Because it makes me play DayZ instead of playing BF3/4 with slower respawn options. ;) Reasons why I like Epoch. 1. Trade system - Now hold on before you go all Loony Toons about how stupid trading systems would be in a Zombie Apocalypse you would actually be very wrong. When supplies get scarce people often have an abundance of one item and lack of another. They often will trade one for the other. The choice of using 1oz metals is appropriate as there is little use for them other than being more rare and a good trade token. Barter systems do not work because of numerous reasons the most common being lack of mutual wants... I have chickens to trade but the guy who has what I want doesn't eat chicken or eggs. Another is lack of "division". A working car is worth how many chickens? The trade system adds value to Epoch because I no longer find myself wandering past something and going, "Eh, I've got the X I want so I won't pick that up." Example: Say I am using an M16A2 and I find an M4A1. I don't just toss out the M16A2 because it has some value. If I can I will hold on to it until I can hit a trade post and then exchange it for something else I want/need. At the same time this does detract from the whole, I need to scavenge for X. However, it does remove some of the "choke points" of regular DayZ. Hospitals, Military Spawns, and such were common points that people would camp to kill others because you HAD to go to a couple places to get X if you needed it. Now you can pick up a bunch of Y and trade for X. Of course that means you have to go to a trader point but it does split up the spots people might camp. 2. Vehicle system - Vehicles can be locked. You can find random vehicles in bad shape around the map and fix them up then use them, or you can sell them and buy other things. Eventually you will probably buy a vehicle. At that point you get a key. Without the key people can't easily run away with your vehicle. This means you CAN actually drive it to a location you intend to run around in. You can log off and have some expectation it might be where you left it. This makes vehicles usable and worth getting. At the same time your vehicle is not totally safe. The easiest method to steal from it or it is to simply wait for someone to forget to lock it or take their key from them. If you are the spiteful sort you can simply destroy a locked vehicle and ruin their day or find one and strip the tires off it. There is also a rare loot drop that allows you to hotwire a car and steal it. The car will be locked after the restart but you could race it over to a trader and sell everything in it as well as the vehicle and make profit from stealing from someone. 3. Real Weight system - They give us HUGE backpacks but everything has a weight and while you might try to cary two Main Rotors, you probably are not carrying them very far. Never pick up two piles of Cinderblocks if there are zombies around because there is a very real chance of you passing out from carrying them and dying. When you are exhausted from carrying heavy things or running for a while with a bit of weight you shake so bad you really can't shoot. This forces you to plan out your routes to avoid carrying heavy things over a long distance. You can load up a backpack with a few guns, but they will weigh you down. You also don't tend to packrat around with your backpack crammed full all the time because it is just too heavy to do reasonably. 4. There is a reason to kill zombies - No really. A bunch of very useful rare drops come off of zombie corpses and you need those to "do things" in Epoch. Want to craft a locked door? Well, you need a combination lock off a "worker" zombie. Hope one drops for you... it might take a good deal of zombies. They are not that much more threatening, but wanting to actively engage them instead of just avoiding them is a nice change. 5. Crafting/Modular Building - This is probably the biggest selling point to Epoch. You can build an actual base. It can be something simply like 4 wooden walls and a roof with a garage door allowing you access to the inside, to elaborate fortress designs with multiple layers of defense. This lets you stash loot and have it be moderately secure. People can still raid your base and nearly everything is destructible so you need to plan on loosing it, but it isn't a tent in the woods that anyone can access, they need to go through some effort to get your stuff, not just walk up to it and hit the scroll wheel. It gives you something to do once you have some food, some drink, ammo, and the gun you want, besides, "Let's go shoot someone." You still shoot at people but it isn't the only reason to log in. Typically you log in and go, "I need some mortar... I guess I'll hit some Industrial Spawns." and off you go hunting up supplies. Instead of, "I need a couple more DMR mags, I used mine up shooting bambis." ====================================== Epoch weaves all these things together so you end up using all the features. You want a base to secure a few items or sometimes to show off. For that you need weapons so you can go loot areas and kill zombies for some of the things you want. You will also need a vehicle since building supplies are heavy. Luckily you can lock it and it should still be there after 30 minutes of running around a town looking for loot. Then you need to transport those things to your base area and build while hoping no one spots you. The vehicle has to be close to where you are looting or you will have to make many small trips or stop and rest a lot while moving heavier things to the vehicle. Someone hits your base or steals your vehicle(s) and suddenly you are trying to figure out who it was and return the favor. Someone kills you and takes your pride and joy Chopper Key then flies it away. Well you stashed a spare key in your base so you dig it out and hunt up your helicopter and steal it back. It gives you a lot to do that is interacting with the world and not just trying to work your way up to better guns and full equipment and then hunting people.

