A sleep/tiredness mechanic? Sounds great, but bollocks to doing it 'live' whilst you're logged in. A far better method of doing it would be to make your character sleep before logging off, with the location/situation you sleep in affecting your 'Tiredness' next time you log in. Preventing people from logging out without first making their character sleep would also be a nice way to get around the combat logging/ghosting problem without setting arbitrary time limits on how often someone can log into servers; the 'going to sleep' animation could take 20 seconds to play out (i.e. prepare the sleeping area, lie down and assume a sleeping position) before logging out, meaning that you'd have to find a safe spot where you're not being shot at to put your character to sleep. Absolutely not practical in the middle of a firefight. How tired you are when you log back in would depend on how you're sleeping (see below) and the time you spend logged out of the servers. That way, losing connection for five minutes doesn't result in your character being instantly exhausted, because that's daft and annoying. Instead, you should be logged out for <insert suitable time frame> before the tiredness of your character is affected. Additionally, how tired your character is could affect things such as stamina, shooting accuracy, resistance to illness etc. Tiredness would be something else to consider along with hunger and thirst and stimulants, such as energy drinks/certain drugs, could give you a quick but small decrease to your tiredness level. Sleep Types and how they affect tiredness Sleep in a bed in a house = Rested Sleep in a tent/sleeping bag = Tired Sleep rough (i.e Outdoors without a tent or bedding) = Exhausted

Combat logging ruins the game. I got shot and killed last night. The guy told me to put my hands up, I did not comply (for some reason). I couldn't see him (night server) so I turned a little bit to try and see where on earth he was (my guess is he was a gamma cheater, I am not). I heard a half-assed "free...." before I was one shotted (somehow, from behind I assume, and I had on a ballistic helmet). And I believe it was a server hopper since I had completely scanned the area. But I could have combat logged as soon as he said (put your hands up). I always give players the benefit of the doubt, so I like to be fair. However being that I was on top of one of the construction buildings, there was only one logical place he could have been, and no way he could have seen me without his gamma jacked up. So to complete the list: -Combat Logging -Server Hopping -Ghosting -Gamma Cheaters All ruin the game and how it's supposed to be played. While I wouldn't dare tell the devs what should and should not be done (stability and optimization still trumps these right now, imo), these are definitely game ruiners for the fair players among us. No way homeboy could have seen me creeping on top of a construction building without his gamma way up. And no way he was in the vicinity since I was up high and scanning my surroundings specifically to identify movement. If he was playing without any of the above cheating/crutch methods, then he should be renamed Ryu Hayabusa.

i see no ability involved with ghosting, go play mario if u got no skills If they would just put a 30 minute timer for rejoining a server that u logged out of during combat, all this would go away. To be honest, the lack of feedback from devs on this matter have made me worry for the long time health of the game. Im all for getting the more important things done, but the ghosting and combat logging has almost ruined this game before so i would think they would at least post a future solution to the problem.

OK OK STOP I am this fellow experts partner in crime. He is the only player I consider to be in the same universe when it comes to a combination of reflexes, intelligence and superiority of character. I do agree itchy, on the logging and ghosting aspects. We have been killed by a couple of cheats very occassionaly. These people have to use cheats in effect to counter our god given abilities. As a fellow absolute expert in all aspects of this game, I share your frustration in dealing with the comments of other players that can't comprehend our level of genius. I would suggest I am a better sniper than you itchy - with the accuracy of an atomic clock - but I think you probably edge me in hand gun tactics.

Combat logging and ghosting is bad. But arrogance is bar far one of the worst human traits. Therefore fuck you, and your thread. Your ego is so large it wouldn't surprise me if you just lost the guy you were shooting at and someone else came up behind you and shot, seeing as you have no proof whatsoever that he actually logged. Also im pretty sure that anyone who was a "DayZ master" would know that blasting at a guy in a forest at distance from one of the biggest towns on the coast is a crappy play regardless. EDIT : I now realize that this guy is most likely a troll. If so im leaving my response anyway because im interested to see what response it gauges.

Server hopping and ghosting is bullshit, but this is an alpha version. I think you'll spawn at your savehouse/camp after logging off in the future.
-
1 - Ok, so you want it put back to the way Arma 2 was then. 2 - There aren't that many complaints on the hopping to gear up, it's more the Combat logging and Ghosting which was just as common in the Mod for hived servers. Loot system is fine, no need for loot to respawn every 5 mins, just adds lag. 1 Spawn per session would be far more realistic. 3 - Hit Tab once in a while. there is an indicator telling you if you're Healthy, Hungry, Thirsty, Bleeding as well as the notifications on the bottom left of the screen. Learn to look after your character correctly instead of wanting a HUD 4 - Are you for real? Guess what dude. I'm regenerating blood right now.... in real life. Now for the shocker...... so are you. 5 - Again.... are you for real? Devs have done excellent work so far because if you put all those enter-able buildings in ArmA 2 then you would be lucky to get 5 FPS in the cities. Your system spec is not as great as you believe for this type of game so really I think you're doing well getting what you're getting now. Also, engine is massively different and better optimized regardless of your beliefs. 6 - Agreed, I'm one that carefully selects targets based on threat or situation but KoS is a legitimate playstyle and they bought the game so they can play it however they want within the confines of the parameters. In other words, don't script. And in reference to your final passage. Making suggestions and participating in discussion/debate in a mature manner will get you a lot further than Bitching, Moaning, QQ'ing and stamping your feet like a horrible little snot goblin. This is Early Access Alpha, time will fix most things as time does for Whisky. Be patient and Calm your tits.

