  1. The TOB Dayz Epoch Taviana server is looking for new members! We have a very friendly and helpful staff who are almost always around, because we love playing DayZ. We're not like a lot of other servers where it's difficult to get help or where the staff just doesn't feel very friendly. We've all been to a few servers where the staff isn't friendly, helpful, or they just seem to not care... We're dedicated to always be friendly and helpful to pros and bambis, alike. Our map is Taviana and we're currently working on customizing it with extra buildings, towns, and AI scripted events. We decided on Taviana because everyone knows Chernarus by now. Taviana is fairly new and exciting. More enterable buildings and more possibilities! In time our Taviana will be different from any other. We use Epoch, so as you would expect, all of the standard Epoch benefits are here as well as: - Self bloodbag - Tow/Lift (Being worked on) - Base Building Without Plot Poles - Plot poles still provide the normal benefits (e.g. Others can't build near them, etc.) - Base decay is disabled and instead your base isn't removed until you haven't logged in for an extended period of time. - Bases will be made indestructible (Making it more difficult to break into, but not impossible. Heli landing, ladders, etc.) - Build Snapping - You can now snap walls, floors, etc. together! - Ensures that your walls are straight, your corners are 90 degrees, and your floors are level! - Huge time saver when building your base. - Protected traders - Many different items/vehicles for sale than in standard Epoch (Nothing over-powered). - Custom Heli Evac - Created in-house and you will only find it on our server! - Have a AI pilot bring your heli to you, when you're in need of a vehicle! - Useful Dogs - Still very early in development and we're not sure exactly where it will end up. - It's still too early to know whether or not it will make it into the server. Unlike most other servers we have staff dedicated to focusing on custom scripts. As the server matures, you'll see many new and never before seen scripts that are sure to make the TOB Dayz Epoch Taviana server your new DayZ home. Come check us out! How to join: Required Mods DayZ Epoch 1.0.3.1 DayZ Taviana (dayztaviana.com) 2.0 Additional Launch Parameters -mod=@Taviana IP and Port 69.39.239.145:3000 ***Note*** If you have any questions, feel free to contact me via Skype: Chrispm84
  2. Hey peeps, since I had a short break lately - not telling anything but I think it's save to say that some variations of tart accidentaly have been incorrectly used - I had some time to think about the subjects of major importance which frequently has been discussed on this lovely forums. The most important subjects that frequently come accross are: 1) There's a saying that some individuals use to kill everyone they randomly met for pure enjoyment, just like they would play Battlefield. 2) There are groups being reported that consequently hunt down freshspawns also for said enjoyment. One may assume that this has to do with the size of the map. The map is bigger than in Battlefield, so having an encounter is very unlikely, except they camp on known spawn points. All kind of playstiles are allowed by the game and in this topic I'm not going to question it, nor intending to ban something. One may say, spawncamper should be punished, another may say that if you frequently get killed in early game, you are doing sth wrong. Anyway, there seems to be varied interprations of the game, mainly: 1) DayZ = survival game, survivers are supposed to survive, to fight the hostile environment and maybe even to work together for higher goals, like building a base or like rapairing helicopter. (PvE) 2) DayZ = more or less a death match, focusing on player versus player, main goal is to dominate another player and to destroy or take everything a survivor achieved, including that shiny helicopter. (PvP) For your interest, I used to be in group 1) mainly doing PvE, only shoot in selfdefence, but I couldn't care less as long as that PvP folks uses to hang around the coast lines. I try not to be there or to encounter them so please feel free to do whatever you want. Problem rises when both groups meet together. Group PvP tends to be way more aggressive, so group PvE is in the disadvantage. Problem: The more endgame you give PvE focused folks, the more PvP folks will dominate them. Why? Buildings, vehicles, stashes, helis etc. need some serious amount of time to be build, repaired, found together and so on. Now the work to destroy all that is nothing compared with the time it took to create. This by time frustrates PvE player. I just can speak of me, but I in fact stopped to use tents, cars, helis in the mod. Instead I started to live out of the backpack. Tents only are good for resting - otherwhise they get robbed and/or destroyed anyway. Of cause, I still appreciate the efford of the Stand Alone team to create game depth and endgame content. But I don't see that working very well, since the map is way too small. You wont be able to hide your car/heli/base/tent or whatever. Everything will get stolen or destroyed with ease. And once there are 100 survivor on a server... well... kiss your goods goodby. Now how do we get both together? Here on the forums I lately spotet a map, which showed me that the current map of Chernarus only is a minor part of a way bigger country. So here comes the suggestion: - make the current Chernarus map to an "entry level", level 1 - if a survivor manages to survive 100 ingame hours (alternatively: and having killed less than 5 unarmed freshspawns who were less than half an hour old), the survivor is allowed to proceede to level two, which basically is the whole map above - the survivor in level 2 starts at the area of level one, but his character is wiped out from level 1 - the survivor can go back to level 1 if he dies, but if he does so, his character on level 2 is wiped out and he will need to survive 100 ingame hours again in order to advance to level 2 once more ---- Why? ---- For PvP player such a huge map is a pain. There is a reason why Battlefield maps are just very small compared to Chernarus. There is a reason why PvP player camp Cherno, Airfields, Electro, Balota etc. For PvE player on the other hand the current map is way too small, there's too less room to successfuly hide something. Of cause there will be PvP in the larger map as well. In fact bandits there even have enough room for building large communities, as well as survivors. Bigger cities could be battlefields as well... Now then, what's the difference? - The overall mentality. Those who already survived 100 ingame hours proofed that they actually can survive and even tried it. So what do you think? Should the playerbase being separated like this or would it be enough to give them both the whole map - provided such a huge map would be even be possible. Such a level system also could be combined with a difficulty setting, rising the difficulty on the larger map. Thanks for giving a thought.

