[Suggestion] Land/Air Vehicles wanted in the SA!?
KT_Cobra replied to xxsheepdoggxx's topic in Suggestions
I'd really like to see very BASIC vehicles in the game. What I mean by this is, nothing better than a jeep for ground movement, nothing better than a dingy for water movement, and honestly, in my opinion, absolutely no air vehicles. Should there be bicycles? - sure. That's a great vehicle to have during the apocalypse, but anything that holds a HUGE advantage over a survivor who has a gun and can defend him/herself but is still worthless because of some stupidly decked out or fast moving vehicle would ruin the "desperate survival" aspect of the game. Again, in my personal opinion, it would cause the game to go from having someone think out every move carefully to the thought of "GET TO THE CHOPPA" constantly. -
I did it myself hehe! They could be fixed after server restart, how about that? Anyways once vehicles are in the game you won't need wirecutters as long as you got a decent ride

The Map is smaller when compared to Day Z Mod's Chernarus
Gekkonidae replied to AG-D.Wright's topic in General Discussion
If the sprint speed is faster, i'm alright with that at the moment. We don't have vehicles. -
New Epoch Chernarus Server, come claim your spot! 198.24.172.74 : 2762 --SARGE AI MISSIONS -SBB ~350 VEHICLES (all types including helis spawned around map) Server Content is still underdevelopment and new things will be implemented. NEWLY ADDED SINCE OP: -Trade City Safe Zones, You go into god mode and have weapons disabled when in trader cities. -Combination Lock added to Stary building supply trader Breaking Baddiez emerged from a group of real life mutual friends coming together to shoot zombies and people. We're based in EST and so is the server. Data center is in VA and the server runs a full 24hour day/night cycle based in EST. Right now, there are tons of AI all over the map just waiting to be killed.. or kill you perhaps, those pesky snipers are pretty good shots ;) The missions yield a hefty prize to anyone who can take out the groups of armed AI. More Missions to come soon! Admin events in the works! Server Rules: Side Chat is TEXT ONLY unless you need to contact an admin, then feel free to mic up and ask for help. Theft in Trade Cities may result in kick or ban. (safe area script coming soon) BASE RAIDING IS ALLOWED! PVP and PVE HAVE FUN!

bayonets, suppressors, cars, and cooking, what first?
drsheepbringer replied to commanderbash's topic in Suggestions
When they have vehicles they better have fuel problems. This way industry towns would be a key resource, well at least for citybattles. -
bayonets, suppressors, cars, and cooking, what first?
gregor (DayZ) replied to commanderbash's topic in Suggestions
Instead of the bayonet i would prefer the rifle butt melee. Also i want overall lowering speed of running, walking in game and implementing soon the stamina. That give at least a little meaning for vehicles. And the first vehicles may be bicycles and mopeds. Like this "Riga 7" -
The Map is smaller when compared to Day Z Mod's Chernarus
EndEffeKt replied to AG-D.Wright's topic in General Discussion
Its all due to two missing features. Stamina and that insanely high amonth of ressources sprinting drained in the mod. It just feels freaking bad if you overlook a place and see roadrunner-bambies vanishing in the distance :D Normal travelspeed has to be jogging or even walking again. That will make the map feel much bigger, will add a need for vehicles and makes it all in all more authentic. At the moment you cannot only travel more distance/time with sprinting. I think you can also travel more distance/1000 water, which has to be changed. Later on walking needs to be the most efficient way of travel, while jogging, running and sprinting need to drain expotentially more ressources. So you can decide to jog through the land, because you dont want to waste too much time by walking, but at the same time dont have that much ressources to support running over bigger distances. -
"I don’t want to get people’s hopes up about a skill system or skill tree..." and then his sentence continues with "...so we’re more looking at how players develop the abilities to do certain things, and how players develop the ability to get better at doing things." :D And later: "A couple of examples we thought of were very advanced skills, such as advanced repair of aircraft and vehicles. That’s not a skill that everybody has. And various doctor-related skills. They aren’t things that everybody just has; they’re things that maybe people can learn, but they’ll require practice and maybe some social interaction." The interview was in Feb. 2013.

>.> Vehicles attract to much attention anyway. And that's how they should be. A lofty goal to work towards.
-
I'm pretty sure that there's a stamina system in the works... Sleeping, while it would be "realistic", wouldn't really make sense. Maybe your character sleeps while you sleep. I think a lot of people are going to be in for a rude awakening when vehicles are added... 90% of the playerbase will not have vehicles at any given time. They're difficult to get up and running and liable to being 'stolen' once you do have one. You'll still be doing a lot of walking.

