  1. I think that making people wait a certain amount of time before being able to move over to the next cell is a good idea. I was talking to a few friends about the idea last night and one of them did bring up the fact that people could use these cells to escape combat. One problem/dilemma would be aircraft. Are they just going to float in the air or something? If two choppers are in a fight and one tries to escape into another cell, is there the possibility that the chopper chasing it could ram it or something? Same for vehicles too.
  2. Is there any word on how servers are going to be set up in the SA? How strict is BIS control going to be, can anbody just start a server like you can with Arma? I understand that the guy who pays the rent wants some control over "his" server e.g. dificulty settings or time of day etc. Hopefully things like more vehicles, more weapons won't be possible, in the end it's Rocket/BI's game. How does this work in other popular MP games?

    Admin Abuse and How to stop it.

    Arma 2 (and 3) are made to be modded. Hell, without that DayZ, Wasteland and many more wouldn't exist. To make mods the ability has to be there to spawn items/vehicles and see player positions. To stop this in arma 2 is impossible, admins having the tools to keep this in check is the only way. Unfortunately some abuse these tools. Some people instead of improving at the game and crushing their shortcomings have chosen to run their own server. They are shit players and if they rely on admin tools to win then they will get worse at the game. SA is said to be released on a major public hive which will be controlled by BIS. This will hopefully mean responsible admins. If the SA sever files do eventually get given to the public and private hives return then unless steps are taken to curb abuse it will be the same. As a suggestion how about a thread in the server section where we can list reputable servers and admins for all regions.
  6. We have a small gaming community that we are looking to grow, we have active admins, and support clan play. Our Epoch Server will have alot of custom content added in as we test new weapons/vehicles for balance issues, increased vehicle spawns, custom locations, custom traders, and quite possibly custom loot tables in the future. Our admins are very active and the server is protected by TSW antihack system, allowing us to see and stop hacker activity while also utilizing large banlists provided by multiple communities.     Exactly, which is why I want Rocket to spend a lot of time on the minor details of the vehicles to really make it immersive and to make them stand out. It's one thing for Rocket, as small as his team is, to shit on games being developed by multi-million dollar companies. But, it's another thing to shit on games such as Forza who claim to have the most detailed cars.

    Stole all their vehicles (Including 2 choppers). They stole it all back after I logged out and someone else got the blame for it - still managed to get some weaponry out of it. There were 3 of us taking vehicles and only 2 of them so it took them a bit longer to move it all. A minor inconvenience. Muhaha.

  10. Had to stop and jump in here. Have to agree, private hives are bad as it is inevitable that the admins who pay will feel they deserve a better shot, because they paid. It's like if someone put up a basketball goal on their street and then claimed they could foul all day cause they bought the goal. Who wants to play ball with that guy? Server operators should rent the servers to provide a fair playing field or just not rent at all. There were lots of complaints in the beginning from admins who felt they didn't have enough power. I even heard these complaints from admins who would reset the server to get vehicles to spawn. What gives? I for one don't feel that private hives saved the mod. If anything they drew in more players who had no clue what this game was about. They kept the mod growing at a time when it was big enough already. Private hives may have had some benefit for the community, but in the long run it is far outweighed by the ultimate cost. I got hacked as much as the rest of you, but I kept coming back. And I would have continued to come back. I think there have always been more than enough people enamored with DayZ to ride out the wave of hackers. Instead the hackers were legitimized by private hives. Even if murder were legal, it would still be wrong to anyone with a moral compass. Private hives are a blight on DayZ and should be treated as such. Apologies to the minority of good private hives out there (been on a few), but you must understand you have been outnumbered by those proving the irresponsibility of the masses.

    Open borders. Basically, you split the edge of a cell into maybe four different zones, and when you join the next cell, you are placed in that same quarter or whatever of the next map. I don't see why there would have to be one specific location for it to happen, it would just be a long boundary line and once you reach it, the game would automatically prompt you and ask if you want to travel to the next cell. Clicking yes would open up the browser, no obviously would leave you in the cell you are currently in. Vehicles should have the ability to move across borders (and therefore across servers) as well. Not really... People would naturally want to go out into the frontier to avoid high traffic areas and explore more of the world. Since you can't respawn in those cells, people will probably tend to form groups to accomplish this task. Also the frontier cells could have higher value loot, more zombies, ect. If you build it, people will come. I would do it, so that I could establish a base of some kind and maybe run supplies back to the coast and even help other people travel deeper into the frontier. What we should see is actually a nice little spread of players, with the highest concentrations in the spawn cells, and then dispersing further and further out. I think the constant sort of movement towards the frontier regions would actually give a lot of players a really satisfying life cycle. I'm not sure about the spawning mechanics yet. If the dev team did something like this, it would undoubtedly need tweaking and changes to certain things after the fact, as it's clearly hard to predict what people will do. Spawning only at original locations would indeed be extremely challenging... but I think that players should always have free choice over their original spawn cell whenever they die. So say you die on the way from Chernarus to Lithuania, you might be like, fuck this, I want to spawn in Amsterdam this time (or of course you could choose the closest one if you want to try to retrieve your gear) . That should be a choice players have. It will keep the game feeling nice and fresh.

