Helicopter stolen again... le sigh....
geryon replied to JPWiser's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Early days of US434 several regulars would fix the Mi17 whenever it spawned. They would park it off map 4 kms off and within a day it would get stolen and crashed by a hacker. You ban the hacker, rinse and repeat the next time Russian spawns. Players give up the game and a new group comes in. They experience the same thing, rinse and repeat. Basically high value vehicles have a steal me sign on them. I've noticed a lot of experienced players treat helis as vehicles of opportunity. They don't bother investing the time to fix them but if stumbled upon will take it an use it until crashed or stolen themselves. Most of the time helis seemed to be built by players who have passed noob stage but are not quite grizzled and jaded. They still have optimism that building a heli and keeping it for a long time is still possible. -

It's hard to tell what's happened. I know on my private server it's necessary to respawn all vehicles when too many get blown up. That's using DayzCC. I can see where all vehicles are, and players. No idea what admins can see or do on other servers. Personally, unless I've talked to the admin, or have some time playing on a server with no issues, I don't trust them. But here's something Shosho has on one of his vids, and said he used to keep his chopper. He always has a rotor in his backpack before he logs off next to his chopper, hidden way out somewhere. Shoots out the rotor on his chopper before he logs. He didn't say it works every time, or even most times. Mostly mentioning a neat trick I think. Seems better than nothing. Not foolproof. Somebody might find the chopper and go find a rotor, or just shoot the chopper up. -
This server is brand new, been up for about a week now. We don't have many players, only about a handful atm, but hopefully that'll change. Right now there's over 70+ vehicles on the map, 3 or 4 are taken by the players. No structures are built yet, but I'm working on building the gas and tow shop in cherno. Server guidelines are pretty basic: Be respectful to each other (I know that's a tough one). Role play is encouraged, not enforced. Use direct chat to talk with people and avoid side chat if you can. A world wide chat channel doesn't work well in any role play environment really. You can build anywhere you want. I'm hoping to see devils castle setup as a nice base by someone. Oh and base camping or griefing are allowed. If you build 20 walls in front of someone's door...that's fine. You put the time and effort into it so I won't punish you. It's a bit dickish but that's fine too. We're running straight up vanilla Epoch with no extras except a custom anti-hack. We did add some quantity to trader inventories, the default of 10 items per trader seemed a bit low. We may add some more to traders soon, wood and such to buy so you don't have to chop trees all day long for materials. Maybe even add in pre-build items like wall and floors...but they would be costly. Anyway, if you're interested in setting/building up on a new server, we'd like to host you. Also, if you need help building or gathering materials, don't be shy about asking for a hand.

Again, I find it hard to believe knowing the little bird is still in the hanger at the NEAF, and pretty much knowing 90% of the server pop by name, using the same server every day, that some random group of people managed to get another chopper going that found it. Our group owns both ATV's on the server as well. Also that our truck, second ATV, all the gear on both vehicles that was 50 meters from the chopper was untouched. Definitely was not a "random" occurance nor was it found by intentional exploration. -

i personally cant wait, to see what they are doing with the zombies in the SA, and how people play it, like will people make groups, and survive, like the walking dead style of living, not the bandit, way, that could be fun, and i cant wait to see what they are doing with base building, and vehicles, and i really hope they add the feature, where the longer you´ve lived, a beard will grow on you, that could be FREAKING COOL! :D -

No quadrant unsearched. I have found amazing camps and many a pristine vehicle when I go out of my way to search the most remote areas. I guess being a thief is the "worst" thing I do in DayZ. I've laid in tall grass watching guys patch up a truck in their camp and then drive off in other vehicles. I just ran in behind them and took the truck like it was mine. If someone shot me while looting their camp, I always thought I could accept that as a reason for PvP. -

