  2. Regarding 1. The world you are playing in remains the same no matter the server with the exception of your vehicles and tents that you chose to place. The environment (cities, mountains etc.) stays the same. The pool of other survivors changes but that just adds to the feeling of "I have no idea what's going on in a zombie apocalypse. I would hardly call that problematic. In fact, you have access to a greater pool of potential stories through the access to 100s of thousands of other players. Write that story with YOUR character. 2. If I have a tent in the woods and switch to a server where the tent is not transfered, then so be it. The tent is still there on the server I had it placed. I chose to switch servers because I couldn't find whatever I searched for on the server I placed the tent. AND, I can return to my tent whenever I want by switching back to the server. Having multiple characters alive is far more immersion breaking to me. I want to play as "Sensemann". I am alive, I am unique. If I get killed, I restart and be "Sensemann" again. I simply don't want to have "Sensemann 1" with tent and car alive on server #1 and because the server is full, have to start with "Sensemann 2" on server #9. While connecting, I figure that I have had "Sensemann 29" still alive there and I am far off what I wanted to initially do with "Sensemann 1". I hope that's confusing enough now and brings across my reasons of why my character is far more important to me than a tent that I use once in a while and it not appearing on all servers with me. 3. How many times have you been a victim of someone server hopping? I know it's hard to judge, but to me, in approx. 800 hours of DayZ playtime, I am positive that it has happened to me maybe 3 times (2 times with 100% confirmation). I am not willing to give up a basic game mechanic that 100% affects each time I play for reducing the exploits of 1% that, I am sure, will find another way to beat the system with whatever else exploits they can figure. That's the sadness of online gaming. Anyways, nice discussion with you. Keep it real.

Hi, this is my new server DayZ Chernarus 1.8.0.3 SS Anti-Hack 900+ vehicles, All vehicles Spawned Repaired,AI Units(192.111.147.39:4070) there are vehicles everywhere, there are roamin AI, all vehicles spawn in repaired, come and play and have a great time, the more people the better it will be.
  4. The whole DayZ mod went downhill when everybody and their mother could host servers and add a quadrouplezillion vehicles, weapons and what not in it. That time, DayZ became a simple FPS which included finding a weapon. Having more than 1 character further ridiculed the initial idea to stay alive as long as possible, because, you weren't writing "YOUR STORY" anymore. You didn't feel attached to your character anymore AT ALL. What I was suggesting is not accomodating to players with less playtime. In fact, it's the fairest situation a game can provide. People with more time for the game will get more experience and most likely find more and better stuff. That's simply how it is. No game can really change that and in DayZ, that shouldn't change either. My suggestion with tents not being accessible for the person who set it up once dead is of course leaving a backdoor open for those in clans. But in which game is a clan not in advantage towards a single player? In the mod, a lot of players, including me, often played at times with low player counts. Set up tents everywhere, stash them with weapons, food and other items. Get killed, go to one of your tents and be ready to KOS within 30 minutes. THAT's what my suggestion should help minimizing. I don't care about streamers and I am not suggesting what I said for streamers. However, I have been a victim of "teleporting" of players (through logging into other servers and relogging into the server where I played) more than once. It's just god damn awful. Suggesting more than 1 character per player is minimizing the value you have with your character. It heavily supports KOS mentality and do stuff that you wouldn't do if you had only one character. The whole DayZ mod went downhill from the moment you had multiple characters and thousand tons of loot easily available to everyone.
  5. So when the DayZ Mod first came out, the type of game was really kind of unheard of. And then from there it exploded. The mod became a smashing hit and everyone wanted to play. It boosted ArmA's popularity big time (even as a hardcore ArmA fan I have to admit DayZ changed the games popularity forever.) Then all these variations of the mod came spiraling into the picture. The big ones of course being Epoch and Origins. But now the mod is becoming a little stale even with Origins and Epoch out. But what if we took all the good stuff from both and mashed them together to make a Supermod. I mean lets be honest the Standalone will be great when it finally comes out. And the mod will slip into forgoteness. However, a complete Standalone game is at least a year away. Even with Alpha rumored to be coming out soon, they've said it themselves and this is what its taken as "Alpha is gonna suck. We know that. We have a sh*tload of work to get done but we need to give you guys something so we can get feedback." But back on the main topic, what if that type of mod was developed soon and gave people something to make them love DayZ to it's fullest again and made people anticipate the Standalone again. For some examples what if we took this From Epoch - The currency system, which is the reason we love epoch - Trading safe zones - More vehicles - All sorts of crafting From Origins - Craftable Vehicles - Survivor made houses - The humanity/levelup system they have And thats just some stuff. You tweak it all add some other content, like more civilian based weapons instead of hardcore military automatics everywhere, the traders to have a limited stock so you cant stockpile weapons easily, and you could have a super power mod! Am I the only one who has thought this way because I feel like I am. Feel free to shoot me down on this because I was just throwing it out there because I thought "why has no one thought of this" And maybe they have! But I haven't seen it anywhere so I figured I'd throw it out there and see what you guys think.

