no you dont ..ffs... you pay a penalty for "ghosting" players, the so called "hoppers" are at least EVERYONE of the other players! trust me. i have i think 6 servers up. not one of them has more than perhaps 1/300regulars. EVERYONE hops between servers. ANYONE stating other ways is simply lying. they ALL change servers ..a lot... ..for loot...

To those who dislike the new combat logging timer
cels replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
It can be improved.. It may slowdown ghosting and server hopping.. But it doesnt stop it.. It does work somewhat for now though. Think how it will be when base building and barricades are in play.. You will want something to stop people from logging into another server, moving 10 feet, logging back into your server and being inside your base. Only way I can think of to really fix this is on top of the current system. Have it so you randomly spawn elsewhere on the whole map for switching to a different server. Switch too much, too soon. You lose all your gear and only spawn at fresh spawn spots. -
To those who dislike the new combat logging timer
mssing replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
the timers are there to try preventing "ghosting" players ..thinking anything different is simply stupid and mostly argued by butthurt players being pissed because some of the other "hoppers" got there first =) -
Dude...they explained why this can be used as a ghosting combat logging exploit a million times already...

Pending Changelog: Experimental branch: 0.34.XXXXX
hard2say replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Systems: Players position was not saving on disconnect. IMO, due to the intentional ghosting, this is a real problem and game breaking IMO. If you feel the same, take a look at my post about it. Possible Solution/Fix for Intentional Ghosting. Other than that, Rocket, you and your team are doing a fantastic job. Many developers could certainly learn from you all. Thanks for the updates!! -
Although you make a good point about timer increases, I disagree with having a free relog first time round. I think the accumulative effect of both the combat log timer of 30 seconds and the server hop prevention timer go along way to aslo stifle ghosting. Also you have to think about the fact a players character now stays in the game for 30 seconds after you log. If there is no waiting penalty for hopping the player would essentially be leaving a copy of himself(although for a short amount of time) on a different server. This may allow for duping. Can you also imagine the number of people complaining because they got into a new server and then were killed on the old one because someone came across their char sat in a bush and died instantly on the new server? we would have 100s of threads popping up.

What are you a retard? why do you think those timers were introduced? to address exploits like combat logging, ghosting, and server hopping / loot farming. I.e. cheating. You can't have a meaningful discussion about the timers without referring to their purpose.
-
Screw my original (deleted) idea! I like ^ in addition to the "server-hopper fix" from the last patch.
-
Sorry but it seems some people cannot apprehend server hopping, ghosting and combat logging is cheating, so there you go, i explained, and by the way did you even read the OP's post? He is whining about the whole things not specific to timers...whos stupid now bud?!

To those who dislike the new combat logging timer
mssing replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
the timer has bloody nothing to do with what the buthurt players go on about "hoppers" or "loggers"! it is simply a measure to prevent "ghosting". nothing more. nothing less. you were/are all hoppers, the only difference was/is how long time you spend on a server before changing to another ..or so my serverlogs show... -
To those who dislike the new combat logging timer
drayson replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
This has been tried before. Doesn't work. Alt + F4 or end process via task manager bypasses this. The current system is the best one I have seen so far to combat ghosting/server hopping/combat logging. -
To those who dislike the new combat logging timer
mssing replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
..it was implemented entirely to stop "ghosting" ..all players whining on forums (like this one) about "hoppers" are one of the same them self! i know. i have servers running when i want to play. i can see that perhaps 1/300 being a regular. the only once whining about "loggers" are the same kind, being buthurt because someone got there before them ^^ -
it is not a "antihopp" measure ..it is a measure to prevent "combat logging" and ..or perhaps mostly so, "ghosting" ..anyone playing this game farm loot and change server to do so. the difference between the buthurt forum whiners and the rest, is the time they spend on a server before changing to another ^^ think what you want but this is the simple truth!
-
you are mistaking. it is only there to stop the so called "combat logging" or "ghosting". all players farm loot, it is in the nature of the game ..the difference is in how long they loot a server before they change to another...

Don't get me wrong, something needs to be done about Combat Logging, Ghosting, and Server Hopping. I just think having to wait 5 minutes for something that is out of my hands is a bit excessive. and for the record, I have never combat logged, ghosted or server hopped. I like to play this game properly, it adds to the enjoyment for me.
-
None of your recommended "fixes" would effect server hopping or ghosting. In fact your "fixes" would encourage further server hopping for loot. The majority of the players think the timer should be even longer anyway so just go do something else for five minutes while you wait.
-
Not entirely true. A lot of players became accustomed to ghosting which is the process of going to another server to gain a vantage point on a player from the 1st server, then logging back into the 1st server for the kill. Don't blame BI, blame the players for your woes.

I fail to see your issue. 1) Joining a server fast to help friends ghosting, combat loggings dark twin brother. 2) You mention 'but I play day servers, not night ones', or joining the 'wrong' server. Use your favorites list, thats what it is there for. 3) The timer is something like 300 seconds. Go take a break. You have failed with every post you have made to give us a compelling argument, or even any argument at all. Most of your reasoning seems to stem from some kind of server hoping mentality.
-
It's not mainly about stopping server hoppers... it's about making them wait for what they do to this game, even it's a short period of time. And it's against ghosting, which is also very annoying. And you dare to say server hopping is a way of playing this game and devs shouldn't force you to stop hopping? So cheating is also legit, because it's just a way of playing dayz? Yeah would be nice if they disable Anitcheatsoftware, it's cruel to force a cheater to stop teleporting or spawning stuff, just because it's his way of playing this game... I hope this timer will get much more longer or they find a way to really piss server hoppers off.
-
You guys do realize it wasn't the best move to counter server hoppers when there is no form of respawn for loot aside from a restart. Having respawnable loot would of solved about half of the server hopping issues, the other being the ghosting. Until respawning loot happens people will server hop.
-
Thats. The. ENTIRE. Point. If your character isn't vulnerable when you log out then it won't stop combat logging / ghosting anywhere near as effectively. And its not even an issue, i've played hundreds of hours in origins with a logout timer and I've never died when logging out. If you logout in the middle of cherno then you deserve what you get for being a dumbass. Log out nowhere near the coast and not within 300m of a building however and its EXTREMELY unlikely that you will die. This causes zero problems for people who play the game properly. Well, this system has been in dayz mod for well over a year, so I wouldn't count to hard on it being substantially changed. That said, if you're in Electro with "your guys" why not just go into a lootless building and have them cover your ass for 30s....

POLL Should The Timeout Timer be Increased, Untouched, Reduced or Removed?
excitable1 replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
leave the timer.. play a server for awhile no issue leaving an joining another....leave server to join another....you wait. solves the ghosting problem to a point. -
Congrats to people who hated server hoppers, but was it worth it?
blacklabel79 replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
hehe. This sure is entertaining. Tho i was anoyed a bit because i had to wait after "session timeout" ( screw you flatmate and your Streaming habbits ) but couldent help but thinking how anoying this must be for People that grew a habit on hopping Servers and ghosting in combat. Ach all mein lulz ! -
Broken fall damage saved me from "Ghosting" 3 times tonight. Yay! /sarcasm off

Congrats to people who hated server hoppers, but was it worth it?
Torinx replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
lol This is (probably) a glitch/bug and (most likely) will be fixed fairly rapidly. Sorry, but you won't get me to regret the actions taken to stop you server hopping, ghosting, etc.
