What makes you think Rocket doesn't understand what players actually want? I'm pretty sure he is fully aware what players think they want. The majority of the players want tons of military weapons and vehicles to dick around for an hour or so. It doesn't mean the game should be anything like that. They're obviously going for zombies that are much more than just a nuisance. Being core part of the game, there is no way they could reuse the same, awful zombie animations currently in the mod. 1 and 2 never stopped the mod from being succesfull. I don't really understand 4. When people say they missed their window, what exactly that means? Had they released a buggy mess with the same problems as the mod, we would have had a winner on our hands? How does that work, it doesn't make any sense to me. A fully finished DayZ standalone with MMO architecture and all basic foundation features implemented and released in December would have been ideal for sure, but if it's not ready, it's not ready. It would have sold better than it will sell whenever it comes out, but what does that mean for us players? Someone recently posted a quote by rocket saying the mod was arguably at it's best when it had 50000 players. I couldn't agree more. DayZ SA might fail but it won't be due to any of those reasons IMO. -

OMG, 400 vehicles! We definitely don't have any of those! And there definitely isn't one with 1,000,000 vehicles I saw in the server list in Commander. And I definitely don't play on them. Ok, that last one was true. -

We have added some buildings - I wouldn't call them stupid and we're careful about where we add them (to keep the content balanced). We have added vehicles - again.. all careful about keeping balance. The starting loadout is a makarov, map, toolbox. -

Have you kept your server holy by not overspawning vehicles, giving people everything they'll ever need right on spawn, or adding stupid buildings everywhere making loot super-easy to find? If not, then Daiza (the female DayZ god (who is currently mad BTW about next to no servers offering the female skin option)) is punishing you! Actually she's not, she's just like, OK, if they want to do that to my pride and joy, then enjoy combat loggers biaches!! -
What's the current state of hacking?

I've only been subject to two hacking incidents. One where 40+ players were pinned to the ground and killed by huge explosions on UK 498 ... I saw it as reasonable to combat log and saved my hide. Another where I was followed by an invisible buffoon on DE 4713 (I think it was) from the supermarket at Vybor to the ATV spawn north of NWAF. Some script called you_dont_love_me_no_more or something like that, injected through the server mission file. On other occasions it has been the consequences I have seen, mainly destroying and despawning all vehicles and tents, because the culprit can't find what they want and can't spawn anything in. What bothers me much more than hacking and probably often uses hacking as a cover or excuse? Admin abuse. Ever seen the cheat's paradise admin tools like DayZ Server Control Centre? Who needs hacks with that? Individual starting loadout editor, addition of items to player inventories, vehicle spawning ... oh and the piece de resistance? A real time map showing the positions of players, vehicles, deployables and crash sites (when it works properly) ... WTF? why the hell is that a required admin tool? -

Why DayZ will fail as a standalone game

I mean it could fail. I hope it doesn't, but it happens. Let's be honest. The Dayz mod is a lot of fun and it's a really cool idea, but if it were released as-is as a production quality game, it would be terrible. Crappy zombie AI / pathfinding, buggy, hacker ridden, easily exploitable, glitchy, poorly balanced, vast stretches of empty wilderness and boarded up homes, not many ways to interact with the environment, no purpose, not much to do, stiff animations, clunky interface, poor physics, bad vehicle handling, and a pretty crappy community (not so much you guys :D I'm talking about the hackers, combat logging pussies, and retarded 13 year olds screeching over side chat). And even the community that isn't crappy is pretty fractured. More guns. Less guns. Sniper rifles. No sniper rifles. More vehicles. Less vehicles. Melee weapons. No melee weapons. Military supplies. Less military stuff. Base building and zombie killing and PvP vs PvE. For the SA to be successfull, Rocket needs to address A LOT of these issues without creating a watered down game that doesn't please anyone. So lets home he gets inspired by his Everest trip and doesn't...I don't know...die up there. Cap'n - The DayZ map is nowhere the size of ANY state. At 225 km^2 Chernarus is about exactly the size of Martha's Vinyard, MA. -
Gamer Lounge is, simply put, a group of people who just play games for fun. Mainly DayZ, but we play others as well. We currently have a Battleye enabled server with many custom mods that require no extra downloads client side such as custom antihacks, self blood bagging, towing for vehicles, autorefuel, and more. We also have a custom version of Chenarus with many camps and increased military spawns, which I am currently creating and implementing. Our teamspeak is ts50.light-speed.com:3851 and our server is called Gamer Lounge Custom Bases Self Blood Bag & More, or just put Gamer Lounge in the filter. We only recently turned on Battleye, so the player count is quite low, but I and others hope to see whoever reads this either on the server, teamspeak, or both. If you do join the teamspeak, I would first look for iKarma (myself) and say you saw the post.

