    DayZ "Vanilla" Servers

    Good question, I've been finding these scarce myself so I'd be interested to see any vanilla ones around the Au/NZ servers. Really feel like the servers that are filled to the brim with vehicles, rare weapons and are daylight 24/7 kind of defeat the purpose of the game imo.

    Worst day in DayZ ever

    Like Vicco said "DayZ does not like plans" I took a full month, stole or repaired six vehicles, looted like a maniac and filled them with weapons, ammo and provisions then scouted for the heli bandits that had been oppressing everyone on the server. I found their camp, recruited player for the raid and when I logged in to gather everyone and start the raid..all the vehicle were gone! Poof! I am confident that it was not OP because I had removed one wheel from each vehicle and stashed them in two separate tents...the tents and wheels were still there. the only admin is the server owner and in my opinion,a fair and honest guy, so I guessed glitch. Sour taste in my mouth...you bet. Did I stop playing, yes, for a few days and I've not spent much time on that server, however I attribute that to finding Musty. Bottom line...that's the breaks.

  7. I disagree about the difficulty. And I myself am going into programming, -just- beginning actually, and I'll tell you that this wouldn't be too hard to implement. I virtually even explained how it would work, look at my quoted post in the first post. You're also wrong about something else. If they started work on this system, they wouldn't have to finish it before they could release the Alpha. They've said many many times, that the moment the network bubble is done, unless something random comes up, then they'll release. Even with other stuff unfinished. For example, vehicles.

    As far as I know, weather will play a more important part in the SA (meaning clothing will become more important), vehicles are being completely overhauled to allow for new damage models/customisation etc (that will be a bit later in development) and regarding character customisation I have no idea...

    Quits to Arma

    i try to log into server, it shows the page with tanks and military vehicles picture, than it it shows a black screen and goes to Arma II or Arma OA main screen. what to do? yesterday the game worked. i use the commander.

    I'm glad to say i'm really happy with what I've seen so far but there are things that haven't even been dressed in dev blogs at all (that i can recall) i would like to see weather changes i would like to see where the vehicles are in development if changed or not i would like to know how customizable your character will be as in race, age, height, and other features other than that i excited to see such a improvement in what has been done latly

    Cellular Phones/Electricity in General

    Fair point on that... The one thing communication-wise, that everybody seems to forget when it comes to post-apocalyptic times, is Satellite Phones... The Satellites are already up there, complete with access-permissions pre-loaded ( the service providers system merely uploads "updates" to those permissions as needed, so if you found an active one, there would be no service provider to tell the Satellite to ignore you ) and require for the most part, little to no maintenance... Although you would over time lose Satellites to faults/ Space debris/ rubbish and inevitably old-age, the system in itself should be good for quite awhile.... And Given that most Satellite phones are sold with/ are compatible with Car chargers, and we have cars/ vehicles... That solves the issue of charging the Terrestrial end of it... Also, as far as the Games ( mod and standalone ) go, if we can find working GPS systems, then Sat Phones are just as plausible, considering a GPS requires 3 Satellites to bounce signals off, not just the one ( for short-med distance ) calls on a Sat Phone....

  18. Whenever these discussions come up, I always have the same response. If you don't approve of the way someone else plays the game, don't play that way. Whether it's going to a stash-tent or going to collect gear off your own corpse, it's a matter of choice in how you approach the game. Personally, on respawn, even when I've got a tent full of gear (collected mostly just for something to do), by the time I go anywhere near my camp, I'll already be well geared up. That's how I choose to play, because I find starting with nothing and working my way up to be enjoyable. It really makes no difference whether a player you meet has geared up conventionally or by "circumventing permadeath". I think tents, vehicles and any future "bases" should exist independently of players. Meaning nothing should be linked to a player or "owned" by a player. They're just neutral objects in the world with no per-player limits, or unnatural, gamey on-death repercussions.

    Circumventing Permadeath

    Tents disappearing upon death? First of all, what would be the logical reason for that, I mean in a real-world sense. I know the game has a lot of things that don't work like they do in the real world, but wouldn't you expect tents to just stay where they are if their owners die? If tents disappear upon death that would make them absolutely useless. Who ever sets down a tent with the intent to only come back to it during that life? I mean if you make this argument for tents you might as well make the same argument for vehicles. After all, people will just get vehicles and hoard them, and everyone knows that vehicles are just tents on wheels (or with rotor blades). Are you tired of people repairing and hoarding vehicles? Then just make it so the vehicle blows up if the person dies. Anyways, what this all boils down to is the disapproval you have of the hoarding playstyle. But it's the same with people disapproving of banditry (even frivolous bandit purely for the sake of killing). It's just something that is allowed because of the very open allotment of playstyles and the sandbox genre, and it's something you're going to have to deal with. If someone wants to hoard then you let them hoard. I play as a trader on my local server (DayZ Vanilla, not Origins or whatever mods have those stupid frilly "trading posts") and hoarding is merely just part of the job. That being said, there are still considerable risks. Someone can find your tent and loot it, someone can find your tent and camp it, waiting for you to get back, someone can find the tent and wait for you to put something more valuable in it and store that, people can destroy your tent and all your items, etc. These risks prompt action and strategic thinking on the part of the person setting up the tent that separates those that deserve the tent from those that don't. It prompts one to intelligently consider good tent placement, be alert and vigilant when traveling to or accessing the tent, and always have a contingency plan in case the tent is compromised. There's more to think of here than you think. That being said, having houses or whatever where you can just store all your items and lock them away so that no one else can get them is just lame. Super, super lame. EDIT: Also, I say NO to a tent limit. I deserve to set up every single tent that I find, and there is no reason I should be limited to only setting up a certain amount of tents. The only thing that should limit tents is the number of good hiding places, not some arbitrary rule on tents because some people don't like hoarders.

