    Mod to standalone over switch

    See Fraggle, this is what i'm concerned about, this 'should' business.I can see Dayz SA being a somewhat more stable version of the mod as it currently is, stable as in a bit more protected from hacking... ...but thats it. But theres a lot more that needs addressing is DayZ is going to be a good game. i understand the Devs and communities concerns about hackers, but having heard not much about much else and Rockets rush to release a LOT of things that need redesigning from the ground up look like its going to be left til too late. things like: ZOMBIES: - AI needs improving. - Pathing needs improving. (inc running through buildings) - Doors and walls. They are infected not ghosts right? most importantly -Spawning system. (its just a flag showing a players location atm.) LOOT SYSTEM: - Gear is far to abundant. - The questionable tactic of 'loot cycling' needs to be sorted. (Why actually play the game and look for stuff when you can just cycle til you score?) - Spread of loot. (it creates hotspots and bottlenecks for campers to enjoy.) - Server hopping issues. Hive Setup: - Ghosting - Alt+F4 - Server hopping All issues caused by the 'persistent character', system needs an overhaul or some changes. - also map size vs. max number of players. (lots of players sounds great, until you stick 150 people on a 225km map, theres not enough wilderness to go around, it becomes DM due to over population.) Humanity: -Skin system is flawed. -and Clumsy. - and removes a huge amount of tension. Duping: - intentional duping by players. - Tent bugs. - skin duping. - random server glitches causing dupes also. Theres a fair more more things i'd like to see addressed as well, and these are CORE ISSUES that need to be dealt with before the public Standalone Alpha quite frankly, or the Standalone will suffer hard from these huge factors being addressed. i love Rockets vision for the game, but the foundations hes building it on in a rush to release aren't strong enough to support that vision currently, In my opinion.
  3. Lot's of changes since the original post: - Whitelist implemented, now you have to apply in order to join the server. We've had 1 hacker in the last 2 weeks. - RP1 and RP2 are running on the same HIVE - you can join any of them and play your character. Players ghosting will be banned. - Some weapons removed, some added. Removed AS50 and L85, added Saiga, RPK, AK107 and MakarovSD. - Custom built Trading Post created, acts as a safe zone and social/trading hub for players. - Stability changes and optimizations to the server code. - 800 whitelisted users, #9 DayZ server on GameTracker!

    Rape Dungeon - DayZ Namalsk

    as a regular traveller to this Rapedungeon, i highly recommend this server to anyone wanting to really "experience" FALLUJAH the city, not just fallujah the airfield.. constantly populated. no ghosting. life expectancy at airfield is about 5 minutes. u need to really work to survive this server.
  5. Yeah, James, the situation that happened to you is no longer possible in 0.2.4. The shed issue theanes mentioned is no longer possible when you first get to an area. If you were to hang around that shed for about 20 minutes, the numbers would grow to about 40 zombies there. But it would take 20 minutes of you sitting by that shed and not killing any zombies. Still, like I said, I'm not perfectly happy with the zombie mechanic yet. But it's going in the right direction. I do like that the barracks at NWAF become death traps if you don't sneak into them or have a buddy or two to help clear. As for the EU server, I'm ready to turn one up now (didn't think I'd be saying this so quickly). But I have no knowledge of EU based providers. As mentioned before, if anyone knows of any quality Windows 2008 VPS/Dedicated Server hosting over there, I'll get one turned up for you folks. Although, I will miss playing with some of you. I think the server is disproportionately compromised of non-USA survivors, which only makes me sad in the sense that I hope the mod will continue to grow in popularity and get some numbers up to replace those on the US server who end up going to the EU server. Note that the servers will not exist in a collective hive, as I can think of no reliable and consistent way of preventing people from ghosting or otherwise abusing that mechanic. I've yet to determine to what extent, but I will be 'transferring' survivors that elect to go to the EU server should they want it. I probably won't let you take vehicles or tents just to ensure the server has a somewhat fresh start, though.
  6. I'm fed up with playing with irresponsible kids. I'm not into adult groups who "just want to have a laugh" and do dumb things in Dayz because "is just a game". I want to join a group that is based in the UK or western Europe, uses Teamspeak in a professional and meaningful way (so clear comms and no silly chit-chat). I want to play with people who are serious about the game's immersion and survival experience. No hacking, no cheating, no duping, no ghosting, no alt+f4 pussies, no banditry, no server hopping. Good, solid, fair, helpful, tactical, effective, communicative survival gaming is where I want to be, with a group of like-minded adults. I'd like to choose one server and make it my permanent home. I'm good at squad tactics, following the orders of a competent, firm, imaginative, fair and mature leader, piloting the Huey and driving. I'm no sniper but a good all-round soldier, very loyal to the right people. If this sounds like your group, contact me. If this sounds like a group you'd like to be part of, again, contact me.     That means only 1 or 2 people would have access to the database though, if every server wanted to merge it would simply become like the offical hive, cheating, ghosting, lameness - everything we work for ruined.

