    Realistic Repairs

It defiantely has been mentioned before (I know I've commented on topics about this before) but that doesnt mean it's not a good idea and shouldnt be taken seriously. I completely agree there should be more diversity in loot, especially for vehicle repairs. It SHOULD be difficult to source and repair componants of vehicles. As you say, at the very least there should be different types of tires for different types of vehicles - truck wheelse, off road wheels, bike wheels etc. etc. It should also take more time to pysically fit and take more time/weight/slots to transport componants, particularly large and heavy parts such as engine blocks. This subject ties in nicely with the idea of taking componants from other vehicles too as well as an in-game inventory system based on a weight limitation for characters. You should be able to take parts form otehr cars but you shouldnt eb able to wander around carrying engine blocks and spare wheels in you back pack!

    Byff's Blogz

Back from hols. Byffs Blogz day#5 It's funny logging in after such a long break. All the things that you've memorised in certain locations have been moved and it's like starting out again from scratch. Fortunately, the Fogeyz have been busy upping the vehicle count and there's now 300+ vehicles on the server so it wasn't long before I found a pick-up truck to get around easier. A quick drive down to Balota airfield and there was a Little bird sitting waiting for me to fly away. Obviously just spawned in, it was all green with a full tank of fuel, so I used that to buzz the other airfields. OMG, so many helicopters, some in disrepair and some ready to go. While flying around I saw a black SUV missing two wheels, so I hid the little bird away and set off to repair it. No problems encountered at all so now I have a little bird and a SUV in my little "base". Will they still be there when I log back in tomorrow?
  3. So, server hoppers are a problem in the main hive. And come the standalone, without pretty stringent anti-hopper systems, it's going to EXPLODE out of control. Loot spawns at server start... so server hoppers will have instant access to it the moment they spawn. Even if they spawn right in the room itself. So what are the systems that are used to combat hoppers? The big ones are: Relocation: move the hopper somewhere else. This has the issue of catching innocent parties in its net and forcing them to a predetermined point. The problem with this is that people can camp those predetermined points and murder the people who spawn there; legit players and hoppers alike. Deprivation: Spawning in on top of loot causes it to disappear. This has the problem of removing loot from high-traveled areas. That is to say, places like the barracks. What if you disconnect at the barracks by accident, and then come back in there afterwards? The loot is all gone. Disappeared into the ether. It also deprives other survivors of the loot because of one server hopper removing all loot from the one place that has the best chance of spawning in good loot. Isolation: A server hopper is restricted in the servers he can access. He can't keep hopping to a new server by some system. An inelegant solution. Sort of like trying to pop a tire with a rocket launcher. A lot of innocent people can get caught in that net. My idea is: Invisi-loot™! When someone hops to a new server, that is to say, a second server within an hour of another, a countdown begins. Fifteen minutes. During that fifteen minutes, any 'rare' loot is invisible to that player. They can't see it. They can't interact with it. They can't pick it up. Fifteen minutes of grace before you can find a pistol, a shotgun, a rifle, ammunition, ghillie suit, etc etc etc. So, for those fifteen minutes, a player would only see junk. Tin cans. Razor blades. Toilet paper. Cans of drink. Bandages. Tins of beans. The basic survival items, food and water, still are visible to you. You can pick those up. So you won't starve or die of dehydration while waiting for loot to spawn in. And innocents don't really get caught in this net. But Xianyu, it affects EVERYONE! Really? Reeeeeeeally? How, praytell, does this affect everyone? Well, loot is invisible for fifteen minutes. Okay, so, run from Kamenka to Cherno. Time it. Don't worry. I'll wait. Took longer than fiteen minutes? Good. Now STFU. But Xianyu, what if I have a vehicle? That would be on your 'main' server, would it not? Why would you go to another server and then your main one? Because I wanted to. Okay, so you spawned in at your base, probably in the woods, and drove a car to a nearby spawn in under fifteen minutes. Okay... so? Wait. But this idea still sucks because it doesn't account for people with vehicles. I argue that if you have vehicle, you're not on a 'random server'. Why the fuck did you hop to another server before going to your main server? If you have a vehicle on a server, use that server. Or wait fifteen minutes. I'm sure you can amuse yourself for the ten minutes it takes the rare loot to spawn in. And if you have a vehicle, you're not so noob at the game that you need to find a weapon within five minutes to be able to survive. But what about people who get disconnected for ping or network errors? You're punishing them. Not if you go back to the same server you were originally on. The timer wouldn't start because it's the same server. And instituting a clause for being kicked for high ping giving you a 'mulligan' would work fine. Just go to another server and hope for the best. Of course, the mulligan would have to only stop the countdown on joining a new server once an hour or so. This is to stop people from using a 'lag switch' to give themselves high ping, get kicked, and join a new server to instantly have access to good drops. Invisi-loot™ is a low-impact solution to high-impact metagaming. Only people who swap servers a lot would be affected greatly, and people with really shite internet (me included. I have some of the worst internet ever. 80-90% of current servers kick me for high ping, so I would definitely be one of the worst off by an Invisi-loot™ system). But between doing away with server hoppers almost completely, and inconveniencing a few people (myself included!)... I'll take stopping the server hoppers, to go, please. Vote Invisi-loot™! For a better Chernarus! Xianyu and Invisi-loot™ are not accountable to any damage to your person or lost revenue due to misuse of Invisi-loot™ and related products.