This is a new server that has just come online (around one week ago) and is looking for new active players. The server has much to offer which will be listed below and hopefully we soon have active players! What the server has to offer: - Active admins (Too sort any problems that may occur). - Friendly admins that you can talk to and not feel intimidated. - The server is monitored by Gotcha Antihack and custom battleye setting to keep hackers out! - Extra vehicles so you’re not spending hours on end running. - The server is bambi friendly and people are there to help new people to the game to get used to the gear interface and learn about the game. - 24/7 Daylight so you don’t need to worry about not being able to see. - Regular restarts (3hrs) to keep the server fresh and running at its best. (this may be changed if people think it is too short) - Chance of whitelist in the future if we have enough active people coming on who wants to play on the server. (this is another security future to keep hackers out) - The server is private hive so modifications can be made such as new building (e.g. adding a barracks at balota airfield) and many other things. - Auto vehicle re-fuelling, just pull up at a petrol station and your vehicle will re-fuel its self. (this also works with helicopters and planes) - The server will always be on the latest version of DayZ and the Arma 2 beta. - Active players can receive a custom starting load out which will include a starting pistol, food, drink and some tools/accessories. (You will receive this every time you respawn). We hope that from what you have read above that you may be interested in joining our server and hopefully becoming an active player!

A lot of the reason DayZ is easy now is to blame for the server hosters. Disable side chat? We add it again! :thumbsup: Remove spawning with a gun to reduce freshspawn pvp? We add it again! With a silencer! :thumbsup: Make vehicles harder to find and repair? We spawn 50 choppers in the middle of the street and fix all the cars too, adding an overall 1000 vehicles there to make you lag! :thumbsup: Make loot make sense? We add useless firestations and supermarkets to every town to ensure there will be PvP wherever you spawn! :thumbsup: Ban weapons that should be banned? We un-ban them and increase the spawn rate tenfold! :thumbsup: Added zombies to DayZ? Bleh! We removed those pesky and buggy zombies to make sure you can be focused on looting and PvP! :thumbsup: Edit: Just noticed the :thumbsup: has a hitch-hiker's thumb.

...like to play a mod that focuses on what dayz was like back in its beginning(April/May 2012)? That means it would be much more difficult to survive, remember when life expectancy was below 30 minutes? This could be achieved by more threatening zombies and less highend loot or additional survival features. I personally am sick of how easy this mod has gotten over the past few months with tons of servers with custom loadouts, 1000 vehicles etc. My idea would be to overhaul zombie spawn mechanics to allow for more zombies spawned especially in larger cities and increase their health(which is currently only 4500 blood). My tests have shown that zombie count can be atleast doubled without much FPS loss. At the beginning of dayz it wasnt uncommon to have 1000 zombies spawned on a full server. It might also be possible to move zombies to the server(or to a headless client for even more zombies, but that would require server owners to purchase a second arma copy so it isnt pratical) so that client FPS is much higher, would also make it possible to clear areas of zombies completely for some time or add wandering zombie hordes that could raid cities. I remember when you had to actually sneak through a village so you dont attract any zeds, now you just run through cherno and loose the zeds following you after a while. There are of course other ideas to spice up DayZ a bit like diseases(I believe that is a confirmed SA feature?) or a weight system so you think twice about carrying an AS50 in your backpack. Would love to hear some thoughts if there are still people left in the community who play DayZ since the beginning and feel the same way as I do.

