OP is right on his observations, though I think most users/players are after the same features more or less. It's not a matter of different directions but more of a features/polishing race. For example, why do most people play DayZero? Cause of the optimization that (as I've heard)is much more pc friendly and gives more fps/less stuttering to the end user. If the vanilla mod had this kind of optimization then there wouldn't be a need for DayZero. Also some extra features, such as vehicle towing, or vehicle lift with a heli (talking about a balanced system, can't lift a ural with a little bird obviously), part scavenging from vehicles, fuel siphoning from vehicles and some kind of base/stash building (big discussion, won't elaborate, you get my point though) are the main reasons people prefer one mod over the vanilla one. Features as spawning with an as50 and 5 antibiotics in an alice pack, or AI bases with high end gear, aliens and unicorns are out of the question (for me at least). So my point is, if the vanilla mod had all the above in a thoughful and balanced way there would be no need for the other 50 mods and the community wouldn't be as fragmented as is it now. But in order for this to happen, the vanilla mod needs support, both from the community and from the SA team. Community needs to get more organized (some kind of new features forum section, dedicated to this, strictly no offtopic allowed, no memes, no thread derailing, just feedback, brainstorming and more polls) and SA team needs to be there for the mod. Can't have months passing waiting for the approval of a new patch and litterally having the mod's devs chasing the SA team for a reply. This is just wrong. If it keeps working this way, expect the vanilla mod to fall behind the other mods much more than it already has. And this is the opinion of a person that has only played the vanilla mod and will keep doing so (looking forward to 1.7.7.2). -

The problem is: 13% of the players are so busy playing tit-for-tat (or quid-pro-quo for the more professional of you) that they don't play DayZ at all, but simply scour for servers that give them free stuff and lots of vehicles in some manner or another. 12% of the players are high-and-mighty assholes (not entirely unlike myself) and immediately drop a nuclear F-bomb every time a DayZ update comes out, cursing this-or-that feature, claiming Dean ruined the game, and play previous versions. 60% of the players are playing so many different mods (which are ALL awful in my opinion) with no public hive system which further divides us. 14% of players play on 3-person private hives 1% of players are on public hives... <--- the best and smallest group. -
I have tried to play breaking point multiple times, and everytime i have given up in disgust. Its just to glitchy and full of bugs for me to find enjoyable. Thats for me though. Some people have no problems with the bugginess. That being said I personally find Overwatch a much more enjoyable mod. It is very similar in that it has heaps of new weapons and vehicles and the like but without the glitchiness that is Breaking Point. So i guess short answer to your question, Yes, overwatch is better IMO.

Every time I see a new dev blog or footage of the game running at an event, the frame rate still sucks. I thought the two main goals were to sort out hacking and frame rate... yet it seems worse than ever and I really doubt they'd be showing the game off on crap rigs. There is no excuse for it either, they blame the A.I but whenever I turn the A.I off it's still really bad and I just don't get why, the game isn't exactly cutting edge graphically and there isn't a lot going on in the world. The whole world isn't rendered at once, so....... what is the major impact on frame rate? It seems to me that every game that goes CPU heavy really struggles, I have a 4770K and my framerate still sucks in Dayz, in fact I've noticed no difference coming from a first gen I7. Yet games that have gone GPU focused like BF3 and Crysis 3 just run amazing for how they look, they push the boundaries and BF3 has far more going on in the vast maps it has with 64 players on screen at once with destruction and vehicles everywhere. Like if you cannot make a good engine that runs well, why not just buy one? It isn't like you cannot get other engines to do what you want. They can all do vast open worlds now with realistic bullet physics and vehicles etc etc. The more I see the Dayz SA footage, the more disappointed I am and with ARMA 3 running like crap as well, I just don't where these empty promises of improved frame rates are going. Just looking at the "live" gameplay you did of ARMA 3 recently, all I noticed is your framerate is about 20... looked horrible. On my PC the game runs horrible too, have to start turning things down for like an increase of just 5 FPS. I have a 4770k 16gb ram, installed to an SSD and I've just bought a 780 to replace my 670SLI and nope...... frame rate still sucks on both ARMA 3 and Dayz.

Sure hope so. These russians are stuck whit that shitty arma2 engine (are they still releasing patches to it in weekly basis LOL), so no proper basebuilding is going to happen. Even zombies still look and behave like shit on latest video. Is the day/night cycle back in you fucked up earlier? Vehicles? Naah, lets focus on that retaded radio thing. Surprised if they get this out this year in any form. -
Wouldn't this just give an even bigger advantage to the groups that take all the vehicles and weapons and stash them around the north of the map and just sit and kill new spawns in the bottom half of the map?

I've been playing dayz for a while, I recently joined the dayz+ server 67.228.177.32.3408 and I was kicked by the admin with no warning for "PVP" (I got that tell from him/her after he kicked me and I logged back in 20 minutes later) when there is no note in the description of the server when you enter or in the server title. There's absolutely nothing that says no pvp and again with no warning, he just kicked. I suggest not playing on this server if you plan to do anything other than drive vehicles around. I've never had any issues with any server before this.

Me and my clan have been playing on this server. I don't have any minor issues... just one major issue. There are way TOO many vehicles. Everywhere. Maybe once the server populates it will thin our but right now, this is too easy. -

ESP = Extra Sensory Perception. It's a term used for "Unexplainable" (and fake) psychics who claim to see the future and whatnot. ESP "Hacks" in ArmA allow you to see other players/equipment/vehicles on the map. -

I happened upon a location that according to the Dayzdb map looked like a gas station, but it wasn't the symbol that indicates a fuel tank. Obviously there was no tank to refill jerry cans. I think I read or saw a video once that showed you could hover over these with a heli to refuel. Is that the case? Does it also refuel vehicles if you drive up close?

They actually didn't 'liberate' them from the Russians, they liberated them from the ChZdk. Russia entered in at a very late stage towards the end of the war in order to capture one of the top-members of the Chedakis and prosecute him in Russia. But still, if the US military was in some way involved, most of the weapons we have now would make sense, albeit with a low spawn rate (There are fucking HMMWVs everywhere anyway, but no US military zombies or outfits, unless you count the pilots who wear British gear but fly in USMC vehicles.)

I don't believe they can pull you from vehicles. They can however knock you from bikes, ATVs, etc. I have also been hit in a vehicle with glass. But you pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Nope, read patch notes, this was put in a while ago. Zombies can (after a little bit) break windows on vehicles, hit players in vehicles that are missing windows, and even pull players out of vehicles missing windows.

How do you add Custom Vehicle Spawns on a Private Hive server?

Pretty much what it says on the tin; I'm wanting to add aditional spawn locations, where specific vehicles can spawn, such as along the coast or around airfields. I've seen it done on several servers already, so I know it is possible. So far, Ihave a mission.sqf that contains a number of vehicles in locations around Chernarus. and I know that you have to edit the vehicles table in the SQL database to do this. I currently host a Vilayer server running their DayZ package, and they have several tools for manipulating vehicles; however they're mostly regarding removing existing vehicles and adding vehicles in random locations. Also, one of the things I am wondering is if there's an efficient way to get the spawn positions into the database without having to do them all by hand, one by one. Which by the look of things I'm going to have to do so I guess for future reference. Any help or advice would be appreciated. -
