    Severe FPS problems

My specs: i7-4930k @ 5.1GHz (watercooled) 32GB ddr3 @ 2133MHz r9 290x @ 1140MHz core / 6000MHz memory Dayz/OS installed on a 240GB Corsair Force GT SSD. Settings: 1080p Vsync: Off Tex Details/Filering: Very High Objects/Terrain/Clouds: Very High Shadows: Low Antialiasing: Disabled Alpha to Coverage: Disabled Edge Smoothing: Disabled HDR Quality: Very Low Ambient Occlusion: Enabled Post Process Quality: High Bloom: Minimum Rotation Blur: Minimum CFG specific Changes: preferredObjectViewDistance=1000 GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1; Launch Options: -CpuCount=6 -ExThread=11 -maxVRAM=4095 -maxMem=32768 Top out @ 45fps in the wilderness, 30ish in cities, in the 20's with weapon out running around with other people. I Know dropping shadows to off and disabling ambient occlusion nets me another ~10 fps, but the loss in detail is simply not worth it - and the pc should be more than capable of handing the game with most of the intensive settings low/disabled. And I realize that some people would consider that (more than) playable, but I fear for mid range pc performance as more features are implemented (player crafting, wildlife, increased Z spawns, vehicles, more loot spawns, potentially enhanced weather effects etc). These will all have negative impacts on performance. Without some serious optimizations, I'm unsure if dayz will be playable for the majority.
  2. Overall I think the larger melee more "blunt" type melee weapons need more going for them to compete with the Axe's. A higher knockout/Uncouncious rate, more frequent knockdowns, very high chance of breaking limbs and/or crippling a target. As for additional abilities, here's what I've got: The Pipe Wrench should aid towards repairing of Vehicles (not a necessity however) or other potential mechanically operated objects, generators, fuel pumps, water pumps, water towers, fire hydrants. The Crowbar in my mind has a special use in the near future, they should be used for opening things mostly, locked doors of buildings, cars and even locked containers like crates. When opening a Door of a building or car, you risk damaging it to the point it wont lock or close back at all. The Shovel I believe should be used for the "Stash" mechanic that was originaly in the Mod, Players can use it to dig stashes around the map in Small, Medium and even large stashes. It should also be a mechanic towards building bases and shelters (underground shelters were a pivotle point in the Standalones original development plan). Additionally, one could also dig a grave for fallen comrade or recently slain victim to prevent anyone gather gear easily (the grave can still be dug up to claim said gear albiet, in a slightly worse condition depending on how long it was in the ground for)
  3. There has to be some kind of control, the mod taught everyone that. The moment you allow admins to dictate their servers they turn DayZ into custom loadouts (especially if you donate), high end military spawns and eventually 1000's of vehicles. The game gets watered down until it doesnt resemble the vanilla DayZ at all. Not to mention kicking players who kill them or raid their bases. Private servers will be allowed one day i am sure but if using the Public Hives the admins will have to abide by the rules.

I'd rather like to see those 2 vehicles: GAZ-69 (produced from 1953-1972) and the ZIS-5 Truck (produced from 1394-1955 in different variants, ca. 1 million produced). GAZ-69 Specs: 8 Seats (including Driver) Top Speed: 90kph (56mph) Length: 3.85m Width: 1.85m Height: 2.03m ZIS-5 Specs: 12 Seats (guesstimation) Top Speed: 60 or 70kph (37-43mph) Length: 6.06m Width: 2.24m Height: 2.16m Those 2 are more likely to appear in Chernarus than british trucks.
  5. Map updated with hidden traders which can sell weapons and vehicles for half the price of normal traders.

