  1. When I was first introduced to DayZ I think I played it the way it was intended to be played, and not how I eventually came to play it. For the most part I stuck to first person perspective and worked within that because DayZ was, in my opinion at the time, supposed to be immersive, a simulation, and a survival game. The server we played on also had no crosshairs and a full day night schedule that they switched around so it was sometimes night when I was playing. Those first few weeks had me seriously enjoy the game. Back then Zombies made me nervous. I could hear them all around me but I couldn't always pinpoint their location. Something happened though, and I started to play in 3rd person. I think it was dealing with people who were on servers that allowed it. 3rd person became default and Zombies lost the little bit of fear they generated. I could now use 3rd person to see them around corners or over obstacles without agroing them. I could see when one ran up behind me and didn't have to look over my shoulder to make sure. It didn't matter that the mod I was playing had stances for peeking around corners because I could just see everything with 3rd person and the minimal movement of the "peek" stance didn't alter that view hardly at all so it was never used where as before I used it all the time. The game lost a lot for me. Day/Night is the same way. My friend had mostly played on a server where the admins just switched to day any time they felt like it so it never really got dark. We then played on a server and ended up with it being full night, overcast, and after the moon had set. He couldn't see a foot in front of his face. I introduced him to the beauty of weapons with flashlights, glowsticks, and most importantly, Road Flares. We had some vehicles and using them at night was much more difficult. Night pickup with a helicopter? Not so easy. With a road flare tossed out to illuminate the landing zone? Much easier, but it ALSO gave away your position in a big way as did turning on the spotlights and headlights on vehicles. It adds a lot, just like first person perspective.

Nice work! Would be nice to see some more suited off road vehicles like a Lada Niva or Suzuki SJ anyway Great work!

  4. I'm a first person only kind of guy too, it really adds to the tension and overall improves the whole experience for me. But there are some flaws to first person that need to be addressed. and hopefully they already have been. Peeking over/around walls, Arma 3 has the new stances which look to work great but i've not seen much more than passing comments about this for the standalone that have led me to believe we may not have the same variety of movement. Maybe one of the guys that have played the pre alpha could comment on this. Vehicles, certain vehicles have a pretty severe blind spot caused by the roof support beam which in real life you would naturally tilt your head to see around. They could add the ability to tilt your body with the Q and E keys while in a vehicle. this would also help when piloting a heli, being able to tilt and look down would really improve things greatly. Reversing, we need working mirrors, again arma 3 has this so im hopeful standalone will too. And as GoldenPSP mentioned some kind of steadycam effect for bikes and Atv's, never really thought of this but i guess i just got used to the idea of these vehicles being powered by a washing machine. Personally i'd want all servers to be first person only, no crosshair, no waypoints, no death messages and when you first spawn in a hand comes out the screen and slaps you in the face a few times. Having these as optional just makes the game easier which IMO goes against the original aim of creating a brutal and unforgiving survival experience. I doubt this will happen though so i just hope they will work to improve first person and in doing so encourage more people to play on first person only servers.
  5. I would like to respectfully disagree, at least a little. I do like and prefer first person, even when driving most vehicles. But there are some vehicles that translate pretty badly to a computer game, and it can make them very difficult to deal with in first person. This is primarily the small vehicles, motorcycle, ATV, bicycle. Try driving any of these, especially offroad, in first person and it becomes an exercise in frustration. Now yes even IRL the ride gets pretty bouncy. But also IRL our bodies, eyes etc have an amazing ability to steady our view quite a bit in the midst of the bouncy ride. But in game its much more like a fixed view. If there was a way to have a bit of a "steadycam" effect when driving these vehicles, I'd be all for it. Otherwise I find these particular ones mostly usable only in 3rd person. The only other area is when backing up. Again IRL I can shift my entire torso, bend around and get a good view out of the back of the vehicle, that simply isn't achievable in game. But this is less of an issue than the above one and could be dealt with.
  6. Fraggle (DayZ)

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)