    Try search? "altf4" "ghosting" "hopping" etc, no one wants to link million threads for you... you only need to check 1-3 pages of the section and find plenty of these threads.

    Hackers are slowly pushed out

    I have to say my major issue with the game right now is combat loggers and people that jump from a server while in combat to move behind you on another server and then log back in, or ghosting. I think they need to make it if you fire your gun or take fire and then you alt f4, it should just kill you on the spot and spill your guts all over the floor, better yet the server should drop a bomb on their face.
  11. I had so many friends buy Arma to play DayZ but dropped it like a bad habit. I too was extremely disappointed with DayZ at first, I had watch video after video before pulling the trigger, I really thought I knew what I was getting into. Then I started playing and couldn't believe how many assumptions I really made about this game. I could not believe that only a handful of buildings could be entered. I had no idea that the biggest cities were at the bottom of the map and were rarely traveled by anyone looking to experience survival or live past their first 45 min. Where were these camp fires full of players? What do you mean I cant use a flashlight or chem light because Ill just get griefed every time? But the unforgiving death system, survival theme, and realistic game play kept me pushing and pushing to figure it out, I knew there was something about this game I was going to love if I could just find it. Eventually I meet a good group players and joined their clan, they showed me the ropes and helped me learn my way around DayZ and Chernarus. That spark of hope ignited once again, but after a couple weeks the constant hacking, duping, ghosting, and saving bugs extinguished that flame almost as fast as it was lit. So I quit, in fact, so did most of the clan. We kept throwing around discussions like "is it worth it to keep the server until standalone?". Some members even began looking at the WarZ as a better product (I know right?). Then one day I get a message from a clan buddy "hey man, we are playing Lingor island. You should come check it out, its pretty fun". At first Im thinking meh what ever, just another DayZ map full of disappointment. It took me close to 3 weeks after Lingor released to install it, it took another 3 days before I even played it. I regret wasting those 3 weeks and 3 days.... I was and still am completely blown away at how much the Lingor map is what DayZ Chernarus SHOULD be. Multiple cities and not just on one side of the map. 99% of all buildings can be entered. Tons more vehicles and a larger variety of vehicles, frigging boats and bi-planes man! Interesting and diverse terrain from desert to jungle to marsh. Private hive to combat the simple exploits like ghosting and alt+F4, which are far more frustrating than a script kiddie playing thunder dome. I found that bugs had been fixed that were ever present in Chernarus like vehicle storage, military flashlights, swimming in water, and probably a few more I cant think of off the top of my head. Zombies are actually a real threat, there are so many buildings you forget which ones have a back exit and which ones are a death trap! You also get a little cocky and because you fool yourself into thinking you can always run and hide, but sometimes you get swarmed in a bad place. This has made fighting Zombies fun, not just an annoyance. Then there are the players, you have no idea who is where. Far to many places to hide, you'll never know if you might run into someone. The airfields are not the only places to get military loot, its all over the map! Gone are the days of spending all my time in one of two airfields. Once I began playing Lingor Island I was hooked and when I say hooked I'm talking World of Warcraft hooked. I finally found it, the DayZ that I wanted to play from the start. I even have a few of those friends, with a little effort, who are now playing because they too were expecting Lingor Island when they began playing DayZ. 3 weeks later I purchased a hosted VM and launched my own Lingor Server and i just cant get enough! I can only hope that the Chernarus' update for Standalone can be as good as Lingor Island because if it wasn't for Lingor Id probably would have bought and be playing Panda's! So I'd like to extend my gratitude to the private hive community. Lingor Island is full of WIN and I look forward to continuing to host and promote Lingor Island as the way to play DayZ, especially for those who think DayZ sucks because they too were disappointed with the current official map.   12. I don't understand. OP just bashes all types of pvp and some people say he had valid points? Server hopping and ghosting aren't new points. He complains about "deathmatch" style pvp, then bashes "camping" style pvp. Of course people that sit in a bush for 3 hours will have an advantage in combat, they waited for that advantage. Just come out and say you're one of the people who runs around in fields and wants snipers removed because you don't know how to stay in cover.