    Another Quick Update 5 December 2013

    It is pretty easy, first of all nobody force you to join any server, second they can do it like Epoch do it, there are privat server (custom) and also public server (official), that's it. I will never pay for a server like an origins server, you pay and they decide what they do with it. What you say is, like everybody has to buy a red car..., I say everbody can decide what color he wants and what kind of car. But I agree with the 1000 cars, I got 308 cars on taviana, including 84 locked vehicles, but every serverowner should be able to choose how many cars he want to have on his server and the player can choose the server they want to play on, if he like 1000 cars or 10 cars.

  9. 10/12/13 - Vehicle Spawn Script Enhancements - Enhancements made to dayzmod hive default vehicle spawn script to add some unpredictability to the state of vehicles when they spawn.
  10. Everything seems ok so far. Database is unaffected and in-game content from the previous server seems to be there, i.e bases, vehicles, players inventories, safes, etc.. etc... So far so good..
  11. Hey matey, you're welcome to check out our Epoch server, link in signature. We're more than happy for players to go PvP (we already have a couple of very hostile bandit groups!) and encourage players attacking bases. The only rules we have are based on common sense and are there to prevent griefing, arguments, flaming and rage quitting which are that you cant destroy bases or vehicles within bases. You' re more than welcome to steal vehicles, raid bases, camp bases, attack players within bases, camp air fields rob players, Kill on sight etc. If youa re interested details are in mm signture, if not good luck with your search and you might want to try Must gaming servers

    DayZ SA Idea *Suspense*

    One thing I would like to see for longer weapons is air resistance at high speeds, so the gun in pushed in the opposite direction the car is going.This should only happen with your hand out the window, so shooting across the cabin wouldn't have that effect, unless you didn't have a front & back window. If you have a large gun you can hit the end of the door and maybe use the lean button to kinda climb out the window and shoot overtop of the car for less control but a larger uninhibited field of fire. At the same time, I would like to see guns doing greater/ more realistic/ a larger range of damage to vehicles. Everything from tires being shot out, oil lines being severed, engine block damage, brake disks being cracked, brake fluid leaks, transmission, broken windscreens (with first person only driving pls) and other stuff that basically makes risking retaliation fire pretty dangerous.
  14. Regarding multiple characters: I am strictly against it. I am sure that I know most of the pro & con's of having only 1 single character as well as having multiple characters. As much as I appreciate Katana67's points and I am actually agreeing that many points are valid, the reason for me being against it is simply consistency. There are players that can invest 100 hours a week into the game and there are players that can invest 10 hours a week into a game. Meaning: People with a lot of time are at an advantage anyway. Now for the amount of time I have to put into the game, I want consistency. I log out at Stary Sobor on sunday night? I want to respawn again at Stary Sobor on friday evening. No matter which server I enter. I want to continue with my character and continue to write my DayZ story. The one point, besides servers that offered 1000+ vehicles & a mini-nuke-AK 107 flamethrowing M 16 as starter gear, was that there was no more persistancy in gameplay. You logged out and played on another server the next day? You start from 0. You have a 52 days old character and are totally geared (happened to me once) and your regular server shuts down? You start from 0. This is not what I want to play. Every time I play, I face better geared players who spent more time into the game than me. Or I face multiple team members of a clan that are managing several vehicles and helicopters. So what? This doesn't affect me as long as I don't get in touch with them. The problem of server-hopping should be targeted on different ancles. First, make it that tents are not accessible to the player who set them up once he died. Once he died, leave the tent active for 24 hours in case other players find it. This will reduce a lot of the heavy gearing of people (besides, maybe even reducing PvP as gearing up again is the same for everyone). Maybe it's possible to create "zones" on the map on which server hopping is randomized. For example, somebody that is on a full server at the airfield and wants to switch to a server with lower player numbers, to loot with ease, gets respawned in a radius of 1 kilometer of his location. Same should apply for any building, as in "you cannot respawn inside a building you logged off. This would greatly reduce stream snipers or guys that go to locations on other servers on which they know a sniper is located, just to spawn near them. But DON'T, and I cannot say it too many times, allow multiple characters. If anything is as much as immersion breaking, it's having multiple characters.

