http://dayzdev.tumblr.com/ What is next for the future? Once the current build is stabilized we want to finish up on our “survival” push for the month. This means hunting and cooking finished and process on our “survival combat” which involves the bow and arrow, crossbow, improvised weapons, and thrown items. In the more distant future we’re already planning for vehicles and barricading systems. --- Bikes on the other hand are coming much sooner than 'vehicles' are.

It would awesome to have a cd-player in a car. But on the first days when vehicles arrive, we must do this: Use Spotify :(
-
50 Cal Browning machine gun. I expect nothing less.We should be able to weld it on vehicles or have it mounted on a tripod. The tripod+the machinegun would be alot for one player to carry,so we can force some teamwork there ;)

How about you let them put in vehicles first? lol

1. loot respawn 2. no bullshit weapons like .50 cal and uber snipers 3. Hunting & cooking 4. more FPS optimalisations (towns still have terrible FPS) 5. vehicles -
Yeah, what is really missing is a back story. Are we not infected because we are immune? I think if they played up that aspect and put literally millions of zombies on the map, it would make looting more difficult - especially at military installations where the public fled to be safe. Getting a vehicle would be a death wish, as hordes of infected block roadways and bandits snipe drivers so they can get the car... The mechanics of the game need to balance out each action. The devs need to weigh strengths and weaknesses: If we put hundreds of guns in a military base (like it is supposed to be) there needs to be thousands of infected at that base.If we put in vehicles - those vehicles will need to be maintained, and an easy target to be blocked by a horde of zeds. Everyone says this is just alpha, and I do wonder if the dev team even reads the forums. If not, they are missing out on a ton of great features that could be added to the game.

Regarding soldiers leaving guns and ammo at military bases, if they had /any/ kind of warning they'd have packed up as much as they could in /all/ of their transport vehicles. No military in its right mind would want to leave weapons behind to fall into the hands of untrained civilians - what chaos that would be! For everything else, allow me to direct you to the words of Chris Rock:
-
This is exactly what I want but look at these forums. Multiple threads about wanting more guns(especially military), base building(military outpost style), vehicles(again more military shit). In the end if this is the route the devs decide to take so be it. It was only $30 so it won't be a loss.

Salvaging car batteries for simple welding (crafting/fortifying)
Thirdthorpe posted a topic in Suggestions
Random thought of the hour: I know fortifying is going to be implemented so I was thinking about salvaging multiple car batteries and combining them with cables and welding rods for welding metal plating onto building or repairing vehicles or items. -

A lot more sniper rifles like the Remington 700 Vehicles Persistent containers Working physics in game A hell of a lot more zeds. -
To people who say guns shouldn't spawn in schools and apartment buildings, that just doesn't make sense. Wouldn't the military leave their base during a world devastating zombie (infected living human) apocalypse? Wouldn't they show up in civilian centers and try and help barricade and defend people? Like the stacked up crap in halls of hospitals? Guns should spawn everywhere. But I love the ideas of conditional values being other than "pristine" so when that happens I do hope 90% of guns are worn or worse. Sure an AK is more resilient to dirt and debris than an M4 but shit sitting in the rain for weeks will need some love. Maybe replacement bolts or a series of cleanings and disassemblies. Make them hard to maintain like vehicles will be.