    Zombie player control

    Player Controlled zombies in any form has pretty much been confirmed as a no by Rocket. It would make the game harder only in the fact that clans/groups would have one or two zombies scout out ahead in stealth mode and communicate with the gun holders. Animals being 'controllable' is nothing new (script kiddies in the mod turning everyone into crows, not to mention that being a bug) the mouse was probably to show off that 'hey we have a new animal'. Okay say this was in the game/mod, you choose to spawn in as a zombie, and you spawn in Kamenka. Oh by the way your locked into being a zombie till your killed. You can't get in vehicles, and you can't pick up gear, you can only walk around, run when players are nearby, and attack. You think 'sneaking' is boring, good luck with Zombieing about.

  23. I see what you mean, but as stated in the title of this thread, it's supposed to be about the easiest to implement vehicle locking system. It's not targeted at the SA but at the mod. And handcuffs' keys are much easier to implement since all keys will be the same, and all handcuffs the same. It will be as another tool. Vehicle keys would need a much more complicated system, each key tied to a specific vehicle. This road is a no go for the mod and it would need many months till it gets implemented into the SA (which will have no vehicles at all when it comes out). I too would prefer an actual key system in the mod instead of what I'm suggesting here, but I'm trying to be realistic and find something that works, and it actually has chances to be added in the mod. Not to mention another problem with real keys I thought of right now. Say keys do get added in the mod as normal objects you can put in your inventory. Let's say you have 3 keys, each taking up one slot in your inventory. You are losing 3 slots (keep that in mind). Or better yet, let's say the devs are awesome and implement a stacking system (like flares or glowsticks) where you can add keys to a keychain which only takes up one slot in your inventory. Now you're losing only one slot. All of the keys you are carrying are tied to specific vehicles on a specific server you found said keys. What if next day you join another public hive server? You end up with a bunch of useless keys in your inventory taking up space. And then you'll find keys on this server too, so after a month you'll end up with a dozen keys, each one tied to a vehicle on a different server. Seems very broken doesn't it? And then take into account that each server reboots every 5-6 hours usually and many vehicles get lost/bugged this way. You'd end up carrying useless keys tied to nonexistent vehicles. Can you see now why keys are so hard to implement? On the other hand, what I'm suggesting is viable. Each database gets stored locally on the server, so on each server you can have claimed vehicles without having to carry 50 keys in your inventory across servers. Also, when a vehicle is lost or destroyed, the database entry gets automatically deleted, so no useless keys in your inventory.
  24. I hear ya dude. Was adding my own idea onto yours. In latest devblog, they showed actual keys for the handcuffs. Not too difficult to add another for vehicles. And I was suggesting just have it in the inventory and use them from there via options like getting in and out of cars now. But it would not be too difficult to have to put them in your hand to use them, like for handcuffs. Anyways..
  25. How about this simple combination of the two systems? Ya find a fresh vehicle spawn. Doors are unlocked (always? not sure on that.. maybe sometimes a newly spawned vehicle has locked doors and boot). When you get in, there is a good chance that keys will be added to your inventory (should be a special slot, or slots, for keys.). While in the car, there is an option to start or turn off the engine, and to lock or unlock the doors. While outside the car, there is the options to lock or unlock the doors, and to lock or unlock the boot (storage). By having the option to lock or unlock while in the vehicle, you can control if someone can get in. So only the key holder can be the driver (owner). To change drivers, the owner and passenger get out, keys are put into the passengers inventory and now he/she can drive (and is essentially the owner, so only give keys to someone you trust). So as I said, when you find a fresh vehicle spawn and get in, there is a chance that you will get keys. Sometimes you would not get keys and would need to use a toolbox to hotwire the vehicle. So for that vehicle, a toolbox would be needed at all times to start it. But you could not lock the doors or boot. And of course, if you have keys for a vehicle and it is parked somewhere. Someone can come along, bash the window in, unlock the door and if they have a toolbox, start the engine and drive (but with no keys, would never be able to lock the doors or boot). And yeah, with a crowbar, pry open the boot, which would no doubt make it so the boot of that vehicle could never be locked again. So if you manage to get your vehicle back, it would be somewhat messed up. I would disagree that vehicles would automatically go to the killer of the vehicle owner, tis not realistic. The killer should still have to break into the car and/or boot. Also, a friend should have to do the same. Anyways, this is what I think would be great and make it realistic. Yeah there would be some work, an image for the keys (which can only be seen in the inventory maybe, but would be great if they could be something to hold in your hand), maybe a minor animation for locking and unlocking the door / boot, a database entry for who holds what keys for which vehicle... etc.. edit - seems rossums beat me to it somewhat haha. not easy being a gamer when ya got a wife and toddler. been working on this post for a couple hours lol edit 2 - dang it, forgot one part. I would disagree that if you kill the owner of a vehicle, the vehicle automatically belongs to the killer. Keys would be necessary, or breaking the window and hotwiring it without the ability to lock it yourself etc..
