I'm sorry, you think combat logging and ghosting are fixed now? That's hilarious. -
Server hopping has gotten worse. (actuall analysis, not a whine thread)
crazykage replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
Who are you talking to? ME? Server hoping was NOT fixed. Combat logging and ghosting was. I "bitched" about nothing. Merely commented on my own personal observations of recent events. I knew this was going to happen. I hoped it would take a little longer, but here it is. Why is it that whenever someone tries to talk about or discuss something in an intelligent and thoughtful manner around here, someone feels the need to enter into it in a manner that is either trollish, insulting, or both? Ignoring for a moment the manner in which you seem to be rudely attacking my views on the matter, NO. I do not have EMPIRICAL evidence. I didn't record anything, or take notes, or make any videos. NO, it is not an OPINION, but an observation of events and an assumption formed thereof, and NO, it is not just my experience (others have stated in this very thread that they share, to some extent, my experiences. If my "analysis" seems "simplistic", as you so rudely point out, its because I DONT have any empirical data to quote. You agree with me that server hoping is a problem, yet in the same sentence shoot down my views on why it is happening. Why? You failed to mention YOUR views on the matter, but have no problem in telling me that I am wrong, and in a manner which is somewhat snarky. Unless you have something to contribute yourself, don't agree with me then insult me and tell me Im wrong. It is uncalled for and unnecessary. If you don't agree with something i have said, there is a proper way to tell me so. -
To be honest, I don't mind the 300 second ban a bit. Got dropped from servers, changed it myself, got kicked... 300 Seconds to wait? Okay, cool, time to "use the bathroom", turn around and watch the TV or alt-tab out and plan the next route to go. Seriously, I know it is a pain in the ass to get kicked from a server twice and have to wait... but then again: You wander around in this game for hours and hours and nothing happens till you get shot from nowhere and start all over and run around for hours and hours till you get shot from nowhere and start all over... And you still are mad about wating 5 Minutes to join a server, even though this prevents other players from killing you with cheap tricks like ghosting? Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to mock you, but you should think about it this way. :)

I'm sure the Devs would ultimately like as many people as possible playing their game. It will after all be a product to be sold, so it seems they wouldn't want to drive away players / potential players. But.... there's an awful lot of people, when they read the thousandth "some people starting to loose [sic] interest", think "Good". And go on to think "I hope you tire of it because your attention span is so poor, your commitment to supporting an alpha through it's development stages until full release is so lacking, your impatient 'never happy with anything' attitude is so tied to sucking the life out of other people's patient tolerance of you and your complaints". It makes some people want to say "Good, good, good, I hope by the time this game is fully realised you and all of the KoS, ghosting, combat logging, CoD minded, whiny, moany, immature, barely literate dipsticks have been purged from the game. Forever." I wouldn't say anything like that myself of course, perish the thought. But some might.

Loot vs. server hoppers = main problem in DayZ-SA
airtonix (DayZ) replied to timedance's topic in General Discussion
Trust me when I say this: "Combat Logging, Loot Hopping, Ghosting" are not the main problems during the test phase. These are merely symptoms of far greater problems that need fixing, problems that need fixing before anyone even thinks this is a game worth releasing on the retail market. -
If you know where your friend will spawn, roleplay can do the rest. Perhaps giving the player some control over his spawn location would be helpfull. That way u have a general idea where to be looking for him. Maybe risk shouting his name a few times in direct comms once you are in the area? lol I think all third party comms should be severely frowned upon in dayz. Its ,imo, comparable to ghosting.

That is true, but they also have no other option, because public hives are empty. Stop being misleading, you're not wrong, but you're definitely not right. Meanwhile they're trying to work on fixing the ghosting, logging and hopping, which if achieved renders private hives pointless, at least in the regard you're advertising.
-
Self blood bag, auto refuel were merely scripts. By mods I ment epoch, breaking point, origin etc. as far as public hives fixing server hopping and ghosting I hope they do eventually do this. However I doubt they will I would still prefer private hives as they seem to develop their own communities which is nice. Private hives will also be really vital once base building is put in place, one character per server you wouldn't want a player to server hop right into the middle of your base would you ?
-
You named a solution that does not exist. Every private hive server I've ever seen is some variation of extra vehicles and starter kits, because as I said before, that's how they keep the donations coming in. So fuck off with that, I know it seems like an easily fixed problem, but it's not actually gonna happen, because survival private hives don't exist, while the casual ones sponge up all the players, which starves the public servers, and noone wants to play on an empty server. Mods for the dayz mod were pretty good, but they had their own issues, if by mods you mean Epoch or Breaking point, but if you mean auto refuel, extra buildings, self bloodbag to full health, etc then you're entirely wrong. Those mods were there to circumvent aspects of the vanilla mod that got in the way of people getting full milgear in the first half hour, and only added to the deathmatch mentality we're currently trying to overcome at the moment. Do you want private hives to solve hopping, combat logging and ghosting? or do you want them for the 1000 vehicles and start kits? It's ok if you do, but then you should say so, rather than claiming they fix all the problems, yet ignoring all the problems they introduce. What if the public hives solved hopping, logging and ghosting? would you still want private hives?
-
Private hives are essential to dayz they should be priority #1. Private hives fix nearly every single one of the problems associated with dayz. - Combat logging - Server hopping -Ghosting All fixed with one private hive that only saves the location for the players who join it.

