    server nukes

You'd think it would be possible to trace your variables, see when all players (and vehicles, probably) died (or had alive value set to 0) and see who the only player was who was alive (or set to 1).

    Server Owners get nothing????

If you don't like a certain private server, don't play on it. Easy. The good thing about private servers is that there is something for everyone. If your idea of fun is self blood bag, M4A1 starting loadout and 10000+ fully repaired vehicles, there are many servers for it. Enjoy. But there will also be good private servers with tougher rulesets, active and fair admins and good, active communities. I always prefered a semi-closed community on a private server to the bullshit that was public hives, where admins couldn't do anything. And though this may be early alpha, I have a bad feeling about the standalones ability to actually counter hacks and cheating. I look forward to private hives once more. But for now I just look forward to the next patch, hopefully changing loot spawning. :D

    Server Owners get nothing????

Private Hives were a Godsend during the Great Hacker Crisis, but along the way something happened and modifications started to occur, 24/7 daylight, custom loadouts, 10,000 vehicles, military loot everywhere, donator perks, AI, admin mega bases, admin powers/dictatorships.....pretty soon finding a good vanilla server was nigh on impossible. I wouldn't want the same thing to happen to SA. Cant we all play the game as the Devs envisioned, warts and all?

    Server Owners get nothing????

I don't think you're factoring in why people go along the path of least resistance. You're saying if it's what they want then let them have it and I have a couple arguments against that. 1. In the case of DayZ people go for the path of least resistance because they don't understand their own excitement over certain features in regular DayZ. If you see a rare item in regular DayZ (helicopters, high powered weapons, vehicles) you think "Wow, I would love to get my hands on that." Then they see a server offering it. They immediately are enticed because they associate these features with their excited feels. They get on these servers, start playing, and get sucked in based on this cheap feeling of having something they didn't actually work for. It's exciting enough to try it out, but they completely lose their respect for the feature, thus with the core idea of DayZ, which is survival (and YES you can have a central theme in a sandbox game). Everything comes easy and then they start treating the game how the last decade of our generation only knows how to treat one: As a full on FPS deathmatch. Keep in mind that most of the people playing DayZ had never tried ARMA so when they hopped on these loaded up servers they could get hours and hours of fun just playing a new game that was essentially ARMA with insignificant zombie things running around... but it wasn't DayZ. Yet, people were still advertising their servers with the DayZ name. Which leads me to my next point- 2. Modding multiplayer games should not be allowed except in cases where they're designed for it/need it (ARMA for ex.). DayZ is its own experience and is a very specific one. If people don't like it they should play something else and stop standing on the shoulders of giants to make it something it's not. Seriously, if only 20,000 people are interested in the DayZ experience then those are the numbers it should have. I don't think that's the case. I think hundreds of thousands of people are interested but a lot get hijacked by people (servers) offering cheap thrills using the DayZ name. When they get bored after a month they move on to the next game, associating DayZ as that game where they flew around in a helicopter the majority of the time and had sniper wars.
  5. If they're basically reskins it would get boring real quick (the weapon load-outs, I mean). I have always been in favour of military weapons, the problem in the mod was that no matter how rare you make something, the server will keep spawning loot indefinitely, making any weapon infinitely obtainable. The item management server feature thingy should fix that. I don't mind the Lee or Kar98 (love that gun), but I don't want JUST those kind of weapons. I want a wide variety of rare items. Meds, guns, ammo, vehicles, vehicle parts, clothing, backpacks, storage (tents etc), and so on.

    Server Owners get nothing????

If you don't want to play DayZ, go play another game with the options you enjoy. I've seen Mods ruin about every kind of FPS game you can think of, from Quake to Counter-Strike to DayZ.. It's an inevitable fact that as soon as people start modding the fuck out of the game it fractures the community and drives people away from the game. If you create private hives (again), you will see the same thing happen to SA that happened to DayZ: The only servers left will be 1000 vehicles, and people who want the core experience will be left sitting on their dicks, and searching for better games.

