Server hoppers: A renewable resource.
sobieski12 replied to -DMG-Jonesy's topic in General Discussion
Private hives saved the game from the horrible public hive system in the classic mod. It is only when the private hives started to introduce a stupid number of vehicles, military buildings, aircraft and weapons of which then killed the true meaning of the mod. * What made me love the game was that character locked servers started to appear, no longer can you server hop for gear, no longer can you sneak into a players base and steal vehicles, no longer can you server hop to find a camp base. * Players finally had to actually travel to find gear or other players!!! What an idea, people playing the game legit?! White-listed communities started to appear and saved many players from constantly getting hacked, since the DayZ team abandoned the mod for the standalone game. * But as it currently stands, history is just repeating it-self. -
If this is in direct response to my post, I never said I wanted pvp removed. No where in my post does it say that. No where in my post history have I ever said such a thing. I actually argue for KoS staying in game all the time. I'm a bandit. I kill people. I don't always KoS, but yea I like the pvp in DayZ. I just don't want the game to be easy to survive in with 100's of vehicles, everyone having military grade weapons and equipment easily found, and no one having to worry about how they will survive. Stop insinuating I meant something else. If this was not a direct response to my previous post, disregard then.

Firstly I'm not a new player I just had no idea where to put this! My question is what's the best Variant of DayZ to play, for example I've heard of ones with loads of new buildings, and new skins Secondly what's the best server to play on for that mod? I've seen some that add new areas, more loot and lots and lots of vehicles, and a good amount of slots. Thanks in advanced, all the best!

The issue is there are so many people saying, "I know it's alpha but..." and then go on to COMPLAIN about something that is explained by the fact that the game is in alpha. People don't know how to have a discussion and be constructive. They only seem to know how to complain about things. I don't see people getting flamed for casually bringing up bugs or asking if anyone else has experienced something. It's people whining and moaning about issues that go without saying. EDIT: And just to go along with an example you used, we don't need threads with people saying "WE NEED VEHICLES!!!" Obviously vehicles are coming, this has already been confirmed. Quit spamming the forums with useless posts about things that are on their way. BUT if you want to talk about what kind of vehicles there should be for example, or how many, or have discussions along those lines then by all means. "The game needs vehicles" is stupid and pointless.

So, I just thought this was worth highlighting since it's such a common theme where someone suggests just about anything. A very large portion of people on this forum seem to think that because the game is in alpha, people shouldn't talk about bugs - or request new things to be implemented because end game easily achievable. There are two main parts to an alpha - bug fixing and feature implementation. This means that assuming people aren't telling the dev's their ass holes and crying about bugs, they can't be had a go at for posting about them. I've seen 'This really needs to be fixed' and people replying with 'OMG, ALPHA, SHUT UP' essentially. That's counter-productive and people SHOULD be talking about bugs and requesting them to be fixed. The devs need to know which people consider the most important and most dire so that they can focus on the ones that affect the most people. The second point of an alpha is a more tricky one. As I've studied game design - and actively design games as a hobby, I can tell you, the normal development timeline of a game is as follows. Early Alpha - Very core functionality. Loot systems, combat, storage, basic travel and even basic bases should be focused on. Focus on game breaking bugs and the worse glitches, such as no-clipping zombies (and people.) The functionality should be a priority during alpha because as more functionality is added, more bugs emerge. Late Alpha - Generally, at the end of an alpha, all PLANNED content is implemented. The game will still be fairly buggy, but everything planned should exist in the game. The functionality in the game should be at a playable level by this point - meaning that stuff should need no major changes. Beta - During Beta, the focus is almost entirely on bug fixing and optimization. While things like multi-core servers come under core functionality, there are many other small aspects like perfecting draw distances to make the game run smoother. During Beta, some features may still be added, but these were not planned from the start. . Final - At this point, the game should be finished. There may still be a few bugs kicking around - and smaller bits of functionality can still be added, so the occasional patch will still be released, but all of the major work is done. 'DLC' style content - In the case of games like DayZ, the community often drives for new functionality to be added. It can be as simple as nerfing or adding new weapons, or as large as entire cities being added to the game. Either way, this stuff can be done after the game is released but again, stuff people expected to be implemented when the game was released should be completely finished long ago. Minecraft is an exception which people often use. Games like that can afford to be developed completely differently due to the style of the game. DayZ however, does not suit that format. Whatsoever. So, what's my point here? When you see someone saying they want tents - or they want vehicles, don't jump up with 'it's an alpha.' Because that's what alpha is for. It's for adding stuff like that, which are ABSOLUTELY core functionality, even if their later-core stuff. Telling people to shut up with requests because it's alpha stunts the growth of a game. Instead, talk about the features they are suggesting specifically. Improve on them - or explain why they wouldn't work. Everything should be talked about at this point - telling people not to complain about certain things is not what an alpha is for. Edited for slightly better wording, removed some repetition. May make it a little more concise later.