No idea why everything has to parachute in, it was a dumb choice considering how delicate vehicles are in this game. It was a mozzie (1 seat homemade chopper), it landed at an angle and boom. Funny thing is, my friend was over and we both laughed 'haha inb4 it blows up'. Fell off our chairs in fits of laughter but I was carrying briefcases of gold and the restart was a few minutes out.

Rocket said something about ripping a door off a car and putting it on another How about cars are invincible (They don't explode) But virtually all the parts can be shot off. So your Door gets shot a couple times, and breaks off, leaving you exposed. Or the trunk could be shot open, and any bullets landing inside would destroy the gear, and stuff would fall out, and your hood being destroyed would destroy the engine. Cars would usaully start out with mostly original parts, and some would be destroyed/damaged. So, say you have a GAZ, and the Fuel tank is broken. You pull this tank off, and instead of destroying it, it adds the damaged tank to your inventory. (Maybe you could patch this tank up for a temporary fix?) And you put a new one on. This tank doesn't work aswell as the original, and wears out faster. It can even damage your car if you put, say, a Skoda tank on it. So as for damaging your car. Say a bandit ambushes you with an M240, kills you, and fucks your car up. Unlike the mod, the car doesn't explode, but everything is shot off, from doors and windows to Batteries and heads. So, you could fix it up, but your going to be putting unoriginal parts on it, and it will wear out faster and performance will be minimal. This would nerf being able to repair your vehicle over and over, and also nerf clans riding around, blowing up every car they don't want. As for fuel, maybe every week it respawns at the stations, a d more will spawn at the remote stations (Like the polana/gorka one) and cans rarely spawn at farms. It , as that makes vehicles useless, but rare enought to make it as valuble as FAL mags or even another car. -
So, i had this idea awhile back. The map would be large (Maybe twice the size of chernarus?) And would consist of Two mainlands and a large Island inbetween. Each mainland would be a different country, Each with its own Vehicles/Weapons. One would be Eastern-influenced, the other Western. So you could tell if the player had been on the western island if he was carrying and M4, M9, ect, becuase these wouldn't spawn on the eastern island. The island in the middle would be a sort of No-mans land with bridges connecting it to the mainlands, making the bridges warzones. There would be an derlic US fleet in the open water, the carrier spawning the best loot around Heres a few Weapons/items/vehicles that would be cool Armored: BTR-40 (Dshk) BRDM-2 (Hq) M113 M113 ambulance Cars Uaz (Dshk) Hmmvee (m240) Gaz-66 PTS (tracked amphibious vehicle) GAZ-51 VW Beetle Air: MI-26 (can transport vehicles) Weapons The western side would have alot of M16/4s, and Rarer FALs, and for LMGs, A 7.62 Nato Bren, and an MG3 (Mg42). For pistols, Browning HPs and Walther P1s. The easterb side would have Akm/s's, Ak(s)-74's, Abd SKS's, abd for Lmgs, Rpk and 74, RPD's and PKM's, and pistols would be tokarevs and Makarovs. Military weapons would be rarer and Civilian weapons would include: Mosin m91/30 and M44 Mauser G98 SKS PPs-43 and Ppsh Single-shot hunting rifle Ruger .22 Rifles and pistols Remingon Shotguns TOZ-194s Nagant 1895s, Tt33s And many more So, what does (anyone?) Think? I have no way of making thid myself but would love to see something like it in a mod!

Hello, we have just set up a new Epoch Chernarus server @ 198.154.118.42:4100 Anti-hack and Battle-eye clients are used. All are welcome, if you are with a group get with an admin to get a care package. I gotta ask, where are these affirmitive responses coming from? Its five times the damage o an AS50... last time i checked, vehicles didnt blow up one shot with a 7.62, sure the head as a module is much easier to destroy, it does seem to have a damage multiplyer on it, but i have never seen over about 30k from one(to the body it was 8k for a 7.62... even with satchels, having a few million damage, but thats spread over the blast radius, i havnt seen this sort o blood loss.) So in these servers with the adjusted damages,i take it you can take a .303, and level buildings?