Don't worry, Dean considers Dyslexi a personal friend and he also now has access to the testing as well as the discussions surrounding that, the YT'ers don't. My two cents: 3rd person view should either be removed or restricted to minimise the way it's used for exploiting, playing only in 1st person dramatically changes the tactics you need to use and adds to the game. We now have a 3D model of the player and all of the gear in the inventory so checking out your new raincoat can be done there. If some players decide they're not happy with that then they'll need to go and find another game, trying to make a game that suits everyone never works, tough decisions need to be made at the top in order to avoid DayZ becoming yet another game that tries to please everyone to maximise sales. In those situations, everyone loses out. The issue with giving players too much choice is that many choose the path of least resistence, hence the popularity of servers with silly amounts of starting gear and hundreds of vehicles. The SA will be a more focussed/standardised experience and some of these decisions need to be taken out if the admins hands to avoid the watered down version of the game most people are now playing.

    DayZ : Aftermath Mod

Updates on AftermathI have just completed the very first test of the new system regarding Zombies on my local server (running on my machine which chews performance) I'll save all the technical bullshit and just say this.... Main City (Elektro/Cherno)250-350 Zombies (OBVIOUSLY just numbers for testing)Zero additional FPS Drop Perfectly Fine Server FPSZombies spawn and despawn from BUILDINGS not from Players, meaning a entire city can be cleared. As soon as the set range from zombie to all nearest players is complete, the Zed despawns into the NEAREST buildingAs soon as another player or that player returns, the Zombies return in the same fashion.Rule book officially blown up. Hi All, First off, a big thanks to everyone for your support; we reached 4000 members today! I can see this growth continuing to snowball as the word slowly starts to reach the masses. While the rest of the team has been busy creating amazing content, I've been creating some pretty cool places for you to explore and discover. Soon, you will need to cut down a tree/bush or even break up a rock to reveal a hidden cave entry. I've now also created some bunkered rooms at various locations, only accessible by using explosives or heavy weaponry. You may or may not find some interesting loot in these locations. I've also started work on a few more hidden areas around the map; keeping in mind that no one has found any of the original hidden areas as yet. Well at least, no one has reported finding any... We had a bit of a brainstorming session in regards to the house/base building last night and I can tell you that one idea in particular is going to blow your socks off. No other mod has this particular idea, nor have we ever heard of anyone else even using such a method. I can't wait to reveal more about it soon!! So what's the rest of the team up to? Rossy and Deadneck are flat out coding new things everyday, and coming up with some pretty cool features and ideas along the way. The 3D gods, Sparlin and Ari are continuing to manufacture miracles in the way of vehicles, weapons, misc items and eventually some new buildings. Bungle is working on numerous projects such as the GUI, custom food models and other things. Mimiick has been creating some nice PR videos to be released shortly, quite entertaning from what I have witnessed so far. Cyberbandit is playing Minecraft, and dropping in whenever we plead for help (which is often). Maca134, the new kid on the block has just completed a rather amazing base building system. It's extremely user friendly and sooo easy to use. Additionally, we will be rebranding Aftermath soon to something a little more professional. So if you log onto the forums and it looks a little different, you now know why. That's all from me, see you about!
  8. not sure if its te right forum but in support i wasnt getting a reply Ok i read around and found to fix #85 you had to edit something in the battleye folders which i did and it works for some vehicles, but now for example when using the apache or a10 one or two of the weapons on them will kick you with createvehicle 17# or 27#. what do i need to do to fix them? thanks

    Lone wolf tips?

when you are playing solo you don't really need to go to NWAF or stary or other hotspots..you are happy with your enfield/ak. just collect a kit to hunt, a bigger backpack, at least 3 water bottles and go bushes, search for camps and vehicles..there you'll have the weapon you need and without major risks. the best thing you can do is find a tent and a ghillie and become invisible.i watch NEAF from the treeline and sometimes go to the cornershop. i go to berezino when i'm out of medical supplies or at cherno at night, the apartments hospital is easy to reach even in the dark and without aggroing too many infected. behaving this way i didn't have too much fun, but i reached over 100 days with the best gear you can find..just with a couple of camp raids.
  10. Statik (DayZ)

    Dayz walking simulator.