Vehicle theft and tent raiding by cheating to find the location happens on moderately populated servers in the public hive as well, without any admins having third party tools. There are "apps" out there that intercept the necessary information and provide "ESP" (formerly known as map hacking) capability. Whether the server is spoofed to obtain information from the hive, or the information is milked from the server, who is to say but those who know where the vulnerability lies and how to query it. The regulars on our server have done some discrete experiments and used all manner of locations for stashes and vehicles. Without fail they are all located and raided by cheating to determine their location, within a day or so of being placed. There simply isn't enough time in the day to legitimately search the entire map grid by grid and there isn't enough player traffic to make it all by chance discovery EVERY time. A tent was completely concealed in a group of pine trees, in a forest way off the beaten track in the middle of the map. Only certain items were placed in that tent and it was completely untouched. Then at some expense, rangefinders, GPS's or NVG's were added to the contents. As if by magic, each time only those items disappeared and the rest of the contents were left, including military weapons such as a Bizon SD and an M240. Not only are the sticky-fingered cheats map-hackers, they are so choosy that their visits are blatantly obvious. Even worse, they abandon the aircraft within a day or two or crash them anyway. The rub? The only way to determine their identity, other than to have 24 hour admin cover (never happen of course, its only a game) would be to audit the logs and find out who is regularly collecting these rare items and aircraft. -
Detailed Humanity Discussion - Yep Another Topic about Humanity
ArmyofSolo posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Stated Goal: To increase the efficacy of all types of game play styles (Bandit, Hero, or Civilian) while balancing the pros and cons of each by creating a new “Humanity/Reputation” system. Current Problem: With the current humanity system, playing as a Hero, Civilian, or Bandit is rather pointless. All three are required for an immersive and entertaining experience, but manipulations in the current humanity system prevent accurate alignments. As a result, the tension/conflict between the three alignments is reduced and funnels people into a shoot on sight mentality. Suggested Solution (3-Parts): Part 1: Self-Selected Humanity Alignment In part 1, players will self-select their humanity alignment by choosing 1 of 3 options (Hero, Bandit, or Undisclosed). What players choose in this option will impact how the humanity/reputation system will play-out while in-game. There is nothing to prevent a bandit from listing him/herself as a hero (a bandit in disguise) and vice-versa. However, calling one’s self a hero but acting like a bandit would have additional implications and vice-versa. The Self-Selected Alignment is not a means to punish players who choose a certain alignment. Its purpose is to escalate the tension between dis-similar groups while at the same time allowing similar alignments to get along together in ways not currently possible. Self-Selection occurs during the first spawn-in on a server. However, re-selecting an alignment would be possible at certain intervals as well. Restrictions on when or how often the self-selection could occur would be in-place to prevent players from trying to manipulate the system. Part 2: Benefits of Self-Selected Alignments “Hero” Benefits: If self-selecting Hero as your alignment, you should get certain benefits while in-game. Examples of benefits could include: Heroes can see other Heroes more easily. Exact methods of implementing this could vary. Visual clues, increased name recognition, player list noted as Hero, etc. The goal would simply be for other heroes to recognize other heroes in proximity faster/more easily.Geographic benefits could be implemented in such a way that sections on the map would provide benefits only to heroes. Benefits designed to make it attractive for heroes to congregate in a certain geographic areas would create hot spots of heroes. For example, maybe hero homes in these “hero” areas would allow for increased storage capacity, be better disguised/camouflaged, and/or have an auto door shutting ability (in case of danger). A self-selected Hero would not be required to build a