It prevents ghosting, and gives you a reason to go outside for a few minutes. Worth it.

Let's be honest we are all killers.. Try your hardest not to lie. Thanks
capt. beefsteak posted a topic in General Discussion
You might scream about how nice you are in game but your not. You might claim to feed the needy but you don't. Here is why: 1. The needy want not one can of food but your whole load out. 2. The only people naive enough to play this way are new. 3. Ghosting is at an all time high. 4. The game revolves around payback. 5. The exploits are at an all time high. If you play for fun, or play for pvp, there is absolutly no incentive to lie about killing people. I've been on the super kind banwagon, and the same fresh spawns knock me out while trying to be helped.. Trust me it's a non issue now. With over 300hrs in game, if you still play unicef your not doing it right. PVP is the game for the vast majority of the population. It's not call of fucking duty either, it's essentailly arma with Zombies. I will say those that join on unpopulated servers may legitimatly want to play, but gear is, food, water, melee, gun's, pistol. Dude part of me want's to start a first person hardcore toon to play legit. Go ahead call me out. I want you to, Any server I log into has empty barracks on balota, nwaf, zelen, outside vibor, and neaf. Hell most places have fucking flashlights and crap pants/shirts dropped on the ground. My squad usually only attacks armed assholes, who shoot from the cover of trees.. Say well if you getting ghosted your in the same location to long... I say instead of logging your spawn in with an axe behind me, come fight like a man... I think this patch will do alot of justice.. I know it won't completly fix ghosting, but it will give me a little longer to kill the bastard. -
To those who dislike the new combat logging timer
africanhungergames posted a topic in General Discussion
I am seeing a lot of moaning and whining on these forums about the timers and how its a 'lazy' feature. It seems that some people have forgotten why this timer was implemented in the first place. To stop server hopping and ghosting and they should judge this feature on whether it has worked or not and guess what MY GOD DOES IT WORK. Since playing the experimental server every battle i have been in has been a fight to the death, I am having so much more fun with this build, died a lot more? Yes. Been hit with the five minute timer? Yes on more then one occasion, does it piss me off? Not one bit. All i have to do is think of the benefits that it is having and the positive affect it will have on the actual gameplay of the game. Is it a lazy feature? I dont know tbh but all i know is it works to stop ghosting like a charm (not so much server hopping) and has made me have more enjoyment fighting on the test server in the last three days then the entire month i have been playing the game. I am starting to wonder whether the people who are complaining about it had mastered ghosting or something and now don't know what to do with themselves or they have completely lost sight of why it is even there in the first place, everyone has had those moments where people have logged just when your about to finish them or the worse one is when you are attacked, you retaliate and the pussy goes and logs off, for me that was killing the game entirely and i just want people to know i for one and chuffed to bits with the new timer. ponymony, on 05 Feb 2014 - 7:16 PM, said: To this i just wanted to say letting a combat logger control his character for the 30 seconds that he is trying to log out completely defeats the point of the timer. The timer is there to make that person vulnerable for 30 seconds and therefore make the risk of combat logging in most cases too high to take. if he can see and defend himself for those 30 seconds then what is to stop him combat logging, Nothing. Yes this is a burden we will all have to share both loggers and legit players alike but it is a burden most are happy to carry.- 148 replies

Spawning in after safe log out or reset with nothing?
pa_foster replied to Sir Schmoopy's topic in General Discussion
Happened to me twice today as well. And no, I wasn't server-hopping, or ghosting, or combat logging. I logged out - exactly as BCKane did - in hiding, in bushes, inland, in the middle of nowhere up by Black Lake. Couple of hours later I log in and -BOOM- I'm back on the beach with zero equipment down by Kamyshovo. *shrugs* It's alpha, whadd'ya expect? So i play for a while, food, axe, backpack, usual clutter as I make my way - inland - towards the NWAF. Comes time to log out so I find a nice safe spot (in back of a small house somewhere close to Dubrovka... not in the house but outside at the back). Came to log in a few moments ago and -BOOM- back on the beach down near Kamy again, no equipment... again, pissed off. Alpha or no, stability issues like this are going to drive players away from the game: what's the point in surviving zombie-attacks, pantless clowns, psycho bandits, and every other KOS-kitty ass-clown on the server if you log off and get reset? Screw slapping a lazy bandaid on combat-logging because a bunch of whiny prats can't get their kicks killing unarmed spawns - fix the basic issues with the game first FFS -
Remove Spawn Timer when joining same server.
Chaingunfighter replied to Sir Schmoopy's topic in General Discussion
I think it's talking about the same server you were previously on. Server hoppers have no benefit of rejoining the same server, although ghosting could still be a problem. However, this would take into account people who crash/desync/disconnect for testing/whatever other legitimate reason. -