I've taken a shine to the public hive again, and have been avoiding vehicles. I've had more fun in the past few days sulking through the forest being a hermit, then I would blasting onto the airfield in a vehicle. You also said it makes zombies less of a threat... wot? Even though they have been buffed in 1.7.7.1, they're still easy mode compared to what they should be. I also feel walking is part of DayZ. Long treks through the forest, jogging along roads, that is what DayZ the mod it is, not the speeding around, outrunning zombies, and getting loot fast.
  11. Yes! I love first person, especially in DayZ it adds so much to the immersion. Sadly most of the community doesn't give two shits about immersion or realism, otherwise private hives wouldn't all consist of huge amounts of vehicles and spawning with military grade weapons. I recently played on a first person only server on DayZero, it had no side chat and proper dark nights. It was extremely scary to loot Cherno, and I almost shat my pants when someone fired their m16. I haven't had an expierence like that since the early days of DayZ.
  12. We don't own the server... though we did own your base when we shot up your vehicles, heard you donated more to buy a roof which is cool with me :) Means the server stays up longer. 8/10 my ass. 10/10 from me and my clan. Best server out there that keeps true to the Vanilla DayZ immersion aspect. You can donate for some stuff that helps people who can't play 24/7 like iron domes and some simple load-outs. All-in-all, this server is great for bandits and heroes alike.
  13. If we have a FOV slider on dayz, i will always play on first person, but for now third person because of the disadvantages i get if i play in first, but in vehicles i always go in first.
  14. Even if third person remains it should always be off in vehicles. There is NO argument supporting why it should be possible or has a place whilst driving or flying. Anyways, third person is easy mode. Get rid of it! :)

Servers to play on as starter

First of all dayz is about planning on getting everything. Secondly, is this server even a public hive? Cause it looks like a 2623236223 vehicles and 766785757 guns server. Dayz is not about gearing up in 1 hour. If you want that, go play Wasteland mission on vanilla Arma 2. If you want to find yourself a server, use Dayzcommander and get to work by trying out every server that has things you want in name. But I recommend all the dayz harshness at public hive at first.

    Constant fps drops

If there are no other servers like it, it's because they removed the things that bogged the server down. Too vehicles, buildings and scripts can hurt a servers performance pretty easily.

  21. Tired of killing an admin, and randomly dying because he couldn't handle you? Well, that stops here! If your looking for a nice and friendly group of people then you've come to the right place, when it comes to our admins we keep everything professional and sleek. We have not abusive admins that spawn shit in for shitz and giggles. If you do find a administrator abusing then you can contact me on teamspeak, and an admin will have it dealt with accordingly. (: We here at Killing Fields try to make the gaming experience for new and experienced DayZ players as wholesome as we can. We have added all kinds of things to keep you occupied, from AI all the way to Helicopter Lifting and Towing. We visioned that in a zombie apocalypse that vehicles wouldn't be that hard to find, but, still a bit of a challenge. So, we made it so you can get a vehicle fairly quickly if your looking for one, if not, then you probably won't find one. It's not like the easter egg hunts that you mom used to spoon-feed you on when you were seven years old. Also, I would like to add that we have cleared all the roads to help you guys navigate around the map better. If you feel like you would like something cool added to the server and it would benefit the server as a whole then please don't hesitate to ask me on our teamspeak (ts.the-lost.info:9988). Well, I hope you like the little introduction and hope to see some people on our server soon. P.S. - New mapping will be added soon to help players better loot in our server. P.S.S. - Our donation loadouts and base prices will be up on the website soon, so, if you're looking to donate please check our forums. Thanks for reading. :)

  23. All server have 44 or 45 vehicles, including 4 choppers (AH6X, MH6J, UH1, MI17) and a plane, the AN2 (but this one may not spawn on every server)
  24. Hey, Sure, at server start, check your hive log or your arma RPT, you ll see the vehicles spawning.
  25. Hello, Mydayz was a private community that hosted four vanilla Dayz servers, that shared the same database and were heavily protected against cheaters. It had lots of players, all the servers were almost full at prime time. The main feature it offered was their four completely vanilla Dayz servers. We all know private servers +1000 vehicles spawn with bazooka are ruining Dayz. So I am sure there is a lot of people who would like to play in a private vanilla community, to avoid cheaters and with active non-player admins. So, could anyone provide something like this? I see people complaining about their servers being empty, but there is no one ******* community that offers this. Thank you.