Suggestion list, Improvement and (fixes of current things) Blue = Fixes/addons/ ~ thins i want to be added or fixed ~ Red = Weapons Green =edible or consumables Orange= Spraycans, Function etc. Fixes:Walk and eat or drink (if holding food/drinks in hands)- Its very possible in real life so it should be possible here aswell- Eating, drinking products - should be Consumed when Double click on them occurs---------------------------------------------------------------------------New fruit types:- Pineapple (has to be cut with a machete, knife, axe or crowbar) - tho axe and crowbar should reduce its content. Concidering pineapples in many countrys are cut with machete, that shoudnt affect content.Grapes (leaves you with the vines that kept them together) New types of cans:- Fruit in cans, like conserved apples and pear - Added in game (canned peaches) Ravioli - Extra large cans of food (4 spaces) we all have seen very large cans in supermarkets in real life so i thought it would be cool to have here aswell. New types of drinks:- Orange juice bottle (L) (4 spaces vertically)- Large water bottle (L) (4 spaces vertically)- Ice tea (L) (4 spaces vertically)- Energy drinks (1 or 2 spaces vertically) - 300 round ammo box- Fireaxe, Regular woodcutting axe. (both handle and axe head) - should be able to do only handle or head etc. - Crowbar- Baseballbat- Small protector case - Gasmask- Ballistic helmet- Backpack- Shoes- gloves- (all shooting weapons) - i know u can spray "some" atm- Foodcans - Just for fun- Waterbottles, Canteen etc.- Hacksaw- Knife- Machete- FNP 45 MRD (Red dot scope for FNX) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------!Once cars have been implemented ofcourse!--------------------------------------------------------------------------random functionality. To explain further lets look at a example 1: All containers should be able to hold gasoline. Etc (water bottle) (gascan) (cantine etc)2: You should be able to take gasoline from a dead car with a hose. however the player should be sick for a short period of time due to gasoline in their mouth, However charcoal tablets and antibiotics should remove the sickness within 1-2 minute or so Cars/busses and vehicles in general should have random functionality! - examples below examples of random functionalityVehicle health - (broken tires-random from 0% broken to low air, 1,2,3,4 broken tires) (Carbattery energy 1-100 -RANDOM) (different levels of gasoline in the tank, also random) Player 1: Finds a car, unable to start due to dead car-battery- The car has gasoline so the player can hose gasolin to a container (in this case 3 water-bottles) - because he has no gasoline tank. Player 2: Find a car, unable to start due to empty tank. The car also has a flat tire on the right rear side. the battery is at 60% player 3: Finds a car. Able to start, has little gasoline, all 4 tires are flat but hes able to drive anyhow (slippery and a bit hard to control but the vehicle is working. player 4: Finds a car, (dead carbattery) and a full gastank. There is a carbattery nearby so the player switch the batteries and is able to drive away with all 4 wheels intact. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The high swing hits to the right of the character wich makes it hard to hit anyone (The low swing works perfect)The high swing should take 100% more time to complete but deal 100% more damage, this way bad melee weapons can be more decent. the high swing should be centered exacly like the low/fast swing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Melee weapons suggestions:- Knuckles- baseballbat with whire on it (or you have to cut down a fence and attatch it to a baseballbat)- Baton (police batons)- Scythe (so that more weapons can be found in fields, sheds, or farmers lands etc)- (use knife on baseballbat) = Wooden sword or a small wooden spearHacksaw: to be able to use it to saw on people - Bullet proof vest- Night vision googles- Military backpacks (so hunter backpack isnt the only option)- Combat gloves- Knuckles- Belt pouch (belly)- extended mags for pistols 20-30- Drum mags for assault rifles (60+) and one smaller drum mag for pistol (40-50)- Police riot gear, Full protective hard plastic gear (should protect against fists, baseballbat crowbar etc)This type of gear would be found in a police station, etc ------------------------- Fnx45 (Pistol flashlight attatchment) - Should be able to scroll with mouse to turn (on/off) the flashlightM4a1 (bayonet) - Should be able to use as a melee weapon with a decent range. - this way you can carry your gun without having to shoot zombies to attract attention. There are more uses aswell, but this is very effective if you want to sneak without switching weapons on every zombie encounter -Remove the Reloading of weapon when entering a server(lets say you log out for the night because you are finished, join a server and you start by reloading your guns)(this attracts attention if theres anyone nearby and you can be shot before you even pulled your gun if unlucky)(also if the gun is loaded when you logout, theres no reason to reload it when you join a server, however if you have 0ammo in your mag when entering a server it should reload if possible) - Attatch flashlight, or a pistol flashlight to a pistol or weapon with duct tape - bayonette on a shotgun- sawed off shotgun to the leg then use rope and attatch it to a persons arms, if they move, the shotgun shoots in their leg, causing allot of bleeding and eventually death. - Note (paper) + Blood bag. (you can now write on the blood bag)- note (paper) + objects, etc backpack, helmet, weapon, etc iether to mark them (this is my gear etc) or just for fun when people find the items or the notes.- Note (paper) + Wall etc. Post notes on walls for people to read.- weapon/pistol or regular flashlights on any type of weapon or for example on top of your helmet. or on your Feet.- Knife or bayonette on a baseball bat, now with increased damage