    How about ability to search on forum. (has been up 1xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx times.) hour is way too much, people that get disconnected for other reasons get fuckd, simple 10mins timer would do less harm to randoms. Or specific server remembers your location for like 6 hours, no need for wait then. Logout timer, location rememberance and 5-10 times wait timer would stop altf4,hopping and ghosting.

    As nice an idea as it is in theory I think the game would actually be better of without the persistant world. Things like ghosting and server hopping are impossible to combat without hurting players that have to change servers or reconnect for legitimate reasons. Sometimes I connect to a server and I have 10 FPS when I'd normally have 50-70. If I had to either play there or wait for an hour before I could play somewhere else I'd be pissed off.

    This is known as ghosting, server hopping is generally switching servers to get different loot spawns. I'm not sure if either are banable offences, especially not without proof.

    Yes walk into a login trap by someone ghosting into a better position. Good idea. I actually like name tags and kill messages, to me it creates a community. I like knowing who I killed and I wish they know who killed them, makes for better rivalries and revenge kills, stuff like that. I don't like how imbalanced name tags are currently and if they fixed those I'd be very happy. Anonymous killing anonymous creates no community whatsoever. Which IMO is bad thing in the long run.

    As I saw it, people only got interested in non-hive servers, be they other maps or not, as a means of escaping the hackers. One of the original things about this mod was the hive, taking loot from server to server etc. Private servers blow, in that you could build up a good character and then are only able to get a decent game if and when that server has players.Without any fucking shadow of a doubt, the main reason the majority of players quit is not boarding school or different maps, but hackers. Hackers that teleport and instantly kill. Sure there are other serious problems like logging, ghosting and duping. Those were also serious factors in diminishing the playerbase but at that time, before grief-hacking became widespread, there were 200,000 more players at least. Hacking finished it.Roll the fuck on, standalone!

    The thing stopping you from doing it is yourself and your ability to understand that these activities are ruining a game that has the ability to be great. Killing players using tactics like ghosting is causing people to horde weapons and equipment, making it so when they die, they don't even need to play anymore. They just run back to their tent with all their stored up weapons and they go off to kill more people. And using tactics like server hopping and loot cycling are hyper-saturating the game with all of the best stuff, making everything becoming less valuable and causing extreme inflation. Obviously you would hesitate to stop, since you clearly stated your disdain for rules in general. And I don't believe for a second you have never touched a hacked item, since you clearly stated in your above post how you think hacking is okay. People "like me" usually know what we're talking about. I don't just pull shit out of my ass. I already know what the rules are, and while, like I have stated earlier, I don't know for sure of an official rule, but I can, based on the fact that I have a brain, extrapolate from the other rules what Rocket's stance on this tactic would be. He is completely against any kind of exploiting and hacking, so why would this be any different. You should also remember that there is a standalone in development, so I'm sure they are spending most, if not all of their time on that. I have heard them say that the ArmA mod will take a backseat to the standalone. And game development is nothing like writing a paper. Do you expect them to never release an alpha and a beta just because it's not 100% developed? That would be stupid. They need to get it out so they can get the players to test it for bugs and get their opinions on different features. Demanding that they hurry along with developing the game is just arrogant and rude. Yes, they should be told if they are working slow that we want it out faster, but to demand they drop everything in their lives to develop this game just for you? Just, no.