    Teleport

Greetings, everyone! First of all I want to thank Dean & his team for a good job. Even this is alpha, I have enjoyed so much playing this game. It's not better than Mod yet, but after you make vehicles and fix that zombie/loot respawn bug, I'm sure this will be so amazing. Thank you guys. Teleport Bug Few minutes ago, I was playing SA. I was looting something at Stary Sobor (It's very cool now btw), and after that I decided to go check Kabanino. When I reached Kabanino, I saw that orange tile house. I went in. Thing what I saw first, was a pair of boots. I was like "wow, i gotta take those boots". I went next to boots and press'd TAB, and suddenly - whoOOOP - I'm back inside the green house, in Stary Sobor! I was like "okay, this is alpha, no worries, lets go back Kabanino"... Finally, back in Kabanino. And boots are still here! I was going to try to loot dem boots again, but nope. NOPE! I teleported back to the green house in Stary Sobor. Am I only one who got this bug? I'm not sure what I should do now, will this happen again? :/ inb4 boots of devil huehuehuehue Edit: Sorry for my english, I'm from Finland :^)

    Server Owners get nothing????

Actually I must admit, I run Two private hives, one does have loadouts... and I do admit it killed it for me, I don't play on it... but ALOT of people do, even people without loadouts... and yes it has over 1000+ vehicles, I've been here from the start. I support private but I seen what private can do as in killing the real DayZ game, were as survival random meetups with random players trading gear, equipment even grouping for a bit used to be popular... Even role-playing DemonGroover Mos1ey Do you guys remember the old role-playing days, and the rarity of vehicles, and if you saw a helicopter you were in awe of anyone who was flying it... I support private too you guys, its like to different gamemodes. I do really miss the old dayz, and I hate private for making usually every player who gets on KoS but ina point, even on public people do the same after so long. Plus with private loadout servers, gear and killing doesn't just feel the same, as blowing someones brains out ona public server, you'l know what I mean if you played as long and as much as me.

    Server Owners get nothing????

No. DayZ is not meant to have 1000 vehicles and custom loadouts and 24 days. If you want that shit, go play Battlefield 4. You're the one playing the wrong game, not "us". Some of us don't want the game to be ruined (yes, ruined) by thousands of private hive servers.
  10. Mos1ey

    Server Owners get nothing????

If by more features you mean 10k vehicles, self-blood bagging and 24/7 daylight then yes, I've seen them.
  11. Sickerthansars

    Server Owners get nothing????

I dont really have a problem with the day/night being adjustable it really doesn't affect much in the greater scheme of things. Its when you start adding in 10000 vehicles and insta self healing etc that really breaks the game and turns it into strictly a tdm with "elite" bandits killing freshspawns with lmgs in elektro
  12. And that, if I like this fleshed out bare bone version of the SA more than the mod already, what will bases and vehicles bring this ultra sandbox to? Goty 2013, 2014, 2015

Thoughts so far on Dayz Standalone

I'm pleasantly surprised with the Alpha, it's much smoother and less buggy than I expected, and once you overcome the initial frustration with the food/drink system it's actually pretty good. Of course we are lacking the crafting , animals etc that will make it really interesting. But its a good foundation. I am actually enjoying there being less zombies as well. As survival is harder getting hit by a zombie even once and catching a disease can be fatal makes getting caught out by a zombie quite tense. The reason private hives / servers etc fucked the Mod is because people are idiots. You give them an easy option they take it. I'm really hoping that Rocket keeps Dayz locked up nice and tight so people cant fuck it up. Dayz is better the harder it is, let people add weapons and vehicles , take away night time etc and you just end up back where the mod ended up. Unfortunately a lot of the people are coming into the standalone with that mentality.
  14. You make a few good points, but I think you are being too harsh. The game shows true potential, it has the ability to become something great, and after day 1 their was already a patch. Yes, the zombies need to be fixed, and I know they are working on it. Yes, we need vehicles, and there will be vehicles, be patient. It does not seem like you are mad at the state of the game, but at the slowness of its progress. I personally think you should apply to help build the stand alone.