can we get a statement on bases and vehicles ETA.

I'd much rather see better optimization, bug fixes, a fleshed out map, some weapon balancing (fixing), and more zombies before I even want to think about vehicles or bases. You guys are just impatient. -

WARNING PIC HEAVY I haven't seen anything here and it's not on the the DayZ map so it's a new city. As it stands now no zombies spawn there on experimental and some buildings on the outskirts of towns have trees in them but Welcome to the New city! There's no names or road signs yet however Firstly here is where it is approximately Since no zombies were spawning it was interesting to have a little look. I already knew I was so far from where average people play I had time to take in the scenery without fear of being KOS'd. Also the Loot did spawn in the town but its the average residential loot. Food, clothes, occasional PU scops in the garages. Some of the garages on the outskirts have some issues with trees but its not bad Since the town has no name as of yet on the DayZ map I'll call it Everon for this sign post. Also there are no town signs or markers on the road entering the town Here's a view of the main street. Behind me to my left is a grocery store and a factory (the kind with the mill machinery inside. The outside looks like the piano house but the back has a mill attached to it. Sorry my graphics are on low but my comp is pretty terrible. The city also has a commie apt. Block and there is a giant furnace tower like in cherno and the outskirts of electro. I looked around a bit and there doesnt seem to be a hospital (unless I missed it) or a police station yet. As of yet none of the buildings had any guns, it was mostly food, clothes and gear. Although the fire house had alot of shotgun ammo along with the Piano house that is actually a mill inside. This is why I pity most of you folks that insist on running up and down the coasts or only going to the airfields. Theres tons of places they're adding into this game but I imagine once vehicles are introduced more folks will make it out this far. Here's the tower Part of the town is unfinished. It looks like they're going to add a factory area like cherno has or industrial or something. I can't wait for it.

Hello there, I'm InfraRed. Owner of my DayZ Overwatch server, I am currently the owner of this server and a great administration team! Admins; InfraRed Morgan32 Spectre Moderator; Rellimnayr Current features are pretty low considering how we just started our Overwatch server back up, but we'd be deligted for you to come join! If you are good at anything like map adding, or adding scripts, let InfraRed know and you'll have a hell of an offer in front of you. (Not saying our team doesn't know how to do things, I'm referencing something you'll soon discover) I am hoping to see you on the battle field, here are what we've got, 90 vehicles (Might increase to 100-150?) MIGHT add some things to the map, if so, not much... Will be adding a better anti-hack, will not specify, but will also include a debug. Auto-refuel is already in. AI Missions, definitley, Take clothes, Gut humans, IP - 74.222.2.139:3302

The only reason I'm okay with weaponized vehicles is because the gunner is always a sitting duck. They definitely need to be difficult to repair/maintain/rearm. Just so long as the gunner can be shot out, I won't complain.

How many mod vehicles do you want for SA?
leefriendfield replied to Iezza's topic in General Discussion
I would like to see all the vehicles from the mod in here along with more! Aslo, change the word "much" in your title to the word "many" so it reads How many mod vehicles do you want for SA. -
I want all of the vehicles in the mod and more. The turreted vehicles in the other mods (with a few exceptions, like the Mk 19) were wonderful. If the turreted weapons (be it a PKM/M240 or M2) were suitably difficult to find, transport, install, maintain, and re-arm... I'd be all for it.