    oh really? thing is, nothing, absolutely nothing is stopping me from ghosting, loot cycling, using thermal scopes, hoarding loot, the only thing are players rabbling and rabbling about what is right on this game based off on their own opinions. my post was merely an hyperbollic satire, say Rocket actually despises these kinds of activities such as loot cycling (the topic at hand), I would not hesitate to stop doing it, just like I have never taken a hacked weapon, since I know for a fact that is not condoned. But people like you saying things like "you are despicable for doing this" "you should feel bad for doing this" with no idea on what the official stance is, are a cancer to most games out there. oh and btw, just because the devs provided this game to us doesn't mean we can't demand a minumum amount of polish and work, as of this moment now I've spent 48 hours writing an assignment that I have no intention of handing to my teacher, instead of saying "yeah it's a preliminary version (read: alpha)" and giving it to him, I will work for another 48 hours to polish it, word it better and eventually have an up to standards assignment with which I expext to get a high mark with.

    Before the teleporting/instant killing hacking began, sure what you say made some sense in terms of challenge. I certainly enjoyed that more. But since the hacking, there is just no point marching north to get hacked. So that's nobody's fault really but the hackers.Nevertheless, you have it wrong to compare this to an MMO or any game. It's not about honor, character, prestige or "fair game". It's actually a sim which tries to be as realistic as possible. Sure as hell, there is no honor, prestige or fair game in RL combat or survival. It's a dirty, gritty business. I shoot new-spawns in part because, like mentioned, the essence of the game was destroyed by hackers, so I am on the coast. I also do it because, really, how often do you see any geared player running around buildings unless they hacked that shit in? They are all combat logging, ghosting and already setup in a perfect place by the time they join a busy server. That's another problem of the mechanics of the game I guess.

  25. The FHC private hive cluster is currently looking for more players to populate our servers. We are running a true cluster for each map, meaning you can switch back and forth between any server on our hive running the same same map without losing your gear. We found this was the best compromise when it came to players in different timezones. Currently we are running 4 servers, 2 for lingor and 2 for chernarus, and will expand up to more servers and maps as needed. All decisions by a server admin are final There will be no warnings of any kind(unless someone is feeling very gracious). By connecting to the server you are agreeing to comply with these rules. MORE INFORMATION: About the private hives: Each map has its own hive instance that is shared between the 2 servers. This way you can choose your day/night cycle without me setting up an "always daytime" server. It also spreads people from different timezones out a bit, so it is less likely you get your shit stolen form someone who is on the other side of the world while you are asleep. Clustering the servers also allows me to scale out instead of scaling up, so if we feel the need to setup more servers to accommodate more users we can easily. About the databases: The databases are hosted on a separate server from the hive servers, allowing for better performance and redundancy. I am taking backups of the databases every hour in case of a failure, or so if the server gets hacked we can quickly restore to the most recent copy that worked. I will be deleting back-ups every 48 hours. If you report something after the backup is gone you are SOL. Cheating/Hacking/ghosting/etc: Please report any illicit behavior as soon as possible. The sooner you report the sooner we can get the issue resolved. Automatic Restarts: The servers restart every 4 hours. You will be warned 30 minutes before the restart and every 5 minutes thereafter. Please log off at least 5 minutes before the restart so that you do not lose any progress/gear/etc. The admin team is not responsible for anything that happens due to a restart. Bugs: Please report bugs as soon as possible so they can be resolved in a timely manner.