Possible solution to KOS, hear me out
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to jan3sobieski's topic in New Player Discussion
No. Survivors wouldn't be able to loot anyone? Ridiculous. Morality is not black and white. What if you find a dead body? This system is so overly complex and gimmicky, it would seriously detract from the game. I don't want messages telling me that other players are within 500m of me, that basically takes away their ability to sneak up on other players undetected. Besides, you seem to be forgetting that this game is still in Alpha and therefore not all the content is final. There's going to be zombies, vehicles, base building, all features which inherently provide different means of cooperation and combat. Everyone will quit the game? Oh thank you, wise Nostradamus! Even though the mod has already been out for over a year and that didn't get abandoned, so anecdotal evidence would prove you wrong. -
I would love to see that a better medical system will affect the whole gameplay not only the firefights. I totally agree there with Zogvarn that we need more differentiation and i think when we start seperating the whole body in smaller parts with more "functions" it could create a awsomely indepth survival system. Like the feet getting sore when you walk long ways without good shoes. That needs to be reflected in different movements not only in taking damage after time, there needs to be different animations when having the right arm disabled and the left, same with legs. I know the medical system we see atm is not even implemented to the point it was in the mod... .....but i think this is way more important then getting vehicles or more guns into the game.

Literally any vehicle is fine for me under one condition. Fuel consumption should be realistic. Huge military trucks and helicopters use a shitload of fuel - and they would really be rendered unusable in a zombie apocalypse. So, if fuel is scarce (like it should be) and vehicles are common (like they should be) I'll be happy. +100. If I can drive a crappy little Ford Fiesta around a muddy field at 50+ in real life, no vehicle should be reduced to such low speeds just because their on grass.

Server hoppers: A renewable resource.
sobieski12 replied to -DMG-Jonesy's topic in General Discussion
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the timer will discourage some players. But there will always be a hardcore group of players continue to exploit this advantage until it's actually removed from the game. If you want a current example, I'd suggest playing ARMA 3 : Breaking Point. They currently have this timer system in place, and while it does help prevent ghosting. People will still continue to server hop to the various military bases for gear since there is a chance that many of the bases have never been touched. But your going to regret the timer system quickly once the game allows vehicles to the game, people will have no problem in server hopping to steal vehicles. * 30 - 60 min means nothing to a group of which can steal a vehicle. Or once storage tents will be added to the game, people will just continue to server hop till they discover a someones encampment on the borders of the map. Locking the character to the server forces people to travel, if my base was discovered by someone who traveled allot of distance on that specific server then I would say that is fair. But if my base was discovered by a player that is just server hopping, then I would utilize the same cheap tactic in finding someones base as-well. -
Think you are going to be disapointed when the game fully releases, Rocket didnt make anything like Epoch with its house building and locked doors and locked vehicles. Epoch took Dayz way off what the game was meant to be, Epoch took all of the Dayz out of it.