Hi there. Before I go into my thoughts and feelings on the current build of the game (0.34.115106), I'd like to give a quick introduction to myself, how I've contributed to the DayZ community, why I play DayZ, and why I feel so strongly about this game, and it's current state. My name is TOPMO3, and I've been playing the early Mod of DayZ for Arma 2 since May 2012. Being a 3D artist, and an avid enthusiast of games in general, I lent my skills to create custom textures for the DayZ mod. The Forum topic received over 40K views, and still remains one of the top 5 most viewed topics on the Suggestions Sub-Forum on forums.dayzgame.com. My hope was that the textures would be put into the game by the devs, but they never were. Oh well :) Although it may not matter, I should also mention that I work as an FX Artist in the video game industry for one of the more successful MMO companies, and I have had lots of discussions on DayZ with some of our most senior game designers, who all agree about DayZ's potential. I play DayZ because I think it's one of the most original and exciting games I have played in a long, long time. It's hard for me to be truly excited about games (mostly because everything is a copy of a copy now a days), and DayZ really has a freshness to it that is second to none. At least that's how I felt about the mod, when I started playing it. As with any new game, once the first week or so is over, and you become more and more familiar with the mechanics, some of the "magic" seems to go away. DayZ was no different, but it somehow still kept being interesting through it's persistent game-play, and it's constant level of "threat" that the player would feel. Either from the very scary (back in the early days) Zombies, other players, or just the foreboding environment (remember the really dark nights?) I eventually stopped playing the mod because of the Hackers, and waited patiently for the Standalone to come out, hoping this would be the game I was hoping it could be. After playing the stand-alone with my friends for about a week, I wanted to come here and offer my views on the direction of the new game, and hopefully have a conversation with some of you, to see how everyone else feels about it. I am currently playing on a full Hardcore server. I feel like Hardcore lends itself better to the tension of the game by removing the 3rd person camera. Yes, I am strongly against the 3rd person camera and it's for a good reason. 1st person prevents cute "cheats" like peeking around corners, or looking into rooms with the floating camera. It completely removes any sense of tension by making you feel like you're a ghost floating around your character. I also chose HC server because I was hoping the "threat" (more on this later) would feel more significant in Hardcore mode. I'll start with my biggest complaint at the moment. This "Survival" game, doesn't feel very much like a survival game at all. Let me be clear. The only sense of survival you feel currently, is in the first 15-30 minutes of a fresh play through. Either after you're dead, or if you started a new character, etc. When you have no food, no water, and no way of defending yourself, it truly feels pretty interesting in the "Survival" sense. Zombies can be somewhat of a problem, however, after acquiring any semblance of a weapon (hammer, machete, axe), zombies become a complete joke, and are easily disposed of. Even on the hardcore server, the only thing you have to worry about at the moment is another player, finding something sharp to open cans with, and finding water. I don't feel threatened, and the tension in the current build is almost non-existent, if you disregard PvP, which has always been great in DayZ. At the moment, the average game play feels roughly like this: 30 minutes of initial looting for food/water/weapon. Next 2-3 hours moving "north". Looting all the cool "stuff" you need. Spending a few days running around looking for action/loot. Eventually either dying to another player, or becoming so disinterested in empty towns, and your full backpack of useless stuff, that you move back to the coast, and kill new players. There is nothing for me to feel scared of outside of town. There is nothing stopping me from sitting in the woods all day, and moving into town only for food/water (when Hunting comes, this will eliminate that all together), and eventually, there will be no reason for me to play at all. Camps will help, so will vehicles, but eventually, those will just be hoarded into the woods by groups of players (as they were in the Mod), and there they will sit. Again, there is nothing "threatening" in the current build of the game, and I am confused why in the alpha (when the features of the game are being implemented), these core game play issues haven't been addressed. I have seen that Dean has mentioned the complete lack of zombies in level, and that they are trying to optimize the zombie to loot spawn ratio, making sure the servers can handle the loads, but what happened to the scary zombies in DayZ mod, that would swarm you, break your legs, and leave you for dead? Am I missing something? Did anyone remember crawling around zombies, as not to startle them, because that meant your immediate death? Right now I run past them with a "lol" and just cut the corner, and that's it. Zombies are currently a joke to me (sorry for the emotional response, but it's sad to see the state of the zombie in this game become what it has after a much more interesting version of them in the mod, which was 2 years ago!) Please allow me now to be much more constructive with my thread. What I think would greatly help make this game a truly unique experience and incredibly challenging, fun, and original? Please reconsider the "Threat" mechanic in the game. I don't mean the LoS for zombies, or aggro here. I mean the feeling a player has of impending "threat" to his life/safety/survival. Currently, this only happens during PvP, and outside of cities, there is ZERO threat from anything else. Here are some suggestions I have for this 1) Bring back scary zombies. They have to be fast, they have to be plenty, they have to 2-3 hit break your legs, and 5-6 hit kill you. Make them hear you again (seems like only LoS agro right now), and make them chase you and keep track of you for longer. The player has to feel like there is a constant "threat" of zombies in the world. This is absolutely crucial. The zombies must be the mechanic in this game that is constant, and terrifying. With the right implementation, I honestly feel like it's this mechanic that can actually get players to work more together, instead of KOS each other. If the zombies are such a threat, that players have a hard time surviving solo encounters with several of them. Group survival should be more successful. I am honestly hoping this is the end goal for the devs, I just really rather see more talk in the Dev blogs about this, than cooking. Because cooking is a neat "feature" that I can live without. Having zombies that don't work, or are a lol-factor, is game-breaking for me, in a zombie apocalypse simulator. 2) Threat in the wild. Dean has mentioned wandering zombie packs in the woods, and I think this is %100 must happen. Currently there is no threat at all in the woods, and that takes away from the overall tension the player feels. If you have a gun, food/water/meds, you can live in the woods indefinitely and see zero action. Zero action gives way to only one direction, heading into town and killing other players. There is nothign else to really "survive" against. You live long enough to become the villain. Which is why I think with the addition of Hunting, wild aggressive animals are a MUST. How would you feel about being ambushed in the night by a charging boar (it's eyes glinting from your flashlight), or a pack of wolves, or a bear? Even a harmless skunk or badger might scare the crap out of you. The feeling of "threat" in the woods would be significantly higher. Right now woods = safety. This should NOT be the case. Again, while seeing the devs work on cool new features, I think the sense of tension is much more important to the shelf-life of this game, than say, a physics system that lets you throw your beans at zombies. 3) No Night Vision Goggles, or Thermal Optics. Not now, not ever, please remove these mechanics from the game. As someone who has owned every item in the mod, I have to tell you that these items break the game, and break it badly. Players stop playing at night because they are terrified of someone on this server who has these items (even if anyone actually does or not). Full servers become empty, and the player with the NVG is forced to hop servers. Bring back the flares, bring back the glow sticks, and keep the flashlights. Those things create tension and fun. NVGs create irrational fear, and take the challenge out of the game. Remember when you first started playing, and you'd see those red flare glows in a town? Or active glow sticks on the ground in your area, that created tons of tension. Getting 1-shotted at night by a NVG sniper doesn't create any tension, just poor gameplay. I have lots of other complaints at the moment but I think everyone does, and they are getting sorted out by the Devs. Speaking of which, huge respect to the whole team, and the people working on making this game great. It can be a one-of-a-kind game, I truly feel that way. I am hoping that the core mechanics that really make this game new and interesting are what get the most attention from the community and the devs. I will continue to play this game, and hope for the great changes, but I feel that unless the game addresses the issues I brought up, it will still suffer from the same problems the Mod suffered from. As my friend put it "I just looted the airfield, what do I do now?" syndrome. This game is best when you're threatened, and you have to survive. Please bring back the threat that made me fall in love with this game. Thank you for reading the wall of text. Feel free to discuss/comment/flame. TOPMO3