The Map is smaller when compared to Day Z Mod's Chernarus
Etherious replied to AG-D.Wright's topic in General Discussion
Although it does still feel smaller even though it's not. I don't even care for vehicles at this point, if it feels this small. -
Sleeping? Not so much. It works in single player games because of waiting mechanics (Like in Skyrim + associated mods). In multilayer it's just a bother. To much of a limiter on gameplay time. Running limitations? Maybe. After vehicles. But not now.
-
I think that would be a great idea for vehicles, as when you sat in the back of one in the mod, your entire life was in the hands of the driver, and whether he would stop and get out or try and make a run. Also with the SA, the fact that most players would have a sort of civilian weapon would make it so the vehicle doesn't turn into one giant turret of automatic fire, and more so the focus of light suppression in order for an escape to take place, with the very small chance of an actual hit or kill. It would have nearly no effect on a group of people pulling off a good ambush, but it might make a lone player or small group think twice about trying a shoddy ambush attempt. Just my opinion though :D

where did the private hives go?
Caboose187 (DayZ) replied to fuckasshole's topic in General Discussion
Do you have any experience with these forums? Multiple threads asking for mods Multiple threads for easier to find loot aka gear Multiple threads for being able to identify people Multiple threads for vehicles so we don't have to walk anymore...... the list goes on. And sorry bro, I played the original mod which makes this version look like a kids playground. Then I played the modded versions of the mod which were complete and utter garbage by handing you gear like it was going out of style which brings us back around to people wanting mods so they can make this game easier. Oh and back on topic. There was no private servers. -
Yeah we could have them spend all that time polishing and optimizing the game in its present state. And then they add that one new feature that breaks everything again because of an unforseen interconnection with something (or more likely, somethings) else. They are, at the moment in the 'Alpha' phase of development. That means they are going to be adding in the core framework on which they intend to hang the rest of the game. This is currently introducing bugs and glitches at around the same rate that they are being found and patched over. This was forseen an warned about in big letters before you were able to purchase it. For me, I can't wait to see the bugs they introduce when they start adding in the major component to the game: vehicles, persistant stroage (tents), base building. This game is going to topple over for each and every one of these things, and like many others here, we'll be there to help push it back upright and set it back in the direction that it needs to be going in. TL;DR: If you are wanting to play a polished, optimised and finished DayZ, I'd suggest you come back in a year or so. Before then is just potential and heartache aplenty!

Sleeping and infinite running
Caboose187 (DayZ) replied to rodolfoxiii's topic in General Discussion
You talk like vehicles will be all over the place and you can hop in and drive right off the bat.. Assuming this game sticks to it's guns(it sure is showing that it's not), vehicles will need parts that are hard to find as well as fuel to run the vehicle. Not to mention you'll have to maintain these vehicles, again with parts that are hard to come by so I suggest you get used to the walking. -
You named a solution that does not exist. Every private hive server I've ever seen is some variation of extra vehicles and starter kits, because as I said before, that's how they keep the donations coming in. So fuck off with that, I know it seems like an easily fixed problem, but it's not actually gonna happen, because survival private hives don't exist, while the casual ones sponge up all the players, which starves the public servers, and noone wants to play on an empty server. Mods for the dayz mod were pretty good, but they had their own issues, if by mods you mean Epoch or Breaking point, but if you mean auto refuel, extra buildings, self bloodbag to full health, etc then you're entirely wrong. Those mods were there to circumvent aspects of the vanilla mod that got in the way of people getting full milgear in the first half hour, and only added to the deathmatch mentality we're currently trying to overcome at the moment. Do you want private hives to solve hopping, combat logging and ghosting? or do you want them for the 1000 vehicles and start kits? It's ok if you do, but then you should say so, rather than claiming they fix all the problems, yet ignoring all the problems they introduce. What if the public hives solved hopping, logging and ghosting? would you still want private hives?

The Map is smaller when compared to Day Z Mod's Chernarus
AG-D.Wright replied to AG-D.Wright's topic in General Discussion
So, you guys, since it takes a lot less time to get from point A to point B, whats the point of vehicles? In Day Z mod it was necessary since getting around took so long, but now they're not really necessary. -
Hello fellow survivors and bandits! We are a new community looking to expand our player base. We have a steady 6 players at the moment and would like to add more regular players to our server. Sure they do entirely solve those issues. But then bring a whole load of new ones, such as shitty admins, and stupid mods which make the game more casual. If the devs set up their own private hives that would be amazing, but while private hive administration is in the hands of players it nearly always comes down to 1000 vehicles and donor loadouts. Because private hives need those things to survive. so no, private hives the way the mod had them was complete shit. People don't donate without incentives, and so admins have to offer them. This is the reply I received when I asked for a more vanilla private hive on the news that the server I was playing on was getting replaced: "Well you got to think about it, this is a private hive for a reason, which is because of the extra building, clan bases, kits, and all that other good stuff that vanilla servers don't provide, there is or was nothing vanilla about #1 at all, even when #1 was popular. If you really want a vanilla Epoch server or in your case Vanilla DayZ, go play the public hive DayZ server, 100% Vanilla." This statement was made at a time when you were lucky if there was one aussie public hive server up with 20 people in it. So while I understand exactly why a lot of private hives are the way they are, it's still fucking shit.