I think the map is too small for cars. Am I the only one

Helicopters should NOT be brought back in DayZ SA. It was too easy to find every camp on the map, find every vehicles... I remember me and my clan, with one helicopter, we brought back almost 20 vehicles in our camp, we stole them all of camps, and we found 2 other helicopters.. we stole almost everybody on the map in 1 night, it's too easy. Also you see someone on the road, and it takes seconds to explode his car. Well maybe some of you won't agree, but I think we should only stick to cars. If they are going to implement car customisation, base creation, farming and blablabla, with helicopters, all you could construct will be destoyed just because of helicopters. I remember we had our server, I told to the admin (my clan mate) to take out the heli. Camps were almost untouched, our camp stayed alive for almost 1 month. And then, after he readded heli, our clan rivals, just found every camp on the map and destroyed thems. Sorry for english.
  4. Having both played on servers that had tons of vehicles (100+) to some that had barely any, I can safely say that ones with more vehicles were alot more fun. They didn't really break the balance of the game as they well extremely risky and produced tons of noise, causing the player to draw tons of attention from both players and zombies. They also didn't break immersion due to the fact that in a real world apocalypse-type scenario, there would be abandoned vehicles in both working/broken condition -everywhere-. Ever drive to NWAF? You might want to hop out and go on foot before you actually get there or you will run into "problems". Large numbers of vehicles do not upset balance in any way and add alot more enjoyment to a server, IMO. (Note the IMO here). In regards to the topic itself, chernarus is huge and vehicles help the monotony of running around for hours on end. Only Lingor felt "smaller" with tons of vehicles, and I only say smaller because at no point did it feel small entirely, unless you had a helicopter, I suppose.
  5. vehicles were fine in the mod. people will camp roads. so you have to be a careful driver.
  6. This is how I see vehicles. Regular bicycles = semi common Motorbikes = Semi rare Any sort of motor vehicle needs to be semi rare if not rare. Helicopters need to be almost non existent.
  7. 10x10km2 is Perfect for vehicles / helicopters. I can't wait till they are in!
  8. Ehh, even that area would seem a lot larger with vehicles, which have to navigate stuff - and the inability to sprint better than any cross country runner alive.
  9. Someone sounds butthurt that they never got vehicles.