home in this area, it would simply be an option if you wanted the extra benefits it afforded. Likewise, it would not prevent a bandit from building a bandit home in the area. However, bandits would quickly find that building a home in amongst heroes would not be the best way to assure survival.Increased carrying capacity. Since heroes aren't “on the run” they can carry more on their person/in their pack than a bandit can. “Bandit” Benefits: If Self-Selecting Bandit as your alignment, you should also get certain benefits while in-game. Benefits for bandits could be similar to that of hero, but in reverse. Examples: Bandits can recognize other bandits with faster/easier means.Geographic areas for bandits to build bandit homes. Similar to the benefits of heroes building hero homes in hero areas. Increased running distance/speed. Being “on the run” makes bandits lighter and faster. A hero isn't going to out-run a bandit. “Undisclosed” Benefits: If Self-Selecting Undisclosed as your alignment, your benefit is your anonymity. You’re harder to recognize, and maybe have more stealthy qualities. You are also not immediately noticed as a mortal enemy of a hero or bandit so you can move around the world with less risk. Part 3: Advanced Reputation System In addition to the self-selected humanity alignment, each individual player will have a “Reputation”. The Reputation will be tied to the players’ self-selected humanity. For example, if a player selects their humanity as a hero, they will either get positive hero reputation (for doing hero actions), or negative hero reputation (for doing bandit actions). Vice-versa for Bandits. Undisclosed players will also have a Reputation, they will either get positive hero points or positive bandit points. Other players can see your reputation. The more it is in any one direction, the easier it would be to see the reputation. Repercussions of a player’s reputation will manifest in various ways. However, it should be noted that the player’s self-selected humanity has a big impact on the severity of the repercussions. For example, if a player self-selects Hero as their humanity, then doing bandit actions will very quickly get you negative hero reputation. Whereas if you were Undisclosed, doing the same bandit action, would get you less bandit reputation. Doing the same action if you had self-selected your humanity as a bandit would get you positive bandit reputation points. Ways to earn positive or negative reputation points: Handcuff/steal from other playersShoot at other playersKill other playersShoot at other players vehicles (requires a vehicle registration ability)Destroy other players vehicles (requires a vehicle registration ability)Steal other players vehicles (requires a vehicle registration ability) Healing other players, killing zombies, etc. do not give positive or negative points in any fashion. Your self-selection humanity determines how many points you get for each above action and whether those are positive or negative points. There would also have to be some “self-defense” recognition so defending one’s self does not issue points against one’s reputation (or very minimal points). In addition to the points that accumulate on the player’s reputation, there could also be other items that ‘attach’ to a players rep. For example, if a hero kills a bandit, that hero would get positive hero points. However, what if after that bandit was killed, he/she could put a bounty on that hero’s rep? Likewise, if a bandit killed a hero, that hero could attach a warrant to the bandit’s rep. These bounties and warrants would be like badges of honor to the players and would grow as their skill and time grew in-game. However, having higher bounties and warrants would also make that player more of a target. Their Reputation will proceed them, if you will. Conclusion: Having a Humanity/Reputation system that makes people want to play as a bandit, hero, or be indifferent will create more tension and reduce frustration. Bandits will be more likely to band together as will heroes. Geographic hot-spots will make certain areas more dangerous than others. But if you’re out looking for danger, maybe that is a good thing? Over time, heroes will become more heroic and bandits will become more evil. As their respective reputation grows, they will find more people to band around them. Having a healthy good versus evil (with other in-between) will create a game that is more than just looting or killing on sight. -

There are additions to servers that can locate vehicles and items on the map. If the admin has access to the DB they can look up the game world coordinates and using a map editor figure out roughly where it is from that. However, if this is an official Hive server then the admins do not typically have any access to that sort of thing. What is more likely is not that someone is running into it on foot out in the middle of nowhere but that someone is flying over in a helicopter and noticing it. Typically it takes a long time to find a chopper and get it fixed up with my friends but when we do we then start canvassing the map. Since you can fly from one corner of the map to the other with less than a 1/4 of the fuel a helicopter can survey the entire map one a couple tanks of fuel and it would only take a few hours to do so even stopping off at helicopter crashes and such. It is VERY difficult to hide a helicopter from another helicopter. -
Anyone else have this issue, where you play on a moderately low populated server and spend hours and hours getting a chopper going for your group of people you may play with. Have one or two glorious nights with it only for it to be mysteriously "found" and stolen? I find it hard to believe twice now within a couple days of getting my chopper going, that it was just "stumbled upon" by some lucky bastard. No one just happens to be running through a forest in the middle of butt fawk no where that goes even further into butt fawk no where. Can server admins see where the vehicles are on the map? What is the likelyhood it was found via maphack or something of the sorts? Really discouraging.

Will the release of the single player game signal the death of the modding community?
monolith1985 replied to piffaroni's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
lol single player dayz wouldnt be very fun on one hand i like mods that add new features, from self bloodbagging for when im playing alone, to interesting things like epochs base building system on the other hand, alot of mods ruin the core experience, from bathtub vehicles in origins to "most weapons ever" mods like breaking point so if BI ever do want to bring in modding, i hope its only open to a handful of select people/groups, who can do great work with the game, and with the engine. Lets not forget that currently the dayz mod is run by a modding team, not BI, and they have improved dayz alot since rocket stopped working on it -

Standalone titles dont get modded.... they get expanded.... DayZ Expansion (new cities, expanded map, new gear, new skins, new vehicles, etc....) If ANYthing thats all I would like to see... Not free lance modding that would be absurd, as is alot of mod servers at the moment. The only reason "mods saved dayz mods" is because the focus of a small to begin with dev team is split at the moment between two games. Once all focus shifts to the SA and getting it working to its fullest extent, and expanding on that, all will be gravy. I would say its a more accurate statement to say that mods have slowed down the standalone development, in the mean time keeping people interested in a skewed version of a real game thats about to be released into testing. -

As salamander Ander said, dayz the mod has turned into a death match due to people modding the game. For example, servers with 2 million vehicles 24/7 day with extra barracks in every town etc. I hope SA will never be open to modding so we can never see what has happened to the mod happen to SA. If you like what the mod has become, then continue to play the mod. Please don't whine about the SA and how you have been: EDIT: I have no idea why the text above is highlighted in white.^^ If you want that experience play the mod, because thats not what Dayz is about. -
Will the release of the single player game signal the death of the modding community?
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to piffaroni's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
1: NOT a "single player" game. 2: The STANDALONE is not a mod. It's a standalone title. 3: Yeah. No mods. While mods can be great, they are completely ruining the concept of DayZ. The game is trying to accomplish a specific experience, and when servers are constantly modding the game by taking away night time, adding hundreds of vehicles, spawning players with all sorts of equipment - they are basically just breaking the rules of the game just so they can get higher traffic than other servers. This results in the gameplay breaking down into "DeathmatchZ" and putting time and effort into surviving fall by the wayside. 4: Speak for yourself. Those are not my favorite weapons. -
I admin on US264. We are totally vanilla except that we have a debug. However, the debug only shows blood, humanity, and FPS. Except for that, everything else is normal. Normal loot spawns and amounts, starting gear, heli crashes, buildings, vehicles, etc. Keep in mind that if you haven't been playing for a while, 1.8 is a bit different, mainly in the fact that loot spawns in new places (outside buildings, in busy roads, on dams, etc) and seems to be more abundant. Actually, one of the private hive's servers (#2) is quite unpopulated. It has about 2-6 players usually, as well as the fact that the server has over 1000 vehicles, meaning you will be able to find a chopper easily to get up to North West Airfield. -
Wolf Regiment How's it going DayZMod forums? Long time no see. Anyways, I'm here today to announce the opening of a brand new Epoch server! It has literally been up for less than a full day as of this post, so join ASAP and secure your base and vehicles! If that isn't reason enough to hop and check it out, then I suppose I could tell you that the server is ran by experienced people who know what they are doing. We are fair in all disciplinary matters and have no rules other than the obvious ones (No voice on side, Use common sense, Respect admins, etc). You want to be a Lone Wolf bandit and blow things up? Go ahead! Who are we to change how you play? Same goes for all those heroes out there, too! We have lots of vehicles, 700 in fact, for you to travel the vast wasteland of chernarus with relative ease. Be weary, however! Bandits lurk along the roads to hot spots, awaiting unsuspecting survivors to stumble across their path! Our Website: http://wolfregiment.enjin.com/ (Work in progress) Our TS3: 108.184.160.70 Our Server IP: 23.29.126.138:2312 See you in the wasteland, everyone!

Mostly new server for the really hardcore players (No third person & official hive). Vehicles are still abundant as of right now. Rather active admin and I try to keep an eye out for duping, combat logging, or any other suspicious activity. Population is still pretty low but would love to have people jump on. If you have any issues either PM me here or hit the email on the MOTD in-game. Hope to see you online! -

no 'official' means nothing. used to mean public hive, but yesterday i saw someone posted about their 'official' server which was dayz overwatch - not regular dayz - with 12934029354u092 vehicles and 03485703956830456 helicopters... just got to keep trying really dude, since my return to dayz in the last month or two i havent encountered one hacker on a public hive server, which fucking shocked me to say the least considering the state dayz was in with hackers before i took time out (due to lack of internet, wasn't a choice of my own)