  5. There was a lot of talk about DayZ standalone having some sort of tutorials that would teach new players how avoid zombies, or how to use weapons and vehicles, or move around. Most everyone was against it, and I am too. But I do think that this leaves a problem . How the heck do they learn the controls? Most people would just say, "why don't they just look at the options screen?". My thoughts are this: In every other modern game, this is not necessary. An argument could be made that DayZ is not like every other game (it isn't) and this would affecT the experience, but IT doesn't do that. Everything is still there: the authenticity the intensity, the oh-my-gosh-what-heck-am-I-doing. it's all still there. However, there will be no cheap deaths because you didn't know how to roll or jump. This would just make it so that you won't constantly have to check the options menu as a new player to figure out how to move or aim down the sights because you forgot how to do that. It would just simply help you have a more fun, more streamlined, and less frustrating experience in DayZ. There are two things that I think should be implemented: 1. "Educational" loading screens. The first is that we show the basic controls on the loading screen the first few times you start DayZ. No More Room in Hell, an awesome Half-Life 2 mod that you should all download right now, illustrates this perfectly: So, if we applied this to DayZ, we would have something like this: Oooookaaaay.... that was little more cluttered than I had planned. Notice that I streamlined the controls a bit since the SA is doing this. A better layout would be needed to avoid the clutter, but the concept is there. It just needs to be done by someone with actual photoshopping skills. That took me two hours. It's quite sad. Note: this would have the ability to be disabled via the options menu. 2. A hint system. The second thing I suggest we do is add in a hint system similar to Left 4 Dead. The hint system would show the just the controls and nothing more. hints would be activated depending on the players actions. For example, if he finds an item, it would tell him how to interact with it. If he's near a town, it would tell him how to change stances so he could sneak. If he opens his map, it would tell him how to place a marker. Hints would only appear one or two times, or if the player disables them. Hint's would only show controls. Nothing more (I can't stress this enough). Not how to navigate a town, or avoid zombies, or how to sneak. Here's an example screenshot to show you what I mean: You're probably wondering why I want this stuff implemented. The main reason is to make a new player's experience less frustrating, confusing, and clunky because of controls. I want to make it easy to get into the game quickly without ever having to look at the options menu for the controls, while still keeping you in the dark about how to avoid threats, or repair vehicles, or use the craft items. My second reason is that one of DayZ's major criticisms as a mod right now is that it's very hard to play as newbie, not because of the zombies, or the players, or the hunger and thirst, but because new players don't really know how to control their characters and the inventory system. Even players that do look at Arma 2's controls have a tough time with the game because there are certain features in DayZ that aren't covered by Arma's control menu or are just really obscure. So tell me what you think below! If you don't think it should be implemented, give me an explanation, don't just say something dumb and obscure like, "I just don't like it", or "yure a frackin retad yu hae know idia whut day z is abot".
  6. Are you updating in the database? I know on mine, even though I have a table "cust_loadout", I have to add the loadout into the "instance" table in order for it to work. Vehicles should appear after a restart.

    Groups

I'm not trying to be a prick, but if it doesn't need to be added to the game, why are you posting it to the suggestions section? If you are looking to put together a group to do these things, the general discussion board might have been more productive. That said, yes, I would like to see bigger groups forming, but not for the wrong reasons. If groups/communities start forming on servers it should be ,for example, because managing the before-mentioned cleanliness of the water supplies would be too difficult otherwise, or because assembling vehicles is impossible without a group to help you do it. Nobody should be forced to join a group.
  8. I remember playing on a new server, server admin flew to me and gave me a lift in a chopper to my friend, since there weren't that many of us in the server, he was having troubles getting vehicles working AND my friend and I had spawned at basically opposite sides of the map. I guess he did it since I would have a car at that point as I was at a spawn for one, but none were spawning anywhere on a server that's had 7 or 8 players total.
  9. Fearless Gaming The server is a Chernarus DayZ Server, it has 100+ Vehicles, the server is updated to the version 1.7.6.1 and has Active admins. Suggestion - Vehicle Scrapping

Hello, to start off, let me set up a dramatized scene. As I was driving down the road, I accidentally popped a tire. Fortunately there was another car but needed repairs. 3 Wheels on the car was fine and I needed one. The other car had 2 fine wheels. Then I went to thinking, hell, why cant I just pull a tire off that car with my toolbox! This idea struck my head and I decided, why not put the idea out? So there is my thinking on it. Why waste a car that is junk, and scrap it into good junk to use on other vehicles! It would help people out and provide necessary industrial parts. Thank you for looking at this suggestion (if you have) and if someone had posted this topic earlier, then I am blind.
  11. Every time I save and restart to try and update the basic load out, I join my server (had to add it as a favorite on dayz commander because it wasn't showing up) and i still spawn with the default crap load out. Also while im here i might as well also ask about the user CP map. How long does it take for vehicles to spawn when you add them with your CP map?