I think the map is too small for cars. Am I the only one

Vehicles can't be rare, just like weapons. If there are only 10 vehicles on the map, the 10 people who have them, or the two people who find them all and horde them, will be that much infinitely stronger than everyone else. However, vehicles don't really belong on this map, to be honest. After playing SA with absolutely no vehicles in game yet, it's been great. I don't think we need them, or they're necessary.
  11. The map is huge - it only seems small as you can run at sprinting speeds everywhere, with no need for breaks. You also handle slopes, which are everywhere, better than an average car likely would. Vehicles also will not be able to go through trees particularly easy. Basically, once vehicles and some kind of stamina/weight system is implemented, the map will actually seem a lot larger.
  12. SA map is actually bigger. Vehicles will be fine.. and they aren't as much of a death sentence as some people are saying. Just avoid high traffic areas, or be prepared to defend yourself if you are in high pop areas. I rode around in a White Offroad or Military Offroad for the majority of my time in the mod.. Got shot at a few times, and usually just pulled off the road and killed the guy who shot at me and proceeded along my way. Only once was my tire ever shot out, and that was at NWAF and I was driving ON the airstrip, in the middle of a massive firefight with several parties involved. Only other time I've lost my vehicle due to driving around was when I picked up a fresh spawn and bloodbagged him.. he tried to take off in my offroad and I lit it up with an M16A4 ACOG, and blew it up with him in it.
  13. Look at the world we live in, vehicles are plentiful and fuel is SCARCE. I think we want the same thing, but in reality, fuel would eventually become hard to find. I think that should be the model. Not sure which direction it will go at this point. I'm personally really excited about base building and a ton of zombies on the map with a few instanced scenarios such as hordes and crash sites or whatever. EDIT: Also, I hope like hell that the train eventually becomes operational. I've seen it up there. . . I've seen it. Plus all the new track.
  14. I just want vehicles to be rare. Perhaps only have a handful of large vehicles mixed in with a more genereous amount of small transport vehicles such as bikes, electric scooters, etc.

    [SA]WeaponZ Survey

My idea would be not to make Military weapons rare but put in some sort of maintenance into the game then make the military weapons harder to maintain but the civilian/crafted weapons easy to maintain that way u could have the fun of having a nice shiny Sniper/Machine Gun but it wont last long or even mess up on the first round u fire that way people may think yeah that weapon is better but the chances of it going wrong are high so ill take my trusty shotgun over the nice shiny M4. This would keep both the sides of the argument happy IMO. Also once the base building mechanic is in the game id like to see fitted weapons on tower kinda like the flamethrower and Balista type weapons u see in Mad Max 2 that would be cool also could look into being able to retro fit weapons like that to vehicles who wouldn't want a pickup truck with a massive crossbow on the back.

Yea... they can fix it right after they introduce functional vehicles...... sounds great!
  17. DayZ is a multiplayer open world survival horror video game in development by Bohemia Interactive and the stand-alone version of the award-winning mod of the same name. (wiki) Perhaps the reason rocket has decided to make it standalone is so he can incorporate more survival elements than were possible from just making it a mod of a military sim? Such as being able to add respawnable zombies, additional elements such as cooking, hunting, dietary needs, crafting...all the stuff mentioned in the future updates? Just because the mod was limited and so devolved into people treating it as a military sim (making servers where people spawned with weapons/vehicles etc) doesn't necessarily mean that the intentions of the devs is to make it a military sim itself. Indeed I don't see ANY references from the devs that this will be designed as a military sim, it's pitched as a survival horror MMO. Useless IF you're treating it as a military sim...

    Standalone Praise!

Devs, Just wanted to take a moment and Thank You for the work you have done on DayZ Standalone so far. It is coming along and will be a long process. It is kinda nice right now without all the helis and vehicles roaming about right now. The game so far has also made me more mindful of my surroundings again instead of "Kill everyone of sight", I am forced to decide if I want contact with another survivor or watch him and let him go by. My old habit of not sneaking around Zeds has changed now also. Anyway, seems like I am rambling on a bit. Good Job and Good Luck. Tony Montana