20 minutes are way too long for locking someone up on a server. Besides your lack of talent for gaming-development i assume it would be fairly complicated to implement something like a "combat situation" when you are "shot at" in case you arent hit. So there would have to be a certain range in which the enemys bullet hits the ground / an object in order for you ro engange in "combat". Nevermind tho - im certain the devs/rocket gonna implement a system in which "ghosting" isn´t tolerated and combat logger (eventually) get their well deserved punishment.

Personal shit-chat / trolling aside here, to the actual topic: I find ghosting very irritating or the worst things you can do right now without using cheat software (no, I don't consider that "hacking" unless you would use the word "hacking" in a rather liberal way) simply because it's, well ... retarded. It's not playing fair even by DayZ game standards. It can be annoying. It is annoying. The pure concept is somewhat funny and annoying at the same time as I try to picture people sitting in front of their PC, going "LOL lets fuk shit up and own dem nubs!" mentally or worse verbally as they try to ghost out or into a situation, w/e. But guess what? Why even complain anyway, annoying or not. Or why complain when there's a solution or fix on the horizon. The thing to fix this very soon would be private hives I guess.

You are, Wukey, you are. All you have to do is say it to yourself three times each morning, and it will be true! But to the OP, all I'm hearing in your posts is that you are all that, and that you don't like combat logging and ghosting. Oh, and you got killed by someone and you don't like that either. Thanks for sharing, because what we really need is another whiney post from a butthurt player about something that the devs are already fully aware of and working on. So once again, thanks. PS: I am a Lance fan. Sue me!

i dont doubt your prowess at Dayz even if you have to say it yourself but i am doubting you forum abilities i mean come on couldnt this post be placed in one of the already large amount of ghosting combat logging threads that we already have???

Ok.... So after reading through it a couple of times, shotgunning a RedBull, reading it once more and pausing briefly to wipe the blood that has started flowing from my left eye I think I can translate this........ Maybe  Basically somewhere there is a request for more PvE style servers. A suggestion of roaming zombie hordes along the highways. More Zeds in cities to keep the bandito's occupied. Disappointment at the current KoS meta and complaints of Combat Logging, server hopping and ghosting. It is finished off with an invitation to join a server by the name of 'Modern Vikings' but if you don't play nice (e.g KoS) then he's going to set the boys on you..... I think

Lock player characters to a server for a set time period
seannybgoode replied to seannybgoode's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
TerrorRO 1 . People will adjust to the server situation. What's the problem with being stuck on a server for 24/h in clan v clan? There's no problem with this. DayZ is a game played over many days anyway. 2. People don't play at night because it's difficult, and there's no reason to when you can just hop servers as the sun goes down. People need to play at night or the game is broken. It is intended that people play at night, yet noone does. Gamma should be locked too, IMHO, but darkness that is fair to everyone is a tough thing to do since monitors are different and it depends on your environment. 3. Regarding loot farming, fixed how? Locking servers IS a fix, along with a fix for many other issues. TBH, you sound like a loot farmer who doesn't want to lose his edge. 4. A delay before logout is not a fix for ghosting, it may hamper it, but it will certainly not end the practice. All in all, server hopping needs to end. Period. -
Only way to really fix these issues is with private hives.
Mullucka replied to Mullucka's topic in General Discussion
So after a bit of reading these are the best ideas I have heard so far: To combat server hopping:Player’s accrue time penalty for each server change, time penalties stack. To prevent combat logging/ghosting:Player’s character remains on location for 30 seconds after logging To prevent ghosting:If a player attempts to immediately log back in to a server where they were in proximity to a firefight they will be sent to the coast; this in conjunction with 1 and 2. These aren’t my ideas, these are ideas that I have seen in the forums. If all of these were implemented together it could solve this problem. -

Personally I don't like private hives, I like have the freedom to choose any server and play with different people every time. But what is gonna happen when we get vehicles and tents/houses, ammo crates? Are they going to be persistent over every server? If we have all our stuff on one server then we will end up staying on the same server anyway. So then what really is the point of having a persistent character across servers? I know some of you will say that you had many many cars and camps across different servers, well good for you. Issues instantly fixed with private hives: combat logging, loot hopping, ghosting. It's a nice idea Rocket, and maybe you have a great way to fix all these issues, but the whole community has brainstormed this and I don't see any amazing ideas. Thoughts? -