Things you want to see in SA updates first.

Some work on the drops, vehicles (even just mountain bikes), coughing when sick and much more I cant think of right nwo cuz im tired from all this dayz the last two days haha
  16. Ok so me and my buddy been playing standalone for about 6 hours and have come here to ask some questions 1.When will vehicles be added to servers (weather its just one or loads)? 2.Is the M4A1 the only weapon in the game so far? 3.Is there any way of storing items like tents or something like that? 4.Do we still need silenced mags for a suppressor to work? Any answers would be nice or suggestions on how to store things ? Thanks , zDrewie
  17. This review is pretty long. If you want a quick summary, Scroll down and just read the Pros/Cons section. You can also read my rating if you like. I've been a fan of the DayZ mod since the Summer of 2012, when I began playing. The reason I really wanted to get it was because I watched a video of 3 of my friends running away from 20 zombies while they were heading to Stary Sobor. From there on, i went through all the trouble of trying to put a windows partition onto my mac (yes i have a mac. Please don't give me crap for it, and I know i am going to regret saying that I have a mac because you probably stopped reading and are making a comment now...) and I eventually got the game. Finally, the DayZ Standalone has come out, and I bought it the day it came out. I am going to tell you my personal thoughts of it and wether it is worth buying or not. Note: This review is based on my personal experience with the game. Also, the review is based on the stage the alpha was in when i wrote this (less then 48 hours after release). I know the game is a pre-alpha and that the game has many bugs in it (Rocket even warned us), i'm just reviewing the game in it's current state to let you know if it is worth getting now, etc. Concept: Incase you didn't already know, DayZ is a game about survival. Set in a 230 sq km world (thats actually quite big), you must explore the world, find resources, and survive the harsh zombie apocalypse. You must go into dangerous towns, and find supplies. If you meet somebody along the way, you can team up with them or betray them (or both). Basically, this game is your own story that you can create. It's all unscripted. You make all of the decisions (that is unless you were kidnapped ingame. Then, you are probably screwed). Performance/Optimization: Performance wise, I was actually disappointed. It didn't seem that much different from the actual mod. I was a bit disappointed when i was getting 15 fps in some cities (specifically, Chernogorsk and the 2 cities north of Chernogorsk). My laptop specs aren't very good (Nvidia Geforce GT 650M Graphics card and an intel Hd 4000 Graphics Card, Intel Core i7-3615QM CPU, 2.30 GHz processor), but they were able to run Arma 2 Operation arrowhead in single player (and on domination/Takistan Life Revolution servers) on High/Very High settings with a solid 30 frame rate. On DayZ servers, I would have to lower my settings down a lot, and still, my framerate would often drop below 30. I really hope that the game is optimized a lot more. Thankfully, it is just a pre-alpha, so we have time. I just hope that the DayZ team are working on optimizing the game. GamePlay: Animations feel a lot smoother. It is a lot easier to control your player. Not only is it easy to move around, but you can now jump while running, change weapons while running, and more. The team also added new animations for eating, bandaging, etc. The map of DayZ is gorgeous. Not only does it look great on good visual settings, the specs of the map are impressive. It is 230 sq km big, and 95% of the buildings are enterable. A big problem with the DayZ mod was that everybody would attack you on sight. I have not encountered this in DayZ standalone. Infact, before i wrote this review, i teamed up with 3 people I met in a town north of Cherno. Note: That doens't mean there aren't bandits (this one guy, who i was met and was playing with for about 20 minutes, hit me in the face with a shovel when I told him i was about to die of blood loss). Additionally, since DayZ standalone just came out, I am not sure if this friendliness aspect will stay much longer. Once people get comfortable with the game, and if it becomes too easy to survive by yourself, people will grow less friendly. This is what happened in the mod; it was confusing at first, but then, people realized how easy it was to surive. The new inventory system is very easy to use. It has been transformed into an easy drag and drop system. However, it can be a bit confusing at first. Basic things, such as turning on your flashlight, took some people some time to learn. Also, there were a couple of glitches I encountered where i accidentally somehow