[suggestion] hand cart on train tracks

I don't see what mines has to do with it. Theese are still around as backup vehicles on train tracks everywhere although it's very rare to see them used nowdays. I've seen both the classic 'pump version' and bicycle variants used around where i live (Sweden) on the countryside and on train tracks that are no longer in use. I can definately see them getting back on the tracks in a Day Z scenario. :)
  20. It's not "your" server in the sense of a typical game. You're effectively paying money to have a server that you know won't go down suddenly. This was a lot more relevant back in the mod, since if you built a base and stored vehicles, those were local to the server. I know I had some heartbreak when a server went down permanently where we had worked hard to establish a base filled with loot and three vehicles. That's what made us buy our own server (until hackers ruined everything and led to us quitting the mod. They would come on daily and teleport every vehicle to NWAF, including the boats). Basically, what you're forgetting is that you still own your server. It's yours, but in order for it to be allowed to connect to the hive, you have to abide by certain rules that are designed to keep the game fair. This is because you get people who would lock their server, farm up all the best loot in the game with no risk, then take all of that loot onto another server they didn't own just to kill everyone with their superior gear. By all means you are free to kick and ban whoever you want from your server, but because you are effectively cheating at that point by banning players who are playing the game in a way that it was intended to be played, you server is no longer a legitimate server. That's what you fail to understand. Kicking a player for not following your arbitrary rules is cheating. You're no better than the hackers at that point, and it is perfectly reasonable for a server run by a cheater to have his server banned from the hive, just like you would expect any other cheater to be banned.
  21. I know we're not close to getting vehicles yet, but I thought it would be cool to have a hand cart for utilizing the train tracks someday. 1 person to pump it up and down minimum, but allow faster movement with 2 pumping.Allow for seating positions on the front/back for riding shotgun. Persons pumping it would be unable to use weapons. Mount a crate on it to allow for carrying gear,Allow fixed placement of machine gun, but lose seating. Could have a small empty cart attachment as well to give a larger transport capacity. Would need the ability to operate the track switchers where the tracks split. Opens up the possibility of track blocking for a train robbery.
  22. Love the game so far. I think it would be great if the dev team could put up a list of features they are currently working on adding/ fixing for the next update. And also a list of all the features that they are planning on adding to the game. Like adding vehicles and building bases. Also when or in what order they are planning on implementing these game features (if known). I’ve read a lot of posts asking for things and when/if new features will be implemented. If we had a list of what’s planned and what’s currently being worked on I think it would answer a lot of questions for people. Also it might help us help the dev team make a better game. As a software developer myself, I know that things change as you are writing a program and it’s frustrating to go back and rewrite code, if we the players could give input before dev of certain game features it might help out. Just a thought anyway. If such a list already exists great and could you give me a link?
  23. Support this. I think it'd be a good idea to 'draw' a radius around all of the military areas and make these no-spawn zones... Then literally anywhere on the main landmass can be a spawn (preferably once vehicles are added.)
  24. The big issue with third person view, is not that you CAN see around obstacles, it's the simple fact that, even if BOTH players are using third person, if someone is hiding behind a corner using third person to look around it, and another third personing player is running around, he will have NO IDEA that the other player is there, even though he is also in third person. It does not apply to third person in vehicles, why? because vehicles are huge, and make a lot of noise, you'd hear the vehicle long before the person in the vehicle would see you(with lots of corners). Now I am for first person only in vehicles as well, for the same reason I am for it outside of vehicles, however, it's clear that third person in vehicles is not as big of an issue as it is on foot. First person in my opinion gives you a better experience, and at the same time, if they can see you, you can see them. You can see your character by looking down, and by going to your inventory screen, and yes you can see the hand gestures in first person as well, you can obviously also only see the compass in first person, and gives you an actual reason for leaning rather then just a goofy dance. TL;DR, third person is a crutch for peeking around corners in perfect safety, really no other reason for it.

Possible solution to KOS, hear me out

Problem is there is no common enemy zombies are no threat and they don't respawn so server usually don't have any I'm not positive but i do believe they are going to implement crafting/base building in the game. It is alpha after all so this is pretty much the bare bones and basic mechanics of the game. I'm not sure if they will add crafting classes. you should check out dayz epoch. If you want to build any sort of base you will need multiple people as everything is weight based(so one person cannot carry everything/will have to make multiple trips to town) and one person alone would take hours to make a wooden box without a roof much less fortify it. Vehicles are already planned remember this is alpha! Vehicles where also in the mod. night time is pretty sucky.... can't see anything if it is cloudy at night Zombies and loot are planned to be respawned(alpha). I can't say where but i'm pretty sure i saw rocket saying he wants to add zombie hordes that wonder cities/forests i think it was in one of his videos. People tend to KoS because there really isn't much to do in the alpha. Think about it: ya I'm well fed got good gear got decent ammo a weapon i can A.help people(this seems like it will be the obvious choice but bare with me). or B. kill everything that gets near me.... I feel most people start with A and eventually take a few axes to the face which will turn them into a B. All that gear you took so long to get gone with one axe swing to the face and the killer gets fully equipped in less than 5 seconds You usually will not find friendlies at all. I'm pretty friendly and willing to help out but you will never see me approach someone as the voice distance in the SA is only about 8 meters(really annoying) compared to the mod which was like 50m~. Leading me to just hide and observe people until they move on.