This is not what I hoped DayZ would be
Zombie Jesus replied to andrestor's topic in General Discussion
Wait until the game gets more content and private servers start popping up. You could probably find a community that leans more to your playstyle in the future (I am betting it is just less douchy coast campers but not exactly pure PvE) but early Alpha is probably not the best place to hope for a different mindset from the Mod. The game as it stands right now is bare bones and after exploration it becomes hard to move North since you can find everything on the coast. Without storage, bases, or vehicles there is nothing to do after gearing up except act like a douche or pretend to be nice as you murder everyone who is as geared up as you are while pretending they were all bandits. -
First off: I like there is PvP is this game, I like how it's a sandbox with no rules, I don't want PvP discouraged with a 'blunt instrument', I think PvP adds to the danger of the game, I like how my heart rate goes up when looting military areas (I consider them to be fair game for KoS even), i like how I have to scan the horizon with paranoia constantly as I am trekking around, i think to be great this game needs a mix of survivors/bandits/heroes. However; *this is your story *unscripted *mmo *survival *horror When you watch the alpha trailer these are the things popping up on screen. These are the things that the DEVELOPERS are telling us this game is about. I don't see *(generic) deathmatch FPS or even PvP listed there, do you? Really saddens me that so many people play it as such and then even try to justify mindless kosing as realistic. Does killing bambis near the coast really give you such a hard-on? Basically what you are saying to me is that in a zombie survival outbreak EVERYONE is going to be either a Merle, Govenor or Shane type character on DayZ. If you watch the Walking Dead there are MANY other types of characters who are gentle and helpful, and those that use force only when necessary like Rick (much more realistic scenario) If you have watched the livestreams, read the devblogs and interviews with Rocket, it's obvious that he doesn't want to break the sandbox nature of DaZ by encouraging or discouraging a certain playstyle in a too direct way. I agree with this. However, it's pretty obvious by listening to Rocket that one of his main goals in the Standalone was to make your environment be much deadlier, making it harder to survive. This is evident in the new medical and food systems which are much more complex, realistic and I am sure in time will be quite deadly to players who ignore their health. Things like having items break and wear our also adds to this. So, no: to the "Hur dur dis iz a PvP game! butthurts need to go play a single player if they don't want to be KoSed-while-un-armed-on-the-coast-by-another-angst ridden-16-year-old-who-is-taking-out-his-lack-of-ability-with-the-opposite-sex-on-people-in-a-video-game." crowd, I am sorry but this game is as much about survival, zombies and realism/immersion as it is about PvP. There are many, many, many PvP titles out there, while DayZ is/was fairly unique with its survial aspect. Why dumb the game down to being just a simple deathmatch? I am beginning to think that the only way what I consider DayZ purists can be happy is when more realistic servers are brought out or all the CoD-kiddies move on to the next hyped game or even when the inevitable Overwatch mod for DayZ: Standalone comes out. The ease of which military loot is being obtained right now will obviously change so that will help too. The mod was nearly ruined by rampant/mindless kos tbh, and its not just the killing itself. Since DayZ mod came out it was dumbed down many times by custom servers and mods. I load up my DayZ commander for servers and what do I see? +barracks +loadout +24hr Day +3rd person +500 vehicles +self bloodbag +no infection +EZ-MODE GARBAGE!!! These are primarily associated with PvP oriented servers/mods because these ez-moders cried like babies when zeds were buffed (viral zeds) and could knock you down, and infection was increased. Cried like babies they did. They didn't want a survival game to get in the way of their deathmatch so they dumbed it down. Dumbed it down they did. They like playing with loadouts so they don't have to run north for gear, added barracks all along the coast etc. Your life becomes cheaper, you don't care if you die because you can re-gear so easily. So it cheapens the whole DayZ experience. These people who like to PvP everyone in sight don't wan't to play DayZ Standalone. They want to play DayZ: SA Overwatch. Problem is that mod isn't out yet and won't be for a while. TLDR; KoS will get better as the game makes survival harder and the CoD-kiddies move on to the next game/mod

Cracking down on server time abuse [24/7 night and day]
ProGamerGov replied to ProGamerGov's topic in General Discussion
lThat game mode with 24/7 day and thousands of vehicles already exists... It's called wasteland but doesn't have the zombies and instead AI. -
If you never played the mod how would you know what to expect from the standalone? The mod is full of KoSers and lots of hackers. The mod also has vehicles and other gear.
-
Lack of endgame options (repairing vehicles, helicopters) loot tiers (heli crashes, NWAF spawns), only 40 people in a map designed to support 150 as well as easily attained weapons and gear is obviously going to cause everybody boredom.

I realize the game is in alpha, and some of these features are going to be implemented, but mostly it's just a wishlist of features. 1. A 30 second timer on logging out if within X distance from another player, cannot log out while bleeding, broken leg or handcuffed, etc etc. While i'm no KoS guy i'm not against shooting someone who threatens me, like when i chat in comms "friendly" and the guy pulls an axe or gun out, I shoot him, and he combat logs, or tries to ghost, etc etc, of course most of the community would enjoy a feature that prevents ghosting/combat logging, and so would I, that's why it's on my wishlist. 2. A class system, I just find it funny how everyone knows how to mend a broken leg, or fly a helicopter(if they release them in standalone), drive a bus or perform blood transfusions, while I can actually do without, it seems like a fun idea. Classes like doctor, pilot, cook, doomsday prepper, etc 3. lots of guns, a variety would be awesome, even if they aren't really needed, yeah sure X rifle is similar to Y rifle, but hey, it's just nice to see them both there, totally capable of being modified and all(maybe with different attachments). 4. More attachments, man i love that there are like 5 different types of clips for one gun, it just adds that variety you and guy X could both have the same gun, but completely modded for different purposes, it just tickles me, I want more added. 5.Some sort of system to mark friendlies, currently, this can actually be done with the in game clothing options, have everyone friendly wear hoxton mask or something, but maybe another way like in epoch? 6.More zombies, it's a shame when I run through cherno only to be chased by 3 total zombies, I know they're working on this, so I'd like to see the increase soon 7.Zombies have spectral powers removes, can no longer walk through walls, enough said 8.Animations to force players to do things, like kicking them onto the ground from the back after being tied up, or hitting them with the butt of your gun, these kinds of things add more to the role-play, you capture a bandit who was attacking your team and you force him to tell you the location of his base, etc. 9.A really cool reward for being a hero, A lot of people ask for bandits to be punished, nope don't do it, instead reward people for healing others, giving transfusions, etc, with something cool, idk what, but it should be cool. 10. (saw this on another thread) grow-able beards! After a character has survived long enough without shaving, he gets starts getting a survivors beard! 11.While painkillers can calm you down from the shakes, I think there should be luxury items lieing around as well, like cigarettes, that do the same thing, chocolate and spices and stuff. these items can have positive effects on player characters, like increased HP regen or slight movement speed, or steady the shakies, just an idea to have valuable resources maybe worthy of banditing? 12. Some way to store loot, like tents or chests or a base of some kind, I think bandits would be less likely to kill, and more likely to stalk and follow, then eventually rob you if you had a base with all the good loot! also it would help with the random dieing that happens sometimes 13. more persistent bodies, currently bodies disappear after a short period of time, but loot sticks around for ever as far as i'm aware, so maybe if the body vanishes then loot just drops to the floor? 14. some reason to play on night servers, I can actually tell what time of day it is on a server based on 4/40 or 39/40 15. A notebook where important info is listed, (players marked as friendlies or bloodtype, event locations, etc) 16. I know we're getting 'em but still, vehicles man, vehicles I understand that some of these will be actual features, but this is sort of my current dayz wishlist, the game is great, i know it's in alpha, but that's what i want to see as we approach release. I'm also interested in what other people want to see in game?