I hope you are right, bad_mojo. But, I doubt the SA will go far enough to eliminate the benefits of a private hive when it comes to server hopping. Assuming you can find a good private hive server (definitely not an easy task), server hopping (looting & ghosting) are 100% eliminated. Unless Rocket is willing to make players wait 15 minutes (or more) between logging in on different servers (every single time--not some kind of scaled system), public hive servers will never achieve anywhere close to that kind of server hopping prevention. I seriously doubt that will ever happen (too many will raise hell about even 3 minutes). Not having that prevention is a huge price to pay just so you can play on different servers, and take the gear on your body with you. I will not pay that price even if that means I have to turn my server back on. -
For one, the question is dumb. "i think its unfair to the more stealth player." I don't care about the "more stealth player" and even if I did, I don't think that combat logging is unfair to him, because if he is "more stealth" then that tends to imply to me that he could kill a target before it was able to combat log. If they can't fix ghosting in, which they almost certainly can't, then I don't think combat logging needs to be 'fixed.' It's two sides of the same coin.

Combat logging - 30 second logout timer Server hopping & ghosting - 10-15 minute cooldown on server changing These can easily be fixed without causing too much inconvenience to the legitimate players. -

Hetstaine is right, but that only really matters for people that play on those servers. I've played on and ran my own private servers nearly 100% of the time I played the mod. All it took was a week of hackers gone wild and I gave up on the public hive. The combat logging, ghosting and loot hopping are all being worked on with the same fix so that's not really an excuse for wanting a private hive. I want a private hive because it gives a much better sense of community. You have admins that can get rid of hackers/exploiters and it provides, (to me anyway), much more fun. Hunting that one SOB who killed me three or four times over the course of two weeks and finally shooting him in the back of the head with a lee enfield before I took his AS50, (I'm looking at you Turtle). Helping groups of new players and watching them form bandit groups or medic groups, watching that break apart when the entire server goes to war against each other. Fun nights with ATV races through the woods, Hunger Games style hunts around Devil's Castle, too much fun to list. You can't find that when you only run into random people every day. For the next few months as the game grows, its fun exploring all the new stuff. After a while, once survival becomes much easier, having a solid community to bond with over life and death just makes the game better to me. Just being able to edit the day/night cycle to an 18 hour day so I can play on a local server during the week and get a good mix of day and night and not just all of one or other is huge for me. I would never play on a 24/7 day server as I love night more, but not so much I don't ever want to see the sun. -

You're completely miscategorizing private hive servers. Nothing prevents a private hive from having 'default' public hive settings, except completely eliminating the issues of ghosting and server hopping, and drastically reducing performance issues with the public hive, like how long it can take for dropped items to spawn at your feet. While I like the public hive setup for casual and moderate gamers, I'm sure there are many who would prefer a more realistic situation of a private hive - everyone who plays there, earned all their gear there - no exceptions. It's no different than Counter-Strike servers that tracked progress and had a sense of community a decade ago. If a private hive server permanently goes down, so what? How is that different than some random death anywhere? You start over. If it's full/busy, either wait, which doesn't take that long in 40-player servers, or either start up another character in a private hive as an alternate, or play general public hive anywhere. Just because you don't like the idea, why bash his? The public hive isn't going away, so you're free to continue playing there while he plays on a private hive at no negative effect to you. -

Combat logging solution. Thirty second timer for logout. Ghosting solution, two to five minute timeout on rejoining a server. Long enough to make ghosting a bad idea but not long enough to make server crashes or other unexpected reasons for leaving and rejoining a huge burden. Server hopping solution...got me there. -

The persistent character is a way to minimize loss from a server being shut down or otherwise unavailable. Sure you would lose all of your stored gear and vehicles, but at least you can walk away with the gear you have on your character. I always liked having multiple servers but it did get confusing from time to time and if they at least minimized server hopping I would be fine with a hive. Private servers do nothing to stop combat logging though since they can just wait or join another server and come back later and still have a all their gear on the original server. If they added a timer to rejoining a server ghosting would not be effective so that fix is fairly easy, the hardest fix is server hopping. -
round these parts, we call this here concept "ghosting". Tis a well known and hated issue. Yu ain't tha first...

How to Properly Eliminate Server Hopping, Ghosting, and Combat Logging.
doublebrain replied to EastwoodHD's topic in Suggestions
I like the idea where you spawn near your logout position but somewhere outside of all towns and points of interest more than this one. It is a much better protection against server hopping and ghosting and I think problems like spawning in trees or whatever can se solved. -
How to Properly Eliminate Server Hopping, Ghosting, and Combat Logging.
EastwoodHD replied to EastwoodHD's topic in Suggestions
With this system, even if your buddies cover your body, you cant ghost, you'd log back into the same exact spot. If you are trying to log onto a new server, you'd have to wait 5 minutes to log onto it, find a new position, log out and then have to wait 10 minutes to log back onto the original server, it's likely the assailant has either moved position or died from one of your other buddies. With how gunfights are in this game, they don't last very long, in a rare instance like that, you'd probably get away with being able to combat log but ghosting would be much more difficult.. You can't please everyone, but you can please the majority. While this system has it's flaws, at the end of the day, it's still really effective. I'd prefer it if no players could abuse, but I'm okay with 1 out of 500 players doing it.