    Admin Abuse and How to stop it.

    I don't run that kind of operation, but let me make a few points. You will always have players who die and blame the admin because they cannot fathom the idea of being found, followed, or simply spotted. For some, being a target of opportunity = hacker or admin abuse. A good portion of the time when these accusations are made, an admin isn't even on! Missing vehicles or gear out of a camp? Blame the admin. Nevermind the fact that the mod is glitchy or perhaps other players have stumbled onto your prized fortress. Contrary to popular belief, I don't sit there and figure out ways to piss off a playerbase in the need to fulfill my malicious deeds. So a player dies and someone on side chat accusses the admin or another player. Good heavens! It must be true because all players on side chat are a reliable source of information. I'm not saying there aren't douche admins out there, but I believe alot of the admin witchunting is unfounded based on my observations. Simply put, find another server to play on if your argument is legit. There are alot of servers that are ran well enough without worrying about the drama.
  13. This idea of multiple maps combined into one big map has always been a dream of mine for DayZ. I've always loved games with huge maps. Imagine if DayZ's map eventually became the size of Europe. As the OP suggested, you could have different servers host different maps and as you reach the border of one map and get into the other map, it gives you the list of servers hosting that map and you can choose which one you want to join. Maybe some day you could even choose to spawn at a different map? Instead of Chernarus, you could spawn at a map based somewhere in Italy for example. Also, you could find items, clothing, and cars relating to the map you're in. So in Chernarus, you would find Russian weapons, items, clothing, and vehicles. In a map based in France though for example, you would find French weapons, items, etc. This would probably help with trading a lot to since instead of having to travel great distances to get an item from another country, you could trade with some guy who already went there and got what you want. It would help with crafting too for the same reasons. An item needed from far away could be obtained by trading with someone who already got it. Obviously an idea like that would take years to accomplish but it would be one of the coolest things in DayZ, imo.
  14. Hello everyone, Pleased to say this new server I have started up is running the new patch, 1.0.2.4. So far its just a plain vanilla epoch server. Spawn in with minimal gear, PVP/PVE so play as you would like. Group up or be a lone wolf, your choice! The server is based in the United States so US players should have a great connection. Currently hosted with Vilayer and has been running buttery smooth! Wanting to get a great and exciting player base to join regularly. Will be hosting events often with a fellow friend of mine to make the gameplay exciting and entertaining for all. Stary trader has barricades surrounding the side and back side to protect players from ramming vehicles and also keeps the pesky little Zeds away . Adding more content and thinking of ways to make it better for all. So far the Admins are just myself (-Mercenary-) and my personal friend JohhnyWalker. We will help players accordingly as far as issues that may come around. Squads/Clans are welcome. If interested in moving over we can set up a little starter kit to get them going. Going to have a little special start up kit for the first newcomers as well. Admin abuse is nonexistent.     this was something that bothered me recently. was cold at one point after swimming, and i got into a vehicle, started driving on the coastal road. got even colder.... im sorry but i think any military vehicle made after Word War 2 usually had at least a heater... maybe not A/C, but then you have the civy cars that should have a/c and heat in the first place. i mean, maybe military vehicles i could see not having any luxuries, but... a lada? a skoda? Gaz? that crappy old yellow hatch? the Datsun truck? im sure those had heaters. i don't think a "warming self" ability in a car would be hard to implement into the mod right now... other than this, i didnt really take notice with the interiors. been too busy looking at the road rather than the guages. though i do like the radio idea... but i also see it not being really... logical.. i would assume most radio stations would go down after the first week of the apocalypse.. now if it was a cassette thing, that could work... maybe find them among residential loot spawns. could be useful too to put in a car. play the music, and it attract zombies to the far for as long as the music lasts. (since tapes run out.)