made one of my items vanish. Also, switching items was hard to do, and seemed confusing. Gameplay wise, the 4 biggest problems I had (besides some fps issues) were: Almost no loot found, zombies act weird, the melee system is very bad, I was constantly in need for water and food (and this problem is even bigger when I couldn't find any loot). Zombies no longer zig zag as much, but thats about it. They can hit and move through walls, and they aren't very threatening. Then they get to you, they stop, and then 1 second later, claw at you. Then they stop, maybe look around for a couple seconds, and claw at you once more. There also seems to be a lack of zombies in cities. As for the melee system, it does not work at all. It was very hard to hit even a stationary zombie. I would also find myself hitting objects (or other people accidentally) right next to me when I swung. In some cases, I could've sworn i hit somebody behind me. If the melee system acted more like that of Left 4 Dead 2, it would become an extremely affective way of survival. As for lack of loot, thats pretty self explanitory. Remember that group of me and 3 other guys i was talking about? we were looting every single house in a town, and we couldn't find any food or water. Besides these for main problems in the game currently, I found that it was also hard to pick up some loot, and it was hard to get in range of something to complete an action (ex: if i go near a ladder, i will have to position myself a few times until i see the icon that says I can go up the ladder). Also, an old glitch where you can warp through a wall in the firestation tower by jumping onto the ladder on the other side is still there. Pros: Amazing open world Friendly people (as of now) New items such as clothes Zombies don't zigzag anymore New animations New Inventory system Many fun moments with random survivors you meet in the game. Many more features to come ( I didn't mention this, but they are adding more animals to hunt, vehicles, more items and weapons, basebuilding, etc. Lots to look forward to) Cons: Big FPS drops in big cities Although they no longer zigzag, zombies are almost not a threat and they are glitchy. Lack of zombies. Melee weapons are buggy and don't work well. Lack of loot. Inventory system is a bit buggy. Fast starvation and dehydration. Firestation ladder glitch. To quickly sum it up: The game has a lot of potential. The map is great, and it is a great experience when you meet people and you go on an adventure with them. The game has many new items to find. Optimization isn't very good in big cities, and while there is a lack of zombies, glitchy zombies, barely any loot, some bugs, and a bad melee system, those can be fixed with some work. My biggest concern is optimization. I really hope they find some bugs that when fixed, will give fps boosts. With many good features to come, the game has some serious potential. I am looking forward to seeing how it evolves. Ratings (as of the game's current state): For a new unexperienced player: 3.5/10 - I do not recommend that you buy now. Get something else for Christmas. For somebody who enjoyed playing the mod, but didn't play often: 5.5/10 - It depends on how much you want to play the game. It may be worth getting now to save the money. For a fan who has played the mod for a long time and loves DayZ: 7/10 - If you have been waiting for what seems like forever for this game to come out, then I would get it. Just remember that it is an alpha and that it won't be the great zombie survival game just yet. Please give me some beans if you enjoyed the review :)

    The North is almost empty

Currently, there's no reason to leave the coast. Only the reason would be less players, but with no vehicles to repair/players to meet I don't see a reason why you would want to leave it. If you're not a lonewolf of course, but I like finding friends on the coast right now :) There are also lots of houses to loot, so it takes much longer to actually scavenge a city for things.

    Not sure what to do..

Yea once you got full gear there is very little to do. Especially with the lack of vehicles at the moment.

    Vehicle (bicycle)

I rarely ever use vehicles in the mod. My singular goal is to stay alive. Being in possession of a vehicle for longer than a short period of time has only caused me grief in the end.

    Large Content Timeline

Rocket stated when Alpha was released, we would be able to view their little "timeline" on things to tackle and things to code/produce/etc.. I was solely wondering when we will see Vehicles start being coded/created. Notice I'm not asking when they will be implemented, just simply when Dean might start working on them. Please share if you have any info on this and if Dean is reading this, can you provide some insight? God-like game btw man.