    What do people want to have in a epoch server?

    I think no self blood-bag would be nice, AI bandits and missions would be cool. No added buildings, only one or two safe traders (starry cannot be safe) not alot of vehicles but if i wanted a car i could find at least 3 in berezino. If you can find anything better than a beat up dirt bike in Cherno its too many vehicles. an OK starting load out, like a Winchester and revolver. ( personally i like a nice starting loadout in epoch, but normally I play vanilla dayz, on the public hive) If you listen to what people want its bound to get a good population right? lets hope

So rocket went on a posting spree over at 4-Chan, and some of us guys (MrGuy92 on steam) Picked up some of it, since it was kind of jumbled I quickly reformatted it and figured I'd leave it here for everyone that missed it (or is incapable of reading 4-chan such as myself). Some of the questions may be off, I can't really figure out how to work 4-Chan so I am going to try and inference from what the answer is. Any question with a (?) is basically I am not sure if that was the question being asked, so as always, take everything with a grain of salt. As more questions and answers come in, I'll be sure to post them. Q: Can you clear areas of Zombies? yes, you can clear areas. the zombies are very WIP. we need to go truly multi-threaded on the server before we get too advanced, and shift zombies off onto their own core. then we will get more advanced with respawn. Q: What happened today? A lot of bug fixing but still cloning. but we're on the way with it. I'll try post an update on the forums later with some info. Q: WHEN WILL ALHPER BE OUT?!?! I have a good idea when but you just never know and if I said, it could just end up disappointing. If you saw the stream you would have seen major things that had to be fixed. Q: WHY ISN'T ALPHER OUT?!?! Well I mean its been a crazy tough mess of a year. we'd take one thing apart, and realize we needed to redo other whole bits. its not that the engine is bad, it's pretty good - its just that what we were doing was not what it was designed to do. And scripts.... they are way to slow. so we need to move everything into engine. that takes time. We're not quite at "cool new stuff" again yet, but we will be soon. Hiring some new people will help with that. The alpha is going to be a shock, for us because it will focus us on fixing the billions of simple bugs found... and for everyone else when they realize this is not a game but a platform for the future. Q: When does the new sound guy start? He's signed the contract but i'm not sure when he starts. hicks will know, could tweet him and ask. but realistically, even if he started today he wouldn't be very productive for december. Also, we need to pair him with a programmer and rewrite how we handle some of the sounds, to improve the ambiance etc... esp indoors. Q: Any planned changes to the inventory/loot? (?) We'll review how inventory works (and what items we have) once we have permanent world economy working, still a ways away. Q: Any news on the new hires? One of the new map guys (an american, community guy who does amazing work) has been adding streams and things. they are amazing. but its not all great, in the stream I run onto the edge of the map and the forest was pretty typical there. but overall the map is really something I think they did a good job with. Q: Will there be drugs in SA? Yes, we believe it is quite important. i'll be pissed if we have to cut it for australia or something though. Q: How does loot spawning work/how is it handled/how balanced is loot in SA? (?) Loot tables are all over the place at the moment, its extremely hard to balance (currently, there are over 900,000 individual spots a loot item can spawn). We're having a HELL of a time with that. Expect it to be revised heavily, probably redeveloped entirely with the database issued spawning when it comes later. Q: It seems like you died too quickly of hunger/thirst in the steams (?) What is the most common cause of Death? Hunger and thirst is a bit OP for now in the standalone. and the text indicators (my idea) ended up being really stupid in practice. we will do something better later. most people are bleeding to death currently. the rest tend to die of infection. Q: FOV is funny... Someone pointed out the fov looks like it's zooming. I've bugged this up, hopefully it gets fixed. so i dont really trust what the engine is telling me for default fov. Q: Any plans for a Stamina system? Stamina is probably going to be important for us to implement now we are allowing players to strap stuff to backpacks, otherwise you will be able to have like six different weapons and stuff. Q: So how about that talk of getting streamsers and YT'ers to help test the pre-alpher? If it becomes very important (getting a lot more testers) we will do it. today we smashed the central server by ddosing it with our hosted servers. seemed fine, least of our problems. Q: So Australia is going to hate this game right? (?) I dont know. honestly, it's a little terrifying in some ways because you wonder how people will really enjoy it. I know we've worked hard, but sometimes you can work hard and something is still shit. Our CEO has a good attitude, he just wants us to make a good game and not worry about sales. I guess we will find when the alpha releases. Q: How will different diseases work/systems they work on? I'm kinda proud of the modifiers system we have. its allowing us to do all sorts of cool stuff (buffs, debuffs, diseases). Peter (one of designers) has been using it to good effect. It's most script based now so I'm limiting its use until it's moved into native engine. then you can expect more interesting stuff. Q: Dafuq you doin on 4-Chan Rocket? dayz first appeared on 4chan before anywhere else. the green text stories were the best in the early days. i hope we can get close to that again. but its tough to say. Q: Is Dayz going to be in (Insert random language here) I don't know full details, but the main UI (not item names etc..) has already been translated by some volunteers for a whole bunch of languages. we have a community translation tool that allows volunteers to translate the game for their area. so I expect pretty quickly we should have a heap of languages. we can also support special character languages. Q: Will Zombies ever be good? I would expect them to be bad to average until we get multithreading on the server working fully, I think Q: I want to defaecate in my enemies water supply rocket! tabled until later, focus has been on core architecture + bugs. Q: Will we see any maps besides Chernarus? I think adding some variation to maps would be good. exactly what variation that is, we need to see what will be possible first I guess Q: Will Melee ever be good? sometimes it can be pretty good. its mainly the engine side of the animations that needs to be cleaned. the detection is good when server performance is good, and your ping is below 100. so I think we'll be okay after some time. Q: Where is Fido Rocket? yeah dogs are planned, but the work to redo the engine was far bigger than I expected. maybe I should have expected it but yeah Q: Will there ever be something like birds in the game, say there's noise and you can hear/see birds leaving the area being a sign that someone might be near, be it a player, animal or a zombie First we have to overhaul the ambient animal system which doesn't work in MP. we've gone some way with that, but then we have to make it work for birds. but these kinds of sound event cues would be really awesome. Ragdoll is done but turned off. we have enough drama and problems without introducing real physics. once we have confirmed existing bugs we'll turn it on. it's made from whats called "bullet physics sdk" which is pretty cool, we can do all sorts with it.   21. It seemed like he said something along the lines of fixing that bug then hitting the button as if it was the last hurdle. I'm definitely more excited since seeing this video anyway. It is certainly getting close and looking way better than the mod. Even without vehicles, which is something I never really cared for much in DayZ vanilla.

    Rocket did say he removed vehicles to completely redo them... I would be disappointed if they haven't changed anything in a ways to help this problem.Surely it was things like this on his mind when he scrapped the vehicles altogether. What else can you think of that is so big that vehicles are pulled from a game like dayZ?

Everyone has answered when it began, not one of you have answered the question why did it all began and more importantly why EVERYONE is doing it these days, compared to last years situation which was actually ok, compared to this, I was playing Taviana, even new spawns try to kill a new spawn. And You try to reason them, they give you no answer thru voice chat, then I went mad and blasted that bambis sorry ass with a G17 which was a spawn weapon, I remember the day when you had no weapons at all on main hive, still people teamed up with you but as soon as they found a gun, well, they gave you some nice KoS as a reward. People really should start working on a mod without zombies, same style gun spawning as dayz, except that all Arma guns are implemented, base building just like in epoch, military vehicles,c130's tanks etc.., drinking, selfbloodbagging etc. Thats how we get rid of these arses maybe... :I

    Well it's easier for vehicles with mounted guns on them, they have a fixed point to fire from, and for the most part a fixed damage for that vehicle. IE a .30 or .50 cal machine gun, a tank barrel, ect. It would more than likely be cumbersome to program a sokda to have 3-4 turrets that take the damage and RPMs of whatever weapon the player has equipped. Not to mention the 'turret' would probably make an invisible bulletproof wall, protecting the player from a headshot. They'ed probably be able to find a way to do it eventually, but it'd take time away from bug smashing they need to do for Alpha.