Okay here's the problem : Gear Hoarding
Leto (DayZ) replied to onebadbasterd's topic in General Discussion
There is absolutely nothing else to play for right now. No vehicles, no base. Lots of features missing. So seeking gear and a M4A1 is the only goal. -
Okay here's the problem : Gear Hoarding
evil9000 replied to onebadbasterd's topic in General Discussion
I have lost so much gear but its always fun to start with a fresh spawn and gear up, get my character healthy and interact with friendly players (with a handful of betrayal :P) The thing is, looting is THE main mechanic of the game, second to that are the survival mechanics. Also humans get attached to gear, its how we work, once we have something, even a can of beans, you feel bad if that is stripped away from you, and especially if the reason is something that feels unfair. Things like glitches, falling off roofs when you didn't do shit, breaking your legs when you step off a 2 inch high wall, or a one shot to the face from a random location. These events feel cheap and unfair and is cause of allot of complains. You are talking about creating a story? well there isn't much stuff in the form of mechanics to create that story besides, collect gear and survive. We don't have any vehicles to repair, we don't have any tents that you can store loot in, so you feel more at rest when you walk around with a character. We don't have bases that we can build, etc. There are allot of mechanics that are coming, but in its current state, I think its a fair play to go for the loot because without that, there isn't much to dayz at the moment. -
Okay here's the problem : Gear Hoarding
jaginun replied to onebadbasterd's topic in General Discussion
In DayZ, all you have is gear. Gear and your vehicles, if talking about the mod. No matter how fair or even an engagement it was, people don't like everything being taken from them, so they come here to rave about the injustice of the world. -
Agressive wildlife [Official wildlife topic]
Jaygoon replied to lowkey's topic in General Discussion
Add em all Rocket, and basebuilding, and vehicles, and a bigger map, and riding horses, and thousands of zombies, and zombie bodies that stay on server for 4 hours, and tons more loot... We dont care about lag and moving around anyway :) :p -
But a bad simulation, look at other simulators where you manage something. Theme Hospital, Theme Park, Football Manager and compare it to this. There is nothing to do but driving slow vehicles to the marker. There is no insight on the things that really happen on an airport. All things he done would have happened simultaneously in real life. A good Simulator would you hire personal, build gates or the whole airport, buy equipment, plan flights, manage the runway. This game above is just bad.
-
this game is just slow and takes forever on purpose, driving tons of useless vehicles to this plane and parking it there is not fun, if he had personal coordinating that h being in charge it could be something better also no zombies, worse game ev0r
-
Did you watch the whole vid? The gameplay is abysmal. You dont fly anything, just drive the vehicles to the plane and back.
-
An anti-materiel rifle (AM) is a rifle that is designed for use against military equipment (materiel), rather than against other combatants ("anti-personnel"). High-value targets also being inside a building that is behind Walls which is Material to kill said target BUT it was originally made for Vehicles and Equipment, HINT the Anti Material Rifle not Anti Personnel Rifle.
-
Only the cherno map? that map sucks, all the vehicles are in the north, idc if you can enter all the buildings now, i stopped playing it because it's empty, Taviana would wipe thew floor with it. and to add insult to injury you are charging for an alpha, do those who bought it get a discount on the finished product? {i doubt it} your sycophant fan boys will lap anything up, sorry but i'm staying with the mod, what a disappointment this is.