I once sneezed and someone in my family I haven't seen in 3 years died. I started holding my sneezes in so I don't kill again. :rolleyes: On topic: 1. Yes, play vanilla first. Play a lot of it. When you do become bored of Vanilla I would recommend Epoch but even there try and find an Epoch server that is vanilla Epoch or close to it, it will be a much better experience. 2. Don't worry about a clan, but finding 3-4 people who play about the time you play isn't a bad idea. It's always nice to have someone who will watch your back and that you can actively trust since most of the people you meet suddenly in game you should probably only trust only while their gun is pointed away from you. 3. Yes and no. Official DayZ vanilla servers are on Hives which means that if you log off from one and then log into a different one anything on your person goes with you. Tents and vehicles do not. This leads to some interesting things where people gear up and hide tents on less busy servers and then hop into busy ones for PVP. Private hives you start with a fresh character and it saves only to that server so any progress you make is lost if you switch servers. I almost prefer those. 4. I have had no issue with DayZ/ARMA II on Windows 8 or 8.1... I wish I could say that about all my games. -

Hi, I would like to have very limited server tools. I think there should be no tools that can give an admin advantage over other players. The tools can be things like, third player view on/off, or something like that. I think server tools shouldn't include anything regarding player/loot/vehicles location, being able to spawn items teleportation and any kind of tools that can give an administrator advantage over other players. -

Thank you very much kind sir. Wasn't too hard after all. :) Now - I don't think dgeesio understands what rocket means by that. I can't see any of this happening: As these tools were ultimately a reason to distrust every administrator in the community. It currently is on a level that any player usually suggests that any administrator having these sort of tools will abuse it leading to a point that people like me can't really enjoy playing on the servers anymore. If I would play normally they would accuse me of abusing my powers to kill people or to find vehicles / spawn items in. While I understand where it is originating - as the DayZ playerbase has seen too many of these things happening not only by scriptkiddies who usually share the same powers with admins these days (as many admintools are simply taken off hackscripts and executed serverside) - I believe the only thing coming out of this is that players are poisoning their minds with disbelief and distrust against the administrators of the servers they're playing on. It is easy to call "HAX" or "ABOOSE" these days and if anything like this will have a place in Standalone I will have to think about retiring, as I wouldn't be able to play the game anymore. This will only lead to communities being leaderless because of tools that shouldn't have a use anywhere, but have to be on any server these days in order to protect it from the imminent threat of the scriptkiddies (that are still out there.) This shouldn't be the case in SA and thus there's no use in any admintools like that. Back to my first point: I am fairly certain that rocket only meant they haven't developed a usable interfact for Administrators yet so they can restart their servers / set up the name of the server / host servers in general without having the ability to alter anything, as this would require an Administrator Control Panel, possibly web-based and someone has to develop that. -

To answer your questions in a classy and mature way: I have posted a video before somewhere on here.. how an admin could even see the path you took to where you are now with 30sec updates, he could see your inventory, where the vehicles are on the map and spawn himself with any type of gear(thats now impossible with the new MMO architecture). My perfect DayZ experience would have official servers only. Or people who will just host a server with no tools at all. Not even an off /reset switch to flip when they are butt hurt about being killed. -
okay rocket says he wants/wanted feedback on Standalone server tools. please add what you want to know about and see if any of the devs or the man himself will help us find out what may or may not be included. heres 3 questions i would like to know about. so basic questions that should be answered about tools - Q- Can admin see your place on map live ? Q- Can admin give gear or spawn gear for him or others (including vehicles when in ) ? Q- Will other server tools be allowed ? so say a server group/hosting company makes a 3rd party viewing tool will that be banned or stopped? some companies have made server tools that show 24/7 positions and many admins use this currently. lets keep this about questions and not i dont abuse tools or this or that just questions or feedback on what you would like to know about the " server tools " when added.

FEEDBACK ! hahah i have asked every dev in some form or manner about how server tools are going to be done and handled. response in the last six months has been literally nothing ! its one of the most important things in SA ! if abused the tools are worse than hacking ! alot do abuse aswell on game. take a look at selling gear packages and 24/7 live watching of people. it ruins the game ! in no other game i can think of is that kind of explotation even in a admin tool because its retarded and too easy too abuse ! no admin is going to admit doing it but since ive played i can honestly say majority of admins will at some point do it whether they admit to it or not . that will piss some off but its easy to spot when people have done it and when they havent. i dont want rocket or a dev to respond to me personally he probably doesnt like me , thats fine ! but ffs respond to the queries about the tools and confirm what is what and what can and cant be abused. make the game be about playing not sucking admins ass or paying for gear or being watched all over map make it fun and fair that is all i ask and have asked for months. for any server admins ready to jump in double footed he wanted feedback there it is. if you dont abuse tools then why are you diving in ;) look forward to reply devs on this matter but i fear some of the exploits will still remain. if so the one game i trully want to succeed is going to be the one game i dont buy ! :( so basic questions that should be answered about tools - Q- Can admin see your place on map live ? Added (in beta, might be taken out if too buggy): Mi17's and Refuel trucks can be used as mobile repair, refuel and re ammo vehicles. You'll still need to pay for the ammo and repair , refuel is always free :)