    Squad Identification

I think patches would be a great addition - for backpacks, helmets, pant legs, even the sides of vehicles. Not only would this allow for quick identification of squad mates, but it would allow other squads to quickly identify their rivals or enemies. Some of the best times I had during the mod days was when my squad set up on another clan's server, and kicked off a months-long rivalry. Our clans vied for control of the map, stole each other's vehicles, found each other's tents, engaged in firefights, etc. We even had various truces and ceasefires, which almost always ended when someone got a little trigger happy after a beer or three. People have mentioned squad.xml which let people do this in ARMA. I think it's a good idea to use this functionality to allow people to design their own patches, but I do think that some kind of effort should have to be done in game in order to secure them. You shouldn't just get them for "free," right? Also a really big fan of the "Tank Destroyer" patch. My grandfather was in the 773rd Tank Destroyer Battalion during WWII, and this was his patch. He had it hanging on the wall in his basement, and it makes me proud to see it. I would love to have it on the side of my jeep in DayZ:

Wow, mostly WWII era British vehicles. Bravo. Mostly anything you would find in a place like Chernarus would be UAZ-469 jeep thingy, Gaz-69 jeep, Ural-435 6x6 trucks (Which were everywhere in Arma 2) and maybe a BRDM, although if thats added, no turret. The chances of finding any of your vehicles is 0%. Especially since half of them haven't been used since 1945. Personally i think most vehicles should be civilian, like: GAZ sedans, VAZ "Lada" sedans, Skoda sedans and vans, Ural(s?), and a pickup truck. Maybe a civilian UAZ variant, and some ambulances, fire trucks (Urals) ect. But please, before you post some things like this, look into the map/setting first. We're not in a British tank museum.

    Carry The Wounded

It would be cool if we could carry wounded/Incapacitated/Broken legged people on our back. Would greatly reduce walk-speed. And if someone had a broken leg they may scream in pain while being carried, attracting the infected. Maybe when vehicles are added, you could load the wounded in.

    Some Interesting Ideas For Dayz

Me and some friends came up with some interesting ideas for DayZ here they are. -Hacking radio towers with rare equipment like hacking kits etc to send broadcasts via speakers in towns and on fire stations as well as radios but only for a certain amount of time so it does not get annoying. -Polaroid cameras that you can save pictures in game and look at/drop/trade etc. -Dyes so you can dye clothing for a group colour or better camouflage -Weapon camouflage that you can find a paint onto your guns. -Drop leg Holsters. -Improvised explosives -Being able to torture people :) like using a baseball bat to break legs, pliers to pull out teeth etc, hanging people with rope, dragging people with rope behind vehicles or humans or zombies you never know :D -More clothing like black, green, brown backpacks, ski masks, balaclavas, military goggles, Shemags(basically tactical scarves). -Ability to put hoods up on clothing, ability to roll up\down sleeves, knee pads, berets -Watches, Binoculars, Satellite phones that can text to each other -More weather like rain snow autumn summer etc -Very rare alcohol that can kill you if you drink to much and effects energy and status effects. -Horses that you have to feed them to keep them alive and you have to find saddles to ride them(Later update though). -Character customization like eyes, nose, hair, etc. -But most of all BEARDS its a great way to show off how long you have been alive and it would also look amazing!   (you can find razors to cut your beard off) Thanks for reading leave anymore ideas in the comments if you have any ideas on how to expand on these ideas! :beans:

"Friendlies" are just a bunch of lamers

The thing is, I'd be so bored just KOSing everyone on sight. It's much more skillful to make friends, control the situation and the outcome as opposed to just killing people. Anyone can find another person and gun them down. The end game of this game, as far as I'm concerned, is building an army/group and establishing a network of friends. Now, when I play, I always have the company of 2-6 players, which will come in handy when they release group activity oriented stuff like vehicles/building etc.

