  1. No, actually Epoch doesn't have a single safe zone in it. Now some server owners provide things like "Safe Zones" and starter gear and self blood bags and.... any other mod out there that can end up on Vanilla OR Epoch. On topic: I play Epoch, Origins, and Vanilla. They are all similar in experience but not the same. Origins Zombies are annoying and harder to kill. Occasionally you run into one of the tougher ones that I have literally unloaded 2+ AKM clips into it to put down some in the head and some in the body. Origins gave me a couple goals and I worked hard at them. I got my humanity up by avoiding other players so I didn't have to shoot them and killing zombies. I found blueprints, I found the supplies, and I built my house and a garage. I fixed up a few vehicles, and basically enjoyed the game. I had several moments with AI in Choppers hunting for me as I zipped through the woods on an ATV bullets whizzing past me and spanging off the ATV. Had similar moments with bandits in one of the larger towns I had thought there was one then spotted the second right before I fired. I slipped out of there but not without being spotted and threw down some covering fire while I retreated and then zipped off again on an ATV. Heck, I fixed up a Wheeled Titanic a very apt named amphibious vehicle because it swear once I had fixed it up and moved onto land I crashed into everything. Worst vehicle ever but it was fun fixing it up. Epoch offers a chance to actually secure some loot to some degree. The base building is the huge draw because it is actually a bit fun to work hard at something and then point to it and go, "I did that." Even a tiny base with very little other than four simple walls, a locked door, and a roof isn't easy to put together wile dodging other players and zombies. Some of the vehicles are a lot of fun as well. The little Mozzie chopper is hilarious and a good deal of fun to fly. Vanilla has it's own draw. I love what they have done to make melee more viable and I like the Sepsis and other recent additions. Unfortunately there isn't much left for me to do in Vanilla besides go shoot people and I'm not all the interested in doing that right now. If you really want to have some fun PVP hop onto a BattleRoyal server. It takes up about an hour and a half of your time if you are good and lucky and really lets you PVP.

  3. I play Epoch and it isn't a hugbox mod. I host my own server and it has no safezones, no custom spawn loadouts, just a bandage a painkiller and a flashlight, the AI missions are brutal and you can be easily sniped from 600M away, the server has 200 vehicles but all of them are broke entirely so you must salvage all the parts, AI bandits patrol cities and towns killing everything that breathes, traders buy cheap and sell expensive so you get ripped off. Bases are not invincible and you cannot find lockboxes on zombies so there is no easy safe storage option. People who say shit like "Epoch is for people who can't play vanilla" or "Epoch is for kids" need to hop off the hate spewing bandwagon and look at it in detail. Yes there are servers with stupid shit like free AS50s on spawn and safezones that hand feed you magical unicorns and marshmallows whilst soothingly telling you everything will be okay, but not every server is like that, if you want to use that flawed logic then I can look at vanilla and say "look vanilla is for kids, I see lots of vanilla servers with self-bloodbag/3000000+ vehicles/spawn with guns/no pvp and other hugbox crap." But I don't because I know that not every server does that. So in summary stop being nasty shits who complain about something that doesn't actually affect them and stop grouping shit servers with proper servers.

Very good point...characters that have survived for a long time could get some subtle small boni like beeing able to carry one or 2 kilos extra, being able to eat pet food without getting a bad stoach,,being immune to different deseases, making less noise when sneaking (avoiding zombies), better frost resistance etc etc I am NOT talking about stuff like better aiming, better melee ,faster running or taking more damage !!!! Maybe some micro skills for treating wounds or reparing vehicles and stuff like that.
  6. Yes I agree fully 100%, and in reality that how dayz is meant to be played. But right now that's not how dayz works and that run is, for the majority of players, a nuisance. That's why ever server begins with 100k vehicles. That's why admins place intermediate loot areas between major cities. While I don't enjoy those runs, and while i don't always have 4 hours on my time to play. That's what dayz is supposed to be, and for a good 8 months I have satisfied my gaming experience by playing other games best suited for my play style. But others simply shaped dayz into something more action packed, with more things to do. Hence the birth of epoch origins, overwatch.... The majority enjoys this shortcuts and added content The minority perfers the old fashion dayz Rocket (if he does the right thing) will appeal to the minority and create a harsh surviving experience. But one must not confuse hard and challenging with long and boring.
  7. Doesn't Epoch provide things like 'safe zones' and customizable vehicles? Forgive me if I'm wrong, but that seems to me like people decide they can't play DayZ properly (dying all the time...etc) so they head to the easier option.

    I play both Mods. From Epoch: The currency system is "okay". Mostly a bunch of prices need to be set better and admins need to stop populating the Vendors with gear. When it is vanilla and someone has to sell something to a vendor before they have it in stock the game is a lot better. Epoch doesn't have Safe Zones. LESS Vehicles, please. A Vanilla Epoch server has an okay ammount, it could be a few less, especially since you can purchase a vehicle. As it is found vehicles are simply a way to make money in Epoch. Crafting is a definite and will be in the SA. Base Building was mentioned and considered. You should be able to break into a base if you put forth the effort equal to building it(which is not the case in Epoch although it is getting better) From Origins: Craftable vehicles are not really Craftable. They are basically just upgradable with these less common things. I am not a fan of the houses, mostly because like I said above, they need to be able to be broken into. I don't like Safes from Epoch either. I liked the functions a house could have other than just a locked storage space. The leveling system is both good and bad. It locked access to certain things and so did force me to play a certain way to accomplish later goals in the game but sadly all it influenced was, "Shoot other players or not shoot other players?"
  9. hmmm, whom do I answer first... you don't - your proficiency in reloading is (probably) directly related to your rig and specific placement of pouches - if you only wear jeans and cary teh spare in them, does your reload time change? So it makes sense that your reload time is related to the gear you have, which in the end acomplished the same thing. repetition on the other hand rarely means improvement as you said, in the game you merely press R (repetition) and the character reloads, so who learns, you or your character? and as you as a player obviously didn' lear anything, what inteligence level is your character? How much did he learn? That I can agree with, but also understand it is nay impossible to implement you make bandages out of clothes, which shouldn't really be rare... The longer you play the game, more good items you have, which in the end makes you just as connected to your character as skills. so skills IMO make little difference. What is more important to people, the sweet M4 or the speed of bandaging? If you were a dev asking this question I would say go ahead, but you are basically asking the devs to do it, devote resources and time, just because you think it will work. given that neither of knows I would rather have them spend teh time on vehicles and basebuilding.
  10. So far, of all the things I've earned in the past two weeks, I lost it all. The two helicopters, two vehicles, two tents, all the gear inside those tents, my character 5x at least. I still want to be a good person in the game and realize there are going to be people who stay ignorant to the matter and KoS because of a bad confrontation some while ago. Do you really think a fence keeps bad and good people out? It keeps honest people honest. The issue here is that there is nothing that truly tells people to stay honest apart from a skin and some frowning upon by the community. I think the ante needs to be upped more. Not where being a bandit is as difficult as sleeping with Kate Upton, but there is a much more clearer line from someone who a. kos for fun b. doesn't truly kos but kills and steals c. someone who kills in self defense d. a neutral survivor e. someone who is helpful but not truly heroic f. a straight up hero. At least those are some of my concepts.

    I don't have a problem with it aslong as you have to repair them, or its not over 200 cars. I've played on servers where theres a car every 100m along the coastaly road and you spawn with a DMR. If i'm playing with extra vehicles, i prefer to have to repair them, and get my own guns/gear

    I'm sure Rocket will allow mods. After all, he was an Arma modder before Releasing the dayz >Mod< But i do agree. Epoch sucks but everyone plays that, so its mainly populated by Noobs who bitch when their Elektro hill bas is griefed or the get run over by one of the 753567644 Cars per server. And then vanilla dayz is mostly "999 Vehicles! AS50 TWS spawn loadout!" Servers. Vanilla DayZ is my favorite. But don't get me wrong, i like mods.

    Podagorsk Epoch v1.0.3 Largely Vanilla

    The server is a dedicated box and runs very smooth. This server is not a cheap dayz packaged server. I am a map builder myself so I can relate to you. If you want to add anything to the map feel free to. All I ask is to not add in anymore military loot locations this map has plenty of toughs. The map currently has 350 vehicles on it.

Hey guys we have just started up our brand new dayz epoch server, its full of the latest anti-hacks and scripts like auto refuel and AI missions it also has boosted chopper crash spawn rates not so much that there over the top but not so few that you never find one we belive we have found the right balance.. We also have our Teamspeak 3 server up and running hairylemonproductions.teamspeak3.com. The server ip is: 69.162.94.197:2302 or just filter HairyLemon on dayz commander. We are also running a competition for the first month we will be awarding prizes to those in the top 3 positions on the leader boards. They will include in game vehicles and weapons. See on the server guys.

  22. Regarding 1. The world you are playing in remains the same no matter the server with the exception of your vehicles and tents that you chose to place. The environment (cities, mountains etc.) stays the same. The pool of other survivors changes but that just adds to the feeling of "I have no idea what's going on in a zombie apocalypse. I would hardly call that problematic. In fact, you have access to a greater pool of potential stories through the access to 100s of thousands of other players. Write that story with YOUR character. 2. If I have a tent in the woods and switch to a server where the tent is not transfered, then so be it. The tent is still there on the server I had it placed. I chose to switch servers because I couldn't find whatever I searched for on the server I placed the tent. AND, I can return to my tent whenever I want by switching back to the server. Having multiple characters alive is far more immersion breaking to me. I want to play as "Sensemann". I am alive, I am unique. If I get killed, I restart and be "Sensemann" again. I simply don't want to have "Sensemann 1" with tent and car alive on server #1 and because the server is full, have to start with "Sensemann 2" on server #9. While connecting, I figure that I have had "Sensemann 29" still alive there and I am far off what I wanted to initially do with "Sensemann 1". I hope that's confusing enough now and brings across my reasons of why my character is far more important to me than a tent that I use once in a while and it not appearing on all servers with me. 3. How many times have you been a victim of someone server hopping? I know it's hard to judge, but to me, in approx. 800 hours of DayZ playtime, I am positive that it has happened to me maybe 3 times (2 times with 100% confirmation). I am not willing to give up a basic game mechanic that 100% affects each time I play for reducing the exploits of 1% that, I am sure, will find another way to beat the system with whatever else exploits they can figure. That's the sadness of online gaming. Anyways, nice discussion with you. Keep it real.
  23. The whole DayZ mod went downhill when everybody and their mother could host servers and add a quadrouplezillion vehicles, weapons and what not in it. That time, DayZ became a simple FPS which included finding a weapon. Having more than 1 character further ridiculed the initial idea to stay alive as long as possible, because, you weren't writing "YOUR STORY" anymore. You didn't feel attached to your character anymore AT ALL. What I was suggesting is not accomodating to players with less playtime. In fact, it's the fairest situation a game can provide. People with more time for the game will get more experience and most likely find more and better stuff. That's simply how it is. No game can really change that and in DayZ, that shouldn't change either. My suggestion with tents not being accessible for the person who set it up once dead is of course leaving a backdoor open for those in clans. But in which game is a clan not in advantage towards a single player? In the mod, a lot of players, including me, often played at times with low player counts. Set up tents everywhere, stash them with weapons, food and other items. Get killed, go to one of your tents and be ready to KOS within 30 minutes. THAT's what my suggestion should help minimizing. I don't care about streamers and I am not suggesting what I said for streamers. However, I have been a victim of "teleporting" of players (through logging into other servers and relogging into the server where I played) more than once. It's just god damn awful. Suggesting more than 1 character per player is minimizing the value you have with your character. It heavily supports KOS mentality and do stuff that you wouldn't do if you had only one character. The whole DayZ mod went downhill from the moment you had multiple characters and thousand tons of loot easily available to everyone.

When it comes to custom mods we all have the same thing, what I want to make different in my server is the people that join. So come in and start building! Mission statement: As an admin I pledge to treat each and every player with respect and give them the help they need to have an enjoyable dayz experience. I would like to make a great community.
