Hello there You'd be surprised how quickly *things* fall apart when they are not looked after, Its less long than you think. IHMO salvageable vehicles should be rare and *then* one should have to toil long and hard to get them in a working state. If I meet someone with a working revolver I want to be "wow! that guys got a working gun AND ammunition!". Rgds LoK

On the one hand i like how in the mod vehicles are a rare find, but it would make sense that vehicles were all over the place, Also to consider theres been suggestions that as players do things like repair vehicles they will get better at it, With that in mind you could make it that the majority of vehicles are in such a bad state that its impossible for the average player to fully repair, they can salvage parts but maybe the hull/chassis is too heavily damaged to get going without experience, This would mean we have lots of vehicles spread accross the map but finding a good one still takes a lot of time and luck.

I've always imagined the "ideal" sized DayZ map to be 900 square kilometers. With the speed of faster land vehicles and aircraft, one can cover even the largest current maps in too short an amount of time. Larger maps would also allow for small communities to grow around certain areas of given map without the constant threat of "invasion". I am all for larger maps, and if I had a year or two off from real life, I would create a 900 or 1200 square km map for DayZ. Perhaps someone will get down to it at some point. -

What we're looking for is another clan that will call our server home. Perhaps at times we will pull our forces together and perform a mega-raid through NWAF or Cherno, but I think mostly we can depend on one another to be rivals and keep the game challenging. You raid us, we raid you and so on and so forth. NCK has a teamspeak server and we would make a private, locked channel for you. If the clans aren't too large, there could be room for more than one. Think about it, we claim the north, you claim the south and the rogue clan claims a small area in the west. Send your forces to raid us, make a truce and trade weapons or vehicles. It could play out many different ways and we're definitely looking to add something more to our server. We want you and yours to be a part of it too! Also, take part in our special events as organizers or as contestants! While server traffic is just starting to pick up, it is a great time to check us out. The North Country Killers are currently looking for 'nother clan to compete against on our server. We're awfully lonely and need some serious companionship in the apocalypse. Our server's a public hive server with all the newfangled things them youngin's like... like side-chat... animated chopper crashes and death messages. But, that's where it ends. There are no additional buildings, admin-hacks.. I mean tools.... or other ridiculousness that takes away from DayZ as a whole. The server is heavily moderated -- over 8 ACTIVE moderators thus far and they are to be fair, unbiased and polite! Heck, I'll even let you on our teamspeak and make you your own channel. I can even send my ho's (Mrs. Lady Lamp and Buttercup) to keep your men happy. I'll polish your boots.... I'll let you win the crossbo.... nevermind. As a bit of a warning, NCK is a very bandit leaning clan and likely to pillage, plunder and murder your clan on sight. The prox12 dayz private hive server is a brand new server. As of current it has base building mods and auto refueling and an increased amount of vehicles. However within the weak we plan to add new and unique vehicle spawns that are not in vanilla dayz as well as new buildings, new guns, and npc's. This server is brand new with many vehicles still at their spawn. SO for anyone who wants to build a clan and find a server to commit to and get a foothold in the door. I don't use sniper rifle or helicopters. I am not against them per se. What I am against are weapons/tools/vehicles/materials that are not represented with the proper postive AND negative aspects. You cant run around with an AS50 the same as an MP5. How many survivors are master aircraft maintence trained? Sure you may be able to figure out how to fly that bird but without proper maintence how many hours will you log before a hydralic line blows or stabilizer lets go? Random events like these should be in the game in my oppinion. There should be few if any "no brainer" choices. For almost everything you gain there is something you should have to give. Such is life.

I'v been playing this mod for a while and I place a tent down, place some items in it for the night, scroll and select save camping tent over 3 times and log out...when I log back in its gone. Same goes for vehicles. Does it usually do that with everything? Keep in mind I log back inthe same server, and I'm in the outskirts of everything and doubt it was anyone who took my things. Could be, just highly doubt it.

So, I've been playing this mod for a while, and there are definitely somethings that I've noticed that could make vehicles in general, seem a lot smoother, and better. Animations of the character interacting with the car (ex. steering the wheel, turning the car on, opening the door, getting in the car, etc.) A radio... Sometimes, when I am driving from one place to the other, it seems very plain, so I'll turn on music from my playlist, but when I get shot at, or I veer off course and crash, I am in a rush to turn off the music, which means Alt Tabbing, pausing the music, and going back into the game. This becomes a major annoyance. So having the ability to turn on and off a car (or even handheld) radio with a hot key would be awesome and entertaining. Players could also be able to import their own music to play over the radio, though that could probably be used profoundly. The ability to lock your car. (from the outside or inside) 9 times out of 10, I'll go on a giant trip collecting gear and repairing a car, driving that car around filling it with guns or equipment I can't keep on my guy, just for it to be stolen while I am either away or offline. In my opinion, it would make sense to add keys. No car can start without a key, so you obviously need them to drive. You could also take the keys, and have them in your inventory, to trade off, or to make sure no one takes your car. This could bring up a few problems while finding cars, you could find cars that are locked and can't be looted, you could find cars with no keys, or even cars that have a broken lock and can't be locked. This would also bring up a new problem. (3.5) The ability to steal cars or loot in the cars. Having the ability to lock cars would be a little stupid without a counter to it (especially if it's YOUR stolen gear), so having the ability to break into cars would be a great way to even it out. If you have a melee weapon, you can bash in the window, but this will set off the alarm (if it has one) and the alarm can only be deactivated by the key, or wire cutters (if you catch my drift) but that is only how to get in the car. In order to start the car and drive away, you need to hot wire the car which would be a long (annoying) task indeed. The last idea on my list is a bit crazy, but would definitely happen if an apocalypse was to come. The ability to attach things to your car. Imagine it, a truck with a plow and metal panels on it's sides and rear with metal bars over the windshield. (Like "Death Race" or the infamous "Battle Bus") This could also help prevent the inevitable, getting killed in your car, you could put metal sheeting on windows with slot in them to see out of. So, those were ideas that I thought about while playing the game, and yes, I know that the last idea was a bit crazy If you have anything that you want to change about mine, or have any other ideas that pertain to cars in the game, I would gladly listen to what you have to say. (P.S. COMIC SANS!)