    Freezin/Desync

(this text was quoted from another "desync" topic.) The problem is occurring, when coming towards to certain players. It's clear. Danger is, This problem is spreading among the players. Yes, we are too exciting about animals, hunting, vehicles, tents and buildings. But it is more important issue than these. Why? Because players cannot play the game. So, we cannot test game. This is contrary to alpha (or beta) logic. I tried these methods for the resolve problem but did not work: - Close Windows Firewall. - Close Anti-virus - Ip change - Router reset/change - Windows 7 compability mode - Internet Optimizer programs - Uninstall/Reinstall Dayz, and Fresh Run. - Change Steam ID - Delete Dayz Folders in My Documents - Game Booster - Different Servers - Different Server Locations - Different Server Companies - Connect from different locations. - Connect at different times of day (or night) - Play in various cities or locations in the game. - Play in crowd or deserted servers. None of the above did not work. Problem continues. Plus, I rented a game server already, and talked server experts in company about this problem. We tried some solutions but we failed. I have doubts about BattlEye. I think it is the cause of this problem. Because problems started in our game, after the patch. If it's true, please don't be insist about BattlEYE, before making stabilized. Yes Anti-cheating is most important thing in a online game, but after being able to play... I hope, next patch is about solving this issue. Because the most important problem now is this. Don't forget Bean Kings! Finding a can opener is more important thing than being owner of many canned food ;)

For those complaining about development pace

Doubling only the modelling and texturing staff: -twice as more weapons -twice as more vehicles and vehicle modding -twice as more zombie types, player character types -twice better interface, twice as more items etc. OR at least 1 year less developement time. As far as I did modelling and texturing for a while, belive me you can always use an extra hand. Also knowing from their older games, Bohemia suck at some stuff like ragdolls, optimization etc. I believe specialists on those subjects could speed up the developement way more. However, since they already got the money it's unlikely. The only company I know that develops their product after sales is CD Projekt (Witcher series)

    nothing

I wouldn't want any of those heavily armored cars added to the game. Some civilian vehicles would be just fine. eg: Kamaz Lada Niva Lada Riva Thinking about Operation Flashpoint, a tractor would be fun. And I guess an Ural would be fine, too. Most of the vehicles you proposed would need some heavy weaponry to destroy, and as far as I know adding heavy weaponry isn't planned for Standalone.

    Fixing KOS and combat logging

Dellema, I get what you are saying. The regular group I play with, have gone from being cooperative with other survivors we encountered, to pretty much becoming KOS bandits if an unknown is carrying a gun. We've had our share of new spawns blindly charges us with fists in hope of a lucky knock out blow to score a gun. I too feel that there is little incentive to join up with people you randomly meet. There does need to be away to identify and keep track of players that have been encountered. I feel that there will be more co-operation, and hopefully a little less KOS later in the build, when vehicles and base building is incorporated, especially if you can only build on a particular server. I also think this will lead to less server hopping. I met a few of the people I play with now, in Origins. We later moved to Epoch. Having AI "missions" helped encourage cooperation as well...(sector B, anyone?)...Also encouraged bandits to drop in at the end of a team completeing a mission, but..... I too, think there should be a way to identify players in the game. The variations of character model are not enough to distinguish players, nor are the varieties of clothing. you wear black, or you wear blue. Your suggestion of skins has merit, there was a rudimentary system for that in Origins, and is something that should be further explored. There has been a similar discussion on Reddit, and there are some very valid points about realism vs things that the program is unable to convey and should be dealt with. I would at least like to see the name of who killed me, or who I killed. If I mess up and kill a bambi new spawn, maybe if I know it's the same player on the next spawn, I'll help them out. You raise some valid points, just wanted to say you're not alone in this type of thinking. A HUD type name that only displays within 10meters, perhaps? a note in the message log so and so killed so and so.

    Adding Random Encounters?

I think as we go further down the road in development these things will start to happen naturally. Some quick examples. - Once there is vehicles.. you might see a plane/heli crash.. or a bunch of maniacs speeding down the train track in a broken down school bus at 4am. - Weather will help with this as well. making it harder to get around. perhaps blocking some areas.. or making it hard to see in an intense rain storm.. or the sun blinding you off the freshly fallen snow. - Spawning. Once the entire world isn't spawning on the coastline. we might see more bambi's in the north half of the map rather than full geared out military mega machines who farmed the whole way up at night on a server with a population of 2. Hence more opportunity for interesting player interaction rather than getting slaughtered as soon as you approach anything. - Loot value. There is way too much of EVERYTHING right now.. Seems completely silly to see 25 people running around in complete military garb with fully kitted out M4's.. It's scary to go anywhere. It happened in DayZ Mod, I am sure it will start to happen here.