    Along with car interiors, I'd also like to see manual and automatic transmissions. In Arma 2, all civilian vehicles are automatic which is something I despised of along with the generic car sounds. Something I'd like to see is.. Working rear view mirrors, something like Arma 3 has.Hands actually steering the wheel.Working features like air conditioning/heater, windshield wipers, possibly radio as well.Opening the trunk; if enough room, could throw a body in there or simply gear.Rolling up/down windows.Better vehicle physics.Cars that don't explode when you hit a tree at about 20 km/hr

    Stopped reading at 'cod kiddies'. Idiots and butthurt losers love that overused term. You're playing a mod that is based on top of a game designed around finding weapons and vehicles and using them to kill people. Bummer that people are actually using those items for their intended purpose...

    Adding .50s Back In

    Those kinds of weapons fill a kind of niche that is not present in DayZ, that being the need to punch through thick armor from a distance. If in the standalone it's possible to find such vehicles (which I doubt) AND weight is taken into account with guns/gear, then it could be a one in a million gun and it could be justified. But at the moment all it's used for is killing people and wrecking cars in 1 hit, both is extreme overkill. Plus you can sprint around with such a heavy gun with no issues with the weight. Then there's the duping and hacking in of weapons that makes such a 'rare' gun way too common. However even if these things are fixed in SA I don't think such a powerful gun has a place in DayZ. This, "pics or it didn't happen". I'd say a photo with the guns + either today's paper or the date on a piece of paper with your forum name should be enough. Until then, nobody believes an 18 year old living in NZ has 2 .50 rifles, even if it's completely true, without pics.
  19. 10/10 server overall. And i'm not just saying this for gold or to be a suck-up or whatever. This server is better than all other Epoch servers for 5 main reasons 1) Intelligent AI that will take your vehicles if left unattended, loot your body and kill you with no mercy 2) Fixes the difficulty of getting gold by setting up missions when theirs people vs AI, and the rewards are not too much nor too little, it unifies the people 3) Awesome admins on 24/7, Literally that will drop whatever their doing to help you 4) Great anti-hack service, almost no hackers have breached the anti-hack of this server 5) Almost no lag, and i have a terrible computer

    DayZ can be very frustrating

    I steer clear of Epoch. The only mod I play outside of Vanilla is DayZero, and it's fairly tame with loot and vehicles. I can share that frustration sometimes, but you have to remember it's just a game. I was playing with some friends, when one of them drags on a friend of his. Annoying little prick NEVER stopped complaining. We found a Technical in DayZero, and attempted to take out a pedo van at Balota. He turns out to be a god awful gunner(PLAY ARMA PLEASE! YOU WILL BE MUCH BETTER! TRUST ME!), and the guys in the van jump out and snipe him off the truck. We were 15 meters away and he still couldn't hit it. And he blames me. He pretty much whined nonstop for the rest of the night, and broke his legs later on. We dropped him off at his Ural and asked for morphine, and we all told him we didn't have any. As soon as he leaves the TS, everyone admits to having two or more packs of morphine on them.

    DayZ can be very frustrating

    I play on an Epoch server called "[1000+]TANKS! JETS! HELI's![custom vehicles] Epoch! and its IP address is 94.23.63.190:2302 I start out with a golden AK-47 I think it is, and a golden handgun. There's many vehicles in some places, just lying around on roads. When you start with a proper weapon it's so much easier and more enjoyable to play, than with a crowbar or whatever melee weapon. I had a double-barrel shotgun with very few rounds, and I wasn't prepared to die. I honestly can't imagine how the player could have survived the plane crash, but apparently he did.
  24. Well hello guys. I always wanted to make the dayz experience more realistic and fun. I've made a little mod a while back ago called Dayz Nexus, here's a link to an old thread: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/126448-dayz-nexus-1761-200-vehicles-acre-jsrs-smk-animations-dogs-ai-base-building-new-skins-custom-loot-scripts-hacker-free/#entry1215844 Basically the mod adds ACRE - which is a radio mod, so people can communicate with radios using TS. The ACRE mod makes a more immersive environment. In this mod everyone who joined the server had to join the TS server and when they were in game it moved them to the ACRE channel. There are different kinds of radios, each one can reach a certain amount of kilometers. I also used shacktack's volume control addon that lets you set the loudness of your voice through the acre radio. I think ACRE adds alot to the game experience and I find it very weird that servers don't use it. So tell me, will you guys be interested in a dayz server with acre implemented in it or maybe in a "realistic" dayz modification? Although my last project didn't go very well I still wanted to give it a shot.