[DayZ SA] Car Locking, Keys, and Alarms - Realistic Vehicles

I like this idea. Although it should be more difficult without a key to the vehicle. Maybe something like you need a crowbar to break into the vehicle and than to hot wire it after you need a toolbox. However, hot wiring has a chance to damage the vehicle to a point were it isn't drivable. Maybe also in SA, like Dean has suggested, there will be a very basic leveling/skill building process. So something like if you hot wire "x" amount of vehicles successfully your chance at daging vehicles through hot wiring decreases by some percentage. Just my 2 cents. -
How about vehicles then? You all have convinced me on the guns, but what about many,broken vehicles?

It totally should be, though. I really hope people realize the detriment to in-depth gameplay that external communication programs pose. Why scavenge when you already have crystal clear comms with your massive clan? Why care about your life when you just respawn and immediately arrange a pinpoint accurate pickup on the coast? At least with a radio, you have to find/repair it. Or, on the flip-side, as I constantly try to illustrate when I play... One can broadcast locations of vehicles, tents, and players on sidechat. Same thing can be done on server TS channels. Meta-gaming, in the traditional RP sense, is really what is cheapening the experience for me. Knowing that there is a consequence free comm system out there when I try to ambush a group or even defend against a group, knowing they can communicate my position even after they're dead. Comms need to be brought into the systems of the game. Radios should be the only method of long-range communication. However, radio stations will probably end up being like "medics" in DayZ. There'll be a bunch of shitty ones that just annoy you, and maybe one or two that stand out as immersive and noteworthy. -
Agree that everything should be busted up and difficult to repair, but guns should be rare, really make finding that AK-74 an event. Vehicles should be all over the place but so wrecked that most of the time you'll be lucky to salvage one or two good working parts from them.

Okay - in my view, it's a bad idea. They've completely reworked the loot system to make it more of a challenge to find things - you have to search every nook and cranny for loot; whilst I can sympathise at the availability of weapons should be more expansive, and not locked to specific loot locations, your suggestion just seems a little killjoy. It's not gonna be exciting finding a weapon if they're literally all over the place. I think the fact you'll have to maintain your weapon's status will be sufficient enough, but the idea of all weapons being broken and rusted over is null and void anyway, because you don't know the timescale the storyline will be following. I would like to see more vehicles totalled/borderline unrepairable for the sake of atmospheric value too.

Hey, So we've found our server's admin's camp, and it's got a lot of vehicles, and many tents. I was thinking of the most awesome way to attack it, and came up with a helicopter insertion. However, I'm not sure if their camp is in a place accessible by helicopters (I.e. under trees). I was just wondering whether my friends could jump out of the chopper whilst I hover 50 ft above, and parachute down (or vice versa), or whether they will all fall to their deaths. Thanks :)

So...Thinking about renting a Private Hive server, but I have a few questions.

1. Can you choose which gear all the players spawn with? (For example, can I have players spawn with a map and a tent if I want?) And is it easy to do this, or is it hard to set up? 2. Am I able to spawn in items/vehicles of my choice as an admin? I was thinking of spawning us in a helicopter so we can get around the server easily, and some guns and stuff. Can I do this? 3. Can I choose where certain items spawn, and the chance of them spawning in that location? Or is that beyond my power as an admin? 4. Can I disable certain zombie spawns? Lets say I wanted to clear Balota airstrip of zombie, and make sure they don't spawn there again, could I do that? 5. What is the minimum amount of player slots you can get on a PH server? I want this to be as cheap as possible. 6. As an admin, can I change my skin if I want? (As in, change my skin to bandit or hero without having to gain/lose the humanity?) 7. Lets say I can spawn in items, can I spawn some guns for my friends? 8. Can I whitelist a server? So only me and my friends can go on the server? 9. Can I disable PVP in certain areas? Notice: It may seem like I'm trying to cheat on this server, but I'm planning to have it open to only me and my friends, so don't worry about getting screwed over by over-powered admins, because, frankly, you probably won't find this server. And, thanks in advance to whoever answers these questions. -