The infinite running is ok for now. But AS SOON AS vehicles are introduced, there's no reason not to penalise constant running with fatigue and increased hunger/thirst.

Is it worth buying Dayz standalone yet? [With Developer responses]
[email protected] replied to Blade4777980's topic in General Discussion
Short answer NO Player profiles don't save properly STILL...and some performance issue's make the game unplayable in large urban areas due to fps decrease's, rubber-banding and general stuttering. The game also crashes frequently for many players, for which you will be penalized with a login timer. I don't see how they hope to introduce vehicles until game crashing becomes less common; else be prepared to accept the risk of the game crashing during heli flights; where you will lose your character and the heli. -
In my opinion, if Dean and Bohemia are going to add anything new to Chernarus and its terrain, this is a number one must have. I will give a few reasons why and also show why it could add some new experiences to the gameplay. First of all, it would be cool if the police station was located in every major city, just like the fire station but I am ok with having atleast one in Chernogorsk. When you think about it logically, the police would be the first ones to respond to a zombie outbreak even if there is a lot of military compounds located in Chernorus. You would obviously find them in the bigger cities. I think if you happened to be in a zombie outbreak, the police station is one of the most wanted places to head into because of the chances to find armed people who know how to shoot a gun and because of the loot so it makes sense to me. I think the police station should be about the size of the fire station but maybe just a little bigger. The gear that would spawn in there should be semi-military or something along those lines. No double barrel shotguns, ww2 rifles etc. but also no high grade military stuff (m4's, high damage sniper rifles, other assault rifles etc.). I will list the things that it should have below. Pistols: The Makrov pistol: A well known gun from the mod, the thing you would usually associate with Russian weaponry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makarov_pistol The TT pistol: Older pistol used in WW2 that have been upgraded over some time: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TT_pistol And the fairly new MP-443 Grach pistol: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP-443_Grach Submachine guns and carbines: The AKS-74U carbine: Ah, i remember seeing one of these in real life hanging on a police man. They are usually present in a lot of Russian criminal movies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AKS-74U#AKS-74U Small idea: idk what its called but the belt that the police man wears that allows him to have the weapon hanging on his chest, that would be a nice item to have. http://goo.gl/fKt1CX The PP-19 Bizon: This was also present in the mod but if i remember correctly it was only found in the rare helicopter crashes and nobody used it. A fairly new-ish weapon used by the FSB ( the russian equilevant of FBI). Last submachine gun being PP-2000, i could add more but that would be too much i think. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PP-2000. Shotguns: A Saiga, maybe. Btw, since Chernorus isn't exactly Russia, western weapons would be cool too. The pistols would be easy to find, nothing too rare. The submachine guns and the shotguns would be a lot more rare and harder to find, hidden in some good places too. The thing that would balance the submachine guns and the carbines would be that they are not as accurate and don't deal as much damage as the assault rifles. They are good in cities because of their fire rate and mobility but they pretty much suck on longer distances and won't penetrate harder material. Moving to clothes. I think normal police clothes would be nice. But what would be even nicer is some OMON gear (OMON translates into Special Purpose Police Unit which is something along the lines of SWAT). Some typical anti-riot armor you see on the news would be interesting. The funny thing is that Dean actually had one of the bulletproof wests with OMON or the words POLICE written on the back of the west on him in on of his dev blogs: Last but not least, it would be nice to have a small garage with one vehicle spawning very rarely in it. That being the GAZelle which is a common Russian police van. I will show what could make it interesting below after i am done talking about vehicles. The last thing that would be cool would be a small parking lot near the police station where some typical police cars would spawn, nothing unusual. I think that the garage with the big van in it would create some epic situations. When the van had spawned, it would be in a bad condition with wheels and engine broken etc. So it would basically stand there in the garage and there would be no way to move it because of the condition it is in. This would make the die-hard clans with a few people search and repair that thing, because who doesn't want a van that can fit in multiple people? It is a pretty good vehicle for a small squad. The vehicle is located in the city and the place it is located in being a police station would make a lot of tense moments. If you decide to repair it, people basically have to hold the police station from all zombies, looters and incoming bandits that will try to take you out. That will force you to take big risks which could be pretty cool in my opinion. Well, if you actually survived thru this thread, i am suprised lol. I think the police station is highly important in a game like DayZ. If any of the people that work on the game read this, a small response would be great. Thanks for reading.

Realism in games should only be taken so far :p Though infinite sprinting is something I imagine they will alter once vehicles are introduced. Given the lack of respawning loot it would be incredibly tedious, and sometimes impossible, to find enough food to survive if there was a limit on sprinting. Once we have vehicles though, I'd love to see a serious limit on sprinting (taking gear weight into account) as well as a slight decrease in the speed of sprinting. That said, this thread conjures images of bandits going to sleep in game and waking up to see Lucein Lechance standing above them lauding their murderous spirit.

[Suggestion] Land/Air Vehicles wanted in the SA!?

I hear they are gonna allow customization for vehicles...
