areas, balancing existing towns and fixing problems with the existing buildings) Q: Have you ever thought about taking things from Wasteland such as missions? A: We want to have something for players to do as sort of an end game, the problem is how can we do that within server limitations. Wasteland has base building but because that is done above ground it means an ever increasing number of items are saved to the server which eventually starts to lag down the server. It's really how we achieve an end-game without affecting everything else. We have spoken about instanced underground base-building as an idea and that's something we are yet to decide on, so like on Skyrim you've got your main land and when you go into a dungeon there is a separate loading time for that, it's a separate world space which would eliminate the problem with items. That's one idea but it's not something we are going to be looking at until the second half of the year really. Q: Engine optimization - Are you still going to lose a lot of FPS in cities/buildings? A: I would say that the impact is going to be significantly decreased as all the zombies are going to be spawned in at the start now. That's something we have been trialing Which means rather then your client having to spawn them into cities it's done by the server. Q: In the latest mod patch, driving through cities even spawns zombies. Is that something you have been thinking of doing or will all zombies be spawned when the server starts? A: We have not tackled vehicles yet because we want to primarily launch with your character, guns and things so vehicles will probably be in one of the updates after we launch the initial alpha. They might be in for the initial release but that depends on when we do the initial release so it['s not set in stone. As for the lag Zombies in the mod currently use the same skeletons as players, meaning the animations can cause more lag. So we what we have done is redesigned the skeleton so it's more efficient so hopefully that will help with some of those problems. Q: What are you doing to prevent scripters/hackers? A: Currently the two main methods being employed are using VAC, which means they will have to create a new steam account to rebuy the game, the other method is our new client-server architecture which puts more onus on the server to check data rather then it being done by clients. Also, using steam We can also ensure people don't load unverifed files in at the same time. Inevitably though there will always be some hackers in DayZ. Q: Diseases, what are you thinking, what can you catch, how do they transfer etc A: Diseases will be done like they happen in real life to some extent. All diseases start of with what's called a latent reservoir which is where the disease is kept, for example they believe H5N1 (Bird Flu) started off with bats I think, bats/mice/rats/watersources etc. So we can start a virus on one server from one water source, say Cholera. Anyone who uses that water source will have a chance of being infected who can then pass it on to other water sources. They can also infect other players through bodily contact if the virus spreads that way. Even if that player uses medicine to cure it, someone else could go to that latent reservoir and still pick it up and spread it around as well. Q: Are servers going to be connected on a single hive? A: Our intention is to start off with just a public hive and all servers will connect to that and we will see how that goes. Q: Is there no way to get alpha access for the standalone? A: Not at the moment, the alpha codes aren't just alpha copies, they also give you a free copy of the game, they are exactly the same as the copies you will buy on steam so we are giving them to people who have helped out with the mod. Testing at the moment really isn't anything exciting anyway, it involves connect and then disconnecting from a server. Q: You have mentioned the initial version of the game is an alpha and then over time will add more content, is that correct? A: We will be adding regular updates to add or improve things in the game, more weapons, clothing, vehicles, lots of things like that. We will be able to settle down into fairly regular updates once the alpha is released. Q: You have mentioned you are going to focus more on civilian weapons, are you going to spawn with anything or will it be similar to the mod? A: I think the system will still spawn you with very little, as for military weaponry and rifles, there will still be hunting rifles. There may still be sniper rifles I'm not sure which military weapons we are directly keeping though at the moment. All the weapons will be redone so we can improve the sounds/models and things like that. Q: Are heli crashites going to stay in the game, giving players a chance to find high-end military loot? A: As mentioned we want to redo all of the weapons in the game. We have less weapons but with more customization, attachments etc. For example you can have an AK with a fixed stock, skeleton stock, folding stock, grenade launcher, torch, laser, kobra sight etc. So there are more variations for people to swap between rather then two versions of the AK and two versions of the M4. Q: Will you be able to find these attachments? A: Yeh, we haven't decided on the spawn rates yet though, I imagine it would be fairly rare to find scopes but when you find those your weapon becomes more personalised. So there is more likely going to be less 50 calibre rifles and more bolt action, semi automatic rifles and handguns etc. As we said all the magazines now store information on then, so you could find an magazine with 2 bullets in it or you can empty bullets out of one. As to how far we go with that is something that we hasn't been finally decided. I'd like to see you be able to take every bullet out of a magazine except for one so someone can see the magazine, picks it up and then finds out there is only one bullet. We want to be fairly intuitive with that for example you can share 9mm bullets between guns that use the same calibre. Q: Will zombies be a real threat so you can't just hide in a bush and they disappear? A: It depends on what improvements we can make to the AI and how many zombies we can spawn in on the server so I'd say it's best to wait and see for that one.

    AS50 Bug?

    There was an entire patch which deleted the as50 1.7.5.0 where the gun was mistakenly banned and the exact issue happened. All items/characters/vehicles attached to an as50 were deleted. They then came out with 1.7.5.1 which corrected the as50 problem but seems to still have issues. Legit guns like G36 and L85 holo get turned into Makarov PM on reboot as if they are banned weapons. The fact is you have little to no idea what you are talking about and have done absolutely no research into this area. If you don't want to play on our server anymore that's fine but you should stop spreading misinformation about things you have no knowledge about.

    Staying legit as an admin

    Pretty much this, the tool I use gives an audio warning when something dodgy is going on so I start it up and minimise it and play the game normally. I've got a rough idea where peoples bases are but I'm not interested in raiding them, if someone else in the group finds one then that's fair game but it's not happened yet. We've hoarded vehicles (found honestly) but that's pretty self-defeating as it makes your camp blindingly obvious and ours has been raided umpteen times by parties unknown and I've no interest in spending the time to figure out who.

    That is actually a hacking tool Squarebox and not an admin tool. If you actually read the comments in youtube you would know that. The only tools admins have are those provided by Battleye http://www.battleye.com/download.html Battleye Rcon or BERcon for short looks like this and you have only a handful of commands as I previously stated and provided links to. We run a public hive and not a private hive so your statement about spawning in weapons and vehicles is irrelevant. It has been stated that admins simply do not have these tools and if they are using them they should not be.

    I'm not sure about public hives but private hive can definitely spawn weapons and equipment(indirectly) by editing inventory and spawn vehicles too. They can even do a roll back if hackers messed up the server.

    That's your opinion and I completely disagree. I think we should have third person but force first person while in vehicles because first person doesn't offer enough awareness and vehicles do have a restrictive view. It's weird how we're on completely opposite sides of this. There is a huge risk of people "exploiting" third person while in a vehicle. It's an enormous advantage even over the third person view players get as its pulled out much further and chopper pilots can see through their helicopter to spot just about everything.

Why can't you hold the flashlight properly? "Aww nah their trying to make a realistic game, you'd actually do that in real life..." NO. WRONG. DayZ is already the most realistic game I've ever played, (blood, food, water, hearing, sight etc) so holding a flashlight without having a epileptic seizure should be mandatory. -More Vehicles Would you also like a weapon stash? Or maybe a BM-21? How about we also give you an F35 just as you spawn? How much fun would that be! Well I've spawned and already got a vehicle to get around easily and pretty much defeat the whole purpose of playing this game, soooooo V -No point This is stupid. Whats the point of minecraft? Nothing! All you do is build houses and stuff. I can build a house outside if I wanted to, but can I take part in the survival of a zombie apocalypse right now? NO.

Either way I didn't dig very deep and only did a quick google search for "missing gear dayz" and "items gone dayz". And we never said "it was a hive issue across many servers" those are your words not ours. It was obviously a localized issue contained to just our server during a small time frame and was reported as such.