"Friendlies" are just a bunch of lamers

I shoot other players.. I just prefer to interact with players rather than playing a deathmatch. Sometimes those interactions result in a gunfight. Sometimes they result in a friendship. Usually the result somewhere inbetween. If you want a deathmatch there are plenty of other games to do that in. COD, Counter-Strike, Battlefield; to name a few. And, I've played several games competitively (In leagues) and won money at LAN tournaments. It doesn't take skill to shoot an unarmed player. It doesn't take skill to shoot a man in the back while he's running away. It doesn't take skill to snipe someone while they're looting from 400m away. Anyone can do that shit, so if anyone couldn't handle other FPS games, it's people who run around getting their dick hard by KOSing every player they see and pretending to be "hardcore KOS bandits".. The type of players who hang out all day near the coast picking on fresh spawns are the same type who get their asses royally handed to them in a heads up fair gun fight where both groups are armed equally. I can't tell you how to play.. Maybe you think it's fun to collect FlashLights off of fresh spawns.. Or maybe you're so bored with your day to day life that sitting on a hill in full camo with a sniper rifle and picking off 1 player every hour or so at the airfield is the highlight of your day, but I think I can speak for most people when I say: We're not impressed. For me, DayZ is about the player interactions.. It's about building a character from the ground up and gaining a reputation as a player or as a squad, where people on your "home" server know they can trust you and know when shit hits the fan you have their back. It's fun to get a small group of organized players and control the majority of the vehicles on the map, wipe out peoples bases, and lay the smack down on bandits in Elektro who pick on noobs.. It's fun running into a new person and communicating through the tension. It's fun taking people hostage and watching what kind of action emerges from a chance encounter. If I just shoot people on sight, then none of those things are possible. If there's any life lesson to be learned from DayZ, it's that possessions are meaningless without people to share them with, and that friends/allies are more valuable than resources.
  19. BonnyBrown

You Didn't Fix Spawns You Made Them Worse....

The spawns mainly suck because there's nothing to do in the game yet. People say go inland, but there's no reason to go inland, in fact you're more likely to find player interaction on the coasts so it's a disincentive. Once they add vehicles, random events, heli crashes, base building, tent, and stuff like that it will probably be better because then you actually have a chance to find something to do along the way while playing running simulator. Also bigger servers will probably help once that happens because then you might actually meet people inland when you go there rather than the empty wasteland the game is today.
  20. TEST_SUBJECT_83

Do you support "Killing on sight"?

Yes it's extremely important! Or else this game would be boring. Especially now with no vehicles and so little zombies. But KOS'ing is just surviving. It's the way we react in this type of situation. When supplies and food and the things that mean life or death are rare, you never know if someone is after your stash. You can't trust anyone! Period! Thats the way it is in DayZ, and thats the it would be IRL. This is a somewhat close representation of how we would actually act in this situation. People get scared, and don't know how to react or communicate in a sudden life or death situation, and you see this type of behavior time and time again in the game. Where two people who would otherwise get along great and be able to help each other survive, end up killing one or the other because they are afraid and don't know how to react. I mean, how do you react? It's not like there doing something wrong that could save there life. It's just the reality of this way of living. You just never can really trust someone when what you have means life or death to another. KOS'ing is in the game because it's the way we are. As long as there is complete freedom to act as you will anyway you want without consequence, then it will never change, IMO.
  21. This is obviously something that would develop over a long time frame as new features are added in (e.g. vehicles, farming, hunting, base-building) but I think it is worth exploring (and possibly implementing) the roots of this kind of system to see what works and what doesn't during the alpha...