I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but in order to ghost you need to join a different server, right? This will STILL initiate the penalty. You will get penalized again when re-joining the initial server too, not to mention the log out timer for both servers. I don't see the problem with removing the penalty for consecutively rejoining the same server. You can't ghost with one server. Loot being in military bases has nothing to do with "hopping" if it's on the same server, well, because it's the same server. I think the 30 second log out timer should be changed to 1-2 minutes and the log in timer should be removed if it's the same server. -No combat logging (improved if logout timer is increased) -No ghosting -No server hopping -No penalty for joining the same server if you've crashed or something -

Six_ten your the one not comprehending this thread For someone to ghost/ log out and sneak around you, he would have to switch to another server. He's asking for the removal of the log in timer when logging in to the SAME server. Ghosting wouldn't return, you have to join a different server to move position, doing so would still net you a log in timer -

that completely negates the point man. the timer is there to keep people from ghosting/combat logging, not just server hopping. -

They should still try and turn it into a better system. If it is at all possible, only use it when connecting to a different server. Ghosting wouldn't happen then or it would still have the same limitations as it does now. Right now you have a 'fix' that works well against what they're supposed to work against - however they also limit or affect the game in other aspects or for people who do not ghost or server hop. Although I know that it won't happen any time soon, but I still think they should. And seeing as everything else is blamable with "alpha" why isn't ghosting, combat logging and server hopping? Hey it's alpha - so get used to it. -

There a ways out of those rooms, one method that has worked for me is to run and vault constantly until you push/lag spike your way out of it. The other is (if there is a window) to constantly try there. These are bugs and will occur in alpha, they are on the bug tracker. The server-hopper and combat ghosting prevention timers are a feature and should remain in the game. Note: Re-logging to get out of a wall glitch does not work, not often unless there is a server roll-back to a previous point or character re-set. You have to push your way out and hope it lag spikes you into the open, the same it lag spiked you in. -
Let me start by saying I have been playing DayZ a long time. I've seen games like this come and go but this one seems to want to stick around, and I don't have a problem with that, hell, I love it. However, I do not like these new logout and server timers. I stopped playing DayZ for a while when I was trekking up north with full gear to explore new military spawns and servers wiped. That's understandable though, I just needed a break. When I came back simply for the first server I had to wait five minutes, server wasn't night and I was in a pinch for hunger and I tried to find a daytime server, waited another 5 minutes. Character dead by login time, not cool man. These new timers are also understandable, and when implemented properly will fix many issues with combat loggers, server hoppers, and so on. However again, they have no been implemented properly in my opinion and seriously need a change. I have seen many post like this one, I know many people agree, but also disagree. I'm sure there's a compromise we can all agree with. Just a suggestion, but for the logout timer(character body staying for 30 seconds after logout) I recommend the current feature be completely removed, and replaced with a logout timer that is active the moment you his escape to abort(30 seconds long, reminisce of what was done in the mod) so you can see what's happening but still have your character forced to be inactive before you can abort from server completely. (Also maybe a 30 second combat timer before logout and then that together will stall ghosting and such) For the server timer, that's a bit more tricky. I propose being allotted 2 server changes every thirty minutes(Very variable, I would like opinions), a warning should be given on the last time you're allowed to change servers where it says if you do not wait for x amount of minutes you will be unable to login to another server, and attempting to do so should carry some sort of penalty of inability to play for (I don't know, ten minutes? Just throwing out random ideas) Players change servers for many reasons. I do so to avoid people, after playing DayZ for a long time I've found that to be the best option. I understand that there are issues you are trying to fix here guys, and I want to be as understanding as possible, but what I've gone through because of these new changes and what others have gone through is far too much. I bought the game because I am a real fan, and I loved it. However, also to play with friends, who are not going to buy until it's a bit more finished, if they're going to have to deal with this same crap, they won't want to buy the game and I will not recommend buying it either.

Server Hopping has become godlike post patch
fitzee replied to ASDF991's topic in General Discussion
Or you could just, I dunno, stick to your favorite server. Though I could see it being a problem for people that only play on 24/7 daylight softcore servers since they tend to be full a lot. Still it would stop hopping for gear(unless someone thinks running all the way to the airbase from the coast repeatedly is a good idea) and totally eliminate the chance of ghosting. Regards. -
Server Hopping has become godlike post patch
fitzee replied to ASDF991's topic in General Discussion
Hi. Can't say I agree about having to start over, that defeats the whole purpose of having the public hive. But what I think would work perfectly is, if switching to a different server you spawn on the coast like a new spawn but with your gear. It would completely negate server hopping for gear, and as a side bonus ghosting wouldn't exist anymore. Regards.