Should i keep my private hive server up?

What map is it? Make it hardcore, its so hard to find one. I'd find a hardcore (with maybe a few extra things) Panthera or Lingor server would be awesome. With a full moon/cloudless night. All the servers I ever find have like 500000000000 vehicles with explosive armanents always day etc etc.

The Shack - a different kind of Taviana server.

Due to complications, this had to be undone. The removal of radar also removed fuel readouts, weapon selected(making throwing a grenade quite an interesting experience), damage readouts, and the like. We're working on a fix, but in the interim, we've pulled the new vehicles back out and returned setting to pre-attempt values.

    Lack of vanilla

It does seem to be hard to find decent vanilla servers nowadays. Especially on the other maps - they all seem to enjoy placing 500 vehicles around the map. I honestly don't see the point of extra vehicles, starting gear etc etc. Hell, one server i spawned on gave me everything, including a DMR. Where is the fun in that? I crept up the beach and went prone on a hill to have a look round when i was promptly sniped. To each his own i suppose but i for one will never play on a server if i see starting gear or 250+ vehicles in the title.
  16. Im on the brink of letting my server go because of lack of players. I have worked very hard on it and have added Towing/Heli lifting/Dogs/Auto refuel/Stripping vehicle parts, a bunch of new skins, donator perks, and Custom vehicles but sadly only a couple play per day. Before the server had around 25-30 players on a day almost no hackers and then one day it just stopped, and i haven't had anyone play on it yet so i have been let down in the past week and i have been trying my hardest to keep my server up and get players to join, but i guess good things don't happen to good people..... What im asking is should i keep my server up and just let it run its course or take it off? I have no idea and am pretty bummed about this. -Thanks

    Vehicles not respawning

It seems you have some bad data both vehicles and tents might take some time to correct. You may also get some complaints about tents being missing.
  18. I've played on this server, for a little over a month. I've also played on lots of others, in my 3 months of playing DayZ, and US 1446 is BY FAR the best! Admins are active and very helpful. The CDC checkpoint is there to HELP YOU, not hurt you, so if you should choose to pass through there, just follow their instructions and they'll assist you to the best of their ability. The custom buildings (including extra barracks), across the map are a special treat, and these guys have made Chernarus the way it SHOULD be (just my opinion, I know). There's no shortage of vehicles, either. If you can't find one, it's because you're not looking hard enough. If you like helicopters, you're in luck. To date, I've seen (and flown): the MH-6J, AH-6, MI-17, MI-24 (Hin D), the Huey, MH-60, and the Apache. There may be others, but I'm not sure. All in all, I don't see myself leaving this server...it's just that damn good!

The Shack - a different kind of Taviana server.

Pretty exciting day. I'm fairly sure that the fast roping script has been fixed - will be doing testing soon. Also disabled all radar on all vehicles. This has opened up the possibilities for several vehicles that were rejected due to radar in Stage 1 testing. A handful of these vehicles have been pushed into stage 2 testing, and are available for use.

    Vehicles not respawning

Hi, Please take a look at instance 6463 I'm also having problems with vehicles not respawning. Thanks a lot.
  22. Hey there, As the name suggests: I need help! Recently looked into investing in a DayZ server but first I have downloaded a piece of software that lets me run one for free off my machine. I've learnt the basic functions of this program (DayZ Sever Control Center) and I'm curious as to how this Arma II: 3D editor works? Read over some old topics and apparently this is how you add vehicles to spawns, so on and so fourth. If so, how do you spawn vehicles using this editor? If there is any other way using DayZ Server Control Center please let me know. Thanks in advance, NoobyNeedsHelp!

    DayZ 1.7.6.1 Bug List

Zombies are aggroed even if you go in proning... No use in being tactical. Also fueling vehicles atleast the little bird seems to be bugged. Was fueling it with a friend 5 jerry cans at a time and after 10-15 minutes we didnt even get 1 third of the tank full. Both happened on a private server, but atleast the zombies getting aggroed happens on all servers ive played.

    Lack of vanilla

Nobody plays vanilla because it's too hard. Why fuck around with darkness when you can get a 24/7 daylight? Why creep past zombies when you can start with a pistol? Why search endlessly for vehicles when you can have them spawn, fully repaired, in every single town? Welcome to the watered-down slurry that is new DayZ, where private servers and private loadouts are king, and the A.D.D. as fuck wannabe DayZ players rule. Can't learn to find a pistol in loot because they're brought up on this shit like CoD where your lifetime is measured in seconds and the best weapons are handed to you the moment you start playing. So they take the easy route. And goddamn, the standalone is gonna be such a culture shock. It's going to be hilarious.