    Duration of alpha

I have read at the devblog that the beta wont come till the end of 2014 and i was like WHAT THE FUCK? Which game is in alpha for one year? Arma 3 was in alpha for 1 month and is better in all aspects ( the only thing that it misses is the zombies lets face it) Anyway even that it is ridiculous considering that we have waited already 2 years , is the to-do list going to be implemented at alpha or in beta? I hope the basic weapons and vehicles will come in alpha. Yeah it's a new game but lets not forget that we have played a lot the mod and we are not going to wait for the same things that long
  23. Guest

Do you agree with modding in SA?

I don't mind modding for what it is. The issue I have with it is when I wanted to go back to stock Day Z, I couldn't find any servers that accomodated it. Day Z Commander was mostly full of "Day only, 500+ vehicles, start with xxx weapon" to the point where I couldn't find a single standard game so I gave up looking.

    A few (valid) questions...

Hi, Beginning with the last question you asked, tips and tactics... Learning to observe and travel properly is the biggest thing that will effect you, its what took me the longest and changed my chance of success the most. If an experienced player spots you first you've practically no chance. If you spot someone and they don't see you: it doesn't matter whether they're a noob or Frankie himself, you're holding all the cards... Travelling (on a busy server): Scan everywhere before going anywhere. :rolleyes:Use free-look to scan your area as you move. (Don't constantly sweep the camera around, move it around you in steps so you can study each view before switching your attention elsewhere.'Check you six'.Turn 'View bobbing' to minimum in settings.Choose routes that give maximum visibility while providing cover between you and oncoming, unexplored areas. Try to arrive at new urban areas at a good viewpoint i.e. a hillside with a clear view over your destination. Wait. Players busy looting are only visible occasionally. You're most visible when silhouetted against the sky - on a hill top or roof... Stay back, out of view, and peek over with 3rd person view.Stand upright when moving out of cover, you move faster, you're harder to hit, you reach cover quicker. Unless you're ducking behind something you're no better hidden crouched. If you're out of cover in a high risk zone (i.e Cherno area) then use Q and E to run in a zig-zag. Don't stand still in the open. If you must pause then run 'in circles' (and free-look).You'll see that grass and small bushes disappear beyond 50-100m. Don't use that 'local' foliage to hide yourself. Use pine trees. (Many players choose to play with detail settings on low so they can spot players more easily.)Build an awareness of your line-of-sight, note blind spots, powerful sniper positions. Move through cover in respect of those 'question marks'.Keep your weapon raised while sweeping particularly high risk buildings/areas (military buildings).Look out of windows as you loot buildings and before exiting. The axe-man cometh while you're inside. You're most vulnerable when in-menu picking up loot.Oh **** it, just risk it and run in. 'You're dead.' ...Soooo many times. :blush:If you see somebody: Don't go prone and think you're suddenly invisible, you ain't. Prone people are nice slow moving targets to pop away at.Don't panic fire, you'll give them the advantage: they know you're there and where. You're also a bandit, now they're coming for you.Unless you were running out in the open they probably haven't seen you. Watch them.If there's cover between you and him, you're safe. However much you're ****ing your pants.Try not to get out of breath in a combat situation as you cannot aim well. You're safest waiting for them to break cover for this reason.Bare in mind many players play in pairs - If you haven't been spotted then chill, wait to see if they've a friend nearby - I'd be on the hill if my mate was in town, spotting for him.If you decide to take a shot then relocate quickly once you've fired... If they've half a brain they'll run for cover, that's your chance to sneak away and flank around.Fire and flank on round... Fire and move people! If you shot my mate while I was nearby I would probably wait and try to kill you when you stopped to loot his body. Its desperately demoralizing old chap, the tables turn so quickly, so terribly quickly. Find someone to play with, put them on watch while you loot or vice-versa, keep your distance from each other, maximise your combined observational ability. Use