Your very much caught up in the semantics or wording and focusing on that. I remember when the DC shootings were occurring and everyone was calling them "snipers" despite the fact they were shooting from inside 200m. "Anti Material Rifle" is a classification given to higher calibre rifles that may be effective against vehicles. Does that mean that they no longer serve other purposes such as extreme range target shooting? No. That means they have another possible use, such as blowing out an engine on a Humvee. They are, in fact, still a sniper rifle. Carlos Hathcock, one of the best snipers in history, even used a mounted machine gun with a butterfly trigger and scope to engage targets at long range while in Vietnam. At that point even that weapon was being used in a sniping format. A .338 Lapua Magnum held the distance record for longest sniper shot... you can't say that because its higher calibre it is no longer a sniper rifle. For me, a sniper rifle is a rifle designed to be used at long distance. A Sniper Rifle is a rifle that is used by a Sniper that is also a rifle. For long range shooting it can be a Barrett M98 or M107...hell, If you made an accurized AKM with a 10 power scope threw some Ghillie mesh on it and shot people at 1000 meters would you still call it an assault rifle?

Everytime I try looking for a server, the only ones that come up are servers with hundreds of vehicles, always-daytime, ect. I just wanna play DayZ the way it used to be. Just normal, original DayZ. What are some great servers that still do this?? -
Nobody's, it's the spawn point of it, nearby the white textured one. Usually I destroy them on sight. To give more spawn space for better vehicles. Someone's property is another case. With rare exceptions, I leave it as is.

Of course you can do with your server what you want. But do not call it DayZ, when it's not DayZ. 1000 vehicles, tanks, jets, no zombies = not much left huh?...:( -
Been playing on this server now for about a month, iv tried other servers but for some reason keep coming back to this one. There are some friendly players and if you ask nicely enough am sure you will get help.. Admins are always on to sort things out when it goes t!ts up. And as far as i can tell, I haven't seen any admin abuse. The Friendly Ai and Bandit Ai (bots) are relay will balanced and add a good challenge for any 1. There's 100 vehicles + custom crash site. So all in all it gets a 8/10 from me.. Keep it up guys...

I also play with 12-18 fps, and on 1152x864 resolution. You have a noticeable disadvantage with these settings - it makes it hard to see what's going on around you and to make out the details, and so your thinking/reaction times are definitely affected. Further, my graphics card doesn't render stuff at a distance either, so I will not see players, zombies, crash-sites and vehicles that others in my group can spot. Additionally, I live 3000km away from the nearest EU servers, so my ping is 120 compared to more local players with 20-60 ping; the extra lag makes a noticeable difference. This kind of adversity affects your play-style and can decrease the amount of PvP practise you actually get. It can lower your esteem and motivation too (which is why you're asking this question). For these reasons your PvP skill level might plateau below average. So even if all other aspects are equal, you are more likely to lose a fight. However, since there are dozens of other important factors determining a fight's outcome, then it is still possible to win more fights than you lose. You just need to adjust your tactics to ensure you have other advantages, such as surprise, position, cover and weapon superiority, before engaging. Carefully choose who you engage and when, and try to ensure the fight is over before they know what hit them. Also try to broaden the definition of how you 'win'. It's a small victory, on a busy server, every time you: · repair a vehicle without being seen · find and raid a camp without being caught · raid a crash-site without being sniped · manage to get gear from a hospital, supermarket or airfield successfully · seeing a group/clan before they see you and making the right decision not to engage · stealth across the map without being spotted · picking up new spawns along the coast without being attacked · blood bagging a stranger without being double-crossed · hiding your vehicle for 2 weeks without it being stolen etc Having said all that, if death-matching in the cities is the only thing you want to get out of the game, then those measures of success won't work for you and you're also playing in the hardest scenario to gain other advantages. In that case I would suggest that playing solo versus being in a group is probably the largest single determining factor of success. If you're death-matching solo and sick of being killed or never having good equipment, join a group. The game is heavily biased in that way.

I think I actually saw you in a Red Orchestra server once... it was unexpected. But, I don't understand why this scope view isn't in ArmA 3, there is Picture in Picture when in vehicles.