Skype or whatever to communicate your movements to each other while playing... Warn each other before firing on zeds, likewise if you change clothes. Keep looking, keep flanking. Many of these tips came to me via FrankieOnPC's DayZ Mod video's - http://www.youtube.com/user/FRANKIEonPCin1080p  (Don't take too much notice of his two covering the standalone, they're OK videos but it seems he hasn't read the change logs so he explains a lot of things incorrectly.) If you want to learn how to be a hero he's your man, a pro. He's playing the mod but you can learn loads of useful stuff from him for the standalone: watch how he observes and moves, how he uses cover etc. Your other questions... 1) Day/night cycle: Currently in-game time runs with server regions's time IRL - Dawn breaks on UK servers (my region) at around the same time as in reality (though it's not seasonal so it's not exact). If you wish to play in daylight at 12pm real time you may need to find yourself a server in a different timezone (and a higher ping). Server names often include a region prefix: i.e. 'DayZ - UK130'. 2) Ranged Weapons: There are currently only two rifles: M4a1 and Mosin. Mosin is as Mosin does. An M4A1 fitted with an ACOG scope has reasonable range. However, there is a bug (presumably) that makes the M4A1 terribly inaccurate at any range above, say, 50m - unless you find and fit it with some Magpul parts (military loot spawns). I currently have an M4A1 fitted with an ACOG scope, magpul stock and hand-guard - firing 30 rounds I guessed it effective to upto around 200m. As far as I am aware part condition does not currently change accuracy - but I might be wrong. Zeroing: DayZ has realistic projectiles - they do not fly in a straight line but fall through an arc as they fly. Your scope has zeroing (set with PageUp / PageDown) which will compensate for this 'bullet drop'. It works both ways though. If you have zeroing set at 300m and take a head shot at a...err... bandit sat 50m away, the bullet will fly way over his head. I generally travel with zeroing set close, 50-100m. If I come face to face with somebody at close range I don't want to be thinking about zeroing. With long range encounters, generally, one player is unaware of the other until the first shot is fired. If I spot them first then there's no rush, if I don't and someone's firing at me then cover is the priority. 3) Keeping up-to-date: If DayZ updates when you launch Steam then it has been updated, nothing changes without an update. When this happens check the Change-log which will be right there with other news on Steam under the 'PLAY' button. They are sometimes full of 'server security' stuff but are always worth reading through carefully as little changes often dramatically effect your survival options (as can bug fixes etc.). 4) Navigation: They seem to have added a yellow marker to the maps telling players where they are and which way they are facing. You shouldn't have any problems now. Something I've started doing recently is taking a compass reading of the sun or which way the shadows are pointing. That way you can keep to a bearing while avoiding messing with the compass every time you turn around (locking free-look on helps with this too). I think that's a real shame, if you have a map the beautiful compass is pointless and there's no orienteering skills - its sat-nav really. Players used to learn a lot while navigating Chernarus - That kept the running interesting. An integral game component gone... Truth is there ain't a great deal to do at the minute as it is... 5) Being a hero: Remember you're playing a very early Alpha version. As the game now stands, once you have your kit you're one side or the other of a man-hunt. So, I think this will be a frustrating area for you for some months. However, much is yet to come: radios, animals, hunting, cooking, crafting, much complex medical system, vehicles, persistent tents and bases... etc. etc. etc... Once this stuff comes into the picture there'll be a whole lot more to keep players occupied and on the defensive. That will hopefully mean a reduction in 'kill on sight' and, maybe, more need for heroes. A heads up: The Arma II DayZ mod has been a popular game for nearly 2 years (?) so there is loads of information on the web relating to that. Currently DayZ mod has far more content (items, crafting options etc.) than the Standalone, including M107 sniper rifles, helicopters and... eh? Satchel charge excreting cows suddenly appearing in front of you... what the...? Oh FFS. YOU'RE DEAD. Praise be and blessed be your looting. :beans:
